Chili No Slaw

5 Pax were not deterred by the rain on Thursday evening. It held off and no one really got wet. Slaw was MIA again and there was a discussion about changing Chili’s name to Chili No Slaw. Below is what we did.

Warmup:

Mosey to the shelter.

The Thang:

We did various upper, core, and lower body exercises via a timer with rest built in between sets. After a full round we ran to the lake and back.

COT:

Announcements-A search party to find Slaw is forming. Stay tuned for more info.

Prayer Request-Life is good. Praise report from Purple haze on his wife.

Pledge

It came down to the sprint

Good crowd at Midoriyama this Tuesday afternoon and much better weather than last week. Started off with a few stretches then took a mosey up to the parking lots at the soccer field to do some work.

Started out with 10 to 1.

10 Dirty Hookups then run to middle island

10 IW Squats then run to opposite sidewalk

10 Big Boys then run back to start

Rinse and repeat down to 1, but take two laps around the parking lots after Round of 6 and Round of 1 are completed.

Next up was 5 minutes of mayhem.

5 PF Merkins, 5 Hammers, 5 Jump Squats, 5 In and Outs then run a lap.

Rinse and repeat until time.

I announced that the winner would receive a prize and it was neck and neck with Defib and Wiki all the way to end with Seuss close behind. Wiki edged out Defib on the sprint finish with Freight providing the play by play and encouragement (maybe discouragement if you’re Defib). Turns out the prize was nothing more than letting the winner and second place finisher pick the exercises for the last part of the workout. Kind of a let down, but it got the desired results.

5 Burpee’s and 5 Dying Cockroaches at each pole going back to the flag.

Finished up with 3 minutes of Mary.

5 started and 6 finished the day at Midoriyama yesterday.  Welcome back Slaw from his visit to the valley. He said he saw SA and it didn’t look good. We got lucky and the storm had just finished up when we got started.  This is how it went.

Warmup:

SSH, Don Q’s, Goofballs

The Thang:

Mosey across the street. 3 man teams(well 1 anyway). 1 man on one end and 2 on the other. 1 man runs to the other end and tags the other man in. Keep doing that back and forth until everyone gets back to where they started. While not running and on the ends you did an exercise. We did this several rounds with several exercises.

Next we headed over to the lake. The water level was up. Crabwalk up the first ramp then run the next. Rinse and repeat to the top. Do the same back down with bearcrawls.

From the bottom of the lake road to the gazebo we did some triple triple. Then we did the same from the gazebo to the bench. I forgot what here name is. Then we did it again from the bench to the gate.

On our way back on the road we stopped at each light pole to do 5 exercises.

Once back we closed with some Mary. Maybe that’s what her name was?

Thanks to all the Pax who showed on a chilly, windy, winter afternoon. No quotes or themes today just running and exercising but maybe next time. If you haven’t been to Midoriyama in a while or ever, come on out and join the fun. There is always a good group, lots of mumblechatter, and usually a tough(ish) workout!

Midoriyama Afloat

I’ll be the first to tell you I was not looking forward to Qing after a day spent hanging out with the family inside because of the rain, rain, rain!  But I told my M when she asked, “that’s why you Q, it holds you accountable”!  The rain kept coming as I drove to Midoriyama but as often happens God decided to give us a break for about 45 minutes!  Seven PAX showed to work off some Christmas day vittles and get better.

The Thang:  A quick (well kind of) warmup of 60 second circle.  Gumby’s counting trickery was soon foiled by Gavel and his keen mastery of numbers!  Next we mosied to the shelter to escape the rain I thought would be present.  A round of what I called Dirty Down & Backs, kind of like Dirty 11s but since the shelter was rather short, I called lunge-walks down 1 burpee then bear-crawls back 2 burpees and so forth until we got to 11 burpees.  Next was something I called Flip-Flops.  1 partner counted LBCs up to 25 while the other counted down 25 squats.  Next it was “Merry Christmas”!  We each grabbed a spot at a picnic table & started doing step-ups until a PAX called “Merry Christmas”, then we switched to merkins until they called Happy New Year”!   Finally, we mosied back to the flag & TIME!

Thang

Mosey to practice field to get to work, starting with four corner escalator, we did 20 merkins at first corner then added 30 squats, mosey to 3rd corner for 40 mountain climbers counting one leg, and finally the last corner we did 50 LBC’s.  This put us in the perfect spot for some 11’s  starting with 10 WW I and run across the short side of the field for Low Slow Squats. The PAX were pushing  hard and cutting through the weinke quickly, Next up was a triple nickel on the hill right behind the  soccer field. Jump squats at the bottom and Spider-Man merkins at the top, counting each leg as one rep. Those were a real crowd pleaser! Next up was Dora so we partnered up and went to work. 100 HR Merkins, 200 Squats and 300 LBC’s. Time was running down so we mosey back to start with Slaw picking up the six and with just a little bit of time left we did flutters till time.

