Stupid Synchronizing and The Sifter

9 posted at Friday’s newest AO for some partner work.  Here’s what I remember:

The Thang:

  • 10 x SSH (IC)
  • 10 x Mike Tysons (IC)
  • 10 x Dying Cockroach (IC)

Mosey towards Davis Park.  Stop at the church for

  • 30 x Toe Touches* (IC) *Some called these V-Ups.

Mosey to intersection of Park & Kingston.

When most of us posted the first time, we only knew one guy at the workout… our sponsor.  Our first round today, we are going to partner up and stay in sync with our partner as we run up and down Park and do the following exercises at each end:

  • 10 x HRMerkins (sync w/partner)
  • 20 x Apolo Ohnos (sync w/partner)
  • 30 x LBCs (sync w/partner)

3 x down and back.  6 total sets of the exercises.  Partners were:

  • Clampett & Dr. Seuss
  • Dirt & Tesla
  • Watts Up & Orangeman
  • Virus, Freon & Flintstone

The push and the fellowship of intentionally working with a partner was great, as always.  The connections we make with the other PAX in The Gloom is The Glue.

Mosey to The Scout Hut @ First Presbyterian for some more fun:

  • 10 x Dips (IC)
  • 15 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)

After some time in F3, you find your guys and become part of a Shieldlock.  These are the guys that you can count on to help keep you accelerating.  In “Freed to Lead”, they talk about The Sifter as the way that life will throw twists and turns at you that will sift out lesser friends, leaving you with only your strongest core group.  Getting after it in The Gloom repeatedly solidifies the Shieldlock and provides a foundation of strength.

For this part, we did Stupid Synchronous Mountain Climbers.  Each pair from earlier found another pair and with feet at the base of the wall, one pair did

  • 10 x Mountain Climbers (count left only)

while the other pair did

  • 10 x Australian Mountain Climbers (count left only)

When the Australians would come down, the other pair would go up, so there were always 2 down and 2 up, working in sync.  We repeated this for 3 rounds.

Another round of

  • 8 x Mahktar Ndiayes (IC)

And we head back towards the flag, stopping for

  • 30 x Toe Touches (IC)

Time for Mary

  • Flintstone – 15 x Crunchy Frogs (IC)
  • Clampett – 16 x Merkins (IC)
  • Orangeman – 10 x Burpees (OYO)
  • Dr. Seuss – 15 x American Hammers (IC)
  • Freon – 20 x Heels to Heaven (OYO)

Moleskin:

Great to see Dirt and Watts Up back today, and of course running EC.  These HIMs push every day, and are getting results.  Both had been training for work this week and both kept pushing the rock while out of town.  If you want to get better, look to these men as examples.

Everyone who posts, whether it’s regularly or just one time is looking for something.  You don’t get up for a 5:30 (or 6:30 or 7:00) workout for no reason.  The ones that don’t come back didn’t connect.  It’s a major part of what we do to make sure that the FNG is taken care of.  That the Six is taken care of.  We’ve all been there and know how much that pick-me-up means.  It’s obviously a sponsor’s job to connect with a FNG, but if you see a PAX you don’t know, go out of your way to connect.  That’s the glue that will keep them coming back.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead

Study

A few men got out and ran or rucked this morning, then met up for the Word to start the week.

Psalm 119:105 ,Your word is a light to my feet and a lamp to my path.

By the regular study of Gods word we can navigate through this life in a way that glorifies God and lead our families and others in this same direction! Your leading others whether you know it or not! Are you leading them to a path of destruction? Or are you leading them to the one who offers eternal life?
Seuss sends and a few others send me some awesome words of encouragement on a regular basis. In one of the text he sent just the other morning it said “ Christ is the foundation from which the new man must draw the influences of life and strength or he will decay everyday!
The thing is, when we aren’t in Gods word regularly, we don’t just stay in the same place spiritually… we tend to get swept down river grabbing at other things to save us, only to be swept further down river because it was just a rotten limb… but thankful we have a God who cares and comes to us in our time of need!! We don’t have to fight this river to get to him, he comes to us, that’s a good God!

when we study Gods word it renews us, it transforms us, we start to see things for what they are! We tend not to fall into traps and snares of this life!  We also can see to help others that are around us !

Great group of guys. Fun times were had and we had a medium amount of Mumble Chatter.

Gastone Out!

The Goat – noodles for arms

After a  disclaimer we began a warm-up of SSH IC and then a easy mosey up the stairs and back to the fire station.

