Chilly Dog

It was cold and dry this morning in the gloom with plenty of stars out.  According to google home it said 26 degrees.  Big change from 2 days ago’s mid 70’s and raining.  It was nice to see the Bulldog most regulars out.  I’m going to call out the Bulldog Kotters on the next backblast (LN, VD, B, H, C for hints to some.  There are more).  You know who you are.  The break is over.  Time to get after it.

We worked out, had some fun, believe it or not got a sweat going, had some fellowship, made some jokes, had some meaningful conversation, and had an excellent start to the day.

Changes to The Bulldog coming soon will announce next Tuesday.

Have an awesome day guys.  Happy New Year.

Folsom 01/04

13 men joined YHC for a cold Tuesday morning at Folsom.   We even had an FNG  – good job Ball Joint and Gear Wrench.   The conversation, as always, was good before we got started.   It must have been a little too good because Sarlaac had to tell me it was 05:30.   Time to clock in.

Brief warmup and then head to the tennis court.   It was during this trip Ball Joint informed me we had a new guy.   That’s what happens when you rarely post.   He was chatting with Gear Wrench, and I assumed he wasn’t new.    Q fail.   (Insert lesson about the importance of a disclaimer here).

The thang consisted of People’s choice AMRAP, Dora and some Mary.

COT
Announcement: Ball Joint’s festival of celebration will be this Saturday.   This will be a monumental event, and if you’re reading this, you need to be there.
Prayer requests: Big Pappy and his family, Sister Act and his family, Sparky’s 2.1’s coach, Gumby, Montross, Ball Joint’s friend.

Light Confusion@Storm

Three was the number for EC at 0500. One came later for their own EC. By 0530, the number was seven. Nutria rounded it up to eight during warmup.   None were FNGs or even Kotters, so a basic disclaimer followed by The Pledge of Allegiance.

Appetizer:

5 Merkins OYO

15 LBC OYO

Main Event:

50 LBC & 50 Flutters.

Repeat at every light pole until you get to stop sign.   YHC apparently did not succinctly state which ones to be used, so we did most of them.

Once all had arrived, let’s work our way back with 50 Squats and 50 Calf Raises.

Omaha’s toward the end for time.

Mosey to school for a little partner Dirty Hookups (50) and Donkey Kicks.  More reps and exercises were planned.

Need to plan better…

Watts Up Powering Down

Puddles, Rivers, and Blocks at MtHW

Freon (SiteQ) and YHC arrived early in the rainy Gloom, and parked next to each other.  The parking lot was otherwise empty.  We rolled down our windows to discuss whether anyone else would show today.

Well, on this first Monday of 2022, the rain could not deter the core group of stalwarts from the Mt Hollywood AO. They woke up, jumped out of their fartsacks, and made their way out into the Gloom, just like they do every single Monday.

These HIMs were so focused and ready to work, that YHC doesn’t think they even realized that the rain was going sideways, and that a hurricane was about to kick up.

YHC promised on Slack the night before, that we would workout out under a canopy, and that there would be treats for the PAX. YHC came through on those promises.

We immediately Mosey’d across the street to the canopies at Ida Rankin Elem.  On the way, we made sure that we stepped in EVERY SINGLE deep puddle and raging river we could find.

With our socks and shoes fully rinsed, the PAX arrived at Ida Rankin to find the “treats” that YHC had promised the night before – cinderblocks.

WarmUp
-SSH
-Air Presses
-Squats

The THANG

“CinderDora”
Partner1 – Do 25 Curls
Partner2 – Do LBCs until Partner1 finishes his 25 reps
Then, both partners, together, do
High-Knees to the other end of the canopy (~30yds)
Buttkickers on the way back
Then, continue exercise reps in sets of 25, as a Dora-pair until you reach the target number.
We did 200 cinderblock curls.

CinderDora was set to continue for about 8 additional exercises, but YHC called Omaha.

YHC Omaha’d to the workout found below, b/c YHC felt that the HIMs from Mt. HW weren’t getting their money’s worth from the CinderDora, in the  the particular way I had planned it. (I really like the CinderDora idea, but YHC plans to adjust it a little for another Q, so it works better for the PAX.

Here’s what we did after the Omaha was called:

25 Overhead presses w/ Cinderblock (IC)
Run 25yd, do 2 burpees, Run back
25 Kettlebell Swings w/ Cinderblock (IC)
Run 25yd, do 2 burpees, Run back

FINISHING STRONG

Ball Joint reached out and said he had an open Q for 12/30 and ask if I wanted it. It was a no brainer, of course I wanted it. As I thought of what kind of work we would do I knew merkins would fit in perfectly and with it being the end of the year and the last workout at Folsom for the year all I could think of was finishing strong. We’ve all had our ups and downs throughout the year but so what! It’s life and life happens to everyone. So if you find yourself in the ups of or the down don’t think you’re special, you’re not! What is special is have brothers you know will be there in the gloom either looking to pick someone up (maybe you maybe me) or looking to (you or maybe me) to pick them up. At different times we’re both of these things. One thing I’ve observed is that if you’re not getting in the gloom it’s hard to be picked up or a picker upper! Anyway… enough of that… let’s get to what you came to see. THE WORK! One other thing, I knew it would need to be a good one as I had heard through the grape vine that a couple of elites may be there and they were! Check the Pax list

What a great year it has been! Some of y’all are wondering how I could say that. Let me tell ya…  life is not about circumstances, it’s all about who you turn to in those circumstances. And if you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior then you have had a rough year and a rough life for that matter. So with the most serious of tones  “Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.””
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:14-15‬ ‭ESV‬

Thanks for pushing me men, can’t wait till next year!

Wichita out and on to the next one!

Disruption at the Coconut Horse

Well Defib’s half marathon training plan is in week two and he wrote whoever showed a prescription for seven miles.  The Gloom was real but not as bad as it could have been and it was actually nice out considering the rain that kept falling.  Short Sale, JJ, Defib, and YHC ran a little more than two EC miles and returned to the Horse AO but no one else was there by 0530 so we headed out for the Coconut route.

Afterwards, JJ left for church and Flintstone showed up for Q Source.  YHC led week one of Q Source on “Disruption”.  Basically leaders create movement to advantage in others and make things happen.  Sort of like Defib’s prescription.  He even exhorted me to sign up for the Biloxi half.  It just may happen.

Puddle Jumpin

Wet morning but these men did not let that stop them.
It was raining sideways, up, down, and all around. one time while walking I just stepped in a puddle so deep there may have been a fish or two in it.

The Bible verse this morning was from Joshua 1:6-9
I found this reading plan in the Bible App. Strong and courageous Leadership Lessons from the Book of Joshua.

Joshua had some Big shoes to fill. Moses had just passed away and he was now in charge. Imagine yourself having to follow Moses!
The man who met God on the mountain and was put in charge of telling his people about the 10 Commandments. But God told Joshua to not be afraid (thats Aint Skeered for the Dallas Pax) and follow the commandments. When moving into a new leadership position it can be scary. Even if you have followed the leader before you, when it becomes your time sometimes, we suddenly forget all we have learned. Stay strong be courageous and follow the plan. Always remember God Has your Back. Start this new year off on the right foot. Do not be afraid to ask God for the best Direction, he will never point you the wrong way.

Prayer Request: Each other, Big Pappy and his family, Sister Act and his family,

The Bed Pan is Full!
