Beatdown Accomplished. No Apocalypse Yet.

“…he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left”
Sheep: Nine PAX braved the gloom this morning at #GoatIsland.
The Goats: Fartsakers
Warmup:
SSH, Merkins, CDD, JoBus, LBC, Hillbillies, Flutter kicks & a lap around the field.
The Thang:
The PAX laid railroad tracks up the hill, and then did a 3 Corner Escalator (10 burpees, 20 Rocky Balboas, 30 Merkins, 40 squats) then back down the escalator doing all the same in reverse.
Next we moseyed behind the BB&T for 200 LBCs. One partner did LBCs while the other ran up the hill to the railroad tracks and slid, crab-walked, or tumbled back down. Next we did some Moroccan Nightclubs and a round of ATMs (Hat Tip Whoopie for introducing them yesterday).
No Cramerton beatdown would be complete without honoring our friends at BB&T. Tempting as it was to proceed with Donkey Kicks, we settled for the People’s Chair with two PAX at a time running around the building.
We ran a lap around the field to return to the parking lot, where Roscoe led an awful burpee/merkin combo, JK2 led some Imperial Walkers, Dolph led some exercise that he can name, and someone led some flutter kicks.
Announcements: 1/16 Q school + beatdown + community service; anniversary F3 at Boss Hogg’s–coffee will be served.
Prayer requests: Stroganoff’s bro-in-law.
COT

Insufficient Funds

It was clearly the coldest post for me on record, however we still had a very good showing, including 3 who showed for some extra credit at 5am to get a little running in before the workout (OutHouse, Defib, Whoopee-thanks for the push OutHouse). I learned a few things this morning: 24 degrees is too cold for shorts, SSH is best thing for pre-frost bite fingers (more is better, 40 reps is adequate), and I don’t like Wells Fargo ATMs.

WU: 10-15 reps IC of the following: SSH, CDD, Flutter, Squat, Merkin, Imperial Walker, Freddy Mercury (this was a true WU for me full of boredom after the first few exercises but I felt were necessary given the low temps).

Pledge

The Thang:

Mosey carrying the medicine ball to dilapidated Lowe’s parking lot, partner up (not necessary but gave us something to do until all pax arrived). Split into 2 lines and 1 pax from each line did relay with medicine ball around parking lot in different directions but crossing in middle on other side of lot to hand off medicine ball then continue around back to start. While partners were doing this running thing, the remaining pax stayed at the start and did rounds of AMRAP of the following exercises: SSH, CDD, Flutter, Squat, Merkin, Imperial Walker, and Freddy Mercury. After the pax returned to start, the next in line repeated the relay/run with ball until all had gone twice (I think) while remaining pax moved on to the next exercise. This really makes sense in my head but sounds very confusing on paper.

Next exercise consisted of Donkey Kicks (also known as BB&T’s) and Dips. We started in front of store and did 30 seconds of BB&Ts then moseyed to end of building and did 30 seconds of dips. I think we did 2 sets of this, but just for the record let’s call it 5 sets of each.

I was getting bored with this I think because of the lack of mumble chatter. Was not sure if it was the workout or the cold weather….my vote is the weather since I had snot-icycles at this point.

We moved on down my Weinke and did a quick audible. My plan was to mosey to the local Bank of Bank (not really that far) but during the mosey we came upon a Wells Fargo ATM which served my purposes just fine. In front of the ATM we did ATMs (A=15 sets of alternating shoulder taps in 4 counts, T=tempo merkins:1-3 down then up on 4, M=regular fast single count merkins). We moseyed around the entire parking lot for total of 2 sets of ATMs (only comment was from OutHouse-“insufficient funds” which almost made me laugh a snotcylce out) then went back to the original starting point in front of the store and did some zombie lunge walk. At this point my fingers were numb and my legs really felt funny so I pulled an Oklahoma and did a bunch of SSH-this quickly returned blood to my fingers which made me want to keep doing them (sorry Linus, my fingers needed that). We did some more lunges then moseyed back to start for a few minutes of Mary plus a frozen cockroach. I succeeded in avoiding the escalating burpee/lap run on my Weinke so I was relieved to be finished.

