Fitness, Fellowship, Faith

Month: March 2019 (Page 9 of 10)

Downtown 3/1/19

The weather was great this Friday so we took advantage of the opportunity to get better.
Warm up
Ssh,cherry pickers,merkins,hillbilly, crab reach.
Mosey to the wall on 321 to do some walls sits and raise the roof.
Then went across the street for some fun the coupons laying around.biceps, triceps, shoulders, then we lined up Hipaa had the heaviest so we used his to pass back and forth while doing another round of walls sits. Mumble chatter was going great by now from it’s wet to what will these cars think of us. YHC reminded them it does not matter what does is that we are doing work. Speaking of work let’s mosey.took a stop at the corner of franklin and 321 to do some rocky balboas and calf raises 50 each x3. Then down the street to do some dips and Derkins. Kinda like dippn dots without the sweet little frozen balls. Again weather was nice did not here any complaints about frozen balls. We then teamed up for sprints and squats one runs other squats up the street then fellowship down then lunge back up. My legs felt wonderful so much that Clavin had to show me what a real lunge looked like vs my version of a bad sobriety test. Then back up to the rotary for Mary and talk about the power of prayer!

Remember: prayer can be powerful and effective. We are blessed to pray as a group of men together many times a week, the C.O.T. In my mind is like a antenna going directly to God.

Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like Men, be strong.

We Already Have A Peffercorn

Just when we start getting used to the warmer morning weather, nature hits us with a surprise mid 20 degrees. That’s cool cause I know real HIM will post no matter what. Time to clock in.

There were 6 runners and 2 for a ruck. Miles were logged and our FNG seems like he’s gonna fit in with the “Runners.”

All return to start at 6:15.

Pledge, wait, no shovel flag, but no worries, Sparky just happened to have a Flag patch on his boggin. He hangs it on a vehicle and we get it done.

Naming the FNG wasn’t too hard. After learning he grew up playing baseball, played college ball at Limestone and he’s on the Parks And Rec art in Dallas. Smalls was the first thought, but we already have a Smalls. Then Wendy Peffercorn was announced. That had to be it. So, YHC being the Q confirms it. Well, little did I know, but later on was told, that F3 Gastonia already has a Peffercorn. A rename will take place his next post. #QFail

YHC took us out in prayer

Guess What Day It Is……

Hump Day!!!!!

1 Showed for the EC but 13 showed for the main event. It was 5 degree’s warmer than expected so I think that is some good news.

The Thang:

Pledge

Roxanne was played. Merkin for every Roxanne, Plank Jack for every Red Light. The entire song is hard to complete and is a good way to measure your progress.

Mosey to Gaston’s Hill

SSH while we wait on the Pax.

Every mailbox on the right 10 Merkins. I believe that is 16 mailboxes.  160 Merkins. (After Roxanne, that was pretty tuff)

LBC’s while we wait on the Pax.

Every mailbox on the left going down the hill. 10 Gorilla Humpers. Whoopee taunted me on the way down.

Mosey around to the parking lot wall at Food loin.

Wall sits, hands in the air for a cadence count march. Whoopee added vocals to the count like we were in the military. The last line was “Gastone is a stud that we love”

Run to the top of the hill and back to the wall.

Shoulder taps to 10.

Top of the hill and back.

Shoulder taps to 15.

Top of the hill and back.

50 of each. Sumo Squats, Monkey Humpers, Squats

3 laps up hill backwards. Whoopee and Defib sprinted backwards up the hill on the last set. It was close but I think Whoopee won.

Mosey behind building to the back of the old Harris Teeter.

Everyone on the railings to make a tunnel. Guy at the top bear crawls to the bottom and gets back up on the rails. Rinse and repeat twice.

Mosey over the wall out the street and get back to the start just in time.

The Moleskin:

If anybody has not noticed Timeframe has entered a different realm and is kicking butt and looking good. He looks to be the next beast forming in the Gastonia Pax. Good work Timeframe keep up the good work and push that Jester into a corner.

