Grab a Partner!

9 PAX showed up at The Storm and were introduced to the partner with whom they would spend most of the upcoming 45 min. As far as I know, there were no complaints about the assigned partners.

A Kotter, “Spork”, made an appearance after about a 2-year hiatus. (He’s obviously been staying fit since his last F3 post, though, including a 4-month-long hike of the entire Appalachian Trail. He recently got back from that hike, and still kept up with the PAX just fine.)

Some PAX got in some EC ahead of time, which included some running and also NUOS training in prep for the August 6th-7th GrowRuck.

No FNGs, brief disclaimer.

Proverbs 11:14 – “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisors.”

This was the QSource verse for the study this week and the topic was Shared Leadership. It tells us that if we rely solely on our own opinions then we are sure to fail, however, if we surround ourselves with like minded Christians who provide support and guidance we are sure to succeed. This is true in all aspects of life and I like to think of it as the good kind of peer pressure. Rely on the experience and knowledge of others to help you through whatever you’re going through. Life is not meant to be lived alone.

Great to be back at Mt. Hollywood and thanks to Freon for allowing me to Q. I’ve been trying to get some more run training in for upcoming relays and haven’t been doing a lot of bootcamps on Mondays, but this is a great AO with a solid core group of PAX. Keep pushing the rock!

I’m Broke

God knows your heart!

Three of us out to get a few miles in this morning and to talk about the word of God.

I had the opportunity to share my experience I had at camp a few weeks ago and let me tell you it was great!

Our verse was 1 Samuel 16:7

But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

The lord sees our heart and wether it’s pure or not, wether it is for him or against him, wether it is full of love or full of sin. No matter what man sees or says the lord knows the true YOU! What I experienced at camp was an eye opener as a youth pastor, father and as a leader. These kids have been misled in many ways spiritually because of us leaders walking around covering up bondage. The kids need to see us in our weakness and in our trials of life, they need to see our reaction to the things that battle us daily. When we are weak he is strong! They need to see Christ working in you.

I talked to my youth group all week about different things but I was able to speak to the guys about being a man. Society has put a label on what a man is suppose to look like and these guys are using that label in forming their lives. Some of them think they’re not worthy or they’re not good enough at life so they’re not good enough for the lord which is FALSE! Some of them think they have to degrade women, drink alcohol and cuss to be more of a man which is also FALSE! What we need to do is love the lord with all our heart all of our soul and all of our minds! Nothing will makes us more of a man than loving Jesus Christ. Being a Godly man in every situation.

I told them that is a hard thing to do in the flesh but through Jesus Christ our savior we can have a pure heart, we can love deeply, we can allow him to move when we are weak!I told them Doing good isn’t good enough that doesn’t make you a Christian and it will not get you in to heaven. The only way is through acceptance of the blood of Jesus Christ!  Accepting Christ as our savior will start it all and it’ll be hard but it will be worth it all!

I ended up having two come to know Christ as their savior that week and I baptized them last week at service and it was awesome! No matter what the world says and no matter the label they put on you, know this… God knows your heart and He will always put you where you need to be as long as you believe in Him and stay available for his works!!

Where is your heart? God knows..

Shared Leadership

YHC showed a little before 0600 to get in a few extra miles and Dr. Seuss and Purple Haze decided to join in. Gumby also showed early but since there were no other DBC members riding today, chose to go home for a quick wardrobe change into his running gear. We ran back through the start at 0630 and a total of 8 PAX headed out to log some miles.

Seuss and Pizza Man did their usual “easy” mid 7’s pace, Haze and SA decided to hang back with YHC while Def and Gumby enjoyed a little fellowship on their run. As with most Sundays, Wirenut appeared from the gloom just in time for the COT. Strong work men.

We followed up the run with a QSource discussion on Shared Leadership. If you haven’t been to the discussions at Crossroads or Coconut Horse on Sundays you’re missing out. Come out and join one of these groups next week, I promise you will not regret it.

early ruck

(Un) Fortunately Bubba Sparks, Gavel, and Rebar took me up on the old “starting at 0600 but I’ll show up earlier if anyone wants” plan.  They suggested 0530 so I couldn’t fartsack and leave them hanging. We took off towards Martha’s then circled back to make sure no one showed up at 0600. We saw JJ a couple times getting an early run in before church. Buckeye and Sargento were also getting a few extra miles in. As my kids would say, Buckeye’s fit was bussin.  In other words, his outfit was sharp. He claimed to be “colorblind” but that was clearly not the issue. Sargento was sporting a cup of Joe when he arrived.  I don’t think I get runners. Between the pre-run coffee and “bussin fits” I just don’t get it. Maybe that is the point though…..Sometimes I think I could be a runner or that I am a “runner” but then stuff like this happens and it makes me reconsider. At least for now, I am a rucker. Initially this was out of necessity due to injuries, but I really think these are my people. Between the NUOS workouts and Coconut Horse and other rucking AOs , it just feels right………where was I? Back to the BB…..We had 4 ruckers, a bunch of runners, did a variety of routes, then ended with COT.

Q Source starts next week with Cowboy Ethics. Today we had a great discussion that lasted longer than expected. We have quoted Jocko so many times over the last few years. I found a list of “Powerful Jocko Willink Quotes to Motivate Leaders.” We ran through a few of these and pretty much everyone chimed in with something. If you search the above quote on the interwebs and take a look.

Thanks for another great morning-Whoopee

BTW…..has anyone seen Gastone?
