Midoriyama 12/5/23

It’s December, so that means Christmas is around the corner. To get the guys in the Christmas spirit, YHC led the obligatory 12 days of Christmas workout. It was a beautiful night at Midoriyama. We saw enough deer running amuck that Santa could pull his sleigh through the triad region (Lowell, Ranlo and Smyre) on dry ground with no problem at all.

We performed a quick warmup and moseyed to the parking lot on the other side of the turd shack. Q forgot the pledge, (BIG Q fail) but we got it at the end of the workout. Once we got there, Santa Q had written the 12 days of Christmas on the asphalt for all the PAX to see. We formed a semi circle around the instructions and got to work. It went like this:

  • 1 – 8 Count Bodybuilder
  • 2 – Hand Release Merkins
  • 3 – Reverse Crunches
  • 4 – CDD’s
  • 5 – Burpees
  • 6 – Big Boys
  • 7 – Low Slow Squats
  • 8 – Werkins
  • 9 – Leg Lifts
  • 10 – Mike Tysons (a lot of protests on this one)
  • 11 – LBC’s IC
  • 12 – SSH IC

A certain grinchy PAX complained due to the “jacked up” exercises called and lack of music while performing the workout. YHC doesn’t believe this was a Q fail, just lack of Christmas spirit on behalf of the Grinch.

We had enough time to perform some dirty 11’s. Exercises called were Tiger Squats and Perfect Form Merkins (with a Burpee in the middle).

Back to the flag with just a few seconds remaining, so YHC called time. We got the Pledge in and got the COT.

Everybodaay Yeeaahhh

10 total for my return to Midoriyama. The planters is feeling pretty good but I may go back on IR until spring….I hate the cold!

Warmup:

Some stuff to get warmed up

The Thang:

Grab a block and hit the road. Starting at one of the light poles we did 10 block swings, ran without the block to the next pole, did 10
Freddy Mercury’s counting 1 side, ran back to the block, rifled carried the block up to the next pole, and started again working our way down the street to the end. Once at the end we turned around and started going back doing 5 thrusters and 5 hand release merkins. Those thrusters and rifle carries really started to suck on the way back!

Naked Moleskin:

It felt good to be back. In the past it has driven me crazy anytime I couldn’t post. For some reason this go round not as much. I often pondered if F3 had run it’s course for me. Why wasn’t I missing it as much. To be honest I think after a hard summer of training I just needed a break and some rest. Being back out there I realized how much I had missed it and all the PAX. Stay hard MFer’s!

Midoriyama 11/21/23

A rainy, cold evening at Midoriyama. Of course Slaw has the Q. YHC figured one maybe two PAX would post but we had 5 total. Staying under the picnic shelter, we performed the “moist millenium”. YHC knew we would stay moving the whole time and get a good total body workout.

10 rounds of 10 exercises. 10 reps per exercise.

  • Merkins
  • Squats
  • Big Boys
  • Derkins
  • Calf Raises
  • Leg Lifts
  • CDD’s
  • LBC’s (IC)
  • Dips
  • Mountain Climbers (IC)

We got through 9 rounds when time was called. After the COT, the 1t F Q asked “anyone else want to finish that last round?”.  All PAX  returned to the picnic shelter and finished the last round for 1000 reps. Outstanding work, men!

MIdoriyama Movie Lines

10 strong Pax showed up for the first gloomy Midoriyama Q after the time switch. Various excuses were made from some no shows; hate to see it. Blart noticed three deer walking from the softball field to the horseshoe pits but they didn’t stay for the work.

Warmup: SSH, Low Slows, Monkey Humpers for tardy Montross, Hillbillies and MNC’s.

Mosey to the distant left side parking lot for…

crowd favorite Dirty Mac Deuce: 12 Reps, Arms, Legs, Core

Set #1 Werkins, Low Slows, Flutters x 12 IC, run a lap around the lower parking lot.

Set #2 Burpees 12 OYO (as promised in the warmup, but no Slaw), Monkey Humpers, Freddie Mercs x 12 IC, run a lap.

Set #3 MNC’s, Mountain Climbers, Big Boys x 12 IC, run a lap.

Set #4 CDD’s, Calf Raises, Dying Cockroaches x 12 IC called by Broke so I could catch my breath, run a lap.

Set #5 Diamond Merkins, Lunges, LBFC’s x 12 IC, run a lap.

Stay here for the next Thang.

Partner Up.

P1 runs across the parking lot for 10 Merkins at the sidewalk while P2 begins 100 Squats then switch.

200 Flutter Kicks (count right leg)

300 LBC’s

Mosey back for some Mary and a couple of Wojo stretches. Thanks Wojo.

Throughout the workout I would read a line from a few of my favorite movies and ask everyone to guess the movie. This didn’t go very well as most of these kids haven’t seen any movies made before 2010.

Some of my favorite movie lines.