Next, Wattsup continues to impress with his push and desire for the betterment of himself. We all notice and you help push us all when you do it the way you do.

This morning was chilly but we are close to an end of the cold and hopefully a break in the rain at least some. Turtleman has some weird 30 degree rule that he will not show, SV.

March 30 Convergence at Folsom, should be fun.

Lattini Run 8K March 30th.

Community Run 5k April 13th. Sign up you can do it, even if you don’t think you can.

May 5th, The Summit. Hike from base camp to the top of Mt. Mitchell and back down.  5.5 miles up and then back. 7:30am start time.

Prayers.

Gastone Out!

Crossroads – P200 Training Hits the Home Stretch

17 posted for Crossroads on this wonderful Sunday. A few ruckers and a lot of runners. Props to the guys who participated in the Rooster the day before and made it out today. Pizza Man grabbed a recovery ruck while Gold Digger, to no one’s surprise, was seen burning up the streets as he normally does. Keep up the great work.

We went through announcements and, as we were wrapping those up, we were introduced to Sgt. Big Country. This a REAL hero and HIM folks! He saw the flag and came by to ask what we were about. He told us he had lost his leg while serving our country and just told us how seeing those colors just triggered something in him. He does some motivational speaking as well. Sgtbigcountry is his Instagram handle.
YHC asked him if he’d lead us in the pledge and a prayer and, I must say, that was one of THE most inspiring and emotional pledges I’ve ever been a part of. We gave him all the info so don’t be surprised if you see him around some of our AOs soon.

Anouncements: P200 upcoming, 2nd F on 3/22 at the Ole Dallas Brewery to watch some roundball, Joe Davis run, 3/9 Nomads to F3 Metro (ask Freight for details)

Folsom Pays For It’s Actions

By now, many of you are well aware of the ongoing butt-hurt I (and Allen Tate) have experience since last Thursday. Allen Tate was originally scheduled as the Q for today and was dying (maybe that wasn’t the best term to use!) to take revenge on all of the PAX today. Unfortunately, after a bit too much rock-pushing Sunday and some health worries, it wasn’t a good idea for him to Q and I was more than ready to step in! I felt like my Trail O Tears workout from Painlab this weekend was a real crowd-pleaser and, considering I was still sore from it on Monday, I knew it was just the type of thing to bring to Folsom for “revenge”.

Let me say this first, what a crowd at Folsom today! 15 men posted this morning. We have had a steady influx of FNGs so far this year and they keep returning. Our newer guys are bringing FNGs so the fever is spreading. It really is exciting!

We did have a FNG this morning so the disclaimer was given! We welcome Lion King to Folsom!

Warmarama:

Let me just tell ya, ol’ Tee-ron was pretty fired up and ready to bring the heat today! I intentionally came out of the gate with a fast pace to set the tone with 20 SSH in cadence. FNG was probably like “Oh crap, what am I doing here”.

Also, we did:
10 Toy Solders in cadence
10 Cotton Pickers in cadence

Grab a block and let’s move to the tennis courts.

Beatdown: This is the Trail O Tears!

First up, Route 66 with Mike Tysons at each mid-court and between courts across the Tennis Courts (1 MT at the first stop, 2 at the 2nd, 3 at the 3rd, etc). Being that this is Folsom and we push rocks ’round these parts, we did a 12th set at the end of the courts. (a suggestion to all of you who want to work the quads, do Mike Tysons without the curb. It is a different exercise!)

Plank for the 6 and some Nolan Ryans to mix it up. Pause for a Countoff and back to it.

For our trip back, a modified Route 66. Bear Crawl across the courts, and do Low Squats at each mid-court and between courts (1 Squat at the first stop, 2 at the 2nd, 3 at the 3rd, etc)

Plank for the 6. Recover.

