Groundhog Day (or 26 Squats)

It was a nice cool gloomy morning. Weather keeps getting better! Not ready for the cold gear yet, but I’m starting to smell it!

For those guys that posted Monday and again today (Squeeker, Spiderman, EZ Rider), I’m sure you were thinking Groundhog Day! Admittedly, there was only a small variation in today’s routine. But when you have achieved perfection…. #JustSaying. For the record, Hush Puppy gave advanced notice he was not posting today since the Midoriyama studs beat him down severely yesterday afternoon. Since YHC had advanced notice, that officially counts as Smart Sack. Here is how it went down downtown…

Warm Up
– SSH x 26 (see note below)
– Squat x 20
– Toy Solider x 15
– LBC x 15
– Don Quixote x 10
– Mericans x 10
– Repeat0 x1 (reverse order)

Since Whoopee asked, the maximum number of reps for any exercise in a warm up is officially 26. Don Quixote’s were performed in honor of Tool Time who was somewhere nursing is calf. Get well soon brother! In honor of the men of the Fighting Yank, we also threw in 2 sets of 5 BOYO as the train rolled by. Thanks to Whoopee for the inspiration there.

After the “warm up”, we mosied around the corner to the wall for some impromptu shoulder/back work.
– Donkey kick x7
– Wall slappers x7
– We did this at least 2x

After a mosey in and through the parking deck, the PAX was served up a fine Four Corners (around the parking lot) with a selection of
– Dying Cockroaches x20 OYO
– LBC x20 OYO
– American Hammer x20 OYO
– Mountain Climbers x20 OYO
– After each round, we knocked down 10 Monkey Humpers for fun.
– Repeato x2

Next we mosied to the Place De ‘Art for some Dips and Step Ups… although we just skipped the step up part. At this point YHC was getting a bit fuzzy. Probably left over head cheese from Monday. As I instructed “the next exercise is the squat”, I was reminded that what I was doing was actually called a Dip. So from know on, this shall now be known as the Arm Squat.

– Arm Squats/Dips (whatever) x20, x15, x10

Next was the last mosey back to the to the pavilion where we circled up around the Rotary Wheel for some people’s choice Mary. Everyone had their favorites. We especially loved Spiderman reprise on Stroganoff’s classic flutter kicks (for the record, YHC had to carry my abs home in a plastic bucket). #NotNice

Finally we wrapped up with…. OH CRAP! Forgot the Namorama. Sorry guys, you all get your money back next week. So we finished up with Announcerama and BOM.

Prayer requests for Roscoe and his CMPD brothers who are doing the hard work of maintaining order in our chaotic community. Roscoe also asked that we keep his friend Basil in our prayers. He is in critical condition. We also keep Floppy Disk’s and his M in our prayers as she deals with medical issues. EZ Rider’s friend who is battling colon cancer. Also for Bandit’s mom who is dealing with pulmonary problems and undergoing tests. Also a request from Squirt (sorry bother, I missed the details on this so send me a note and I will update this).

Later today Stroganoff reminded us why F3 has made a difference for so many of us, and himself especially. It was one of those days that he (perhaps many others) would have preferred to snuggle in their fart sacks making their way to the AO in the 0530 gloom. While he was not feeling it, he went anyway and the group pushed him. #ISI #Accountability #I2 I hear you Stroganoff!!! Aye!

Great work by everyone!!

Anniversary Special, Ups and Downs!

This workout is a tribute to the M for 29 years of marriage. As I thought about all we have been through, the “Ups” and “Downs”, I decided it would be a chance to help the younger Pax as they journey with their M’s. I decided we would tour Midoriyama and at each stop I would announce a year and whether that year was an “Up” or a “Down” year due to events that happened in our family. I am not going to list all of the family events I mentioned as most are personal and kind of difficult for a softie like me to talk about. F3 has the Rings of Concentrica with the M as the most important relationship we have with anyone, so here goes.

Modified Whoopee Warm Up

SSH IC x 5, let’s mosey!

THE THANG

We would mosey at intervals of approximately a tenth of a mile around the outside of the soccer and softball fields and then exercise, you guessed it, 29 reps, some single count and some In Cadence. We wound up with 1.5 miles and well over 400 reps of various exercises.

Hill behind horseshoes, 1987, “Got married”, Decline Merkins, single count x 29.

Hill beside Field #4, 1990, “Son born”, Sea Turtles, single count x 29.

Field #4 left side, 1993, Mexican Squats, single count x 29.

Road side before soccer field, 1994, CDD’s single count x 29.

Hill near first soccer field, 1996, “Daughter born”, Hillbillies single count x 29.

Hill at the end of soccer parking lot, 1997, Freddie Mercury’s single count x 29.

Hill near dog park, 1999, Clock Merkins on a hill, 8 at 12 o’clock, 7 at 3, 7 at 6, 7 at 9 = 29. Mumble chatter.

Soccer parking lot near rest rooms, 2000, Rocky Balboas IC x 29, special guest counted by Huckleberry, who also said In Cadence was a bad idea, but we were ahead of schedule.

