Back to Where It All Started (Folsom 3-21-24)

Having attended several weekday mornings at Folsom over the last couple of weeks due to a night class at the Fire Department, Pony Boy asked if I’d be interested in Qing one.  This is where it all started for me.  BTW Boondock I know how you feel when someone (aka Gearwrench) invites you out and doesn’t show themselves right Sparky!!!  Comin in hot I arrived with about “2 minutes Q”… gosh I hope Gumby never copyrights that saying!  Solid crowd of 9 HIM showed to know!  The Thang…

Warm Up:  My usual 60 second circle (always good for a laugh & to get the mumblechatter started)  Anytime you try to get guys to count off that early in the morning is a hoot!   High Knees Running / 1 Burpee / SSHs / 2 Burpees / Moroccan Night Clubs / 3 Burpees / Imperial Walkers / 4 Burpees / Rt Ovr Lt / Lt Ovr Rt / 5 Burpees

Mosey to the Flagpole stopping at each light post (not flagpole) for a 1/2 Burpee then flip to a Crunchy Frog

Pledge

Mosey to the middle backside of the Citizens Resource Center where we partnered up.  Booyah Merkin in the middle, crisscross & run to the end for a SSH counting up to 11.  That road was a little longer than I remember!

Mosey to the exercise shed stopping at the stairs for a 5-count calf raise at each step.  Over to the shed for a 1 minute round-robin on each piece of equipment.  BTW that was Tony Little with the Gazelle machine!  Omaha with about “2 minutes Q” (Dang I owe Gumby more royalties).

Mosey back to the flag w/ another 5-count calf raise on the stairs and a final 22 for the Vets!

Guys it was an honor to lead you this morning.  Hope you enjoyed it.  Thanks.

Yee Haw Look at them Boots! Crossroads 2/4/24

Great crowd at Crossroads this morning with some good weather (albeit cold) to boot.  Hal said he was tired and looking forward to some 8:80s following a solid 12 miler w/ a gang of misfit, no-rep, backblast shut-outs from Old School the day before.  Mucho rucking and running was done by 12 HIM.  Sister Act joined the COT changing into his work uniform which with those boots and tucked jeans could have easily doubled for a night on the town at the Blue Oyster!  We moved indoors to discuss the LDP for Qsource.

VQ @ Pain Lab

It was a cold morning at the final Gashouse / Pain Lab for 2023, so cold in fact there was ice on the ground… ok it had apparently been dumped from a cooler the night before but you get the drift!  Flintstone had the Q for the bootcampers & warmed us up a little.  We broke w/ 7 PAX for PL.

The Thang:  Zombie walked w/ coupons down to the amphitheater.  We completed the warm up with a round of 60 Second Circle (High Knees – 1 Burpee, SSHs – 2 Burpees, Moroccan Nightclubs – 3 Burpees, Imperial Walkers – 4 Burpees, & 30 seconds each of the “patented” RoL & LoR.   Next up was box jumps up the amphitheater rows (5) followed by 5 curls.  In honor of 2023 we completed 4 rounds w/ a final 3.  Next was Flip Flops w/ 1 partner counting up to 23 LBCs & the other counting down from 23 Squats.  Instead of Merry Christmas it was on to Happy New Year w/ Step-ups & Derkins.  Note to self… I think Tube forgot to yell Happy New Year as even Whoopie thought we completed enough to qualify for the Chad 1000!  With just 2 more PAX & ~ 15 minutes left YHC Omaha’d so we could move up to the top of the parking lot to play w/ some Spartan workout props.  We rotated through tire flips, sledgehammers (not the PAX although he was here), farmer carries, OH claps w/ bricks, gravel bucket carries, & squat presses or curls.  Back to the flag for about a minute of Mary.  TIME!  It was honor to lead you men.

COT:  Beer mile today @ 10:30 / New Year’s Day convergence @ Martha Rivers Park @ 07:00 (EC ruck & run @ 06:00)

Midoriyama Afloat

I’ll be the first to tell you I was not looking forward to Qing after a day spent hanging out with the family inside because of the rain, rain, rain!  But I told my M when she asked, “that’s why you Q, it holds you accountable”!  The rain kept coming as I drove to Midoriyama but as often happens God decided to give us a break for about 45 minutes!  Seven PAX showed to work off some Christmas day vittles and get better.

The Thang:  A quick (well kind of) warmup of 60 second circle.  Gumby’s counting trickery was soon foiled by Gavel and his keen mastery of numbers!  Next we mosied to the shelter to escape the rain I thought would be present.  A round of what I called Dirty Down & Backs, kind of like Dirty 11s but since the shelter was rather short, I called lunge-walks down 1 burpee then bear-crawls back 2 burpees and so forth until we got to 11 burpees.  Next was something I called Flip-Flops.  1 partner counted LBCs up to 25 while the other counted down 25 squats.  Next it was “Merry Christmas”!  We each grabbed a spot at a picnic table & started doing step-ups until a PAX called “Merry Christmas”, then we switched to merkins until they called Happy New Year”!   Finally, we mosied back to the flag & TIME!

The Forgotten Highlander (Crossroads 9-17-2023)

Great to have fall weather back!  Some ran and some rucked I think but we all got better hopefully.  Small crowd but quality was abound!  Afterwards we moved inside for a lesson on the luckiest (or unluckiest according to your perspective) man in WWII.  We reviewed The Forgotten Highlander by Alistair Urquhart a Japenese POW that actually built the bridge on the river Kwai.  This was a story about the ultimate in human will and survival and I would highly recommend you check it out.

I Said a “Small Medium Roast”…

How hard is it to get a coffee order right? Well, obviously, enough to cause one normally congenial and somewhat tranquil Blart to complain and spew explicatives over a FREE coffee! Before a truly enlightening conversation on the nuances of properly ordering a cup-o-Joe some ran, some rode, and one (YHC) just showed to Q! In our series on Leaders & Leadership, we learned about how the “lack” of leadership qualities lead to the My Lai massacre in Vietnam on March 16, 1968. If you’re looking for a great site to visit on Sundays Blart is knocking it out of the park with a little twist on the traditional Q-source where PAX pick someone they deem as a leader (or not) and share with the group.
