Midoryiama 3/4/21

12 regular PAX and one FNG showed up for a great time at Midoriyama on Thursday 3/4/21.  Here is how it went.

Warm Up:

Seal Jacks IC x 20

Hill Billy Walkers IC x 20

Mountain Man Poopers IC x 10

Mosey to the entrance of the parking lot and do 5 Eight Count Body Builders.

Mosey to the soccer fields stopping at each light pole on the right side of the road to do 5 Diamond Merkins.

I gave the PAX the choice of routine A or B.  The PAX choose B so we headed over to the hill by the dog park.  Hearing the mumble chatter along the way and knowing many of us have a long run Saturday, I decided to call an audible and stay on the back soccer field instead of the hill.

B. Suicide Ladder

A shuttle run with an exercise set after each return to the starting line. After each full shuttle run the exercise count goes up by five reps.  We ran from the sideline to the near edge of the center circle and back, to the far edge of the center circle and back.  Finally, to the other side line and back.

Flutter Kicks (count 1 leg) x 5, 10, 15

Merkins x 5, 10

I had a lot more planned, but this was beginning to take up too much time.  At this point we moved on to Flintstone 11’s which are 11’s with more than one exercise at each end.

A. Flintstone 11’s

Step Ups and Big Boy Sit Ups at one end & Jump Squats and Dying Cock Roaches at the other.

Triple Nickle

I didn’t plan this, so I asked three PAX for an exercise.  Wet Nutz choose Bear Crawl, Montross choose Burpees and Little Sweet choose Merkins.  We used these three exercises to do Triple Nickle at the end of the soccer field.

Almost time.  Mosey back to the flag doing 10 monkey Humpers at each light pole on the left side of the road.

Good work tonight gentlemen.

“I’m right here, Dirt” – The Sandlot 3/1/21

When Flintstone rolls up to Pelicans on Neal Hawkins Road, he usually parks around back where it is very dark.  Today was no different.  Flintstone ran EC with Watts Up, EZ Rider and I so I knew he was back there changing his shoes and shirt before the boot camp work out.  There was a light reflecting off his car and from my position in the front parking, without my glasses it looked like he was still back there.  I knew it was getting close to 5:30 so I hollered out “Come on Flintstone, It’s time.”  I heard a voice from behind me say, “I’m right here, Dirt.”  The PAX who were present had a good laugh at that.  I found out long ago the we need to be able to laugh at ourselves and this was another opportunity for me to do so.  Unfortunately, I find myself in this position all too often.  I hope you can laugh at yourself as well.

No FNG’s so the usual disclaimer.  Don’t hurt yourself, make it harder if you want or easier if you want.

Suicide Ladder

A shuttle run with an exercise set after each return to the starting line. After each full shuttle run the exercise count goes up by five reps.

1st Round

Flutter Kicks (count 1 leg) x 5, 10, 15 (90 total reps)

Merkins x 5, 10, 15 (90 total reps)

Tiger Squats x 5, 10, 15 (90 total reps) These kind of turned into regular squats after a while.

2nd Round

Warm Up

Seal Jacks IC x 25

Imperial Walkers IC x 20

Ski Jack IC x 15

Mosey to the corner of Park Drive and Ferrell Ave, while getting 50 Squats, 22 Merkins (at The American Legion Post) and 50 Flutter Kicks along the way.

Welcome to the Half Pipe.   Do 5 Jump Squats at one end, 5 Burpees in the dip (both ways) and 5 Diamond Merkins at the other end.  Rinse and repeat x3.  The last round we increased the count to 10 on the Squats and Diamond Merkins.

Mosey back to the tennis courts while getting in 50 flutter Kicks along the way.  Here is where I earned the name MUD.   As you know, it rained overnight and we even had some light rain while at the half pipe.  There was plenty of standing water on the tennis courts for us to soak up while doing Suicide LBC’s and Hello Dolly’s.  We did a total of 80 Hello Dolly’s and 160 LBC’s while running back and forth between the tennis courts.  There was plenty of mumble chatter, as we all got soaked and cold.  Everyone was glad that time was running out as I wanted to get in some hand release Merkins for the last round but I felt that we didn’t have ample time to complete the round.  Maybe we’ll get them in the next time gentlemen.  We did 50 more Squats while we headed back to the awning by the school to finish out with reverse grip (fingers down) inclined Merkins x 20, Dips x 20 and LBC’s for the final 30 seconds.

5 Burpees and 10 Merkins – run a lap

12/21/20 – The Sandlot – Early Checkout

We had an FNG for the Christmas edition of The Sandlot this morning.  Welcome Stephen Navatta who is now known as Folgers.  He moved here 7 years ago from New Jersey and his Jersey accent was prevalent.  He has an F3 friend there who EH’d him to come out this morning.  He mentioned F3 to his doctor who has been a PAX since before F3 was in Gastonia.  Folgers mentioned his name but nobody recognized it.  Oh well onto the workout……..

Long disclaimer for the FNG and a review of the F3 Principles

Warm Up

Seal Jacks IC to the tune of Rudolf The Red Nosed Reindeer since there is a seal in the original claymation production.  Thanks to Stroganoff for carrying the lyrics as I was getting tired and couldn’t remember them towards the end.  I guess it’s been awhile since I sang it with my kids, after all, my youngest is 25 yrs old.

