Four

5 PAX posted for the end of the 40/50 challenge and swept the streets of Belmont clean for the CSAUP! We challenged ourselves to see who could find the weirdest thing. There were a lot of weird items we made up and lied about but it was decided the diaper was at least the worst thing.  Despite being grossed out we got it of the streets.

13 was the number for the boot camp. I’ll let you do the math here but by my count a lot more trash could have been cleaned up. Just sayin/not sorry!

Warmup:

Mosey to a nearby parking lot for some SSH and Don q’s. I didn’t have anything planned here so let’s get on with it.

Mosey to the bottom center area of the park.

The Thang:

Run the path all the way up to the middle school field and do 10 each of merkins, lunges, and WWI’s. Run back down and repeat. That’s one round….do 4 rounds.

Super quite this morning.

Mosey up to the field. Run a lap while the Q sets up some cones.

Bear crawl to each cone and at the cone do the exercise. Exercises at the cones were in this order 20 squats, 20 merkins, 20-4 count flutters, 20-4 count mtn climbers.  Run to the other end of the field and run the lap back to the start. Rinse and repeat. Do 4 rounds.

Still really quite. I guess these guys are just here to work. Tiger recognizes how weird it is when I don’t mummblechatter.

Mosey to the wall at the school.

Wall sits, then donkey kick ic and hold feet on the wall at the end(thank Pacman for this), rinse and repeat a few times. We threw some derkins in upon Boudin’s request. I introduced the dirty hookup to the crowd as well. That’s about time so lets mosey back to The Yank.

Finally a little trash talk began.

Word:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 ESV

This only in God’s power and minute by minute with future grace.

Consider the fact at Christmas, and each day throughout the year, that at salvation, “Jesus takes our sin, and we take His righteousness”. Jesus’ sacrifice and righteousness are the ultimate gifts, and these gifts are free; we don’t have to do anything to earn them.

This is the gospel — the good news that our sins are laid on Christ and his righteousness is laid on us, and that this great exchange becomes ours not by works but by faith alone. “By grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast” (Ephesians 2:8–9). (John Piper, “The Great Exchange”)

Not-So CSAUP CSAUP

20 HIM were not afraid of a pre-bootcamp CSAUP and accepted my challenge to make their communities a little cleaner.  As a regular of F3 posting in the gloom we often run / ruck right past all the litter on the streets often not even really seeing it.  During the 40/50 day challenge I challenged the pax to do something weekly that was for someone else.  So I thought why not wrap up the challenge with a CSAUP that will leave the areas that we use every week just a little better than the way we found it.  Just like picking up the six – “leave no man behind but leave no man where you find them” is a metaphor for lending a hand to those that need it – Likewise lets try to make the community we live in a little better.

Folks gathered at Folsom, Gashouse and the Yank to do just that.  Many wore rucksacks and rucked a few miles carrying garbage bags and picking up trash in the area.  Over 16 bags of trash were removed from the streets we use everyday.  The end result – our eyes were open to the trash we take for granted and the community was left just a little bit better.  I suspect there may also have been one or two motorists who recognized what we were doing and perhaps they will pay some form of service forward.  In any event I know that the pax who participated feel just a little better knowing that they did not just come to an AO and “leave it where we found it.”

40/50 day challenge close-out

YHC was coming in hot this morning having just finished the “Not-So-CSAUP CSAUP” (see backblast for it) I was rucking in at 7:01 to find the pax were ready and waiting.  Thanks to Gastone for keeping them occupied with some SSH.  Very brief thank you was given for all those participating in the CASUP – we collected over 12 bags of trash in just 90 mins.

Warm-up

LBCx20

That’s enough – we split into pain lab (Watts Up Q)  and bootcampers following me to the Grier track with a quick stop at the wall for 10 or so Hip slappers.

Thang:

10 exercises AMRAP for 1 min with 100yard run in between all exercises. Before each exercise was announced the pax were given the opportunity to earn immunity by answering Christmas movie trivia questions.  We found out that Stroganoff in addition to being an outstanding Nantan and CEO of GSM, also knows his Christmas movies earning 3 of the 10 immunities (yet he still performed most of the exercises anyway- what a HIM!)

