Thanks for the opportunity to lead today.  I encourage all pax to sign up to Q if you haven’t in a while or if it’s your first time.  It is an awesome experience.  It also encourages me to post as much as I can to support my fellow brothers.  Thanks men.

Sister Act

Baker’s Dozen

A baker’s dozen showed at Folsom for another Pizza Man delivery.  During the workout we covered over 2.5 miles and did Route 66, 11’s, killed our arms on the picnic tables, more 11’s, and finally 4 corners.  Great work by all that posted this morning.  As always, thanks for the opportunity to lead and it’s always a pleasure teaching leadership to the younger PAX that posted.

Always remember Philippians 4:13…I can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens me.

Until next time….Pizza Man is OOOUUUUTTTTTT!!

Vern goes to Hollywood

5 PAX posted for a bootcamp and one more came to log some miles on an unusually warm December morning. No FNG’s so after a short disclaimer, pledge and a little warming up we headed to the front of the school for The Thang.

Most of you who have been posting for a while have likely done The Vern at some point. To my knowledge, it hasn’t been done yet at Mt. Hollywood so let’s break the ice. Fortunately for me, there’s no place around town with a good place to do pull-ups so lets change that up to more of a crowd pleaser – Hip Slappers!

It went like this:

10 Hip Slappers

Run a lap around the parking lot (about 250 yards)

20 Dips

Run a lap

25 Merkins

Run a lap

30 LBC’s

Run a lap

Repeat a total of 5 times

Still had a little time for Mary. Corkscrews, Big Boys, Burpee’s, etc.

Orangeman with some upcoming decisions to make, pray for courage and guidance. Each other, PAX battling injuries.

Moleskin – Give More

Read Luke 6:38. You don’t need to be wealthy to possess a giving heart. Don’t get caught up in giving presents, rather give of yourself. A helping hand, a listening ear and a kind word are all examples of how we can give to others without spending any money. God promises us that when we give he will return those blessings back to us multiplied.

Let’s See Some New Sites

The Yank was gracious enough to lend its facility to Girls on the Run 5k event, so YHC decided to show the Pax some new areas of Belmont and stay out of the girls way.    Here’s how it went:

I heard Stroganoff Moan

I heard Stroganoff Moan. Yup, sure did. It was during Painlab. He was doing tire pulls. Glorious day, but literally that’s all I remember. Lost weinke notes and I’m super late writing this BackBlast!

Tire pull and drag (Kettlebells inside tire for added weight) – Timer

Standing Rope forearm (7.5Lbs.)

Some other Kettlebell exercises

Maybe Slam Ball was there?

Time. Circle up with Bootcampers.

4 Bulldog Q’s

Enjoyed Q’ng Bulldog for the 4 Tuesdays in November. I kept my promise to the PAX in hopes to see the new AO grow, and boy did it! Here’s how #4 went down:

Kotter in our presence, welcome back Outhouse!!

The Thang:

PAINOPOLY – YHC’s favorite and easiest weinke in F3 history. Except this time i made a slight change. Instead of my usual Chance and Community Chest cards, YHC decided to break out the Beatdown deck of death.

PAX were horrible at rolling the dice. We combined for 85 Burpees and someone drew the Ace of Spades from the deck, 100 Flutter Kicks.

Thank you guys for another unforgettable workout. Thank you to all that have filled in December open Q spots. Looking forward to it.

AYE!

HIPAA

Start every day by dishing out some Pain.

I always like it when a Q actually has something to say during the course of a workout.  Diet, mental health, perseverance, staying strong, whatever.  It’s just cool when you can learn something or get motivated.  HIPAA needed a Q per his announcement at Bulldog sessions (go to this AO guys, perfect location), and I told him the usual:  if no one steps up, I got Painlab.  But only if no one steps up.  i think Q’ing Painlab or Bulldog may seem strange if you don’t have 500 pounds worth of weights, ropes, racks, etc., but that’s not the case.  Anyone can do 1000 merkins and call it a workout, leadership is what counts.

Anyways, it just so happens that I knew my neighbor would come after several years off, and Oompa Loompa said he had an FNG.  Sounds like a good chance to actually put some words behind the weights.  I decided to make the theme “a new day”, as we all take a new step every day, whether we’re 3+ years in F3, or this is our first day.  Gotta keep grinding, because the grind makes us badass.   Along with that, let’s delve into the 3 F’s that make F3.

