Prayers for the PAX and families of F3 Gastonia

Prayer to take us out

I always find it fascinating how God gives you the right message from his word when you need it. As I checked my phone after the workout, the daily verse notification had hit my phone.

Psalms 121:1-2
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

Seemed ironic after a hill-themed workout that this verse with a message to lift our eyes to the hills would appear on my phone. It made be think of all the struggle, pain, hurt, and strife in our world right now, but through it all, God offers help, hope, and love. It’s up to us as a group of men to be leaders and spread that same love to our families, our friends, and our community. I think back to the sights we saw on the Mortimer of God’s creation. The same God that made those hills and mountains will provide a way for us to get through the hills and mountains in our own life. Just know that we are never alone, and I’m thankful to have you men as friends that lift me up and hold me accountable.

Finally back at Gashouse

COT

Good is the enemy of great

It was the best of times.  Six men chose the bootcamp option with YHC and the pain lab had eleven with Bedpan delivering the pain.

Bedpan warmed us up with some SSH, Grass pickers, Moroccan nightclubs (until Tube showed up and joined us).  DoubleStuff showed up after that.  Remember gentlemen, F3 starts at 0700 #candor

The bootcampers welcomed one of the early PAX, Brown Streak back to the house!  Great to see him posting this morning.  The bootcampers worked on perfect form.  Here is what happened:

Mosey to FPC.  Form a line and lunge walk perfectly across the parking lot.  The emphasis was good form and not speed.  Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Next up was one leg straight leg deadlifts, I call them the hummingbird feeder.  5 reps each leg IC.

Next we moseyed to the PAD for some socially distanced partner work.  YHC demonstrated the fundamentals of a merkin.  P1 does 20 in perfect form while P2 criticizes the form.  Freight should have been there.  I brought some music a la Pain Lab and we started with Working Man by Rush.  The form was good.  Three rounds of this with 20, 15, then 10-run to the bottom of the hill and back for perfect burpees.  10 each. run down and back.

Perfect WW1’s x 20 each.  Run

Perfect form squats x25 then run

Mosey to picnic table for perfect dips.  We didn’t do a lot, but we did a lot of time under tension with slow perfect form.

Next we moseyed to the bottom of the stairs.  Partner up.  P1 does perfect merkins to failure at which point P2 begins.  Flip flop until one PAX can’t do at least 5 and then run to the top of the steps for 25 LBC’s.  YHC and Doodles were first to run as the fatigue was wearing us out.  Lots of sweat on the pavement.

Next we hit the steps for 50 perfect form calf raises with a squeeze at the top, followed by another round of hummingbird feeders then 25 more calf raises duck footed and then pigeon toed.  Then another round of hummingbirds and back to start and ended at 0759 so 3 perfect burpees and that was that.

We only ran a little over a mile but the emphasis was all on form.  There was accountability and everyone got all the reps with good form even if they had to break up the reps.

Small group workouts are awesome as each partner was carrying on conversations during and after the workout.

Kudos to JJ for running to the workout from home.  Breaker said he spotted a running Whoopee while he was driving in for some EC.  Always good to see Brownstreak pushing the rock.  I called the number of reps for each exercise in advance so as not to trigger Brownstreak.

I was told when I was young that anything worth doing is worth doing well.  I am not a stickler for form because we usually just #youversusyou but I thought it would be good to emphasize form and not reps today.  In life you can do it right or do it over.  Always strive to get better.  Aye!

Announcements:  Gastonia East Rotary Monday to see Stroganoff and Sargento talk about F3.  Hunchback is the Q and reservations required.