The PAX pushed hard tonight, I appreciate each one of these guys showing up! It was good to see EZ Rider at Midoriyama, it’s been a few minutes since I’ve seen you. Chili continues to get better through hard work, way to push brother! Broke, Slaw, Wiki and Seuss consistently showing up and putting in the work. Happy Trees with another post to add to his total for the year.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead!

1 step forward 2 steps back

8 pax posted to Midoriyama on Thursday night for a little fun and games. YHC listened and learned from last years QvQ challenge. The PAX like games in their workouts. I took a note from Shortsale’s book and we got after it.

Warmup:

Blah blah blah

The Thang:

In the long parking lot starting at one end. The idea was to try and make it to the other end. With a deck of cards we would draw a card and do the reps per the face value with each suit being an exercise. Just like any other time we use cards. Dimaonds=merkins, Hearts=WWI’s, Spades=Squats, and Spades =burpees. After doing the reps we then would bearcrawl that many spaces forward. So for example a 10 of diamonds we would do 10 merkins then bearcrawl 10 spaces forward. Once there we draw another card. Except this time we have to bearcrawl backwards that many spaces. So if the first card was a 10 and the next card is a 6 we would end up being 4 spaces forward of where we started. This really confused the Dr’s and Accountants in the crowd. We did this back and forth slowly inching our way forward in the parking lot. Eventually we switched the backwards movement to suicide sprints. Some believed we’d never get anywhere but we finished about a third of the way through the parking lot so we would have been up against the house if we were betting. All in all this kept us guessing and moving a lot. Which seems to be a problem for some. I guess they confused this with a 2nd F event. If you’re gonna mummblechatter you gotta be able to exercise at the same time!

Midoriyama 12/5/23

It’s December, so that means Christmas is around the corner. To get the guys in the Christmas spirit, YHC led the obligatory 12 days of Christmas workout. It was a beautiful night at Midoriyama. We saw enough deer running amuck that Santa could pull his sleigh through the triad region (Lowell, Ranlo and Smyre) on dry ground with no problem at all.

We performed a quick warmup and moseyed to the parking lot on the other side of the turd shack. Q forgot the pledge, (BIG Q fail) but we got it at the end of the workout. Once we got there, Santa Q had written the 12 days of Christmas on the asphalt for all the PAX to see. We formed a semi circle around the instructions and got to work. It went like this:

  • 1 – 8 Count Bodybuilder
  • 2 – Hand Release Merkins
  • 3 – Reverse Crunches
  • 4 – CDD’s
  • 5 – Burpees
  • 6 – Big Boys
  • 7 – Low Slow Squats
  • 8 – Werkins
  • 9 – Leg Lifts
  • 10 – Mike Tysons (a lot of protests on this one)
  • 11 – LBC’s IC
  • 12 – SSH IC

A certain grinchy PAX complained due to the “jacked up” exercises called and lack of music while performing the workout. YHC doesn’t believe this was a Q fail, just lack of Christmas spirit on behalf of the Grinch.

We had enough time to perform some dirty 11’s. Exercises called were Tiger Squats and Perfect Form Merkins (with a Burpee in the middle).

Back to the flag with just a few seconds remaining, so YHC called time. We got the Pledge in and got the COT.

10 total for my return to Midoriyama. The planters is feeling pretty good but I may go back on IR until spring….I hate the cold!

Warmup:

Some stuff to get warmed up

The Thang:

Grab a block and hit the road. Starting at one of the light poles we did 10 block swings, ran without the block to the next pole, did 10
Freddy Mercury’s counting 1 side, ran back to the block, rifled carried the block up to the next pole, and started again working our way down the street to the end. Once at the end we turned around and started going back doing 5 thrusters and 5 hand release merkins. Those thrusters and rifle carries really started to suck on the way back!

Naked Moleskin:

It felt good to be back. In the past it has driven me crazy anytime I couldn’t post. For some reason this go round not as much. I often pondered if F3 had run it’s course for me. Why wasn’t I missing it as much. To be honest I think after a hard summer of training I just needed a break and some rest. Being back out there I realized how much I had missed it and all the PAX. Stay hard MFer’s!

Midoriyama 11/21/23

A rainy, cold evening at Midoriyama. Of course Slaw has the Q. YHC figured one maybe two PAX would post but we had 5 total. Staying under the picnic shelter, we performed the “moist millenium”. YHC knew we would stay moving the whole time and get a good total body workout.

10 rounds of 10 exercises. 10 reps per exercise.

  • Merkins
  • Squats
  • Big Boys
  • Derkins
  • Calf Raises
  • Leg Lifts
  • CDD’s
  • LBC’s (IC)
  • Dips
  • Mountain Climbers (IC)

We got through 9 rounds when time was called. After the COT, the 1t F Q asked “anyone else want to finish that last round?”.  All PAX  returned to the picnic shelter and finished the last round for 1000 reps. Outstanding work, men!
