Count Your Blessings

5 Pax showed for a Thanksgiving week Monday to log a few miles and hear a verse for the week. Slaw and Wichita took off running like they were being chased. The Mayor and I are both on the injured list right now so we took a stroll through downtown Dallas. Big Pappy joined us for the final part of this AO where all three F’s are guaranteed!
Verse for the week.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Notice that after prayer and thankfulness, comes peace and that only God can give. We talked about loved ones we knew who demonstrated that peace through difficult times. We also listed many things we were thankful for. Life, health, strength, family, friends, electricity, food, water, ice, vehicles, shelter, our freedom, our country and on and on it went but we ran out of time. Thanks to the Pax who showed.

The Sword – 11/16/20

The Sword is a special challenge to Q. As a running AO, there is no weinke to plan, but I always feel more pressure than a regular AO. This is 3rd F…the truly important stuff! Like many things in life, I like to keep my eyes open for a sign or other “clues” as to what is the “right” verse to share (not unlike the story I told Tool time and Sarrlac Saturday morning). While perusing Facebook this weekend and navigating the political/election posts and pics of everyone’s life highlights, I saw this cool pic that immediately caught my attention. 2 Corinthians 7:14 appiles to our country now more than ever! I knew this was the one!

Before the discussing the verse, I had a great mosey with Purple Haze. My running is pretty bad right now and I appreciate Haze hanging out with the six! Better late than never, Sparky joined us around 6 a.m. for the message.

Prayer requests: Sparky’s injury, parents and co-worker, Wichita’s parents, Purple Haze, Montross, Sargento’s prayer list. YHC took us out in prayer.

Faith Without Works

5 HIM’s got in some work and more importantly the Word.

November is National Adoption month and this past Sunday was orphan Sunday. In the US, there is ~425,000 children in foster care annually.  ~17,000 children in North Carolina.

As of Today, there are 2,861 children in North Carolina in foster care awaiting adoption.  Most will never be adopted and will “age out” of the system.

Recently, Tool Time put out an opportunity to serve at Children’s Hope Alliance in Troutman. Please sign up and serve. This organization serves many of these ~17000 children in NC. A simple day of work goes a long way in support of their mission.

Here is a the link to sign up.

Our Verse for the week:

James 2:14-17 ESV
What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? [15] If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, [16] and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? [17] So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Psalm 139:13-14 ESV
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. [14] I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Love Reconciles

5 PAX posted in the 30’s for some running at the Sword this morning. Sparky was late but who am I telling you knew.

We discussed John 17:20-22. Jesus is praying for all of us to become one with God. What I wanted to point out is he is praying for all of us not just Republicans or Democrats, Americans or Iranians, White people or Black. All of us. We need to remember, especially now,  to act in a  way that helps to reconcile people to God not alienate them. We like to put labels on groups and join them. The only group that matters is God’s children.

The Harvest is Plentiful…

It was a damp morning for The Sword but 5 HIMs showed for the gloom.  Good run though a little on the humid side.  We met back at the parking lot for the verse… a repeat of the previous day’s Q-source (Sua Sponte Leader).

LUKE 10:2
HE TOLD THEM, “THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL, BUT
THE WORKERS ARE FEW. ASK THE LORD OF THE
HARVEST, THEREFORE, TO SEND OUT WORKERS
INTO HIS HARVEST FIELD.”

Live Right

Due to Site Q obligations at Mt. Hollywood, YHC doesn’t make it to The Sword very often but this AO is a great way to start off the week. Sparky was kind enough to give me the last minute Q and 7 PAX came out to get in a run and follow up with some discussion on how to live.

1 John 2:15-17 – “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”

John is warning us in this verse against stumbling over the temptations of the world and letting them take over our lives. When we continually stumble or struggle with something like envy or materialistic wants and desires we begin to let those thoughts and actions control our lives. Little by little, we concern ourselves more with the ways of the world than with the will of God and move farther and farther away from living the life he calls us to live. When we do this we are living for the world and not living for God.