I altered a bit from the Painlab version to give the shoulders a quick rest. Rudolph commented Saturday that I had totally blasted the shoulders going back to back with Route 66’s and blocks so I felt like breaking it up would be better and I think it was. Let’s work on those abs.

2 circuits of:
LBCs 15 IC
Rosalitas 15 IC
Big Boy Situps 10 single count

1 circuit of:
Flutter Kicks 15 IC
American Hammers 15 IC
X-Crunches 10 single count

I debated another set but time is flying by so time to grab a block. Walk with your block across the court and between each court, do 10 curls and 10 overhead presses (yes Medicine Woman, both exercises) including the end (Rock-pushing!). Plank for the 6, let’s bring it back. Plank for the 6.

Now we return, doing 10 Cinder Block Swings between each court (like kettlebell swings). That ends up being 60 swings for everyone except Roundup who did like 1,387. Plank for the 6.

I had a few minutes before my finale so I turned the planks into Blood on the Concrete (Makhtar Ndiayes) – 10 in cadence.

Recover….errr…wait, let’s grab the blocks and do 10 Get-ups! Lots of modifying here but I’m not judging. Those are hard to do! I think my long lanky body helps here!

Ok, circle up, we have about 4 minutes left. Time for some Chumbawumba! Everyone left it on the courts as we did Side Straddle Hops through the song and Burpees for every “I get knocked down”. Way to push guys!

Return to the parking lot. 22 for the Vets. Now I’m done! Time.

Announcements: Pledge. Convergence on 3/30 at Folsom, P-200 on 3/22 and 3/23. I forgot to announce there is also a 2nd F event at Old Dallas Brewery this month on Feb. 22nd. Prayer Requests: Allen Tate, AT’s mom, Rockabilly’s mom, MW’s 2.0 and a family member. YHC took us out in prayer.

Moleskin:

Thanks everyone for coming out today. I always enjoy Q’ing. I was especially excited today to try this Trail O Tears workout with Folsom. It was tough Saturday and it pushed Painlab so while I wanted to wear you guys out, I mostly wanted to bring a workout that would push us all. I think I did both. It fires me up to see a big group out there and I’m really excited about Folsom right now. Also, props to AT for getting out there, but mostly for playing it smart today and modifying as needed! We joke around all the time but that is not always an easy thing to do.

5k at The Storm

With the P200 getting close, YHC needs to start logging a few more miles each week. Hopeful that a couple of other P200 PAX would post today, I decided to plan a Weinke that involved a good amount of running. After the typical Broke warmup of SSH’s, Don Q’s and Moroccan Nightclubs x10IC, we started on our journey.

Mosey out the lower entrance to Lakewood Road and stop for some Merkins, Plank Jacks and Shoulder Taps, all x10IC. Back to your feet and across Lake Drive and up Armstrong to the roundabout for a salute to the morning commuters. Monkey Humpers, Rosalita’s and LBC’s x15IC. After a mosey down the main entrance we paused in front of the school for three rounds of Dips and Derkins x20OYO. Mosey through the parking lot and around the back of the school for a stop at the back entrance. Mike Tyson’s and American Hammers x10OYO, run to Hwy. 74 and back and repeat. Around the back of the school and up to the baseball field for 10 Burpee’s then backtrack around the rear of the school and back to the start. Still got some time and only at 2.90 miles so let’s knock out 10 more Burpee’s and mosey around the parking lot to get in a total of 3.15 miles.

Still had time for 6 minutes of Mary and 5 Burpee’s for an imaginary train heard by Sister Act.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

If you’ve ever heard Tiger pray, he almost always quotes this verse at the start. God didn’t design us to go non stop and never rest. He told us to rest on the seventh day, HE rested after creating the Heavens and the Earth, and Jesus found time to rest even when he was surrounded by people. Examine your life and find time to rest.

The STORM 2/20/19

I’m posting this late, but I forgot to ask Breaker  Breaker for a login.