The cold weather really takes some of the fun out of this for me, however if I did not have the pax to work out with, I would clearly be at home in my fartsack. Instead, I had a half hour of running before the workout with a couple great guys, learned something about cold fingers and SSHs, and got a chance to talk about F3 with Defib and some non-F3 people on the way to a lunch meeting after finding the medicine ball in my back seat. Thanks for showing up and posting.

We ended with announcements: Q school Jan 16 with some community service after for those able to stick around, Yeti in Feb, Congrats to Boss Hogg on the grandchild and a few others I cannot remember.

Great seeing everyone this am. If you need me, I’ll be at Dick’s getting some long, cold-weather running pants, earmuffs, mittens, a scarf, goggles, and a pair of yak-lined running shoes.

A Trip to Victory Hill – BackBlast

Fifteen PAX (including one FNG) answered the call and posted to the first workout at #TheStorm of 2016. When YHC got out of the #momwagon the temperature outside was 26 degrees, so it was no surprise to the see all members of the group tightly bundled – all members except Top Hat, who posted in his signature Duke hoodie and SHORTS. With one FNG in tow, it was time to remind everyone of the disclaimer, stating that no one here was an expert and that we’re idiots so if you follow us, you must be an idiot too. YHC stated that if F3 stood for Food, Fun, and more Fun, that he might consider myself an expert. With the laughter coming to an end, it was time for the Warm-Up (Unfortunately, no one would actually be warm until a little later).

The Warm-Up, as always, was in cadence and began with 20 Side-Straddle Hops. Next came 20 Scorpion Carolina Dry Docks (CDD’s with one leg in the air like a scorpion’s tale) with ten reps of each leg in the air. The third exercise brought the PAX to frozen ground, as it was time for 20 Little Baby Crunches. The fourth exercise was a lesson in cultural sensitivity as the PAX completed 10 Appalachian Americans (formerly Hillbillies) in a nod to T-Square, who has not appreciated all the racism (is Hillbilly, er, Appalachian American actually a race?) we’ve been having in F3. The final exercise of the warm-up was a set of 10 Imperial Walkers, and since we didn’t have any soldiers of the Grand Republic Army in our group, we left it at that.

The Thang began with a mosey to the gate of the football stadium. The PAX were then notified that they would be completing a round of Burpicides with increasing burpees at each stop. In all, there would be EIGHT stops, so the PAX who were able to complete 100% of this work out actually did 36 burpees by the end.

Partnering up, the group had to go the length of half the parking lot alternating between Lunges and Bear Crawls. T-Claps are due to JoBu who made sure YHC only had to Bear Crawl about 15 yards. With plenty of time still left of the clock, the PAX moseyed their way further from #TheStorm with many beginning to wonder if we would be heading to #GoatIsland to finish the workout. Instead, the PAX stopped just before leaving Stuart Cramer’s campus and met for the first time, #VictoryHill.

The Beatdown of #VictoryHill commenced with the PAX once again joining with their partner and completing 200 Squats on an aggregate count while their partner ran up the hill and did one Burpee before returning to the bottom. YHC informed the group once again of the disclaimer as #VictoryHill has quite a few holes – cannonball craters, no doubt, from the storied Battle for Castle Cramer during the 1460’s.

The Beatdown continued with a Bear Crawl up the hill and by then, it was time to count off not once, not twice, but THRICE (look it up) before moving on to the next exercises. The PAX then moseyed across the field and back before making their way down the #VictoryHill. Extra Credit was awarded to Dolph and others who decided to do a Backwards Bear Crawl down the hill.

At the bottom, it was time to make our way back to the start but as many of you know, YHC is not a huge fan of running anywhere without stopping. So, the PAX started their journey back with a Bear Crawl from the first speed bump to the guard rails. Stopping for a break at the rails, the group completed 10 Dips and 10 Derkins, in cadence, on the rails before moving on. From the guard rails, it was time to complete a Zombie Walk to second speed bump. In an Ode to the Mayor, the PAX then completed a Backwards Skip from the second speed bump to the SCHS Spirit Rock. After moseying from the rock to the third speed bump, the PAX completed 15 Flutter Kicks in cadence and a round of Homer to Marge.

Several of the PAX were deducted T-Claps for racing back to the starting point when they were clearly instructed to mosey – I’m looking at you Dolph, Roscoe, and Bandit! Back at the starting point, the workout was closed out with 7 French Fries, a Ring of Fire with 5 Merkins each, and 5 Burpees OYO.

