Month: February 2023 (Page 4 of 11)

Pancake lovers like Bologna

12 total showed up for a little QvQ practice for YHC. I’m testing out some ideas for the upcoming competition. It was a wonderfully warm February afternoon. For all of those that complied with my request to let your cars run all day back when it got really cold, thank you!

Warmup:

Sealjacks ic x 10

Don Quixotes ic x 10

Merkins position for about 45 seconds then 5 Merkins ic

Mosey to get a block and over to the parking lot……good grief!

Tha Thang:

P1 runs a lap around the parking lot. P2 starts doing reps. 3 blockees, 6 merkins, 9 squats. Rinse and repeat until your partner gets back. We did this for about 10 minutes.

After that we lined up along the curb just past shoulder width apart. The person at the beginning of the parking lot bear crawled to the end of the line and got back in place. Then the next person started bear crawling. Everyone else held the Al Gore pose. Picture an indian run but much slower. We did this fully through several rounds until we got to the other end of the parking lot. It was very amusing. We had slow bears, slower bears, and even a happy bear.

Spread out in the parking lot and get on a line for a parking space. Do 1 merkin on the line then plank crawl sideways to the line on the other side of the space. Now do 2 merkins. Go back and forth adding 1 merkin each time going up to 10.

Following the same method as above we did WWI situps and sidewinder crawls.

Next we used the same method as above but used 2 parking spaces lunging in between and doing squats on the line.

After that we moved back over to our blocks for the finale. Do 2 thrusters….ugh good grief! Then do 2 burpee block jump overs. Continue this going up by 2 reps each time until you get to 20. Well actually we ended due to time. I think I made it to the round of 12.

Moleskin:

Not too bad today. Just some ideas that popped in my head I thought we could test out. You may see parts of these show up in a QvQ near you. Or not, you don’t really think I’d show my cards before we compete, do you? Comeout to Midoriyama on 3/9 to watch me break Broke. If you are looking to push some rocks these QvQ’s are going to be a good place for it. Everyone is going to be bringing their A game so it’s likely to be hard. If you’re not, then meow somewhere else.

We start at 5 o’clock

Just a note for anyone who wants to come to Ground Assault.  We start earlier than everyone else.  Don’t be late.

We ran the Loops.  Ruckers rucked their usual route.

Dam to Dam Relay week.  Prayers for good health for all.

YHC took us out

I’m Broke

Sexy Suess, Fat JJ, Lightning McQuiche, and Flaming Hot Sargento’s Excellent Adventure

There was initially concern that the second running of the FRC D-2-D relay was going to get off to a rocky start. For the second year in a row, a charter member of the FRC pulled out of the relay. Why this year? His children had a reg season rec league b-ball games. Thankfully, JJ, who’s children were BOTH playing in a Championship Rec League Game on the same day, decided to tag along. It’s good to see at least some people still honor commitments and have proper priorities!

Sargento provided the ride, Captains chairs in the back seat!!! There was some trepidation among the group as Seuss took the front passenger seat and claimed the title of “navigator.” JJ provided the obligatory 24 bottles of water for 4 people (each of us also brought our own fluid resuscitation) and we were off!!!

We arrived with time to spare for leg 1 and mumble chatter ensued, with no less than 3 other teams asking us “where’s Tesla?” Not one asked about what FRC stood for, a point that we will need to provide education on for next years race. Suddenly, the “gun” went off and Seuss was off with other runners, who were all told to NOT RUN IN THE ROAD. About this time, Quiche popped open his “coke” (it was actually a Pepsi because they were cheaper) and prepared to run.

Summary of legs 1-4- We ran well. Order was Seuss, JJ, Quickie, Sargento. Seuss finished his run only to complain that a driver told him to NOT RUN IN THE ROAD while he was running in the road!!! Found Breaker-Breaker at the first exchange zone, who had already put a moratorium on “F-bombs” and crude jokes from Tesla, apparently. High point of these legs was Seuss sweating so much that he had to put a towel on the seat! Handoffs were clean and we moved quickly; Sargento had a South Point talent pageant that Queso was a part of that he had to get back to by 600. It was noted that after his first leg, Sargento drank a muscle mild, some vitamin supplement drink, ate a sandwich, and had some yogurt.

Summary of legs 5-8- We slowed a little. Same order. Seuss’ knee started hurting (and gosh darn did he complain about it). High point (or low) occurred at transition zone 7-8. Before Quise started, he told Sargento “based on my pace on the last leg, I am expecting to finish in 42-43 minutes,” hoping to shave even seconds off of their time with great transitions. Qiusc arrived at the exchange zone at 43:10 (late) with Sargento only to be seen streaking from the vehicle shedding some big red parka WHILE STUFFING HIS FACE WITH GUMMY BEARS!!! Needless to say, Seuss and Keshe were not amused, as precious time was lost.

Summary of legs 9-12- We survived. Same order. With an average age of somewhere in the mid 50s (thanks, Seuss), we realized stamina was waning. Keesh drank another “coke.” Sargento ate more gummies, a bag of chips, another yogurt, and I think a banana after his second run, trying to set a record for the most weight gain during a relay. Seuss didn’t know where we were, and it was okay. At this point, JJ didn’t really care about the race, as the first championship game was done and his son’s team WON!! A replay of the leg 7-8 handoff occurred at zone 11-12, with Sargento trying to find a satellite signal in the middle of nowhere SC, forgetting his bib, and then trying to EH each of the other people who were standing there (they were all already in F3). Finally, we crossed the finish line killing 64 people together as a team, finishing 10th overall and 3rd in the Master’s division!!