“A real woman could stop you from drinking.” “It’d have to be a real big woman”. – from Arthur (I could’ve done 25 lines from this movie. Seems Defib may be the only one who remembers).

“The average Russkie, son, don’t take a dump without a plan” – from The Hunt for Red October

“Do or do not, there is no try”. – Star Wars

“A man who doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man” – Godfather

“Can you fly this plane and land it?” “Surely you can’t be serious.” “I am serious and don’t call me Shirley.” – Airplane

“You tell ’em I’m coming and hells coming with me” – Tombstone

“Do me this favor. I won’t forget it. Ask your friends in the neighborhood about me. They’ll tell you I know how to return a favor.” – Godfather 2

“It’s a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.” – Unforgiven

and one I forgot to read… “You’re not the man I knew ten years ago.” “It’s not the years honey, it’s the mileage.” – Raiders of the Lost Ark

Thanks to all who posted, Great to see Blart back while still going through the dreaded Plantar’s pain. Great to see Suess, Wiki and Radar back in the afternoon.

Midoriyama 10/31/23

Well, it’s Halloween, it rained earlier and the temps have dropped 30 degrees in less than 24 hours. YHC figured he’d be alone today. Four faithful guys posted along with YHC and we put some work in.

Warmup: SSH, Grass Pickers, L/R stretch, R/L stretch.

Mosey to small practice field for Dirty Blackjack. 20 H/R Merkins, 1 Big Boy on the other side. Stop and do a burpee (or whatever you want to do) at mid-field in both directions.  Just like 11s just more reps. 210 reps to be exact. There were numerous slanderous words hurled at the Q during the workout. This took 39 minutes of the time. VERY slow mosey (a.k.a. WALK) back to the flag to prevent the PAX from falling apart or pitching a hissy.

2 minutes of Mary at the flag to finish.

Midoriyama 10/12/2023

Beautiful day for a workout at the region’s premier afternoon AO. YHC decided to utilize a workout with coupons since we haven’t used them much lately. After a quick warm up (seal jacks, grass pickers and some stretches), we grab the coupons and head to the parking lot on the other side of the turd shack.

Thang:

8 exercises were prescribed – Merkins, Curls, Tricep Extensions, Overhead Press, Block Swings, Block Bench Presses, WW1’s, and Squats.

  • 10 Reps of each exercise then run 4 laps around the parking lot
  • 20 Reps of each exercise then run 3 laps around the parking lot
  • 30 Reps of each exercise then run 2 laps around the parking lot
  • 40 Reps of each exercise then run 1 lap around the parking lot

This took up the whole workout. Mamma’s Boy led the way with everyone else struggling to keep up. This was an arm and shoulder smoker. YHC knew it was an effective workout when a couple of PAX began throwing slanderous insults towards the Q. Something along the lines of “the Q’s shoulders being shaped like the pyramids of Giza but the ears look like Pharon put a couple of Direct TV satellite dishes on top of the pyramid”. Pretty impressive! What’s more impressive is the hecklers were 2 former Nantans!! You truly hate to see it! We put the coupons back and pledged it up back at the flag.

Announcements:

Hill Climbing at Midoriyama

A perfectly warm afternoon at the greatest afternoon AO anywhere and a slight crowd of 5 showed up to put in some work. Pockets had to work so I picked up the Q so it was going to be a simple one.

Pledge
Warmup: SSH, Cotton Pickers, Hillbillies, Low Slow Squats, MNC’s
Mosey down the road through the woods and to the picnic shelter where we find a nice couple sitting at the back table and a large dog who was not happy to see us.
The Thang:
10 Derkins
10 Step Ups
10 Dips
10 LBC’s
10 CDD’s
10 Reverse Crunches then
Run down the hill to the pier and return and do this 5 times.
Freight led the way despite his foot giving him some problems. Wojo passed me pretty quickly too but we all got in some tough work. One time I was asking which number we were on and the couple sitting at the back table said “That was three”. Dang, I had two more to go. That dog really wanted to join the hill run.

We mosey back through the woods and stop at the extra asphalt beside the road for a few AB exercises.
10 WW1’s
10 American Hammers
10 Flutter Kicks
10 Freddie Mercuries (Get on your bikes and ride)
10 LBC’s
1 Minute Plank
Repeat this doing 5 reps of each AB exercise and repeating the 1 minute Plank. Planking a minute is tough. The world record plank time is over 9 hours but I found a minute is plenty for me.

Mosey back to the flag and time is up.

Announcements:
Relay Trail Run on 11/18/2023. There is a sign-up form on Slack.
JJ5K is Saturday and is a nice local race we have supported for a few years now.

Huck
Jackson Hall and his family

Oompa Loompa took us out.

*NMM Calling all F3 Pax to give the afternoon AO a try. It is always a tough workout and the candor and mumblechatter are top notch. I know how easy it is to give in to the busyness and the laziness but I am always glad that I posted at Midoriyama. Thanks to all the guys who showed.