The BOM consisted of the Pledge of Allegiance, Name-o-Rama, Announcements, and Prayer lead by T-Square. T-Claps are in order to our newest FNG, Stick (AKA Wade Crofton), for braving the freezing temperatures to see what this F3 nonsense is all about.

Closing Note – The temperature actually dropped from 26 to 23 degrees by the end of the workout!

Thanks again to all that showed up this morning, I wholly expected three or four guys to be out here.

A Trip to Victory Hill

For the PAX who are brave enough to post to tomorrow’s first beatdown at #TheStorm, they will be treated to a lengthy visit to Victory Hill. My best advice is to bring your gloves and dress warm as Google predicts we’ll be battling temperatures in the mid-twenties.

Forrest Gump 2016 Resolution

20 PAX showed up in the gloom for the first Gashouse workout of 2016.  It was refreshing to see so many familiar faces and at least one we had not seen in a while, Wink (Respect!).  The normal pre-workout chatter was more than normal as the discussion surrounded the previous day’s convergence which sounded like quite the beatdown and a good all around event and workout.  Sorry I was not able to attend.

We dispensed with the disclaimer as there were no FNG’s and got right to the warm up all in cadence:

SSH X 20

LBC’s X 20

Imperial Walkers X 20

Mountain Climbers X 20

We then moseyed to the main Schiele flag for the pledge and readied ourselves for the 2016 Forrest Gump Resolution.

The Thang

The Q attempted to split the group (20 large) into two for an indian run to the right out of the Schiele but that quickly turned into a indian run free for all…….we all made it however to station 1 at the Church for some in cadence work:

Merkins X 15

Prayer Squats X 15

LBC’s X 20

Mountain Climbers X 18 (I think)

Second attempt at a two group indian run was much more successful as we moseyed/ran to Hillbilly’s BBQ parking lot for Station 2 in cadence:

Hillbilly’s X 15 or 18 or maybe 20??

Merkins X 15

Prayer Squats X 15

Flutter Kicks X 20

Not sure what the next running leg was to Lineberger Park flags – it might have been a single file mosey, it might have been two group indian run, it might have been a single line indian run….just…not…sure.  However, the PAX all made it to station 3:

Partner up for a step up to 600.  While one partner did the exercise and other ran/sprinted/skipped up the concrete ramp and to the pool steps and back for an aggregate count as listed below:

100 Merkins

200 Mountain Climbers (Double Count)

300 Flutter Kicks (Omaha to single count as the Q realized he had a problem)

The group knocked this one out and many planked but not for long as the group finished quickly.

A single file death mosey then took us up the ramp and steps up to the upper playground inside the train tracks.  After a quick count off we jumped on the in cadence work of station 4:

Dips X 20

Prayer Squats X 15

Derkins X 15

Flutter Kicks X 25 (or 26 or 30???)

Mosey as a group back to the Lineberger Park flags to finish off the park stations at # 5 with a wave of merkins X 5 in the counter clockwise direction much to Roscoe’s dismay.  He made the Q pay as he stretched out his merkins in quite a display of agonizing, slow reps.  We survived.

Last mosey of the day as we ROYO (Ran On Your Own) back to the Church for station 6 for some last in cadence work:

Flutter Kicks X 30+ (Some number in the range of 28 – 35)

Merkins X 15

Monkey Humpers X 12 – These were especially interesting as we turned away from Garrison Blvd to show all the car drivers exactly what F3 is all about.

Finally, the final mosey back to the Schiele.  I’m estimating that we got in somewhere close to 3 miles total today.

Must send a shout out to Outhouse, Brownstreak and Whoopee for getting in some running before the main workout today, somewhere in the 3 – 4 mile range.  Good work guys.  Whoopee had to hit work at 7:00 am so he missed the second beatdown but that’s F3 dedication to get out there at 6:15 am at 31 degrees for a pre-work run.  T-claps to all 3 of those guys.

We finished the workout off with the name-o-rama, several announcements (Joe Davis Memorial 10k next weekend in Fort Mill; community service opportunity on the 16th to help on a house renovation), prayer request for Stroganoff’s cousin who is battling cancer and happy news for Wink who just welcomed his 3rd grandchild and first boy to the fold.  Congrats.

