Formerly The Black Knight, this AO meets Monday mornings at 0530 at Pelicans on Union Road, near the entrance to Martha River’s Park

Gorilla Humpers: AKA Jane Not-so Goodalls

I arrived early after a prolonged absence and actually missed the turn as I drove past Bruster’s parking lot, thankfully no one was there to see me so I’ll just keep that secret to myself. It was good to get back out there and see some familiar faces. I seem to be more agreeable during the days when I post for workouts and a brief absence helps me appreciate the workouts that much more. I am thankful for the motivation from my brothers that keeps me coming back-thanks for posting today, especially Defib who ALMOST pulled an Epstein’s mother (look it up).

Here’s what I remember:

WU-it was a real one, not a speed-warm up I have often been accused of…I even counted slower than usual.

10 each IC: SSH, LBC, Merkin, Squat, CDD, Freddy Mercury

Pledge

Thang:

Quick audible to avoid the fog-Mosey to parking lot of old Harris Teeter/Lowe’s Foods for the main event:

Leap Frog: partner 1 does AMRAP of called exercise while partner 2 lunges approx 50 yards (light pole to light pole), then flapjack and P1 lunges to P2 while P2 does AMRAP of same exercise. The exercises were as follows (roughly 1 for each pax): Merkin, LBC, Scorpion Dry Dock, Flying Squirrels, Burps, Squats, Freddy Mercury, Gorilla Humpers, Diamond Merkins, Monkey Humpers. I have no idea what the order was except I think we started with Merkins and ended with Gorilla/Diamond/Monkey.

Lots of mumble chatter during Gorilla Humpers-I think T Square called them Jane Goodalls then that was modified into Jane Not-so Goodalls. Really added to the burn and I believe was a crowd favorite. Will definitely be seeing these in the near future.

I think Spiderman had a date with Stroganoff’s mother in the park and Stroganoff had to get to work early so they both left a little early (only 15minutes early). Technically this was not an Irish Goodbye, however, I’m the Q so I’ll say it was and no one can argue with me. The rest of us moseyed to the side wall of the building for some Dips and Derkins. 25 reps of each X 3 sets. That last set was pretty much a wash for me on the Derkins. Think it was more like 25 reps of plank…..

At this point your Q was numb from the D and D with jelly legs so we headed back to home base and  did more Gorilla Humpers and Monkey Humpers with a lap after each set-thought we did 3 sets of something total but cannot remember. I wanted to end things there but Outhouse kept me honest with the clock and we did 10 burpees to finish the workout. We need a name for when the Q ends the workout early but tries to pass it off as a full workout-any ideas?

Namorama, Countorama, BOM

remember prayers for Dr. Feelgood and his office staff-hope to see you out here soon when things settle down.

Pleasure to lead this am, thanks for posting and keeping me honest with the clock-Whoopee

Grinders for Breakfast?

6 PAX gathered in the gloom for Martha’s special pre-work day breakfast that included some mist and grinders. (Wasn’t really that cool as anticipated).

Disclaimer was invoked before a quick warm-up that included:

SSH X 20 (In cadence)

LBC’s X 20 (In cadence)

Imperial Walkers X 20 (In cadence)

Pledge

The Thang

Mosey/Run/Skip (whatever you like) to the center of the baseball fields at Martha’s House for some Wolfpack Grinding.  Set of exercises was followed by running one pie piece loop around one of the baseball fields and back to the center:

Prayer Squats X 10 (In cadence)

Run loop then 25 merkins (plank until all PAX finish)

Run loop then 30 mountain climbers (plank until all PAX finish)

Run loop then 25 merkins (plank until all PAX finish)

Run loop then 30 mountain climbers (plank until all PAX finish)

Recover briefly (Q needed a few moments)

Next up was some Wolfpack Step Up to 4:  Partner up; while one partner exercises the other runs the length of one spoke (paved walkway in between baseball fields) and back to center where exercises are being performed for a cumulative total:

100 Merkins

150 Freddy Mercury’s

200 Mountain Climbers

250 Flutter Kicks

As usual, this looked better on paper, however, the Q chose his partner wisely.  Thanks D-Fib.

Mosey to covered picnic area for some dip-o-rama:

3 sets of dips X 15 (In Cadence) – This burned just a little.

Time came to mosey/run/skip back to the former Brewster’s mothership:

Bandit and Monk finished it off by leadinig some final ab work:

Dying Cockroach X 20

LBC’s X 20 (I think??)

