Whoopee
On a cool fall morning in greater Gastonia teams gathered for the second annual Gashouse Amoeba Ruck-Off! This time the PAX added weight by filling each sack full of canned goods to donate to Dallas Christian Ministry.
This was the plan…
Teams gathered at First ARP Church on S. Chester St. to finish loading up their canned goods and begin the mumble chatter. Teams were finalized and instructions with pictures were handed out. Teams grabbed the information packets, stopped listening to YHC, and began their ruck to six checkpoints before making their way to the end point at Pita Wheel. At each check point the teams were instructed to take a team selfie, send it to YHC and complete 100 reps of the exercise called out in the instructions. Once they finished all 6 stops it was time to race back to the finish at The Pita Wheel. YHC estimated this to be near 8 miles depending on any shortcuts that could be found.
This is how it went…
Under the watchful eyes of the unofficial officials Balljoint and Mayor, the teams got their instruction sheets and began talking their way through their route. At the same time the teams were talking YHC was pointing out a few details of the ruck. Next time no packets until its time to launch. Anyway, off they went to the locations below to get their pictures and reps in.
START = First ARP Church – 317 S. Chester St.
York Chester Middle School – 601 S. Clay St. 100 Decline Merkins
Tony’s Ice Cream – 604 E. Franklin Blvd. 100 Monkey Humpers
West Gastonia Boys & Girls Club – 310 Boyd St. 100 Australian Mountain Climbers
Hollywood Cemetery – 600 N. Broad St. 100 Burpees
Lineberger Park Vietnam Memorial – 632 E. Garrison Blvd. 100 LBCs
R.O.’s Bar-B-Q – 1318 Gaston Ave. 100 Jump Squats
FINISH = Pita Wheel – 110 S. York St.
Pictures started coming in quick as the teams worked their way through each location. It looked neck and neck as one teams pictures trumped the others. Nearing the finish line at Pita Wheel it was definitely a tight race. One team coming from Lineberger Park and the other coming from York Chester Middle School. It’s anybody’s race! Who would it be?
Blart, Broke, Def Leppard, Sargento and Slaw?
OR
Breaker Breaker, MInivan, Roscoe and Tesla?
One team came racing into the Pita Wheel ready for a cold beverage at 1:55:18 logging 7.6 miles and earning their victory!
The second team may have been talking when YHC stated the finish line was at Pita Wheel. And they may have overlooked the written instruction too. With that said they returned to First ARP Church with an unofficial time of 1:45 logging 6.78 miles.
Both teams put in the work, carried lots of food and earned their victories!
In all, 194.2 lbs. of food were collected plus $60.00 to buy more for Dallas Christian Ministry.
Race supporters Gumby, Orangeman w/ 2.0 Erica and rogue pre marathon runners Flintstone and Virus came to Pita Wheel to witness the anticipated photo finish.
It was a great day.
Till next time!

This was my first Q down town my first Q anywhere other than Folsom for that matter 🤔dang I need to get out more. But anyway my wife was off this Friday which meant I could post somewhere then I noticed on slack captain stubbing had an open Q so I pounced on it. I work for the city and have always kept an eye out for potential exercises in different spots downtown. My planning finally payed off here’s what went down.
warm up: gravel pickers, ssh, air presses, squats, merkins, mountain climbers all x10 IC mosey to the bridge 5 pull-ups 10 step ups 15 dips x4 mosey to the FUSE stop at each intersection for 10 CDD’s 10big boys 10squats Gearwrench was bat flipping and sped ahead but got some ridicule for skipping a couple roads which started a debate about what defined an intersection which Balljoint settled later on slack😆I love this kinda crap it keeps things entertaining. But for the record gear wrench circled back and completed his reps💪🏻. At the fuse we did Route 66 bear crawls and merkins much to SA’s delight he loves doechy exercises like this. Then we moseyed back to the pavilion stopping at each intersection for 5 Diamond merkins. At the pavilion we did 10 v ups 10 miketysons 10x factors 10 burpees and some incredible hulks everyone was glad we fit some burpees in I think they were worried we wouldn’t do any 😁. Fun was had by all good work men it was a privilege and pleasure to lead like always this was a reminder to me I need to branch out and Q elsewhere when possible I’ll be keeping an eye out for other openings. Over and out 💪🏻👊🏻
I was scheduled to Q at Folsom on this day anyway I had a weinke in mind but then surprise there is a 5th week of IPC this year so my plan will have to wait. We met up at the soccer field and did week 5 and it went down like this.