Finished with a prayer and great BOM.

6 – 7 guys then met for a great Coffeeteria.

As always, it was an honor to lead this morning.  I’m looking forward to a great 2016.

Aye!

Finishing 2015 Strong – The Goat, Safe from the South Fork River

14 Pax showed up for the final workout for 2015.  Worried that we would have to find a new location for 2016 due to the rising waters of the South Fork River, we were happy to find Goat Island and downtown Cramerton safe from the river.  It was definitely close to taking out the road.

After the normal chatter between BA and the Godfather, and the Godfather informing the PAX about his dangerous encounter with a local boot camp lady, we were off.  We started with just a couple warm-up exercises.

  • Side Straddle Hops x20
  • Imperial Walker x10 (those are hard to do in cadence, I feel ya Dolph)
  • Pledge

Next, the PAX did a warm-up lap around downtown Cramerton.  Word of advice, don’t run near the bigger guys when there are large puddles of water from the recent rain.  After returning, I directed the PAX to partner up and grab a cinder block from my truck.  Out of nowhere, Dolph pulls one out of his truck.  Next time, we need to check his to make sure it is official.  Mosey to the infamous donkey kick wall with the blocks.

With partner, one runs up the stairs and around the building while working together to complete the following.

  • 300 chest raises
  • 200 curls
  • 100 french curls

After completion of these I informed the group to finish 2015 strong, each person would take turn completing 3 sets of 5 blockees for a total of 15.  When not working on the set, partner planked until it was time to switch.  Great work guys!

After completion of the BA cinder block circuit, mosey back to my truck to return the cinder blocks.  Next, the PAX gathered at the bottom of the hill and were informed of the next task.  Zombie walk halfway up the hill, run to the top, zombie walk halfway down the hill, and run to the starting point.  Plank until everyone finishes.  Not finished with the hill, I informed the group of the last exercise at this location, suicide run halfway up the hill, back to start, all the way to the top, and then all the way to the bottom.  Finished with a set of French Fries in cadence.  Great work men!!!

Finished up the beat down with circle of trust with a New Years Eve theme.  I asked the group to go around, tell everyone of a good thing that happened in 2015, and lead an exercise.  There were so many great things that we have done in 2015.  Almost every PAX member informed the group that joining F3 was a great thing for them in 2015.  Other highlights included Anthrax announcement of expecting 2nd child, reelection of the Mayor, and the Godfather engagement on the bridge at Goat Island.  Sorry if I missed some of yours.  Following exercises were completed during this task.

  • 2 Sets of Monkey Humpers (Joboos)
  • Hill Billys
  • 2 sets of 5 Burpees
  • Merkins
  • Spider Jumps
  • Toy Soldiers (great Cadence Tophat)
  •  Mason Twist
  • Squats
  • Mountain climbers
  • CDD’s
  • LBC’s

Moleskin:

We have a great thing going in Gastonia, Charlotte, and the Country with F3.  2015 was a great year, especially the formation of F3 Gastonia.  Thanks BA for getting me involved.  Lets keep this thing going for 2016 and make it even better.  Let’s get some more FNG’s!  Let’s continue to help the local community.  Let’s continue to be positive men and continue to lead our families and others around us.  Pleasure being able to lead you guys this morning!  See you all at the convergence tomorrow morning to bring in the New Year!

Storming Outside

Certainly not the worst weather we have seen, but regardless the PAX were led outside in the rain for a cardio-heavy workout.  We took some cover under the breezeway at the school drop off and entrance for most of the work out, but there was still no way to stay 100% dry.  #SorryNotSorry.

TClaps to Brownstreak and Whoopee who got an early 0500 start for some running in the rain before the Q and PAX arrived… if only my alarm clock started that early.

At 0530 we start with the warmup…

  • SSH IC x 10
  • Merkins IC x 10, right to…
  • Planks with Leg/Arm Extensions, right to…
  • Mountain Climbers

Recover and mosey to the parking lot for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Back to the breezeway to run a few laps (about .25 miles) and get loose.  Also included about 100 meter Zombie Walk – Godfather style and 20 LBC IC.