Timeframe warmed us up, it was an already perfectly warm morning, the large pack of guys who were there for Painlab followed me over to the picnic tables.  I gave disclaimer about Painlab – MODIFY, ZERO to LOW IMPACT, DO NOT QUIT.  Forgot about the “don’t sue me part”, I need to get better at that before I lose my house.  I told the guys that we just did the warmup, and F3 in the morning is a great warm-up to everyday life.  Not much will get to you after a workout with the boys in the morning.

I. PAINSTATIONS – I had everyone partner up, partner 1 does an equipment type exercise, partner 2 does a non-equipment exercise.  The stations:

-Battle ropes – Squats; Slamball – Merkins; Curls – Burpees; Swings – Lunges; Around the World – LBC; Thrusters – CDD’s.  Or something like that.  When we rotate I asked for 3 claps from the group.  They got it quick, and when I asked why 3 claps, at least one person said “I can’t count higher”.  Facepalm….

We did that x 2 cycles.  I explained we just got stronger, and fulfilled one part of the FITNESS requirement.  With muscle work done, let’s move on to agility:

II.   PAIN-RING – time to work on our skills in the boxing ring.  I love this stuff, and if you do it right, you’ll be gassed fast.  I gave brief intro on how/what punches really are, after that it’s truly up to the guys to make themselves work.  I gave specific instructions for 2 rounds (I was getting pretty gassed barking instructions), so for Round 3 I told them to use all the moves (jap, straight, hook, uppercut, shuffle, bob and weave) to go after it for 3 minutes.  Everyone did good work.  I attempted to box with Pockets, but upon approaching him, I thought I might throw up on him.  Let’s not do that….

I told them that in the Creed movies, Rocky tells him “take it one punch at a time, one minute at a time, one round at a time”.  I like that.  Just like every new day, take each and every moment as it comes and make the most of it.  You can’t eat an elephant in one bite. Agility done, let’s go to stamina:

III.  CIRCLE OF PAIN – this one’s easy.  I set a timer for 5 minutes, hold plank.  At no time may more than half of the pax be on their knees taking a break.  Hold plank.  5 minutes.  Some of us did some merkins, some did Nolan Ryans.  Lots of, well, pitiful mumble chatter.  I think this was a crown pleaser.  Before we started, I told the guys to look around the circle at the other guys, and asked them to say they wouldn’t let each other down.  Instead of saying “you” they all said “I won’t let you down”.  Facepalm again.  But the mission was accomplished.   The point here again was you can take a break, but you may not quit.  There was a word on Fellowship here, everyone in the circle had each others back.  So we covered Fitness and Fellowship, how about….

IV. DORA, THE QUEEN OF PAIN – Faith time.  Hard to make an exercise expressing Faith, but how about the fact that you have faith that your partner will bust their ass for you, helping share a load of work?  Works for me.  Pair back up with partners, easy work that focused on muscle groups we had not hit yet:

300 calf raises on curb

200 overhead claps

100 dips

one works, the other runs around that island (if you can run).  I tried to fake-collide with a few of the guys, actually did collide with Short Sale, my bad yo.  And up yours, Clavin, for not giving me some skin in passing, rather pulling a Fonz on me.  Brutal.  But what do you expect from someone with pink tights?

Here comes Linus and the crew, and Timeframe had told me before they left that he had a new core exercise.  I think it was called the Variable Leg Extension.  This sucks.  It’s like a V-Up only your legs continually work from straight to an L, while doing crunches.  Don’t do it.   When we circled up I noticed that we had our leader, Nantan, a Kotter, an FNG, Site Q’s, those we RESPECT (50+), and those we HATE (young ‘uns).  That was pretty dang dope.  Gashouse is strong.