Little bit of math but the PAX was able to get through it. Exercise included 4 stations at each corner (fire station, corner of school, rail road bridge, doffers) 5 burpees, 10 merkins, 15 squat jumps as a baseline. Each station number meant multiply the workout by that number…(ended with 20 burpees, 40 Merkins, 60 squat jumps for those not wanting to do the math…)

Thursday Night Football

12 Pax showed up at warming Midoriyama for the old man Q. Kinda warm and a little breezy and here we go.
Warmup: SSH x 10 IC, Cotton Pickers x 10 IC, Abe Vigoda x 10 IC, the allegedly patented Right over Left stretch x 5 and then the alledgedly un-patented Left over Right stretch x 5.
Pledge.
Mosey to Dog Park Hill for 22’s. 20 Merkins at the bottom, mosey up the hill for 2 LBC’s, mosey down the hill. 18 merkins, 4 LBC’s and so on until 2 Merkins and 20 LBC’s. The bat flippers crushed it as usual but everyone finished.
Since we are here and have a football. Let’s play frisbee rules football on half of the big soccer field. Plays were made. Touchdowns were scored. No reported injuries. The heat seemed to zap the energy level towards the end so back to the flag. Sister Act would have had at least three penalties if we had a referee! We didn’t keep score but I believe my team won by at least two touchdowns!

Announcements: Remember items for the Service project. Ruck event on May 22nd.

Prayer Requests: Big Pappy, Sister Act’s family, Gumby’s mom, Wojo’s sister, Law Enforcement in Watauga County, EZ Rider’s family friend, Tater Hole and son, Costner family.

Get a Grip!

You ever have one of those “themes” that keeps running through your head but you don’t know why…  enter Get a Grip!  For a week or better I was having thoughts of how so many things tend to grip us in life.  The pandemic, sickness, job woes, tragedy,  you name it, we hear them at the end of every workout during the COT.  So that got me thinking how could I tie my Q w/ grip.  I searched the NIV and found 11 references to the word grip in the bible.  Nearly all dealt with how someone was “gripped” or “locked” in fear over something.  I remembered having a bunch of small brick pavers that were the perfect size to “grip” during the workout so after a short warm up we all grabbed 2 blocks and got busy.  The day was also the first of May (5/1/21) so each exercise followed this pattern as well.  Remember, as I pointed out at the end of the workout, when something has a grip on you always remember that God has got an even tighter grip on us and will never let go!

GET a GRIP: (I wasn’t sure how to attach in this format)

  1. Get A Grip On Your Sleep
“You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because
reality is finally better than your dreams.” — Dr. Seuss
  2. Get A Grip On Your Body
“Be careful about reading health books. Some fine day you’ll die of
    a misprint.” — Markus Herz
We’re obsessed with looking fit and tanned and having all the
latest gadgets, yet on most days, we sit more than we sleep. Don’t
overcomplicate health. It doesn’t always have to be 10,000
steps. Ten more than yesterday will do.
  3. Get A Grip On Your Mind
“I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet.” —
    Mahatma Gandhi
  4. Get A Grip On Your Words
“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.”
    — Rudyard Kipling
Better thoughts lead to better words. What you say shapes who
you are. In fact, how you experience the world is in large part
defined by how you describe that experience.5. Get A Grip On Your Food
“Let thy food be thy medicine.” — Hippocrates
What comes out of your mouth can only be as good as what
you put in. We are what we eat, so let’s eat less of what we don’t
want to be. Drink water, wait minutes before you have seconds,
delay the dessert and when you’re 80% full, tune in. Do you really
    need more?
  5. Get A Grip On Your Finances
“If you want to change the fruits, you will first have to change the
    roots.” — T. Harv Eker
  6. Get A Grip On Your Job
“Transferring your passion to your job is far easier than finding a
job that happens to match your passion.” — Seth Godin
In Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, Angela
Duckworth shares the story of the three bricklayers:
When asked, “What are you doing?” the first bricklayer replied:
“I’m laying bricks.” The second bricklayer answered: “I’m putting
up a wall.” The third bricklayer responded, with pride in his voice:
    “I’m building a cathedral.”
The biggest barriers between a job, a career and a calling are
made of perspective. No matter what you do, how you choose to
do it is up to you.8. Get A Grip On Your Attention
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is
    all.” — Oscar Wilde
So look up from your phone, shut down that display, take in
your surroundings, make the most of today.
  7. Get A Grip On Your Possessions
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but
when there is nothing left to take away.” — Antoine de SaintExupéry
  8. Get A Grip On Your Time
“Half our time is spent trying to find something to do with the time
we have rushed through life trying to save.” — Will Rogers
If it won’t matter a week, a month or a year from now, is it
    really worth doing?
  9. Get A Grip On Your Relationships
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” —
    Eleanor Roosevelt
The best thing you can do for the world and to anger your
enemies is to be nothing like them. There might indeed be toxic
people in your life, but they don’t come with an obligation to
engage with them.12. Get A Grip On Your Happiness
“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of
    happiness.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
We confuse pleasure and happiness when in reality, it’s not
about glass half full vs. glass half empty, but about what you
choose to see when you look at the glass.
  10. Get A Grip On Your Life
“There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done.
One is called Yesterday and the other is called Tomorrow.” —
    Dalai Lama
All of these are different variations of saying: one small step taken
today is better than a large step left to be taken tomorrow.
The world truly is small. We all live in the same place and it’s
called the present. All you have is today. The question that
    remains is:
Will you choose to make it matter?
    Come To Grips
I hope this makes you get to grips with how much of your grip you
can get back. You have a lot more control than you think.
“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize
this, and you will find strength.” — Marcus Aurelius