POST RACE: While waiting for Sargento, 6 very fit members of the DAM-sels team approached us to take their picture. Except it wasn’t “us.” It was Seuss. Seuss fumbled briefly with the camera they handed him and tried to take a picture, only for us to hear one say “move closer for a better picture” while JJ and I stood wide eyed and dumfounded. There was absolutely no doubt this group of women seemed to be attracted to the Old Geezer!!! And then what happened next? You will have to ask Seuss 😊

A few minutes later, Bubba Sparxx took his shirt off in the parking lot creating a moment for all of us exactly opposite of what had occurred to Seuss.

The trip home was filled Sargento eating more food, discussions about mispronouncing Westminster (no “I” between the ”n” and the “s”) and Pakistan (the “a” is like “yawn”), learning about “fat Seuss” and Fat JJ (HE HAS PICS!!!), and Sargento complaining about not having beer at the end of the race and then driving past a brewery to get to Queso’s beauty pageant on time, another example of misplaced priorities.

All in all, an unbelievable time with 3 amazing HIMs. Already starting to prepare for next year!

Word:

I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Was it something we said?

0530 hits and an experienced group of Pax have assembled.  Lots of chatter, but it quickly settles.

Brief disclaimer and contrary to expectations,  we take off around Snoballs and across the street to the bank. Good bit of chatter about a warmup or lack thereof.

We stop in the parking lot for

20 SSH IC

2 8 count body builders

20 LBC IC

23 MNC

Given today is Feb 20, 2023, seemed appropriate.

A lap around the back parking lot and then over to the entrance to the funeral home.

Double 11s

Merkins/LBCs at entrance

Squats/Apollo Onos at building.

We stopped about halfway through for a quick round of ab work.

Shortly thereafter, the few lights on, were now off. 🤷‍♂️

Back to the bank.   Flintstone twice mentioned hearing what he claimed to be a train.   So 5 burpees, a lap around the bank and then 5 more.

Another lap, before heading back to the flag.

We managed to get in The Pledge of Allegiance before time expired.

Watts Up Powering Down

The Elixir of Magnanimity

YHC had the Q at the Gashouse and it was going to be a good day. We had five that stayed for Bootcamp. The rest rightly opted for the pain lab.

After a combined disclaimer and warm up, we went our separate ways.  The bootcampers stopped by the flag for the pledge and moseyed across the street to the business park and went to the bottom of the hill.

We would do an exercise at the bottom, sprint to the top, and do ten burpees and then slow mosey down to the bottom and repeat  the pax all claimed a number and had the option of sitting out when their number was called  no one chose to do that.  We did lunges, sprint, burpees, mosey down the hill  and cover two of the core principles of f3 .  Repeat with lbc’s, flutter’s, Moroccan nightclubs, and a couple more.  The sprint and burpees were taxing, so our mosey down was slowwwww.

After six rounds we moseyed to the library.  My favorite traffic island had been leveled and paved over so a quick modification was made.  We partnered up and p1 would bear crawl and p2 would do 20 squats and go tag p1 and bear crawl.  We did this to the top of a hill and then moseyed to the bottom for Dora.

p1 exercises at the bottom lot and p2 runs up both sets of stairs and touches the tree of life and runs back down  100 merkins, 200 lbc’s, 300 squats

We then shared some laws of combat and a few items of wisdom to ponder and discuss.  Cover and Move, Simple, Prioritize and Execute, and Decentralized Command.

The worth of honesty

The joy of work

The delights of humor

The magnetism of character

The wisdom of Perparation

The mastery of self-discipline

The importance of tenacity

The force of simplicity

The value of confidence

The attraction of modesty

The virtue of Patience

The elixir of magnanimity (Difficult to say when it is 28 degrees)

The satisfaction of serving

The habit of Good judgment

The rewards of living well.

The nobility of spirit.

We then lunged walked up the hill towards garrison because Stroganoff said he needed to do more legs before the Mortimer.  YHC saw another traffic island and was demonstrating the next exercise when Strogi reminded me we had two minutes.  A quick Omaha and mosey across the street to return to home and finish the pledge again because the Pain Labbers hadn’t done it yet.  #America

Yesterdays favorites and today’s hits

It had been a long time since YHC stepped up for a bootcamp Q. The ‘ole site Q needed some bodies to sign up and today was the day. In recognition of the time between and the extended time since the PAX was blessed with musical blessings, the time had come for that too. This is what happened…

Start with the Pledge of Allegiance

No disclaimer, all experienced HIM today.

Warmup of Goofballs, Don Quixote’s, something else and even a couple of Burpees. Freight carried the JBL.

Mosey down the road to the soccer field over the hill for the first round of action. Four Corners with a regular lap, then an Escalator lap. First corner we did 10 Merkins, 2nd corner was 20 Goofballs, 3rd corner 30 Imperial Walkers and 4th corner 40 American Hammers. After the single count first lap, we escalated the 2nd lap and the burn started. It was good.

Next on the list was Dora 123. Partner up and do 100 Big Boys, 200 Dying Cockroaches and 300 LBCs. Partner 1 exercised while partner 2 ran to the fence across the field. It was good too.

Last, we moseyed back over the hill to the long, skinny parking lot for the last session, Suicide 11s. On one end we did Bobby Hurleys and the other end was V-Ups. On the in between part, do a suicide style halfway run, go back to the start then finish all the way across. Just a little extra movement but it was effective. Most of the PAX got this one done before we had to mosey back to the start. This was good.

The musical accompaniment was exceptional, according to YHC, and it helped keep the mind of the excessive ab work we did. The JBL is likely to be used more and more for sure.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead again men, I appreciate all of you!