Disclaimer:

Warm Up:
Happy Jacks (5 SSH IC followed by 2 Squats)
Windmill x 10 (IC)
Grass Picker x 10 (IC)
MNC x 20 (IC)
Merkin x 10 (IC)
Shoulder Taps 15 (IC)
Peter Parker x 15 (IC)
Parker Peter x 15 (IC)

Routine 1:
So I had each PAX get on a parking space line and we did ascending bear crawls.  Starting at the curb we did 1 derkin and then bear crawled to the opposite curb (maybe 10 yards?) and did 2 irkins, bear crawl back and do 3 derkins and so on until we hit 13.  Nice and painful routine to start with.

Routine 2:
Staying in the front of the school we did something I like to call Crazy 8’s.  This is a routine where we do a choice of 3 exercises followed by a sprint up the hill repeated 8 times.

  • 8 Boxcutters
  • 8 “Big Boy” Sit-ups
  • 8 Burpees
  • Crazy Eight run around the island
  • Repeat 8 times

Routine 3:
11’s.  Each pax did 10 jumping lunges and run down the hill and perform 1 Diamond merkin and so on.

Ended with the Circle of Trust

Yeeeee-Haaa

With the Rooster going on and Montross having the Q at Painlab, I wasn’t sure how many PAX would actually show at Folsom for my Q on Saturday. But true to form, Folsom never disappoints. 19 total PAX, including 2 FNG’s that Sparky has been EHing for a couple of weeks, eager to push the rock for the next hour. Here’s what we did:

Full disclaimer…I’m an idiot, modify as needed, etc, etc..

Warmup with  SSH’s, Don Q’s and Moroccan Nightclubs, all x10IC then head for the tennis courts.

Time for a little DORA with a twist…AKA SWIPER!!

Partner up and both PAX start together on the sideline of Court 1. Partner wheelbarrow across first court and then perform 20 Burpee’s as a team. Reverse positions for partner wheelbarrow across second court then perform 100 Merkins as a team. Continue in this fashion across all six courts with 20 Burpee’s at third court, 200 LBC’s at fourth court, 20 Burpee’s at fifth court and 300 Squats at the last court. When your team is finished, don’t plank for the six, go back and pick them up.

After this we did a little cool down running by doing Figure 8’s through the courts. Run the baselines and Karaoke across the sidelines of each court to the opposite end. Rinse and repeat with NUR instead of run.

The parking lots at Folsom are almost as bad as the one’s at Mt. Hollywood, so while we’re on the courts let’s go ahead and do some core work. Grab a different partner and perform the following:

One partner runs down and back while the other does AMRAP of the called exercise then flapjack. Exercises were:

Big Boys

Flutter Kicks

American Hammers

Freddie Mercury’s

Dolly’s

French Fries

Mosey down to the amphitheater for some work on the upper and lower body. Three round of each of the following:

1 min wall sit then 10 Hip Slappers

20 Jump Squats, 20 Dips, 20 Rocky Balboa’s and 20 Derkins (no rest between exercises)

Finish it off with a mosey to the park entrance and back to the start.

Moleskin / COT

How many of you have tried to EH someone on to have them say something like, “I need to get in better shape before I join you guys” or “I would just slow you down or be way behind”? I heard a motivational quote the other day that offers a good response. I don’t know who said it, but I like it.

“Dead last finish is greater than did not finish, which trumps DID NOT START!”

Thanks to Montross for allowing me to Q. Folsom is a great AO and if you haven’t had a chance to post there I strongly encourage you to give it a try. The mumble chatter is nonstop, the fellowship is great, the workouts are painful and the Coffeerama is the best in all of F3.

We rolled into Ingles at 525, Hacksaw plants the shovel flag! We get in close to 4 miles!

Thanks Hacksaw and Roundup for the push, if it wasn’t for y’all, I wouldn’t have ran this morning!