Name-O-Rama followed by a few quick announcements:  Some Crowder’s Mtn event this Saturday? (PAX were not sure of details).  Monk detailed some Christmas events coming up at Belmont Abbey. (My apologies Monk for not having better details).  Monk also looking for a vest that was left at The Storm on Tuesday morning, I thought someone picked it up.

Q with a short prayer before dismissal.

As always I was inspired and motivated by the group this morning.  My days always go better when I am out there working early with F3 Gastonia.  I was honored for the opportunity to lead and look forward to the next one.  Keep moving forward.  Thanks.

Aye!!

Preblast – MARTHAPALOOZA

This Saturday, Nov. 7, all F3 pax and their 2.0s (kids) are welcome to MarthaPalooza for 2ndF (fellowship) and workout fun with the kids. Bring the kids so they can find out what their dad’s do with those other silly guys every morning. We have reserved shelter #1 by the volleyball court at Martha Rivers park. Starting at 2:30, we have several Qs at various stations for the kids and dads. There will even be a special kickball game. After our workout fun, we are grilling hot dogs, sharing some food, and enjoying time with our kids and each other.

Hot dogs and fixings will be provided. Just ask that you BYOB and bring a side dish to share if you can.

All regions welcome.

M’s invited too.

Kids not required.

Back to School

Weather forecast was calling for 59 degrees and 30% chance of rain.  Reality is your body temp probably hit 100 degrees and chance of pain was closer to 100% (if you did it right).

Mosey to the drive thru at Park Sterling Bank.

Warm up…

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • Don Quixote x 10 IC
  • CH Squats x 10 IC
  • Merkins x 10 IC
  • Goofballs x 20 IC

Pledge of Allegiance.

Mosey to Robinson Elementary School (1/2 mile).

Partner Up for Dora 1,2,3 up and down length of breezeway.  Start at mid point so 1/2 of the teams can go North/South, others go South/North (should be about 1/2 mile total)…

  • 100 Merkins
  • 200 LBC
  • 300 Squats

Next exercise is Elevens between islands in parking lot.  Today’s special…

  • Burpees (modify to burps as needed)
  • Merkins

Reverse Mosey via Riverwood Parkway back to Brewsters

COT, Name-O-Rama (oops, missed that part), BOM.

It was an honor and privilege to lead this group.  Iron Sharpens Irons.

Aye!

Drive Thru

YHC picked up the Q for Martha’s House yesterday for Stroganoff (get well soon brother).   This was going to be a similar workout to last Martha’s House with lots of running.  But at 5:30 am the PAX were about to mosey to YHC’s house and get the Q out of his fart sack. But wisely they decided to get the show on the road. It was raining pretty steady but at least it wasn’t 33 degrees.  In fact it was fairly comfortable in the upper 50s this morning.

So 4 pax mosey to shelter at the bank drive through and begin…

  • 10 BOYO
  • Run 1 lap (this was out to Neal Hawkins, left down the sidewalk, left at the next street, left into the bank parking lot and back to the shelter of the drive thru)
  • 20 Merkins IC
  • Run 1 lap

Ok… about this time the QIC (YHC) finally posts and 4 pax becomes 5 pax.  And we continue with what became a people’s choice workout.  After a quick 20-some SSH so the Q could warm up, it went something sort of like this…

  • 50 LBC IC
  • Run 1 lap (with wall step ups half way through)
  • 10 BOYO
  • Run 1 lap

Under the drive thru, there are 4 lanes divided by cement curb about 3 feet wide.  Outhouse led us in 4 sets of 25 SSH IC / 20 merkins IC accross each of the lanes.

  • Run 1 lap
  • Defib led us in a series of wall sits while each person ran 1 lap after each other.  We finished off with a set of 15 Donkey Kicks.
  • T-Square led us in 20 Dying Cockroaches IC
  • Run 1 lap
  • Wheel of Merkin (10 merkins of balance on curb each 90 degrees)
  • Run 1 lap

It was about here we stopped for the Pledge.