Exercises included:

Plank Jacks

SSH

Flutter Kicks

Bobby Hurley

Diamond Merkins

Mountain Climbers

American Hammers

Peter Parkers

Monkey Humpers

LBCs

With just 20 min left we then divided up into two teams and played some ultimate football – good guys won by a narrow margin

Mosey back to Gashouse for one last surprise exercise – We all gathered around and did up/downs to Tubthumping – basically do one up/ down every time the words “I get knocked down” are sung.  This took us to time

COT – What a positive impact the 40/50 day challenge has been.  I noted that although we not have stuck to the diets as well as we liked, we all learned a lot about ourselves what it takes to lead a disciplined life to get our bodies in better shape.  When we get knocked down we need to get back up again!  I then emphasized that we take what we learned from this challenge and apply it to other aspects of our lives – namely growth in mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Joy and Peace and Cold

11 strong showed up a cold 26 degree morning in Downtown Gastonia. Here is how it went.
Warm Up
5 Burpees OYO, Goofballs x 10 IC, Don Q’s x 10 IC, Calf Raises x 10, Squats x 10 IC
Pledge
Mosey across bridge past Courthouse to the DSS parking lot stairs.
Partner up for SPAM (Stairs Partner Ab Merkins) I made the name up but “borrowed” the routine from Stroganoff.
Partner 1 runs up the stairs and does 10 Merkins and runs back down while Partner 2 does Flutter kicks until each partner does 3 sets. Switch the exercise to Squats for 3 sets each, then Freddie Mercuries for 3 sets each.
Mosey back across the bridge to the parking deck top floor.
Set up cones and the bluetooth speaker for Reducing Time Sprints. Starting with 10 second intervals with 8 seconds of rest for 3 sets then reducing time to 9 seconds for 3 sets then 8 seconds (lost a few guys) for 3 more sets then 7 seconds (lost a few more) and then 6 seconds with only Orangeman and Virus still beating the timer. Virus was rolling. While we caught our breath on the top floor of the parking deck I talked about two words that are used frequently around this time of year. Joy and Peace. I had to admit that I haven’t been too “happy” lately about several things but I am trying to keep an attitude of Joy and Peace. It has been said often that being “happy” is based on your current circumstances whereas Joy and Peace are deeper feelings that aren’t shaken by your current circumstances. I shared of people I have seen who had the Joy and Peace in absolutely horrible circumstances. I am striving to be that kind of person and we all should. Mosey back to the flag.
A few minutes left for Lindsays on the benches (I said benches):
30 Dips/10 LBC’s
25 Dips/15 LBC’s
20 Dips/20 LBC’s
15 Dips/25 LBC’s
Stopped for time.

Announcements: Not so CSAUP CSAUP Saturday December 21st at 5 am at Folsom, 5:30 at Yank and Gashouse.
Convergence on December 28th at Gashouse at 7am
After Christmas F3 Gastonia Party on January 4th at Lewis Farms.

COT: Dry Rub’s M, Orangeman’s mom, special request for Easy Rider’s son. You don’t always know who may need lifting up but Easy Rider shared with us about his son needing prayer and also he and his M needing it as well as they deal with their son. It was great to have a group of guys lift up their brother as he deals with some of the things this world throws at us. It is also great for a big strong guy to be willing to say he needs some help. Thanks Easy Rider. Bedpan took us out in prayer. Thanks to all of the guys who showed on this cold morning. It was a pleasure!