Toy Solders IC x 15 for “The Nutcraker” ballet.

Russian Solders IC x 15 for Pyotr Tchaikovsky who composed “The Nutcracker”.  EC to Stroganoff for knowing who composed it.

Mosey to Bethlehem and stop at the first inn.  Performed 2 burpees as we asked if there was room at the inn.  The innkeeper wasn’t impressed so he told us to move on.

Four burpees at the second inn with the same results.

Six burpees at the third inn with the same results.

Eight burpees at the fourth inn with the same results.

Finally, 10 burpees at the fifth inn and the inn keeper said we could stay in his barn.  Here we found ourselves at the concession building in between the baseball fields.  YHC called sets of animal related exercises to represent all of the animals in the stable.  We did sets of:

Bear crawls, calf raises, stork squats (one legged squats), alligator merkins, dying cockroaches, donkey kicks and monkey humpers.

Sometime during our second set, our FNG spewed.  When asked if everything was OK, he replied that it was just his morning coffee, thus his F3 name, “Folgers”.  Stinky Bird showed his true colors by accompanying Folgers back to the start.  Thanks for taking good care of him, Stinky.

Finally it’s time to “push” for child birth.  We assumed a leaning stance against a solid object and pushed for approximately a minute.  Flap Jack for another minute.

Since the shepherds were abiding the flocks when the Savior was born, Flintstone volunteered to be our shepherd.  The rest of the flock scattered while he gathered us up by “tagging” each PAX.  Once tagged, we dropped and did 100 LBC’s.  Thanks for volunteering Flintstone.  Hasn’t anyone told you never to volunteer?

We then assumed the role of the Wise Men.  I know it’s a stretch for this lot but, as Ross Perot used to say, “Stick with me here”.   We finished out the time by moseying through the countryside searching for the Christ child.  We had to pay tolls at borders, to kings and to thieves along the way for passage.  The toll at each stop was 10 merkins, 20 squats and 30 flutterkicks.  Once the child was located we were so excited that we sprinted from the park entrance back to the flag.

Thanks for participating today gentlemen.

LBC’s

Run a lap around the track and say good morning to The Sentinel.  The Sentinel is a gentleman who shows up each Wednesday to walk and run the track.  We have invited him to join us but he keeps doing his own thing.  Have to respect a guy who will get up at 4:30 AM and workout regularly.

Meet back at the start for Ring of Fire.  Here we circled up and held the LBC position while one Pax did one LBC.  When he was finished the next Pax did one LBC and so on and so forth around the circle.  We increased each round buy one LBC until we each did 8 LBC’s.

Run a lap.

I gave the PAX the choice to rinse and repeat with Flutter Kicks or Eskimo Merkins.  They choose Flutter Kicks and we completed 6 rounds.

Run a lap and Sargento led us to the steps at the back of the school.  We didn’t have enough room for this large of a crowd to do Calf Raises, so they will have to wait.  Instead, We Bear Crawled around the ramp from the school to the parking lot.

Here, we ran Rugby Sprints for approx. 50 yds.  Each PAX took turns calling an exercise (AMRAP) and when he said “GO”, we sprinted to the second light and back, then slow mosey back to the light.  Some of the exercises were Goof Balls, Diamond Merkins, Bobby Hurleys, Peter Parkers, Half Plank and Mountain Climbers.  Sorry, I can’t remember them all.  We had a pretty good crowd today.

Mosey to the side of the school to the two sets of stairs for Calf Raises x 100 OYO.

Mosey to the start.

Almost time so we did burpees until 6:15.

Thanks for participating today men.

Eskimo Merkins counted up to 8.  These are a series of micro Merkins where you touch your nose to the ground.  It was asked if I had sanitized the pavement in front of the pavilion and I assured the PAX that I was up all night doing just that.  (Note the BB disclaimer above)

Round 1 – Pax one does 10 merkins while Pax two holds the plank position, flap jack alternating every count of 10.

Round 2 – Pax one does 20 squats while Pax two holds the Al Gore position, flap jack alternating every count of 20.

Round 3 – Pax one does 30 LBC’s while Pax two holds their feet off the ground at 6”, flap jack alternating every count of 30.  About this time Stinky Bird declares that “Lazy Dora isn’t so lazy.”

Mosey to the steps in front of the City Council Bldg for Calf Raises IC.  Only two sets of 20 so no dirty calves over the weekend.

Play frogger across hwy 74 to the wall at St. Stephens AME Zion Church where we did 10 dips, 10 Bulgarian squats (each leg) and 10 derkins, then ran to second street and back.  Rinse and repeat x 15, 20, 15 and 10.

Mosey to the corner of Franklin and Marietta St. where I gave the PAX a choice of 10 burpees or 50 flutter kicks.  To no one’s surprise we all choose flutter kicks.   Unbeknownst to the PAX, I wanted to call for the 10 Burpees at the end but we ran out of time.  We were able to get some monkey humpers in while we waited for the light to change so we could cross Franklin safely.

Mosey back to the start where we finished out the time with 3 burpees.

Thanks for allowing me to lead this morning gentlemen.