  • Back under the cover Dr. Feelgood led us in 2 sets of Bear Crawls (it was something like 5 steps forward, 4 back, 4 forward, 3 back, 3 forward, 2 back, 2 forward, 1 back, 1 forward) plus 10 Merkins IC.
  • Next we complete 4 sets of 20 Goofball’s / 10 LBC IC across the lanes.
  • Run 1 lap

Then for something really strange… Dr. Feelgood persuaded YHC to partner up to demonstrate some type of Indian arm wrestling, butt mashing, flip flop thingy.  After the demo the rest of the PAX just skipped that one.  You really had to be here for that.

I think we did some Freddie Mercuries in their somewhere and I probably forgot a few others.

Moleskin – Not my best today.  After oversleeping and getting to the workout late, I really felt as sharp as a sack of wet mice today.  But I will keep pushing the rock.  Thanks to the crew that posted here, this turned out to be a great workout.

Stroganoff – no charge for this one.

Bandit

The Next Exercise Is… The One Mile Run

Just starting to get used to the chili mornings here in Gastonia.  But the cold weather has not kept the brave from posting.  Against their better judgement, 6 PAX posted at #MarthasHouse.  Hats off if you got ’em.  We start with the Pledge.

Here is how it went…

First we mosey from Brewsters to Martha Rivers parking lot for quick warm up…

  • SSH IC x20
  • Merkins IC x20
  • MC IC x20
  • LBC IC x20

And the next exercise is….the one mile run.  Linus-clockwise.  Better keep up with Q since he’s the only one with headlight.  Back side of the track was completely void of any light.  One anonymous PAX (sounds like Tree Square) verbally noted “I should have stayed home today”.  But reality is that #HIM don’t fartsack – that’s what the other 99% did.  So we run the outer loop around Martha Rivers park which is 1 mile.  We regroup right where we started for some light ab work…

  • LBC IC x20
  • Dying Cockroach IC x20
  • XYs – IC x20 (need to practice that – very awkward)
  • Homer & Marge on Q’s count.

And the next exercise is… wait, are you ready for this…  wait for it…. Yep!  The reverse one mile run. Running the track clockwise was just a dark as Linus-clockwise. Regroup at the starting spot.

Next we partner up for 11s.  Merkins and Bomb Jacks across the parking lot.

Finally we mosey back to Brewsters with 3 minutes to spare for 3 MOM, peoples choice.

Wrap up with Name-O-Rama, COT and BOM.  Keeping T-Square in prayers (job interview Friday and for his mother in law).

As always…. an honor and pleasure to lead you guys!

Bandit

Core Luxation

Here’s the back blast from this morning, sort of…Whoopee gets to author this since Dr. Feelgood has not been granted a password as of right now. Whoopee’s original plan was to alter this and insert his own special “humor”, however the creative juices just are not flowing so you get the true version from Feelgood-don’t think you will be so lucky next time Dr. Feelgood-need to get a password from Bandit-you have been warned……

WU:

SSH X 25 IC, Mogul Run Calf Burn X 25 IC, Merkins X 15 IC, 8 Count Body Builders X 10ish (we repeated 9 several times to throw the Pax off), Bonnie Squats to the tune of “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean…” IC sort of-everyone needs singing lessons.

Indian Run with 5 Merkin delay for the last Indian around the parking lot.

COP: Merkins X 12 IC, Peter Parkers X 15 IC, CDD X 12 IC, Floyd Mayweathers X 15 IC.

Mosey to playground with Hallelujah (hands in the air, wave ’em like you just don’t care…)

At the swings, partner up and P1 does knees to chest in plank with feet in swing X 20 OYO while P2 holds plank, T-Square took the lead a called some spontaneous alternating arms and legs in the air….do I smell a Q coming soon from T-Square????

Next, lay on ground and see who can get the most wood chips on their body? Side plank tricep extensions in a descending ladder with alternating arms (5,4,3,2,5 reps each arm).

LBC X 20

Mosey to picnic tables: 2 sets of alternating 10 jump ups/10 derkins IC, 20 LBC IC, 2 sets of alternating 10 jump ups/10 derkins IC.

Mosey to start with alternating regular, reverse, and sideways runs.

Ring of Fire-Al Gore hold while other ran around old Brewster’s building (oldest to youngest)

Final Core: Flutter kicks, heels to heaven, plank fries, LBCs

COT:countarama, namorama, BOM, Prayers lifted for PAX, family members, and community, and in gratitude for many blessings.

Moleskin: A beautiful cool early fall morning met a sleepy bunch ready to make the day’s downpainment.

Q failed his country and the PAX by planning to do the pledge after WU but forgot-forgiveness humbly requested.