MOLESKIN – motivation can be hard to come by, so any work at F3 should be a good dose of it.  I’m pretty easily persuaded/activated/motivated by my elements (song, movie, book, people) so it’s easy to get into a groove, for me, at F3.  When you’re surrounded by guys who know that iron sharpens iron, I get pretty jacked up.  I hope that same sensation was conducted, purposefully, today.  See you around the schoolyard, obliged and humbled to be a part of F3 Gastonia.  One last thing…I told the guys whether it was your first day, or your 400th F3 workout, each new day is the same – you’re not getting it back.  12/1/2018 is gone, and you had just ONE shot at it.  Proud that you all started it right.

Smells like Teen Spirit

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-man

This was a couple of weeks back at one of the final sitings of  our beloved web slinger. The gloves were thrown down Turtleman nominated me , I considered but worried about the daunting task of such a monumental site with also such BIG shoes to fill … could I do it ? I had never even Q’ d there before . I put together a Weinke and have had it ready for some time …. just lacked an opening to use. All too often I arrive downtown just in time …. the last time Spidey ran the gauntlet on us I arrived just behind him to find Gastone already rallying the troops … then the baton was passed over to Bedpan! I believe he will do very well …. All that prep work aside …. on to the beat down !

Pledge        Disclaimer.      Warm up as follows

low slow squats ( mentioning to straighten backs ) x10

Seal Jacks x10

Plank Jack x10

finally the   Piece de resistance….

Howler monkeys ( I believe that is what they are called …. I thought I came up with a new activity only to see that last week Hipaa has found this , dusted it off and inserted into one of his routines !)

i had the pax to tighten ranks in the circle ( tension and mumbles began) turn 1/4 to left …. Monkey Humpers!!! That is the Howler Monkey …. it was at this time that we became aware that in order to “seem” to be looking elsewhere that Turtle man noticed and asked if Breaker Breaker has a family member that bought a rotary brick as one carried Stinett family name .

x10 ……. no scratch that !!! There was so much mumble chatter continued another 10 !

word of advice about me ……

I thrive and Love mumble chatter …. it keeps me going !!!

All these done in cadence

short mosey to parking lot and at far end karaoke facing buildings at other end switch to facing rail road tracks

some duscussion of whether running was still off menu as I heard mention of my …what was it?…. 54 5ks in the last few days?

move to bridge … new activity alligator merkins …. advance to arm lengths merkin across bridge …. “ safely mosey” ( no crosswalk here) to other side of bridge … now crab walk….. several struggled but rather than push them too hard I had rest of pax save the rest for later … too much to do today !

onto another new place and exercise … dircectly across from parking lot most of us use look across street and you will see a long line of posts set in concrete …. it was here we slalomed down being mindful that the last few set in curbing creating tripping hazard.  Kudos to Island for showing all how slim he is even using the two set one inch apart from each other! Other end 20 squats … back through 2 more times … move behind these building to long low yellow rail beside tattoo parlor for 2 rounds of 10 dips and 10 derkins.

Now for the run over to DSS and back side of parking lot with an elevation for something I’ve wanted to use for a long time and have never seen / read of its use …. Burp back mountain … it was at this time that Stone Cold Offered private viewings of Broke back Mountain but I had to wrestle all back in line advising them of how close we were to the police station and to settle down!!! The activity requires partners … p1 does burpees while p2 nurs up hill and then returns running forward…. the usual count was called of 100 …. but as I and others were guickly getting gassed and we still had one more fun activity we completed 75 and moved on back to start .

I’ be been trying to incorporate more partner activity as that is another area I’ve been s little remiss in and love to work out with as many different pax as possible …. so…. choose new partner! P1 does sit-ups while p2 holds others ankles to perform 10 plank jacks …. switch off for 5 of each .

lastly we had more time left than I thought so we did Mary  ….Gastone picked …. I think you know …. and you probably know the count too ….other activities were am hammers squats lbcs Freddie Merck’s and I remember Stone Cold asking if time left …. I said 20 seconds …. he called 5 burpees and unfortunately Broke was left out as time was called .

dont forget Quichemas Dec 15

prayers for brothers such as Stroganoff on I R and others who havent posted in some time also prayers for Tool Time job interview

Blart asked for Q’s so…

Blart asked for some Q’s to be filled tuesday, so I stepped up and grabbed the Q for Thursday 11/29. I’ve still been working on getting the hip and back healed up so it was a good chance to test them out with some sprints.

It was a pretty typical Wojo beatdown. SHOW TO KNOW!