PT test at Gashouse

29 PAX gathered in less than ideal weather for a PT test at the Gashouse. The disclaimer was the short form, we knocked out the pledge and then headed up to the track at Grier for the main event. It went like this:

400 meter run

100 Merkins, LBC’s, Squats and SSH’s (complete all reps of each exercise before moving to next)

400 meter run

75 reps of each exercise

400 meter run

50 reps of each exercise

400 meter run

25 reps of each exercise

1600 meter run

This workout looks pretty simple, but it’s a grind. The PAX really pushed this morning and it was awesome to see such a good crowd! I had a ruck option for those who don’t consider themselves runners, but everyone chose the run option and it was evident that those present were there to work hard and get better. Pizza Man and Sister Act led the way and both jumped right back in when they were finished to push and encourage others. The mumble chatter was low, but the words of encouragement were not. This is one of the things that makes F3 great, everyone wants to see those around them succeed and is willing to help them whenever and wherever they can.

If if you didn’t make it to the workout today, consider doing this OYO. Send me your time (or how much you complete in 40 min) and I’ll keep a record for the next time. I’m hoping to repeat this later in the fall when the weather might be a little better.

It’s truly a pleasure to be a part of such a solid group of HIM’s and I appreciate the opportunity to lead.

NMM:

Good push by the pax today. It was actually quite nice, a little less humid than it has been. Which is good! Really want to recognize Roscoe and Stone Cold right  now who are in the eye of the storm with their respective police force jobs. One question we need to ask these guys again and again is “How can we help?”. Let’s keep them in mind.

Also we are thinking a lot of folks out there that are either near or gone beyond a breaking point with all this social isolation. It can only go so far and we need to help folks who essentially collapsing because of it. And work toward a solution for this whole mess we find ourselves in. Which is where we will find opportunity. It’s these brothers, we just got to work on it to find it and make things happen.

Tesla

It’s Independence Day……

7:00, ready to roll.  I’ve got my daughter’s speaker, fumbly fingers, have to listen to the advertisement first, time to roll.  Volume or for some reason something was not working.  You know you may have a Q fail on your hands when Whoopee becomes your new IT guy.  He got us going.  Quick disclaimer, as the burgeoning sound of Neil Diamond’s America starts I commence the reading of The Declaration of Independence.  Dang, somehow the preamble of the song got away from me and we got right into the beat.  Had to drop my reading and call out the first exercise…..Side Saddle Hop as you like, oyo!!!

Part way in, Merkins IC – 10.

Squats 10 IC

Neil Diamond is still singing ‘America’, let’s do up/downs on Today!!!  There’s a whole lot more of those than you think and Rudolph figured that out as he was trying to keep one on one inline with the music.

Cranked up the Spotify July 4th extra special celabratory music on and off we go to front parking lot of FPC.

First song……Martina McBride, Independence Day (I know, it’s not exactly about 4th of July, but I do love this song).  Side straddle hops entire song, 3 burpees on Independence Day.  On Let Freedom Ring stanza we take a lap, sort of rinse and repeat to the next lines.

Done, lap around FPC.

Second song……Toby Keith, Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.  Zombie Walk during entire song, 5 burpees on Red, White and Blue.  Don’t laugh, it worked.  Well, laugh if you like cause the whole time was kind of funny.  But it actually did work.

Lap around FPC, stopped short at area that looked good.  The distance was too long for the next song, but it sort of worked.

Third song…….Born in the USA, Bruce Springsteen.  Run clockwise around large island, every stanza of Born in the USA you make a 1/4 turn.  Hereto, Run, Karaoke, NUR, Karaoke, etc. etc. etc.  It worked.

Well, at this point it felt like 7:53 but it was closer to about 7:23.  Went to the steps.

Eleven’s……Bottom, CDD’s.  Top, CDD’s.

Back up to the front, chewed off about 5 minutes doing a hold and burn while somebody runs.

Back to Schiele, bombed Painlab and Rudolph looked like he was working the group over well.

We wrapped up with the Military Medley.  In order, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force, Marines amrap each until complete.

Army-Merkins

Navy-American Hammers

Coast Guard-Flutters

Air Force-Starjacks (I clearly am unable to do these)

Marines-Burpees

Prayers/Concerns:  our Nation, men in F3 rise up and be leaders in your communities.

I had a great time this morning, think we all did.  It was an honor to lead.

Birthday Beatdown