10 BDC burpees murder bunny 10 yards 10 BDE burpees murder bunnies backwards 10 yards 20 thrusters murder bunny 20 yards 20 thrusters murder bunny 20 yards backwards 30 Bonnie blairs murder bunny 30 yards 30 Bonnie blairs murder bunny 30 yards backwards 40 jungle boy squats murder bunny 20 yards 40 jungle boy squats murder bunny backwards 20 yards 50 merkins murder bunny 10 yards 50 merkins murder bunny backwards 10 yards stop. During the course of the workout there was a timer every 5 minutes we did 5 kraken burpees it was tough but all the men pushed hard. I’m especially proud of jiffy he really struggled but refused to give up and finished strong 💪🏻. Mayor Stogie and Ozark started early to make sure they got all the work in. I’ve been pleasantly surprised this year at the way the Folsom regulars attacked the IPC and we’re all stronger because of it thanks to all who helped set up. I look forward to next years IPC
So we here in the Gastonia region have the understanding that backblasts should be completed within 48 hours. This hurts, but YHC has been slippin’ with this one. 161 hours ain’t good. My apologies.
The weather was perfect. The weinke was ready. This is what happened…
Warmup
Pledge of Allegiance
Mosey west toward the bail bond shop. Everybody grab the position for wall sits, then with marching, then with overhead claps.
Mosey around the corner for…not what Short Sale expected. He thought we were going to do Route 66. Hahaha! Head fake to some 11’s. Do merkins at one end, run to the light and do dying cockroaches. This took quite a while because it was a fur piece.
Mosey down South Street to the corner and do monkey humpers IC pointed at McQuitter’s wall as a salute.
Keep going down the block, hang a left and head into the parking deck for the Thang. At the top of the deck we saw a sight probably no one ever thought we’d see. A high rise construction crane in downtown G’town! Another salute to this is the Dora 123.
Partner up, #1 runs around the top part of the deck while partner #2 does the exercise. 100 Daniel Sons (it’s a crane, get it?), 200 CDDs, 300 LBCs. It was awesome!
Mosey down the deck and around the block to the start. Under the pavilion we did a Bear Crawl ring of fire with the PAX doing Shoulder Taps while we took turns bear crawling acound the circle. Time!
Announcements: Amoeba Ruck 10/8, Dredd 10/, Convergence 10/15, Christmas Party 12/3
Prayer Requests: Purple Haze’s mom, Golddigger’s grandmother

After realizing it’s been way too long I decided to hit up Slaw for a Q . I asked if he would cover if I got hung up at work but no need I made it.
Warm up
Right over left , don Q’s lbc’s
Hade a few things in mind but decided on a stroll around the lake loop.
Our tour had a few stops along the way . We stopped about ever 25 mile or so and did ring of fire merkins, squats, lbc’s , imperial walker- toy soldiers Leppard ‘s not the only one to mess that up . As we made our way to the Dam we stopped for a few mike Tyson’s and hip slappers . We really don’t do enough of those anymore.
As we made our way back to the flag area we grabbed a few blocks for a round of colt 45’s and 2 rounds of Merkin plank walks across the blocks. This was not as easy as I thought it would be but still a good upper body choice
Prayer request
Huck, Sarlacc, those with family dealing with illness, and a few more I can’t recall
As my job takes me to many different places I was working at a treatment facility today and just talking to the lady in charge made me think about how lucky I am to not have someone close to me that is currently struggling with addiction. Men this will affect us in some way sooner or later and I hope I am ready to fight if I need to.
