Cooler at Crossroads

Cooler morning at Crossroads. Some ran. Some biked. No ruckers. Broke ran 7 and coughed after being stuffy. Most ran 5. SA and Seuss were leading the way. Hacksaw got an early start as he often does. Freight and Mayor are hardcore road bikers now and they seem happy about that. Oompa is getting over the crud but still getting after it. Mr. Garvey is making it look easy. Nice work young man! I chased Blart but never caught him. Gold Digger was taking it slow and easy after logging a lot of miles the day before. It was a good morning!

Q Source was on Exhortation which is defined as “Encouragement on steroids.” and my favorite part of the lesson on this was the last part.
“Can you name a man in your life who is an Exhorter who exists outside of a celluloid fantasy? If you can, you are lucky. If you can’t, maybe its high time you became that kind of man yourself. They are in short supply.”

Without ALL of us F3 guys being Exhorters, F3 will not grow or even remain the same. It will go away. Push yourself to be that “Encourager on Steroids” to every man in the gloom and the many who haven’t realized they need to be there too!

Last Monday at Neverland

Not as in the last, last but last Monday.   A strong turnout to start the week and the last week before the crumb snatchers return to school.   All led to a joyous occasion, where Gastone and Whoopee, unaware of who had the Q jumped at the chance.   YHC had it covered and was quick to say thanks, but no thanks.

Last Chance 2.0 Workout of 2019

Well gents,

It’s been a great summer and we have had a lot of fun at these workouts.  Today was filled with a lot of fun moments and finished us up right.  The first was when Sargento and Edison showed up without the 2.0s and joined us.  Edison got back in the car, I heard to go get his kids, but we never saw him again.  The Yank was also visited by a guy new to the area named RaRa, who appeared to have a great time and was always smiling.

It looked like rain was on the horizon, but we had a good turnout despite it.  Time started and Doodles move us to the concrete pad for the warmup.  After a few exercises to get loose, he donned the half pipe. Dads would count off as ones and twos and ones would go up the grass hill while the twos would do and exercise.  When ones would return, the twos would go to the stairs.  Dads would switch and hit the stairs and grass every other turn.  It didn’t take long for mumble chatter out of the 2.0s.  Then Doodles moved us up to the top of the track and split us up and half the group ran one direction and the others ran opposite.  That took us to Norwood.

Norwood had set up some baseballs. The first thing was dads would tag the 2.0s (they were supposed to stay within the baseballs – that didn’t happen).  Once tagged, kids did an exercise.  After all kids were tagged, switch and the kids tag the dads.  We did a handful of rounds.  Then it was relay time.  A dad bear crawls to the bats (25 yards away) with a kid on their back and runs back after getting to the bat.  Next relay was the dizzy bat race where you ran to the bats and spun five times and ran back.  I AM GLAD THERE IS NO FOOTAGE OF THIS. YHC got laid out around spin three.  Four and five were tough and I couldn’t make a straight line back to the group.  The same could be said for Sister Act and Roscoe.

Sister Act had something in mind to show the 2.0s what we really do.  He decided to run a triple nickel with burpees up top and then bear crawl around the fountain (quickly omahad to Bobby Hurleys at the back of the fountain.  Funny thing heard was when his 2.0s said their hands hurt during the bear crawl, SA promptly replied “well I have gloves on”.

That wrapped it up and we named an FNG and closed it out and had some Gatorade and fig bars.

I want to thank all of the dads for coming out this summer to support and especially the dads who took the leads.

Last Week of Freedom Q

In a week of back-to-school prep, it was great to take a break and lead this group of HIM’S! We kept it moving. Thanks, Milburn, for the push on Route 66 uphill! Thanks everyone for your strong work!

GasHouse/PainLab Switchero

YHC and Linus had been trying to come up with ways to keep GasHouse and PainLab new and interesting. One such idea was happened today…

All the “hype” was the site Q’s were taking today – you know plain vanilla stuff. Instead, YHC and Linus decided to switch Q’s unannounced to the PAX until execution. Linus did the disclaimer (since there was an FNG), pledge and the warmup, but then announced “He didn’t feel like running today” and asked YHC to take them running. And off we took. Apparently, there was a bit of confusion as some the PainLabbers initially took off too, but that was quickly rectified. 8 PAX joined YHC as we headed to Grier Parking Lot.