With the PAX warmed up (and expecting sprints through the rain in the parking lot), YHC leads the PAX in some Dora 1-2-3 under cover.  Partner up and collectively complete 100 Merkins, 200 LBCs, and 300 Squats.  Partner A runs sprints under the breezeway while Partner B completes reps.

Unless someone can prove otherwise, I believe we had a first for a F3 workout… In the middle of Dora 1-2-3, an emergency request was made to open the doors for one PAX who needed #2.  Must have been the quickest ever – probably didn’t wipe.  No, this was not Brown Streak.

As promised, to ensure a proper cardio beatdown, we Indian Run a few laps around the parking lot  (was about .75 mile total).  YHC needs to practice leading a moving Indian Run as my instructions to have the leader circle back to pick up the six did not produce the desired result.  Probably should say something like Circle Back to Pick Up The Six, not Circle Up.  #LearningToLead

We wrap up our workout with 7 Minutes of Mary…

  • LBC
  • Homer and Marge
  • Dying Cockroach (of course)
  • Flutter Kicks
  • Scissor Kicks
  • Plank (high, extensions, low, french fries).

During our extended plank, in attempt to fight off the agony (while completely spent) YHC asked anyone for a good story.  Like a scene from SNL Celebrity Jeopardy, Dolph answers, “What is Five burpee’s on your own”.  Certainly not a literary work of art, but since Dolph insisted, this is in fact, a short story.  You can argue with Dolph if you like.

As requested, we finish our workout with 5 BOYO.

Moleskin:

Working out in bad weather is one of the things I really enjoy about F3. Sure, it sucks when are dragging your can out of bed at 0500 (or earlier), and driving through a downpour to your AO, with the inevitable reality that in 45 minutes you will climbing back into your car soaking wet and exhausted ready to start the rest of your day (before most get out of bed).  But doing this with a group of great men who I’ve had the pleasure to push the rock with for the last 9 months makes this worth it. Knowing you’ll be talking about this at Coffeeteria or 2ndF Happy Hour is something I won’t give up, and a gift worth sharing with others.

Announcements:

  • 5th Anniversary Convergence on Friday.  Clown Cars leave the Scheile on Friday at 0600.
  • Tooltime and Flush are looking for anyone interested in a Spartan race.  Check with Tooltime if there is any interest.
  • Keep Inky and his family in your prayers with the passing of his father in law.
  • We give thanks for the news that Anthrax will be a dad again!

I’m thankful for my brothers that get up with me at stupid hours, in bad weather, that motivate me, and push me to be better.  Aye!

Martha’s House Party

10 PAX showed up at Martha’s House even thought the forecast was calling for rain.

Since I had not Q’d in a while I thought a pre-Christmas party was in good order.  At 5:30 sharp we began with the disclaimer followed by the Pledge.  Quick mosey over to the bank to get the party started.

To set the tone, we  kicked everything off with the Slaughter Starter– 20 Burpees OYO

Next was the  Warm Up

Each exercise was completed AMRAP for 20 seconds with a 10 second rest.  Merkin, LBC, SSH, Imperial Walker, Plank, there may have been others here, but it was more than enough to get the blood flowing

The Thang-Since this was a party, the PAX paired up for a Princess Tea Party: PAX grabbed a partner.  With partners facing each other in plank position. Partners did Pattycake Merkins for 10 reps, followed by a Partner People’s Chair (Back to back wall sit) for 30 seconds.  Repeato but with 15 reps for the next round. The bank patrons were surely laughing while attempting to use the ATM.  After a quick count while still feeling the burn we started Super 21 OYO: Do 1 merkin followed by 1 sit-up; 2 merkins / 2 sit-ups; 3 merkins / 3 sit-ups, etc., etc. up to 10.  Once all PAX reached 10 we did 21 Squats. Continued the ladder from 11-15 and did 21 Monkey Humpers.  At this point counting was getting hard so YHC called off the remaining sets.  Total me4rkins and sit-ups= 120. Next we moseyed down to the parking lots at the ballpark.  Once gathered a count was given, no one was lost.  Keeping the party going, we completed 2 sets of SheHateMe across the parking lot 10 lunges each leg, 10 Burps, 10 SDD. Next we did Bear Crawl Snake: PAX lined up head to feet in plank position. The man in the back of the line bear crawls to front of the line weaving in and out of the planking PAX and yells when at front.  Next man does the same thing until all PAX made it through 3x.  Feeling quite obliterated we moseyed back to ice cream.  We still had a couple of minutes paid for so we did merkin ring of fire until time expired(5 rounds).