Outside right side of Field #3, 2002, Flutter Kicks IC x 29, Guest counted by Slaw.

Outside left side of Field #2 on a hill, 2003, Incline Merkins on a hill near Field 2, IC x 29, ouch! Guest counted by Ash Pond.

Beside Field #1 in the shade, 2007, LBC’s IC x 29

Parking lot for Field #1, 2009, Monkey Humpers IC x 29, bad idea. Mumble chatter. I was worried since Tool Time was on the IR we wouldn’t have sufficient mumble chatter, but Freight, Huckleberry and that chatterbox Blart kept it lively!

Steps near Field #1, 2010, “Son graduated high school” Calf Raises at steps, 2 per step, 3 at the top – 29.

Playground, 2013, Pullups 29 OYO, or as I did them, 7,7,5,5,5.

Back to rhymes with “Nerd” shack, 2014, “Daughter graduated high school and began college” Hip Slappers IC x 10, only stopped due to being out of time!

Every marriage is a journey and no one knows where the years will take you. Some years you are up and some you are down, but having the M there with you through it all helps you keep pushing. I encouraged all to make their relationship with the M a priority. Pleasure to lead! Happy 29th Anniversary, Mrs. Leppard, the best person I know! I was dared to mention in the backblast, someone said “Keep that pimp hand strong!” and someone may or may not have a “strained taint”, not sure what those mean!

Pledge

Prayer Requests, Floppy Disk’s M, Sparky’s family, Tool Time’s calf, Ringo, Roscoe.

Six Halves

It was a cool 88 degrees at Midoryama, and it was a welcomed change. No FNG’s present so short disclaimer.

Quick warm up: CDD’s 20 or 15ish IC. Hillbillies 18-20. I think we did 20 SSH’s (it’s really hard to count at Midoryama) MNC’s 20.

Being that Romans 12 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible I attempted to work in all 21 verses throughout the workout. Using the scripture to give time to catch our breathe.

The Thang: Mosey to the Turd Shack for 20 Flutter kicks IC. 15 Hipslappers IC. 15 Mike Tysons. Mosey to soccer field for some coupon work. We carried coupons to the first corner 5 Block Burpeesthen up the side line to midfield holding coupons overhead 10 Block Merkins the Lunge to next corner 20 Tricep Extensions. Blocks out front then 30 American Hammers (mumble chatter). Lunge to midfield for 40 Shoulder Press. Again blocks overhead to corner 50 Curls. Reading through Romans alone the way (suggestions for longer passages from PAX) To the bleachers with coupons Dips 20 IC  Curls 21’s

Mosey to other Turd Shack for: 20 Flutter Kicks  20 V’ups and Homer n Marge. Reading scripture was becoming difficult due to sweat in the eyes. The PAX was hanging in. Then, Ascending Testicles and HandStands for 30 seconds.  Mosey to playground for some pull-ups, chin-ups, Merkins and LBC’s

Back to start with some MARY and about 15-20 Burpees, 22 Merkins, other ab stuff.

COT: Prayer requests, recap of scripture, second prayer lead by Hushpuppy for Floppy’s wife.  Love you guys. What an honor to lead

Rom: 12:1-2….present your bodies a living sacrifice holy, acceptable to God which is your reasonable service. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

so…who is the q?

11 dudes took to the gloom at folsom. low humidity, starting to feel better outside.  all are stretching as medicine woman notes that allen tate was doing some intense stretching, insinuating we may be about to run. allen tate looks up and asks…who is the q?  after being informed he was, and the look of complete surprise… allen tate quickly (about 15 seconds) puts together a plan.  it’s 0530; let’s roll.

warmups: ssh, gravel pickers, allen tates and merkins all x 15IC. pledge

The House Always Wins

YHC arrived a little early today to make sure the table was set for the day’s workout. After a quick walk around in the gloom, the men of the Yank began to arrive. Qui$h and Tool Time made a quick fly-by finishing up some EC and one of the two FNGs ran to the AO too! Great start!

After some extended chit chat in YHC called for the PAX to circle up to get it going. A full disclaimer was given to start the two FNGs off right along with some encouraging words and we were off.

Warm Up

Abe Vigoda x5 IC with a transition into Don Quixote x5IC due to slowness!

SSH x15 IC?

Morrocan Night Club x30 IC

Dying Cockroaches x10 IC

Merkin x10 IC

The Thang

A short mosey to the pavilion revealed a little surprise for the PAX, a deck of cards! Could it be THE DECK OF DEATH?!? Yes!!! Immediate mumble chatter followed. Excellentt!

Spades = Burpees

Clubs = Squats

Hearts = LBCs

Diamonds = Dips

When a certain suit is drawn, the PAX will execute the corresponding number of reps for that exercise. The cards were picked one by one and the PAX performed like the champions they are, FNGs included. This routine is not joke! The only time the group missed a beat was when YHC Omaha’d to cut the last set of burpees in half. In retrospect, the PAX was strong, YHC had actually softened up from a month of BRR training that has left him in less than ideal F3 shape!

