The Petomane Thruway

it was a warm morning especially compared to the past few days.
With inflation going up on everything I had to go back to the car and get a bag of dimes so we could all cross at Heather Lock.

Prayer request:

Mike MacAffey battling covid, Bed Pan’s Mom and Step Dad while they travel.

Rice n Beans 1/18

Freight, Dfib, Dr Seuss, Virus, Virus M, Sprinkler, Sprinkler M, Breaker Breaker and Tiger along with organizers of Gastonia Rice n Beans gathered to serve.

The number served was down compared to first two weeks.  We learned that a warming shelter was open.  Organizers still assessing the best spot to serve, may change in the future, will let you know.

The food left over was taken to Salvation Army.  Donations of clothing and blankets and stored and will be brought out again next week.

Thanks to all who served and donated items.  Please consider this service opportunity in the future.

TRB 1/19/22

Four plus the Q showed for mid-week work at TRB.  Started with the mission of F3, took two trys but no worry.  Nantan joined when he finally decided he was ready, rest of us already broke a sweat.

SSH, IW, 5 burpees and some stretching.  Mosey to the neighborhood and down the hill.  Q calls for dirty 11.  11 hand release merkins up the hill for 11 jump squats.  Repeat 11x.  At the end of 11, 50 LBC oyo.

Mosey back to the school.  Head to benches for step ups, dips and derkins.  10 15 20 with a run to end of parking lot after each set.  A few mins remain so we got in some Mary, big boys, flutters and hello dolly. Back to flag.

YHC mentioned that first Q source topic is disruption.  Part of leading with love is to disrupt the status quo.  How are you doing on your new year goals?  Are you falling back into habits that need to be disrupted. Do you need to disrupt anything at your home or work?  Everyday is a  chance to get better.

Announcements:  Lunch at Wild wing 12:00 1/19, Flat Rock Retreat in February – room for 16 more, Rice n Beans on Tuesday evenings.

Snowmegedon @ Crossroads

Man the Sky-Q really was really laying  down the white stuff as I slipped and slid my way into the Ingles parking lot.  A quick look and I saw a lone Duke Energy truck ready for some work!  Just two of us showed and only one with running attire so we decided to share a good fellowship walk rather than breaking a leg or ankle in the snow.  The wind cut pretty hard as we headed towards town but when we finally made the return loop it was there that we truly got to enjoy the peaceful quietness of the snow storm… ok it was me & Wirenut so probably not a lot of quietness 🙂  We finished our walk and decided to head back to the house rather than mosey inside for a hot cup of joe.  Nothing wrong with a recovery day and some 2nd F every now and then!

The STORM 1-18-22

Warm up:

We started with 4 PAX for Seal Jacks IC.  Bubba Sparxx came rolling in to give 5 Pax for Imperial Walkers, however I was doing Hillbilly Walkers,  so do as I do not as I say.  All of a sudden we are back down to 4 PAX as Bubba Sparxx heads back to his car for some reason.  Back up to 5 PAX for 10 Merkins OYO.

Super slow Mosey to the school as there is still a bit of ice in the parking lot.  It’s all clear at the school.  Today’s routine, Rack and Stack, is brought to you by Sister Act as he did this at The Storm a couple of years ago. Here we will go get an exercise and bring them back to the side entrance to stack them.  Here are the exercises:

5 Burpees

10 Jump Squats

15 Inch Worm Merkins

20 Michael Phelps

25 Calf Raises

30 Overhead Claps

35 Freddie Mercury’s

Head back to the flag for the pledge, anouncements, prayer requests and COT.

Finished with 5 PAX.

Thanks for coming out today gentlemen.

Q Fail @ The Yank 1-15-22

My daughter and I worked the night before the workout to connect my phone to her Bluetooth speaker and to create a Spotify Playlist for the workout on Saturday.  My budget Iphone SE (a POS btw) had trouble connecting but we eventually got it.  Everything worked well Friday night however, I could not get it connected Saturday morning.  It must be a generational thing.  I guess I should have had one of the young whipper snappers work on connecting it for me.  I can program my own VCR though.