I’m Broke

Mark: 1, 16-20

Sparky had reached out to the pax asking for a Q at the Sword. I gladly to the opportunity.
We talked about how Jesus walked the bank of Galilee, calling the future disciples to follow him.
These men simply dropped there nets and followed Jesus.

We also ran some too.

Sharpen Up November Challenge

Most men in life are in the middle of the bell curve  unless we choose to be be better than that.  If you believe you are one of those guys in the middle, then this is especially for you.    I am talking to the guys that post a couple days  a week and call it good.  The guys who are passively involved in one or two F’s.  The one’s who don’t avail themselves to all the items on the F3 Menu.  The ones who won’t do a CSAUP or Q a workout regularly.  The ones who don’t lives their lives intentionally and “oversleep” instead of making a decision to wake up and get after it.  This challenge is to push that bell curve to the right.

I have heard some clamoring among the Gashouse PAX for a challenge along the lines of the 40 day challenge so here it is.

No excuses!

VISION:  In November you are going to challenge yourself to a few required physical tasks as well as maintaining standards to increase your acceleration.

This challenge can be modified based on your fitness level but make sure you make it happen.

ARTICULATION:

1st F Requirements:

100 Miles combined run/ruck miles for the month to include:

-At least one ten-mile run and…

-At least one 12-mile ruck

-Or…one combined run/ruck of 15 miles

One Murph workout

Combined total of at least 25 workouts (30 minutes minimum, CSAUP’s count as 1)

Hydrate and take in protein after each workout.

Dietary Guidelines:

No Soda

No Fast Food

No sweets

No chips

More water

More salads, vegetables, and lean meats

No alcohol* (except at Bottom’s Up, F3 Gastonia’s only standing 2nd F event.  Limit yourself to two drinks (Moderation in all things, including moderation))

Cheat meals must be EARNED!   (with the exception of Thanksgiving.  Thanksgiving is a cheat day)

Seven workouts in a week earns you a cheat meal.

Going to Q-Source on Sunday morning earns a cheat meal.

If you have never been to a Q-Source session and go to your first one, you get an additional Cheat meal.

Persuasion:  Don’t be weak.  If you aren’t strong, you’re wrong.  That is it.  Make a shared Google Doc with your Shieldlock to track your mileage.  Journal your posts using Notes on your phone or some other method.  Post on Slack to update on your progress #accountability

YHC encourages Site-Q’s to schedule a long run or Ruck or Murph sometime during the month.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.  Otherwise, commit now to the challenge and quit making excuses.  Covid 2020 has been a real challenge  but we can continue to improve.  Prepare for this challenge now so you are ready.    The challenge begins with a ten miler at the Coconut Horse on November 1st, followed by Q-Source.  I am sure my friends in NOGA will make a similar option available.

EXHORTATION:  Quit being soft,

Roscoe

Rejoice not over me, O my enemy

It was a great morning at the Sword. We learned to increase our circle of caring and that with good beards comes great responsibility.

Our verse this week is:

Micah 7:8  Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.

Sword/ 2 Corinthians 9:7

I pulled to Ingles around 515, I wanted to take off a little early. I ran by myself, this gave me some good alone time to spend with the Lord in prayer, i don’t always take advantage of those situations! While I was out running, I got the chance to say good morning to my friend pizza man as I passed his house. I got back to the truck about 5 minutes till 6, I waited a little bit, no pax showed this morning. I’m figuring everyone was tired from the weekend, if anyone understands, I do!

The scripture for this week is 2 Corinthians 9:7- Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

We should be “cheerful givers”, God loves a cheerful giver!

For us to be truly cheerful givers, or hearts have to be right with Christ! Knowing and excepting the ultimate gift the he has given, himself!

I prayed for all of you guys this morning, hope y’all have a good week!