Pax worked hard and bodily sounds replaced some of the other hot air usually heard at Martha’s House by others like Stroganoff, Monk, Bandit, Dolph, Roscoe, Brownstreak, Squeeker…Anyone seen Wink?

Thought singing was a bit pitchy…next time Bonnie will be sung until it is right.

Looked hard for Mrs. Long during workout…must be family fun day.

While the running was less than some previous workouts, there should be some sore cores tomorrow.

Always a pleasure and honor to sweat in the gloom with you guys! Aye!

Indians and Donkeys

We had 8 PAX post in the old Brewster’s parking lot to get stronger and fight Sad Clown Syndrome.  We also welcome back Defib (or is it V-fib???) on his return from Haiti mission trip where some great work was done (not sure his trip was long enough to quality for a Kotter, but welcome back, regardless)

After a brief disclaimer, and showing respect for our stars and stripes with the Pledge of Allegiance, we began…

First a quick jog from Brewsters to the Martha Rivers parking lot.  PAX figured we would just skip the warmup today.  As we entered the park, it looked like F3 got up much earlier than the park employees this morning.  Gate was still locked up and the line of cars was starting.  We don’t stop.  We move forward!

Now we can start the warmup.

  • 30 SSH IC
  • 25 IW IC
  • 20 Merkins IC
  • 20 Squats IC
  • 20 MC IC
  • 20 LBC IC

Indian run #1 – one lap around parking lot.  More cars lining up at the gate to watch F3!

Next up are 11s (Merkins and Heels to Heaven) accross the parking lot.

Indian run #2 – one lap around parking lot.  Second time around we could tell the stretch on the way back was up hill.  More cars lining up at the gate!

Next we partner up for 55s (Squats and DCC).  Start with one rep each, sprinting across parking lot between exercises.  Working all the way up to 10 reps.

Next we mosey down to the restrooms, but indeed – no rest.  Instead we get Donkey Kicks in on the wall of shame!

  • 10 Donkey Kicks IC
  • 10 Donkey Kicks IC
  • 10 Donkey Kicks IC
  • BTTW – 60 Seconds
  • 10 Donkey Kicks IC
  • 10 Derkins OYO

Next we mosey back up the parking lot to get all Whoopee’s crap he left there. #SomeoneBringHimBackpack.  As we grab Whoopee’s loot we see they are finally opening the gate. As we mosey past them back to Brewsters, everyone say’s good morning to the line of cars coming in, including Mrs. Long (Stroganoff’s mom still checking up on him).

As always, its an honor to lead this group!  Until next time… Aye!

– Bandit

Jailbreak at Martha’s House

After several days of never ending rain,  8 PAX met in the soggy gloom.  Since the weather was nice, it was time for the PAX to make a break for it.

WU: was done a bit different than usual, some said it didn’t even resemble a warm up..

Each exercise 25 seconds OYO with 5 second break

  • SSH
  • Burpees
  • Plank Jacks
  • High Knees
  • Butt Kicks
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Power Jumps

Recover and say The Pledge Of Allegiance

Time to run around the yard, Indian Run to concession stand and then back out to parking lot.

THE THANG:

  • PAX circled up for 10 PCMBs (Prisoner Cell Merkin Burpee)

Next PAX lined up in between traffic islands for 11s

  • 1 x Star Jack > bear crawl to adjacent island > 10 x Prisoner Get ups
  • Mosey back to start >  2 x Star Jack > bear crawl > 9 x Prisoner get ups > mosey
  • this was a real #crowdpleaser but looking at the time audible was called around set 8
Since its important to flee the big house with a partner, PAX paired up for Squerkins
  • Partner A planked while Partner B held his legs
  • Partner A did a merkin and then Partner B did a squat…5 counts each then switch x 2
Mosey over to building

  • 1 minute of BTTW
  • 1 minute of Al Gore
Mosey back to parking lot, PAX circled up on their 6s
  • 25 each side Russian twist
  • 50 Dying Cockroaches
  • 50 LBFC-  Kinda like rubbing your head and patting your stomach at the same time
Indian Run back to ice cream with an unexpected halt for 10 merkins IC single count
Cool down was an abbreviated version of warm up

COT

  • Announcements: Hope Builders 5k, Mud Run, CLT Runway 5k
  • Prayer Requests
Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to Q, I’ll be back! You men are awesome!!