Christmas Memories

I’m trying to get in the Christmas spirit and it seems like everything is fighting against me this year. So since I had the Q at the regions premier JV afternoon workout, I decided to make a Christmas playlist, hook up the Bluetooth speaker and celebrate the Christmas season.
Warmup
SSH x 10 IC, Toy Soldiers x 10 IC, Hillbillies x 10 IC, Squats x 10 IC

Mosey to the small soccer field for the 12 Days of Christmas while listening to some traditional Christmas music (Manheim Steamroller, Transiberian Orchestra, Charlie Brown Christmas and Porky Pig). Some claimed the music was too loud but most enjoyed the sounds of the season.
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me “A lap around the soccer field”, etc., etc., etc.
2 Decline Merkins in cadence on bleachers called by Freight
3 Dips in cadence on bleachers called by Sister Act who is new to Midoriyama (great to have him)
4 Step Ups each leg on bleachers
5 Burpess OYO
6 Low Slow Squats called by Blart
7 Merkins in cadence called by Tater Hole
8 Dying Cockroaches in cadence called by Swimmer
8 Little Baby Flutter Crunches in cadence called by Tiger
10 Big Boy Sit Ups called by Dr. Seuss
11 Mountain Climbers in cadence
12 CDD’s in cadence
After each lap around the field I asked each guy to tell a Christmas memory from their past and we had some great ones. My Mamaw Wells after dinner would always say, “Get the Elvis album, It’s time to dance.” Here are a few from the guys: One of Freight’s family members always brought another family member an unwrapped six pack of Schlitz beer. The recent Slaw Christmas tree incident at Sister Act’s house where somehow the tree limbs gave Slaw a wedgie as SA’s M and girls were driving by was a fun one. Tater Hole wasn’t allowed out of his room on Christmas Eve so a bucket was necessary for “bodily functions”. Seuss had to help clean up his grandparents house and this sometimes required scaffolding. Tiger and Swimmer had some mischievous activities going on with some cousins and of course Blart and Ash Pond fighting over Casio watches.
Back to the flag

Announcements: Not So CSAUP December 21st 5 am at Folsom, 5:30 at Yank and Gashouse
Convergence December 28th 7:00 at Gashouse
After Christmas Party at Lewis Farms on January 4th

COT Remember Tiger’s dad, Stroganoff’s MIL, Broke’s wife, My son Logan had Mono but is feeling a little better. Oompa Loompa took us out.

** It was great to be out with the guys today. For some reason, I seemed to be laughing most of the workout. The mumblechatter seemed extra funny today, even the CDD jokes! Guys telling funny Christmas stories about friends and families. Guys saying the wrong ages in Nameorama. Guys calling me and Oompa old. Guys making fun of exercise form. It was a fun time!

Waist Down Beatdown

It’s been a while since I had the Q, so when Big Pappy asked I was happy to say yes. I pulled into Folsom to see Volt getting his mile in before the workout. Medicine Woman sitting in the parking lot waiting for start time, but not many others here yet. With a cold morning I wasn’t sure what to expect but it wasn’t long before the convoy of cars and trucks came pulling in. 14 HIMS came to get better this morning.

Warmarama:

Don Q’s, Hillbillys, Gravel Pickers, SSH all IC x 15

Thang:

Short mosey down the hill to the middle of the parking lot. Start off with 11’s. Big Boys then side lunge to middle of parking lot for heels to heaven.  This took a little longer than YHC expected so with most everyone finished we took an even shorter mosey to the shelter with a few guys sprinting to the shelter.

Here we did some more core and legs. Step ups x 10, Lbcs x20, split squat x10 each side, American hammers x20, front lunge x10 each leg, hands over your head flutter kicks x20, rear lunge x10 each leg. 2 sets of these exercises and it was time to head back to start. Several guys sprinting up the hill and the rest of us following.

Couple minutes left so we got 20 X crunches, 10 oblique crunches each side and some SSH to finish us up.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Prayer Request/  Praise Report:

Each other, Dallas Christian Ministry’s money raised for kids Christmas.

Several FNGs at Folsom the last couple of weeks. Thanks to Sparky for inviting these men out. One thing that each one of those guys told me was that Sparky has been asking them for a while to come out to F3. Don’t give up on those guys you are EH’ing! You never know when they will take you up on it!

Strong work out there by everyone today.  Thanks for the opportunity to lead!