Once this ordeal was complete, the PAX was led to the field behind the middle school for some new action, but low and behold they were beaten to the spot by a middle aged guy practicing his disc golf form. So that our workout could maintain our good rep in the community, YHC decided to play nice and not take over the field but instead move on to a patch of grass on the side of the school.

When everyone had arrived, a leg of Seal Crawls was announced. This is a crappy derivation of Bear crawls because you don’t use your legs. One length of this had everyone tapping out and agreeing that we shouldn’t try this one for a long time. 20 goof balls was announced followed by a return trip of actual bear crawls.

Mosey back down to the amphitheater for the Triple Nickel. 5 mountain climbers at the bottom, run up the hill for 5 WWI sit-ups at the top. Repeato x5.

This too was really tough but the PAX powered through just in time for a short round of ab work.

Peter Parkers x10 IC

Flutterkicks x30IC

Protractor x?

Nolan Ryans x10 IC

Awesome work men. Thanks go to Mayor for pulling some strings to make sure we avoided the trains today. Lord knows we did enough burpees anyway.

It was a pleasure leading today, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Announcements, CSAUP, Prayer requests, Namorama.

Welcome FNGs Boudin and Gilligan. We look forward to pushing the rock together again soon. AYE!!!

Painnado

I started out the morning with some EC with Outhouse and Whoppee. We ran to Goatisland and back for about 2.5 mile warmup before the other pax arrived. As everyone rolled in I was noticing a lot of new faces. Some newly posted guys from week ago to first time posters from Saturday. We did have one FNG among us. As the time drew near I welcomed all to the Brownstreak show and pre answered the question with ” no, it’s not what you think!” Welcomed Josh the FNG and explained he could remain Josh for the next 45 mins but after that he would be transformed and renamed…. A rebirthing if you will. Disclaimer was spoken and here’s what Brown threw down……..

Triple Nickel:
5 Burpees at top
5 Sqauts at bottom
Repeato x5

The pax toughed thru this one. Great work men. We moseyed to the flag for the pledge.

Time!!!

Moleskin:

Great work by everyone today. Everyone stayed together and encouraged the FNG. I explained that f3 is for YOU! It’s were you vs you. It’s not about being better than the next guy. Are there friendly rivals? Yes, but it’s all in fun. We are not here to discourage or break a man. So I want to thank everyone for the encouraging words and for sticking with the FNG! #HIM

Anouncement:

Thanks guys for allowing me to lead and I look forward to growing stronger with each of you. Brownstreak out!!!

Cetirizine Difficiency

After dragging around some kind of head cheese for 5 days and being down range for some R&R, it was time to get back to my regularly scheduled program. I was looking forward to a push from my Gashouse gloom brothers. Of course, I didn’t really consider the impact of 5-day head cheese on leading my workout (especially calling cadence). Perhaps some better planning could have helped me avoid the certirizine deficiency. Or not!

Anyway… here is what happened.

Derecho – So We Run

It was gloomy. It was early. It’s Monday. Would anyone show up? Why did I tell Defib I would do this today? Well actually, I still owe a debt to Defib for the terrific massage……cigarette please.

As I turned toward The Storm, I saw multiple cars. I guess I will be Q’ing a workout this morning. Qwuizchea was the only one that received my memo about orange shirts…thank you. Nice to see another soccer Dad on the Pitch this morning (Boudin). Let’s go.

Quick disclaimer but no FNG’s, just 7 strong men (plus YHC) ready to start the week off right.

Warm-Up (In-Cadence)

SSH X 10
Imperial Walkers X 10

Let’s go.

We ran. Goat Island. Downtown Cramerton. Goat Island. Back to The Storm.

Mary (In-Cadence)

Done. Around 4 miles. Pink Floyd: “This is twice as far as I have ever ran.” That was great to hear and made my time worthwhile this morning. This is why we do this, to get more of us working to be better leaders in better shape. Thanks for the words.

Anouncements: CSAUP on November 11-12; Sign up now.

Prayer Requests. Name-O-Rama.

Thanks for the push men. I was sore from the weekend workout and really didn’t want to get out there today. Without F3, I would have fartsacked for sure with nothing to show for my morning.

Thanks for the honor to lead today.

Until the next one. Aye!

Forrest Gump Returns

I looked back at a few old workouts of mine and found one I last did almost exactly a year ago. I called it the ‘Forrest Gump’ and decided it was time to bring it back. But first, kudos to Monk for a great 3rd F just before the main event on Saturday. It was a good reflection on the BRR and tying it into the spirituality of the event.

The gloom was relatively cooler than it has been so a large crowd gathered for a breakfast helping of beef and noodles. We did have an FNG arrive (due to reading a recent article in the Gaston Gazette; so that’s proof that someone does read the local newspaper) so we went through the disclaimer before getting on with it. Near the end of the 3rd F, I believe I saw Blart jogging into the parking lot looking like he was finishing some extra credit work. Nice work Blart.

Warm-Up (In-Cadence)

SSH X 15
LBC’s X 20
Imperial Walkers X 15
Freddy Mercury’s X 20
