Strong work followed by a reading of the Declaration of Independence

It never fails. I learn something new every time I post for QSource. Whether I’m leading or just a participant, there’s always something I take away that I didn’t know before.
Over the last couple years, I’ve become a different person, and I owe a lot of it to the men that show up to Coconut Horse every week and have invested in me. Thanks for your commitment and loyalty and for clearing the thick stuff and sharing your lessons.
Speaking of commitment, it’s what we talked about today. Turns out, the roots of loyalty run deeper the closer your get to the center of the Concentrica.
Mission First, Men Always means that we’ve got a job to do, but the leader is to make sure that the men are best equipped to handle the mission, and also watch our for their well-being, while at the same time not sacrificing the mission. It’s fully logical and paradoxical at the same time.
Finally, a SC is not a commitment. It’s an opportunity to find an excuse. Either HC or don’t C at all. Roscoe put it best, saying that if it’s not a “Yes”, than it’s a “Hell No”.
Grateful for another opportunity to lead.

- Bear Crawl across the bridge
Once there, we spent some time teeing up some nonsense that looked better on paper and the overhead on Google Maps, but we did it anyways.

YHC hadn’t done pull-ups at a workout in over a year, and had no idea how many he could do, so the “if you can’t do it, don’t Q it” rule was in place and we only did 2 to be on the safe side. Bouquet did a bunch, and most of us (YHC included) did more than 2 pull-ups at that station.
The goat was to repeat this 7 times. We got through 4. It sucked, but only on our forearms, because strategic fencing kept us from accessing the lush grassy areas on either side of the fence for our Mahktar Ndiayes.
Returned right in time for the clock to turn.
Announcements were made.
Prayers were requested.
It was another day in the Gloom for a group of strong and solid PAX to keep pushing the rock a little further up the road than it was the day before.
Glad to have the opportunity to lead

It was a perfect morning to get in some work! It only takes two to make it happen. Spiderman and I chose to take advantage of this cool fall-like morning.
It will be short and sweet. Circuit of exercises R&R and mossy around the parking lot.
We did kicked off with Heels to Heaven, baby makers, flutter kicks, Superman pushups, reverse crunches, starfish crunch, merkins, curls, overhead press, sumo squats and shadow boxing.
We moseyed around the parking lot in between sets.
We welcomed an FNG, “Fallout” in the gloom today. Fallout lives in Belmont, and is involved in youth ministry for high schoolers, He also knows a lot about hunting, fishing, and apparently about nuclear stuff, too.
Pink Floyd brought him out to the Gloom. It sounded like Floyd will be trimming up Fallout’s mullet at the barber shop later. (but only a side-trim to keep it lookin’ good, not a full de-mulletting, so that it can still fly in the wind)
WARMUP

It seems like counting has been somewhat troublesome for some PAX lately. Whether it’s counting light posts going down the road or keeping up with rounds during 11’s, math can be hard. We’d put our counting skills to the test this morning.
YHC arrived on a Monday morning at The Sandlot ready to get to work. A good crowd as usual was ready to go at 0530 so let’s get started.
Warm-up
SSH IC x 12
As we moved into Merkin position, Roscoe asked if there a reason we did 12. YHC didn’t really have a reason for that particular number so there was an awkward silence. Roscoe said it must be because it was the 12th. He also noted that it was his anniversary. The 24th to be exact. Numbers, everywhere numbers.
Merkins IC x 12 (which is really 24 merkins, one for each year of marital bliss for Roscoe and Mrs. Roscoe)
LBCs IC x 12
Imperial Walks x 12
The Pledge
Let’s mosey. Stopped at the parking lot behind the CaroMont Health building down from Snoball’s. Let’s test those counting skills with a round of 11’s.
10 Mike Tyson’s on the lower side of the parking lot. 1 Jump Squat on the upper side.
Back and forth until we got to 1 Mike Tyson and 10 Jump Squats.
Let’s mosey. Stopped at the base of Gaston’s Hill. Now let’s see if we can count the number of mail boxes up and down the hill. Based on YHC’s Back to School Q at The Labyrinth a month ago, there should be 27 if you count the full loop. At each mailbox, 1 burpee.
After that lap, time to mosey again. Through the Dollar General parking lot to the corner of the Food Lion parking lot. Time for some 4 Core-ners.
1st corner – 10 Crunchy Frogs
2nd corner – 10 Crunchy Frogs and 20 Dying Cockroaches
3rd corner – 10 Crunchy Frogs and 20 Dying Cockroaches and 30 LBCs
4th corner – 10 Crunchy Frogs and 20 Dying Cockroaches and 30 LBCs and 40 Flutter Kicks
As we started at the first corner, I believe someone said we should have done 12. Q fail. Would have been a great opportunity to test our ability to count by 12’s. Let’s reverse and try it again.
1st corner – 12 Crunchy Frogs
2nd corner – 12 Crunchy Frogs and 24 Dying Cockroaches
3rd corner – 12 Crunchy Frogs and 24 Dying Cockroaches and 36 LBCs
4th corner – 12 Crunchy Frogs and 24 Dying Cockroaches and 36 LBCs and 48 Flutter Kicks
Mosey back to Snoball’s.
We got back in time to do a minute worth of Mary.

I was doing my planning on 9/11 and was inspired to do a 9/11 themed work out. I found a great one that was heavy on the legs in honor of the men and women that climbed all the stairs of the world trade center buildings. Not that we could ever compare to those folks we can honor them.
Warm Up: SSH, Imperial Walkers, Lap around the parking lot
Thing: 100 step ups, 100 merkins, 100 step ups, 50 squats/50 lunges, 100 steps, 50 squats/50 lunges, 100 steps, 34 mike tysons (400 steps to represent the 22 flights the first responders climbed, 334 exercises for those first responders that lost their lives.)
Some time left over so we took turns calling out core exercises.

Warmup:
Sealjacks, stretches, Don Q’s, merkins
Grab a block and head to the light pole at the road.

pole 1-5 blockees
pole 2-10 thrusters
pole 3-15 swings
pole 4-20 standing chest presses. Mayor cheated himself due to a disagreement of the name. Hate to see it!
pole 5-25 alpos
pole 6-30 rows
pole 7-35 curls
After Slaw finally decided to join us(sandbagging) we moseyed over to the small field and partnered up. Below is what we did each pax switching to make a round

-P1 does sealjacks, P2 farmer carries one block over and back
-P1 does mtn climbers, P2 farmer carries one block over and back
-P1 does 5 burpees, runs over and planks, P2 does murder bunnies across
Back on the road starting at the 7th light pole P1 runs to the next pole and back while P2 farmer carries the blocks. Switch and keep doing this until we get back to the 1st pole.
After we put up the blocks we did a round of iron hulks, howling monkeys and ring of fire I think? I was just making stuff up at this point to finish out the day.

YHC read John 13:12-18 which is Jesus talking about servant leadership just after he has washed the disciples feet. Jesus is my standard and if he can wash feet why am I not serving others more? What are you doing to serve?
