Tag: The Labyrinth (Page 7 of 10)

And for the final time……

So is it the cold or Covid or fear keeping numbers down? Either way we have a very eager strong group of HIMS Present.
Pledge
warm up : goofballs x 10 Ic
SSH x 10 Ic
Makhtar N’Diayes x 10 IC
Plank Jacks x 10 IC
Advise all present that should they want running ( only JJ and Waterboy at this time) then they should post at Pub tomorrow as with today’s final tally we probably only traversed 1/10 of a mile except if you were to deduct the nur from the total then we are now in a negative column!
Mosey to road and instructed to “safely” nur to each of telephone poles and perform 5 burpees at each (5 total) I think
Now at Drs office for some more Non OSHA fun

Dirty Frogger 11’s ( performed in Riverwood road)
One side of road Bobby Hurleys and Mike Tysons at other with Burpees in the middle …. FUN!!
Move to drive and 10 inclined big boys and bunny hop to first pole
Mosey to parking lot ….just like last week JJ catches us off guard and yells,” Squirrel!” ( in actuality it was 2 deer)
The original plan was for partnering up … but this worked just as we’ll
One person would perform an exercise while the others performed the other called exercise until someone fails or stops brief rest and exchange
Exercise groupings were :
Al Gore/ lower plank
Jump lunge/ merkins
Burpees/ MNC
SSH/ Lbc
Jump squat with arms up / American hammers

Next over the wall and to the dock for climb up ( or in Waterboy’s case jump over! ) bear crawl down and 1 burpee twice over

Mosey to wall for countdown of 12 dips, 11 step ups/ 10 dips … all the away to 1 but wait somewhere in the midst of this comes Stinky BBird and Flintstone fresh from a run!! They join us and finish up back at start for final 3 minutes of core:

waterboy with star crunches ( he was avidly talking about holiday cakes from Lil Debbie and star cookies and all kinds of sweets … so he renamed his crab crunches for  20 count oyo

Flinstone pelted us with Freddy Mercuries IC x 15

lastly Stink Bird dropped Jane Fonda’s 15 each side

and were done

no announcements other than cancellations

prayers for Flintstones sister as they continue to isolate with many doctors what is going on

EZ Rider and his family

Nutria

Double Stuf family

moleskin

I advised the early group focus today was on legs and mostly joints as they lock up and freeze as we age and especially in the colder weather …. which today would serve me well along with the nur as in the normal ebb and flow of my day I came around a corner facing an adult pit bull …. thankfully he merely wanted me gone ( or maybe he was startled by my screams as that was all I had time for …. spray was nearby but I hesitated as he did not advance beyond 3-4 feet from me )

“….Stephen Sobota, 52 , Clavin.”

Not stinkfist too!!

Whoopee arrives follows by Watts up … although neither will participate in today’s main event …. Whoopee wants to run ( what is up with that!?) he will join us by the frozen banks of Lake Whoopeegonnagetcha before heading off for warmer(?) climes. Watts up believes he may have been Covid exposed and wishes to ruck safely by self … good to see both men.
Today’s players arrive just in time with Defib excitedly moving around ( doubt that the 27 degree temp had anything to do with that!)
JJ and Captain Stubing round our numbers off and away we go!
Defib had right idea …. I had no intention of giving disclaimer and reciting the pledge without a quick warmup to get some blood flow going.
Ssh IC x 20
Seal jacks single count of 20
Hand release Merkins 20 oyo
Plank jacks IC x 20