I hinted that there would be Bear Crawling via Slack Friday night and that there would be music involved.  More on that latter.

Seven o’clock rolled around and we headed to The Bunker to warm up with:

Seal Jacks IC

Hill Billy Walkers IC

Eskimo Merkins up to 5

The Boot Camp guys went with me and The Bunker guys stayed with Boudin.

We Moseyed to the steps for a few Calf Raises while I tried to connect the Bluetooth speaker.  This is where my Q fail occurred.  I should have tried to connect it between EC and 7:00 am but didn’t think I would have this much trouble with it.

Mosey up to the shelter at the top of the hill in Stowe Park where we did:

10 Bulgarian Squats each leg

15 Inclined Merkins

20 Michael Phelps IC

We then ran a lap around the lower part of the park.

Rinse and Repeat x 5.

Head to the Track behind the old middle school.  Here is where I needed music for the Bear Crawl.  Yes, you guessed it (I think Doodle got it first) …..…… Bearway to Heaven.  Bear Crawl 10 yards, do 10 Burpees then Sprint back to the start.  Bear Crawl 20 yards, do 8 Burpees, then Sprint back to the start.  Bear Crawl 30 yards, do 6 Burpees, then Sprint back to the start.  Bear Crawl 40 yards, do 4 Burpees then Sprint back to the start.  Bear Crawl 50 yards, do 2 Burpees, then Sprint back to the start.  This routine is done to Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”.  The goal is to finish before the music stops.

Mosey to the back of the school for Wall Sits.  One minute intervals x 3.

Mosey back to the shelter for rounds of LBC’s, Diamond Merkins and one other exercise that I don’t recall.  I was going “off the cuff” to fill time at this point.

Mosey in a line following me as we ran through the park weaving around trees and other obstacles ending up at the statue.

Time

Welcome to F3, Jason Shepard.  Good job today.  I hope to see you next week!

The last long one

4  PAX posted at Old School to log the last long run of half marathon training. I know what your thinking. Does this count as a post? Of course it does. There were 4 of us(where 2 or 3 gather), we were there for the start of EC, we put in the work, and we were there for the COT. What else do you want? I would have thought Dr Seuss would have given us credit in his BB but only gave us honorable mention. Do you disagree? Tough! The group was comprised of 2 former Nantans, a current Nantan, and a former 1st F Q. We are freed to lead :). Anyway it was beautiful morning and the run was pretty good to be so long! Enjoyed it men!

Making Tracks

3 men @ Coconut Horse saw an opportunity to post in the snow and couldn’t pass it up.  Kudos to Defib and Roscoe for a massive 10 mile run.  YHC pulled up and saw two sets of tracks on the sidewalk in front of the Teeter and knew that there were guys out there gettin after it.  YHC got 45 minutes of solo rucking in.

QSource was cancelled for the week.

Announcements:

  • Rice & Beans – Tuesday
  • Sandlot time change – 5:30 PM

Prayer Requests:

  • Roscoe’s Father-in-law and family
  • Huck’s dad

Moleskin:

“No bad weather.  Just poor equipment.”

Defib’s post on Slack is just good stuff.  Weather just adds excitement to the workout.  Y’all know around here it’s not everyday we get to make tracks in the snow.  Gotta take the opportunities when they come.

It was a good day to ruck all by myself.  With the route I picked, I wasn’t near any main roads for any length of time, so it really felt like I was all alone in the world.  No signs of any other tracks, and every step I took was recorded in the snow, like I owned it all.  The sun wasn’t up, but the heavy snow both falling and on the ground created an eerie glow.  It was just a morning to soak in and remember, as new and unique feelings can be hard to come by when all my days have a tendency to feel the same.

At the same time, I wouldn’t want to stay by myself.  I say it often, but the biggest realization I’ve had as an F3 Gastonia PAX is that I need to get out of my own head and be part of the group, because there’s so much to learn and share being around the rest of you.  And really, over the last year+, I’ve found that the less time I spend alone in my own head, the better off I am.  Your support and your example have made things that were impossible on my own seem relatively effortless and natural.

So sure, it was good to get out and make my own tracks today, but I don’t plan on getting used to it.  Grateful to be part of this group.