Udders was asked for an exercise – Burpees (and this was after a warning to choose wisely).
So it was rotating bear crawls across the parking lot, 15 Burpees, lunge back.

Outhouse – same question…. Imperial Walkers.
Rotating bear crawls across the parking lot, 15 IWs, lunge back.

Wolverine – CDDs
Rotating bear crawls across the parking lot, 15 CDDs, lunge back.

During the above, YHC inquired if the PAX knew what today was. Once we got past the obvious, they hit upon the answer – the start of college football. Next question, how many teams in the ACC. Udders was ready for that one… 15, but only 14 for football. The significance of that will be seen shortly.

All of sudden, there was TopHat. He claimed to still be stretching for his late arrival, bringing the total to 10 at GasHouse.

We continued on to Burtonwood and then down to the stairs behind FPC.

Next was to partner up and do 150 each of the following exercises to spell out YHC favorite team:

CDD
LBC
Elbow to Knee (75 Each Side)
Merkin/Morrocan Night Club (75 Each)
Squat
Outlaw (modified to 140)
Nolan Ryan (75 Each Side)

There was some chatter about UNC, NC State, and where was the “P” in Clemson, blah, blah, blah. Let’s get to work.

Once everyone was done, did a quick count off. Still had 10 PAX, no one had been lost.

Repeated the count off, amazingly it still came to 10, so time to mosey to the Grier track.

15 Squats
Mosey 1/2 Lap
15 Dirty Dogs each leg.
Mosey to start.

Dirt and TopHat got to choose the next round…
So a repeat with 15 Diamond Merkins at the start and 15 Imperial Walkers at the 1/2 point.

Now it was time to head to the wall…
Assume the People’s Chair the first PAX would do 15 Overhead Claps, when he was done the second, on down until all had PAX had done them. If you were not doing the claps, do air presses.

Up the stairs and out to the entrance to Grier. Line up and do 15 Monkey Humpers with your back to the street.

Somewhere in here, Udders asked if we would get the other 0.3 miles in.

Not wanting to disappoint, mosey back to Burtonwood and then back to the Schiele.

Still had a few minutes left, so a little Mary…
Hayzus – Merkins IC
Dirt – Freddie Mercury and Mercury Freddie IC
Defib – Mountain Climbers IC

Thankfully the bells of freedom rang.

Linus lead us the rest of the way…

It was an honor to lead GasHouse. Everyone pushed hard and I appreciate it

Great to see PAX from other regions pushing the rock when out of town.

Watts Up powering down.

Don’t Try This at Home

So YHC had the bright idea of running 10 miles and then Q Gashouse. Nope, won’t do that again… Here’s what happened.

Warm-Up

Goofballs IC

Flutterkicks IC

Something else…

Mosey to the front of the Schiele to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Thang

Next, the 11 PAX would perform the Bataan Death March heading in a southeasterly direction down the road. Last man in line drops for 5 burpees then makes his way to the front of the line.

By the time YHC stopped the group we were in front of the old orthopedic hospital on New Hope. Conveniently there was a nice hill beside the sidewalk, a perfect opportunity to do the Bernie Sanders. Nur up the hill. Makes a lot of sense just like Bernie’s ideas. Some past weasel shakers disapproved of this exercise noting that the grass was still damp and a little too high. This was the first sandy V sighting.

At the top of the hill we did the Butkus which is 60 seconds of steps ups onto the curb. It wasn’t very hard so we did two more rounds of it just to make sure we got our fill. Confirmed, this exercise doesn’t need to be done again.

Next the PAX got to enjoy the thrill of 11’s. On one side of the parking lot do Hand Release Merkins, on the other side do Tiger Squats, making sure your butt touches the curb. The problem with said curb is that it’s a little short and on a decline which made this already tough exercise even harder. You’re welcome.