Now we can pledge and very brief discalimer

And away we go ….Whoopee exit stage left …
We mosey to park
At entrance 20 merkins oyo
Mosey to light for 20 more
Karaoke to next WHOOPS… light. Comes on we didn’t see , motion sensor! So we stop for 20 squats then lunge to next … we would Continue to each light using differnent previously called exercises usually traversing 2 lights but being “pulled back” one space (light)
Next to play area … swing s for suspended derkins and jump lunges and flutters all to the tune of 20 for 3 rounds
Now find a chilly icicle ridden bar to dead hang from for countdown from 20
Mosey long way to concessions where we pull up the the counter for 3 rounds of alternating calf raises 20 per
10 Australian men climbers and 10 suspended derkins
7 hand release merkins 13 monkey humpers 3 times I think
3 rounds of 20 dips, derkins and American hammers
Mosey back to play area for Indian run back to gates for 10 big boys and 10 crab crunchers quick run back to start
20 IC flutters called by JJ
Suddenly JJ yells “Squirrel !” And we all look into the sky where he says he saw the ISS go by

20 IC dying cockroaches called by Defib

Lastly Captain Stubing gives us 30 (? ) what the what ?!?    Squats oyo!
Time!

Pledge
Very brief disclaimer

Warm up of new routine I called Lungeabout
It was quickly renamed the Clavin Pokey ( and you shake it all about)
The Lungeabout …sorry Clavin Pokey is you put your right leg forward or lunge forward and back , lunge right and back right leg back and back, left leg back, left leg left and back finally left leg forward and back. We performed these 5 times.

5 burpees
10 hand release merkins
20 mountain climbers
30 lbcs
40 flutters

Mosey into park over to concession area and reperform previous 5 exercises except that now the 20 is now Australian mountain climbers using back of dugout

Mosey over to parking lot where we start at area near play area
Each of us had a turn calling an exercise until that person calls a halt and we run hard to driveway opening and walk back then tell all assembled what we are thankful for ( despite the hard ships of this year )
I started us with burpees and I’m thankful that even after losing my last and favorite uncle, my mother and my M battling breast cancer life continues on … we witnessed His majesty in the birth of our nephew and his wife’s first child a month ago …. Colt Allyn!
Next up was JJ with SSH and he’s thankful for his church moving into new facility the church itself has been able to continue and indeed thrive despite all going on …. and their Covid exposure is quite low!
Dry Rub with squats thankful for his family and job …. they were hardly affected during this tumultuous time!
Linus gave us crab crunchers and thankful for family especially those coming for holidays!
JK2 had us to perform “correct form” squats and he too was thankful for family and new job which as he started , we went into lockdown so he enjoyed time with family!
Defib gave us merkins and stated thanks for son and his counseling to help battle depression!
All great stuff ….. next we would call exercise and try to keep in mind time but this round thinking forward to 2021 and what we hope for
I began us with monkey humpers ( starting us facing play area) and looking forward to son who too battles depression due to these bizarre times but has finished drivers Ed zoom meetings and I look forward to his learning to drive and continuing to move towards adulthood!
JJ and calf raises on curb ….family cleaning out closets and realizing that time flys by …. the need to enjoy the times you are given!
Linus and heels to heaven spoke of promise of new year!
JK2 had us do 509 air presses give or take …. he is looking forward to spending more and more time reconnecting with his M now that the kids are getting older and can spend time by themselves in the house!

And lastly we have defib who gave us Rocky Bs …. he is looking forward to the days when we no longer need to wear masks all the time!!!

we walk cross the parking lot stopping at the last light on the left for 10 hand release Merkens quick mosey up to the gate where we bear crawl from the gate to the barricade rest a moment before all out run to the finish!

announcements are 1212 2020 Christmas Christmas party party

Shelby convergence hopefully no ice storm and no more ghost flag

thanksgiving morning tripled beat down if you’re up for it or not just choose one

lastly take time to smell the roses give thanks to the one who is above us all!!!

happy Thanksgiving

The Labyrinth – 11/18/20

2.2 miles of EC by Watt’s Up, EZ Rider and Dirt.  Thanks for running with me this morning men.

I haven’t Q’d the Labyrinth in a long time so I asked Clavin if I could Q today and he eagerly obliged.

No FNG’s so short disclaimer

Warm Up

Seal Jacks IC x 20

Mountain Climbers IC x 20

Cotton Pickers IC x 10

Mosey to the far shelter by the playground.