Finished with COT and announcements

Step up and lead, you won’t regret it!

Thanks for giving me the pleasure to lead, you men are an awesome group!!

Richard Simmons out!

BackBlast- GasHouse: Cinder Blocks And Some Merlot Splashing

20 PAX (including 1 FNG) showed up for some merlot splashing, sore arms, and a lot of sweat being put down on the pavement.

This was my first chance to post to GasHouse since July 25th due to my coaching schedule and other things that have come up.  I figured I might as well Q on my return.  I have been posting at the weekday AOs, but forgot how much the extra 15 minutes on the Saturday morning workouts adds to the difficulty of a F3 workout.  My goal was to make this a good upper body beatdown on my return to GasHouse.

12/24 #GoatIsland BB – “Twas the Morning Before Christmas”

Admittedly, it was difficult to turn on my alarm last night for 4:30 after ceremoniously turning it off last Friday morning (my last day of work before Winter Break), but it turned out to be even harder to get out of bed the morning of Christmas Eve. The tone of the work out was set when I slipped and fell in the mud while setting up the Shovel Flag (on a side note, the flag also fell into the mud a couple of times, so it might be time to get another one). It was a special Christmas treat for the #GoatIsland regulars when our resident knuckle-head, Whoopee, pulled up and hoped out of his car – his first time working out at the Cramerton AO.

True to my nature, I didn’t plan anything for the workout, but I made the last-minute decision to rename some of our exercises to fit a more festive theme.

The Warm-Up began with 24 reps of each of the following: Side-Straddle Hop (aka Elf Jacks), Don Quixote (aka Stocking Stuffers), Imperial Walkers (aka Toy Soldiers), and Monkey Humpers (aka JoBu’s).

After a short mosey to the bottom of the hill, it was time to begin with a quick round of Dora 1-2-3. After the PAX paired up, they learned they would be doing 100 Merkins, 200 Squats, and 300 LBC’s on an aggregate count while one partner ran up to the top of the hill and back before switching off. The rain that began to fall about midway through the squat round was a welcome break from the unseasonably humid morning.

Because the people who work out at the Boot Camp aren’t as intense as F3 Nation, they didn’t have a workout at 5AM, so when the Boot Camp patrons began to arrive a little before 6AM, we moseyed past the Camp’s door to establish our dominance as the premier work out group of Cramerton, NC on our way to the alley between BB&T and the big brick building (I’m not sure what the building is).

In the alley, the PAX were informed they would be doing a round of Elevens. At one end of the alley, we did 10 reps of Merkins then moseyed to the other end of the alley and did 1 Squat. The exercise repeats with decreasing Merkins and increasing Squats until you finish with 1 Merkin and 10 Squats. T-Claps to Whoopee and some others who finished first and got in a little extra credit by running the stairs while the rest of the group finished.

With some time still left on the clock, the group took a seat on the F3-funded wall of BB&T for a Wall-Sit Relay. Two PAX would run up the stairs and around the brick building (from before) while the rest maintained a wall-sit until all members finished. With a little more still left in the tank, it was time to mosey back to the Parking Lot.

For the Cool Down, there was just enough time to complete a Ring of Fire (5 Merkins Each), 20 Gorilla Humpers20 Jump Squats, and 10 Burpees OYO. T-Claps to Whoopee are once again in order as he made sure to draw out his five Merkins to punish Godfather and the other PAX who were still in plank position. Minus 5 T-Claps for Whoopee, however, for kissing the ground during his Merkins and crawling behind Godfather on his last Merkin and looking at him through his legs.

The work out was finished with a Name-O-Rama, a round of a few announcements, and T-Square closing in prayer.

Closing Notes

  • Whoopee’s #GoatIsland T-Clap Count: -3
  • Attendance for Coffeeteria: 6
  • Potential for F3 Members being banned from Floyd and Blackie’s: Pretty High

There are a TON of opportunities for PAX to step-up and lead workouts in January. Contact site-Q’s if you’re interested in leading.

Merry Christmas, and enjoy the time with your family!