Fellowship mosey down the way a bit to the parking lot cul-de-sac. Here we paired up and did the Dora 123. Partner one ran to the bottom and back while numero dos did the exercise. 100 WW1 situps, 200 CDDs, 300 LBCs. Fun.

Mosey back to the Schiele, of course doing the Bataan Death March back. We stopped in Parkwood’s lot to let the 6 catch up. While waiting we started Bring Sally Up. It’s fun too. Keep moseying.

Once we got back we did some stuff I don’t remember because I’ve waited a week to do the BB. My bad.

Thank you men for allowing me to Q, also to site Q Linus for asking. Next time I’ll bring the heat!!!

Skeleton Crew

YHC was told on Tuesday that Thursday may be a small turn out due to T200 meeting happening that evening.  Turnout was small, but two HIMs (Medicine Woman and Tater Hole) posted anyway.  Nice job men! YHC moving a little slow (slower than normal) due to some back pain, caused an Omaha of the planned weinke.

Warm up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Cotton pickers, all IC 10X.  Tater Hole coming in hot, nightclubs until he joins.

Short mosey to parking lot with island for partner Dora, 100 merkins, 200 squat, 300 LBC. Partner does lap around the island.  Mosey to big soccer field for five corner escalators around the filed.  10 merkins, next corner for 10 merkins and 20 squats, next corner for merkins, squats, and 30 LBC.  Next corner all that plus 40 SSH.  Finally, all previous and 50 American Hammers.  Nice work.

Mosey to turd shack for one of YHC favorites, suspension merkins, these are really difficult, great ab exercise.  Feet about one foot high on wall and do merkins.  Really have to engage the core to stay on the wall.  Start at one end and PAX run a lap.

Mosey back toward flag, but stop off at one of the fields for 10 step ups each leg, 10 dips, 10 derkins, run a lap around the island.  Rinse repeat for 15.  Back to flag for Mary.  Blart calls Nolan Ryans. YHC happened to think that two HIMs had the meeting that everyone else used as  a “reason” to no show, so we did pledge and called time.

YHC reminded of Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of need”

Pledge

Players Ball: A 90s Hip Hop Throwback With Montross

I haven’t posted Downtown in quite a while. Bedpan is a regular at Folsom and always picking up the Q so I wanted to ‘return the favor’ and finally got around to signing up. I had a big IT project at work go live last week so I actually thought of this as a bit of a celebration. Earlier this week, I brought “Montross’s Nursery Rhymes” to Midoriyama. It was true F3 silliness, but also quite a workout! I wanted to bring that same workout intensity to Downtown and represent my Folsom brothers well, but decided to go with a no-nonsense, ‘layin’ the wood’ approach.

I had a little Alan Jackson playing pre-workout for Whoopee. Like Whoopee, I am also a conniseur of good classic country music. I mean, of course I am, I live in Dallas! That being said, I grew up in BC and I grew up on 90s Hip Hop. Switch to the playlist! Players Ball by Outkast is bangin’ as we kick this thing off!

Warmup:

Grass Pickers – 10 IC

150 Merkins
200 Big Boys
250 Squats

Mosey back toward the Rotary Pavillion and we stopped in the park/alley where the fountain is for some circuits.

Prayer requests: Dryrub’s mother in law’s health. Breaker’s mom, Mrs Hamm and her family. J2K’s mom, Gump’s student traveling and trying out for Irish Lacrosse team, students and teachers (and parents). YHC took us out in prayer. Announcements: 2.0 workout Saturday at the Yank, other AOs open as usual. Soldier Suicide 5k 9/21 (Speed 4 Need), JJ5k 9/28, Stair Climb 9/14, BRR Ruck 9/5, HIPAA invades Shipwreck on 9/11 (let’s take some HIMs down there)

Moleskin: I led 2 bootcamps this week at AOs I attend from time to time, but they are still out of my comfort zone. I felt the push to bring it and I feel like I gave it all I had. For those that don’t Q or just haven’t yet because you are not comfortable, just do it. If you want a co-Q to make it a little easier, ask someone or ask me. I will join you! I am proof you don’t have to be the strongest or fastest to give the guys a good workout! If that was the case, we would have the same 4-5 guys Qing every workout!