The Undercard

Dips, Inclined Merkins, Derkins OYO x 10 Rinse and Repeat x 10 x 5 x 5

I couldn’t do too many of these thanks to Flintstone and Watts Up using pavers on Monday and Tuesday.  At my age, I can’t do too many to begin with.

The Main Event

Meander to the parking lot.  Hippa gave me this idea last week at The Yank.  He did 11’s up Main Street with Burpees at each end and we stopped at three locations going up the hill for 7 Squats at each stop.  To say it was a GRIND is an understatement.

I revised it to be one Burpee at the start, run the length of the parking lot, stopping at each opening to the entrance road for 10 squats, and LBC’s (or any other AB exercise ) x 10 at the other end.

1 Burpee              100 LBC’s

2 Burpees            90 LBC’s

3 Burpees            80 LBC’s

4 Burpees            70 LBC’s

5 Burpees            60 LBC’s

6 Burpees            50 LBC’s

7 Burpees            40 LBC’s

8 Burpees            30 LBC’s

9 Burpees            20 LBC’s

10 Burpees         10 LBC’s

Everyone got in 8 rounds and some got in more.

Meander to the gate of the park and Jail Break back to the flag arriving at 6:15 am.

JK2 reminded me of the Pledge.  Thanks JK2

Good work today gentlemen!

Prayer Requests:

Defib’s son

Roscoe’s son

EZ Rider’s family

Tarpackers

That title get your attention? YHC had Q the day after the election in which all the talk was red vs blue. I thought the workout needed a blue vs red component to show that opposite sides could come together. The title comes from the name of a restaurant in St. Pauls, NC that YHC went to shortly after my M and I started dating. The restaurant is covered equally in UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC-Raleigh memorabilia. The goal of this workout was to show that we are still at a point where red and blue could still coexist.

530 post election day, let’s get going.

Quick disclaimer. Then, the pledge.

Warmup

SSH x 15

Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night…

Many view this as the postal slogan …. however are you aware that it ONLY is on one postal facility in New York City downtown?
Why title today’s beat down with this? Well, it was raining and gloomy …. and since it was anticipated that ETA was to bring us buckets of water I had a seperate game plan for us in case the pax wanted to safely to a Murph ( my choices were to be dips or burpees and diamond merkins or derkins as well as the squats and do these under th shelter, but thankfully the pax led me and the rest into the play area after the one mile run …. so thank you men for helping make the better choice ! Rain would actually relent while we performed our workout and I called out to the pax that for me personally I always reflect on the tireless service our men and women perform protecting this great nation . I also said  to call out if anyone knows of other pax that have served such as Oompa Loompa (marines), Slaw (navy) , and Toto ( national guard) . I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Doodles was in the National Guard as well.
Today has many meanings and I will not bore you with a recital as Roscoe very eloquently already beat me to it…. please read his BB for Ricky Bobby!
I also had an impromptu food drive of which many thanks go to JJ for remembering.
I also read Philippians 4 as it’s meaning is greatly needed now and in the lead up to Thanksgiving and it was part of Pastor Dickie Spargos message sSunday and in an interesting turn of events , JJ mentioned its use at his Church this past Sunday as well (Calvary N Charlotte )
pT test Saturday

Moleskin:

It was a typical F3 morning and workout.  However, with that said, I am personally very grateful to have this.  YHC makes every effort to not take this for granted and try to share with some Sad Clowns that I know.  It has been and continues to be a true blessing.

It was great to see Emoji out today.

Great push and good times had by all (as JJ so eloquently put it at the end).

Thank you to Clavin for the opportunity.

