Gastonimer 100

In case you didn’t hear, the Mortimer 100 was nine days ago. That’s the 100 mile relay between Hickory and Boone. And the fact that it’s no where near 100 miles from Hickory to Boone is not the strangest things about that race. For all the shenanigans of that adventure read that BB when it comes out. YHC was inspired to bring the Mortimer spirit down to the southern end of the F321 corridor.

After a quick recon mission, I rolled up on some runners getting in some EC. They later put the invitation out to join them every Monday at 0500 for some EC.

A good crowed began to gather on a chilly Monday morning. 0530, let’s go.

The Pledge, followed by a brief disclaimer.

Warm-up
SSH x 15
Merkins x 15
LBCs x 15

Let’s mosey. A quick detour through the abandoned bank parking lot to throw the PAX off and then off to our destination. I’d planned on stopping to collect everyone together, but the PAX stayed pretty close together for the mosey. After several comments about not knowing if they’d posted at The Pub, I decided to give them what they asked for and stop the mosey. Well what do you know, we are at the base of Gastone’s Hill. What are the odds?

Full of the Mortimer spirit, I told the PAX we didn’t have enough time to get in 100 miles or even 100 kilometers in the time we had so we’d have to settle for 100 count of exercises.

Here’s the thang:

Up the hill. Stop at each mailbox and perform ten of an exercise. One exercise. Ten at each mailbox. Easy enough? Stop after the 5th mailbox to plank for the 6. We would soon discover that the 5th mailbox was not exactly half-way up the hill. It wasn’t even a quarter-way up the hill.

Round 1 – Merkins

The 10th mailbox wasn’t all the way to the end of the street so some PAX continued doing the exercise at the 11th and even 12th mailbox. Hey, YvY.

Mosey to the bottom of the hill.

Round 2 – Squats – Plank after for the 6 after the 5th mailbox again.

Up to the top then mosey to the bottom of the hill.

Round 3 – Big Boy Sit-ups facing uphill – Plank 4 6 after 5.

Up to the top then mosey to the bottom of the hill.

On the way down, I was thinking of the exercise for round 4. I thought calf raises would be pretty terrible but I’ll put the choice out to the group. Without prompting or hesitation, Gastone blurted out, “Calf raises.” There you have it. It’s his hill and that’s what I’d been feeling so calf raises it is.

Round 4 – Calf Raises with a NUR up the hill (in honor of the “by any means necessary” strategy I used to make it up Pilot Ridge Rd and up to Howard’s Knob during the Mortimer) – Once again plank 4 6 after 5.

Up to the top then mosey to the bottom of the hill.

Time to mosey back.

Crossroads at The Sword

At the Sword,  we usually stay in line with the Q Source topics at Crossroads, but apply the Word to it.

Today was no different.

Matthew 19 13-15:

Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”  And he laid his hands on them and went away.

13 PAX for the most part posted to the new AO in Dallas this morning. I say for the most part because two batflippers started at Folsom then ran over to meet us about 20 minutes in to it. Roundup and Dr Seuss got their credit in the Folsom BB so I’m just mentioning them here. I think Seuss thought he found another way to climb the posting leader board but not on my watch.

Warmup:

We did some stuff you know the regular type stuff

Lets mosey!

The Thang:

Over to the court house square to get things started. Do 20 merkins and run to the next corner. 20 more and go to the next corner except this time bear crawl the arch driveway of the courthouse. We made our way around the square hitting all four corners.

At the corner of Gaston and Main. Run to Maple st doing 10 Freddy Mercury’s at each intersection and run back. Go to Maple st again but do 20 lbc’s at each intersection and stay this time instead of running back.

Mosey to Pine st and do 1 burpee at each pole.

Mosey over to Church st.

From the corner of Pine st and Church st mosey to Gaston st and do 1 burpee at each  intersection and 5 jump squats at each pole on the right(it was a lot of poles)

Down to Holland st where the birthday girl(Mrs Pizza Man) lives for a triple nickel. We switched it up a little for the birthday. 1 burpee at the bottom, 5 plank jacks at the top, and 5 monkey humpers each time you pass her driveway. Facing away from the house of course. We even sang happy birthday as we ran up and down. Golddigger stopped off for some pullups on PM’s bar.

Mosey over to the intersection of Oakland and Main for some Dora. 100 CDD’s, 150, LBC’s, and 200 Flutter kicks. Partner has to run in a different direction each time to the next stop sign.

A few minutes to go so we used the parallel parking  spots on the street. Bear crawl one then lunge one, rinse and repeat for the block.

NMM:

Pax hit it hard today. We didn’t even stop for a 10 count. Stayed up and at it. Slalom was awesome today. Really created a challenge and the need to gut it out to get it done. That’s the 4th quarter. It’s about pushing the hardest when you are dog tired and want to quit. In F3. In life. The 4th is the difference maker. It’s where the legacy comes from. The leave right part. So getting tougher in the 4th quarter for YHC is a nonnegotiable thing. Every time, all the time.

Welcome FNG Palmer. New to Belmont via RTP and Tennessee. Looking forward to lots of posts from him. Great Q source by Breaker. Ruckers were out for over 2 hours.

Tesla out

Block Party at Folsom

When Wichita told me I had the Q for this Saturday, I had some questions about what to do (since I have been dealing with a calf injury that kept me out of the P70). So, block party it was. Thanks to Sparky and Hacksaw for loaning their blocks.

So the thing:

Warm up was (JV) pretty simple and light. Side Straddle Hops (IC) x 15, Gravel pickers (IC) x 10, Moroccan Night Clubs 50

Mosey to bottom parking lot for blocks and illustration of a few exercises. Two teams were formed. the 1’s took the left side and the 2’s took the right side. Both teams start at the same time.

Team 1 starts with:

  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 25 yards, 25 Triceps behind head, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 50 yards, 50 squats with block, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 75 yards, 75 arm curls with block,  carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 100 yards, 100 chest press with block on your back, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot

Team 2 starts with:

  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 25 yards, 25 Squat thrusters, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 50 yards, 50 combo merkins, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 75 yards, 75 arm presses,  carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot
  • 5 blockies, murder bunnies for 100 yards, 100 leg lifts over block, carry block back to start and run a lap around the parking lot

Once each team finished their side of workouts, they move to the other and repeat with the different exercise

We then mosey back beside tennis courts and did 10 rounds of Iron Hulks.

We finished the workout with my favorite “picking cherries” we did 4 rounds (30 sec picking cherries, 20 sec dropping cherries, 10 sec overhead clap).

I then shared a little word from the Good Book. Proverbs 13:22 and shared “What will your legacy be?”

Always try to keep these 2 things in mind: (1) Today is all you’ve got and (2) You will leave a legacy. Focus on being good and doing good and ask yourself regularly, “How do I want to be remembered by my loved ones?  When my time here runs out, will I continue to influence others for good and for God?”

Prayer request: Sister Act’s family, Big Pappy and family,  Wirenut’s aunt, Bedpan’s mom, James Goudelock

Announcements: Convergence April 17 at Bulldog, PT test April 24 at GasHouse

It’s an honor to know and get to workout with you guys. Thanks for the support.
