Memorial Day Murph

31 PAX gathered for an annual tradition to honor those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for the country that we love. It was also the yearly reminder that we don’t do enough Pull-up training.

If you don’t know, The Murph was called Body Armor when Lt. Michael P. Murphy would use this for his training regimin. Lt. Murphy gave his life during Operation Red Wing in Afghanistan along with 2 other Navy Seals from his team and 16 other Navy Seals and Army Night Stalkers that were part of the rescue team. More info can be found here: https://themurphchallenge.com/pages/lt-michael-p-murphy

The workout:
1 mile run
100 Pull-ups
200 Merkins
300 Squats
1 mile run

Upon completion, we gathered for COT

Prayer Requests
Turtleman’s family
Hot Corner – lift up Murphy and heart issue
Flintstone’s 2.1 Archie
Family of children that drowned
Gavel and family
Jackson Curdy
Velvet Elvis’s M and pending delivery

These requests made YHC think of a verse that was shared the prior day at church.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

We are surrounded by pain and suffering, but ultimately, we have a choice in how we respond and how we live our lives. May God take away our pain and anxiety and use us to spread his love to a hurting world.

Prayer to take us out.

Until next year…

At least it didn’t rain…………

Seems like Wednesday morning was becoming the normal rain morning.   NIce to see this morning clear and daylight breaking as we wrapped up!!

We ran again

The Usual suspects came out for a 5 mile run, other than @Buckeye.  Sargento showed up early (he’s started a new trend), Seuss complained about students (not a new trend) and gave me 10 bucks to list him 4 times in the PAX, hoping to easily secure another iron skillet.  G D humored us by acting like he was running (actually started sleeping at mile 2.5 while moving), and Fannie tried to get us to buy new houses in already overpopulated areas of Gaston County.

Enjoyed the banter and conversation, see you next week!

Impact at Members Only

Multiple groups of runners with a group of ruckers and a late arrival this morning for a dirty dozen PAX at Members Only on a perfect Sunday morning. Lost one PAX and picked up a Tesla for Qsource, topic was Impact. Had some good discussion, there was a visual aid,  poetry, and a homework assignment. Fun was had by all. Main take away: life is not practical without combination with others; however, very few men are willing and able to initiate movement to proximity. At times you will move on the continuum from Survivor to Servant. First step is showing up for your fellow PAX, no matter where you presently find yourself on the continuum.

Birthday Q!

YHC loves a good birthday Q, but at this time of year, we are far away. However, behold YHC’s mother, who turned 86 on 5/29.

86 reps! This is going to suck, but 6 HIM posted to see what would happen. Here is how it went.

After the pledge and a warm-up, Pax headed to the track where The Sentinel had it all warmed up. Now, YHC know that 86 reps at one time means crap for form, but what about 10 x 8 + 6? After conferring with the spreadsheet, this would equal 86, so let’s see if the Pax can make it work.

8 laps around the track, 10 reps for each exercise after a lap, plus 6 reps to start. Exercises were:

(M)erkins
(O)utlaws (feet together and make big circles) 5 each direction
Mike (T)ysons
(H)ydraulic squats (squat, down on 1 knee, down on the other knee, up the same way)
Burp(E)es, because there is nothing decent beginning with “E”
(R)ussian dips (Cossack style)

What does that spell… MOTHER. Happy birthday Mom!

After 6 rounds plus the 6 at the beginning, time was called and Pax were gassed. We’ll make up the last 2 rounds another day.

bones and blood

5 jabroneys (you had to be there) gathered at the best watering hole in Gaston county this morning ready for some running. It was a cool morning and no clouds in site. Waterboy got some EC but still looked ready to get some as usual. Alma Mater got there early. Sargento was early also, especially by his standards. JJ rolled in looking well rested. We had 2 shovel flags and we started with the disclaimer and hit the pledge. It. Was. A. Perfect. Morning……and then we started running. Damn.

Five minutes into running the wheels fell off. It was ALMOST AS IF it was planned……

Waterboy and Alma Mater were just a bit ahead of me, Sargento, and JJ. We came upon some tree limbs on the sidewalk and as I stepped off the sidewalk, Sargento (closest to me) yells “STICKS” as I simultaneously break my ankle landing on the pavement. I have a red mark on my right shoulder that resembles a hand. At nearly the same time, JJ (again, Sargento is closest to him-coincidence???? I will let you be the judge) crashes into the sticks, falls to the ground and while I am not certain, possibly gets kicked in the head by someone (was it Sargento, I couldn’t say because I was seeing stars from the broken ankle) before recovering and getting back on his feet. After a few minutes of limping around by me and a tourniquet on JJ’s right arm, we continue on our route. I needed a few minutes to set my broken ankle back into place then resume the route at a slower pace. We finished the run. If memory serves me right, I believe Sargento finished first…..Damn.

Once we all made it back to start, we finished with COT. I told the group I might suggest a new nickname for Sargento but they would need to wait for the backblast to hear it. We had a quick prayer then JJ and I shared an uber to the ER.

thanks for the opportunity to lead at the pub for the very last time….

Whoopee

Sargento will now be referred to as Gillooly by me (for at least the next week).