Sharpen Up November Challenge

Most men in life are in the middle of the bell curve  unless we choose to be be better than that.  If you believe you are one of those guys in the middle, then this is especially for you.    I am talking to the guys that post a couple days  a week and call it good.  The guys who are passively involved in one or two F’s.  The one’s who don’t avail themselves to all the items on the F3 Menu.  The ones who won’t do a CSAUP or Q a workout regularly.  The ones who don’t lives their lives intentionally and “oversleep” instead of making a decision to wake up and get after it.  This challenge is to push that bell curve to the right.

I have heard some clamoring among the Gashouse PAX for a challenge along the lines of the 40 day challenge so here it is.

No excuses!

VISION:  In November you are going to challenge yourself to a few required physical tasks as well as maintaining standards to increase your acceleration.

This challenge can be modified based on your fitness level but make sure you make it happen.

ARTICULATION:

1st F Requirements:

100 Miles combined run/ruck miles for the month to include:

-At least one ten-mile run and…

-At least one 12-mile ruck

-Or…one combined run/ruck of 15 miles

One Murph workout

Combined total of at least 25 workouts (30 minutes minimum, CSAUP’s count as 1)

Hydrate and take in protein after each workout.

Dietary Guidelines:

No Soda

No Fast Food

No sweets

No chips

More water

More salads, vegetables, and lean meats

No alcohol* (except at Bottom’s Up, F3 Gastonia’s only standing 2nd F event.  Limit yourself to two drinks (Moderation in all things, including moderation))

Cheat meals must be EARNED!   (with the exception of Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is a cheat day)

Seven workouts in a week earns you a cheat meal.

Going to Q-Source on Sunday morning earns a cheat meal.

If you have never been to a Q-Source session and go to your first one, you get an additional Cheat meal.

Persuasion:  Don’t be weak.  If you aren’t strong, you’re wrong.  That is it.  Make a shared Google Doc with your Shieldlock to track your mileage.  Journal your posts using Notes on your phone or some other method.  Post on Slack to update on your progress #accountability

YHC encourages Site-Q’s to schedule a long run or Ruck or Murph sometime during the month.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.  Otherwise, commit now to the challenge and quit making excuses.  Covid 2020 has been a real challenge  but we can continue to improve.  Prepare for this challenge now so you are ready.    The challenge begins with a ten miler at the Coconut Horse on November 1st, followed by Q-Source.  I am sure my friends in NOGA will make a similar option available.

EXHORTATION:  Quit being soft,

Roscoe

Records were attempted

My route brings me by GasHouse’s “International” Airport.  The airport was cordoned off for The Presidents visit.  While no advance team for the secret service were spotted, we were pretty sure we were being surveilled…

Nine men rolled into the labyrinth on this surprisingly warm morn, including one who managed to cross over from NoGa.

No FNGs, so a short disclaimer followed by The Pledge.

Warmup consisted of 10 SSH IC / 21 Hillbillies IC / 20 Moroccan Night Clubs IC

Mosey to Martha Rivers, stop a  one of the lights and zombie walk (Lunge – Lunge – Squat)  to the next one.

Move over to the Split Rail Fence for 20 Incline Merkins IC / 10 Derkins OYO

Mosey a bit further to another light, bear crawl to the next one.

Mosey on to the end of the parking lot near the playground.

Partner Up! Time for a little Dora.

Partner #1 runs up around the third island, 5 Merkins when cross the center lot, and back.

Partner #2 Starts off the 100 Merkins / 200 Monkey Humpers / 300 LBCs / 400 Squats.

Move over to the shelter for 4 sets of 25 Dips and 25 Step-Ups with the same lap for Dora in between.

Time to work our way back home.

Start to mosey back, stop at a light and zombie walk to the next.  During this phase, there was a complaint raised about it being a heavy leg day.  So, 10 HRMs!

Mosey up to  the entrance to the park.

Here YHC issues a challenge to those present to try to dethrone GoldDigger on Jailbreak.

I don’t know where Waterboy, nor JJ ranked, Stinky Bird did manage to beat Sister Act and tie Gump. But for F3, GoldDigger still stands at the top (but is now the 4th slowest overall  – his age must be showing)

And that is time.
