Prime Suspects?

7 men pushed the rock at Mt. Hollywood this morning.  Beautiful morning, time to put in some work!!  We were delayed for a few moments as an officer with the Mt. Holly police department pulled into the parking lot.  Apparently the alarm was going off at the middle school, and we were the prime suspects.  There was some discussion about an all out prison break run, just to see what would happen.  We better get the workout started, before the officer ask too many questions, especially with the  questionable character of some of the  pax in attendance.

Warm-Up:

10 Burpees, short disclaimer with something about me being an idiot, 10 more Burpees.

The Thang:

Mosey to the parking lot of the South State Bank on S. Main St.  If the alarm goes off at the bank, we may be in trouble.  Exercise called here is one of my favorites, BLIMPS!  We would do our best to stick together on this and push each other to the end.  This exercise went like this:

10 Burpees, Run a lap around the bank

10 Burpees, 15 LBCS, Run a lap

10 Burpees, 15 LBCs, 20 Imperial Walker Squats, Run a lap

10 Burpees, 15 LBCs, 20 IW Squats, 25 Merkins, Run a lap

10 Burpees, 15 LBCs, 20 IW Squats, 25 Merkins, 30 Plank Jacks, Run a lap

10 Burpees, 15 LBCs, 20 IW Squats, 25 Merkins, 30 Plank Jacks, 35 Smurf Jacks, Run a lap

Good work on that men, way to push it out.  Next we take a short mosey to the wall behind BB&T.  Our second stop at one of the local banks.   I promise we were not casing the joint for an after hours return trip.  We had some time to spare, so let’s get in some 11’s.  The exercises called were Hip Slappers and Bobby Hurley’s.  Start with 10 Hip Slappers, run to other side of parking lot for 1 Bobby Hurley.  9 Hip Slappers and 2 Bobby Hurley’s.  You know the drill, continue until we finish with 1 Hip Slapper and 10 Bobby Hurley’s.

Next with time running out, lets start our mosey back towards the flag.  We took the long route down W Central Ave and stopped at the wall in front of Ida Rankin.   Here we did 3 different exercises:

10 Dips (IC)

10 Derkins

10 Burpees

We would do 2 rounds of these 3 sets of exercises.  Good work men, way to push through until the end.  Mosey back to the flag.

Where are you going?

The  weather was perfect this morning and 11 HIM’s (including 1 FNG) took advantage of it and started the work week off right by getting out of the fartsack and putting in some work at Mt. Hollywood. A disclaimer was given, the Pledge was recited and after a quick warmup we headed off to get after it.

Mosey down to the bus lot at Rankin Elementary for some Dirty MacDeuce. 4 sets of 3 exercises x12 IC followed by a lap around the bus lot.

Set 1 – Merkins, Squats, LBC’s

Set 2 – Diamond Merkins, Calf raises, Freddie Mercury’s

Set 3 – Werkins, Step back lunges, Mahktar N’Diayes

Set 4 – CDD’s, Imperial Walkers, Plank Jacks

Out the front entrance of Rankin and downtown to the BB&T lot for some partner work. Partner’s start in the middle of the lot with 10 Booyah Merkins. One partner runs to the wall and does 10 Dirty Hookups and the other partner runs in the opposite direction to the curb for 10 WWI’s. Meet back in the middle for 9 Booyah Merkins, swap ends and do 9 reps of the other exercises. Repeato all the way down to 1.

Mosey back to the start, grab two bricks and head to the front of the school for the following:

5 Man Makers

10 Dips

15 Squat Thrusters

20 American Hammers

25 Flutter kicks (bricks over chest)

20 American Hammers

15 Squat Thrusters

10 Dips

5 Man Makers

Still some time left, so up against the wall for a BTTW / Hip Slapper competition. Hold BTTW and do Hip Slappers on Q’s command. You’re out when your feet hit the ground, do LBC’s until the last man falls. Virus hung in there a while, but Blart prevailed as the champion. Time’s up.

Thanks to Sargento and MAYOR for picking up the six today!

Where are you going?

Are you stuck in a rut and not making any progress? Take a moment today to step back and take a look at your life to consider the following two questions.

  1. Is life happening to you, or are you directing it?
  2. Do your daily routines have a purpose and objective?

Don’t let life happen, act with careful thought, manage your life and choose wise goals that can be attained with careful discipline.

New Season

04/15/2019 Mt. Hollywood
Tiger reached out needing a Q for Mt. Hollywood on tax day so I resisted the fartsack and jumped on it. I needed the push to get the week started right. I thought numbers might be low but as time got closer, 10 circled up for Warmup, make that 11 as Freon sneaks in quiet like. Let’s go.
SSH x 15 IC
Cotton Pickers x 15 IC
Hillbillies x 15 IC
Goofballs x 15 IC
Pledge
Mosey down Catawba Street behind the First Presbyterian church to the small parking for some BLIMPS.
Burpees x 5 OYO, Mosey to the far corner near the road. Watch that form Sister Act!
Lunges x 10 each leg. Tesla questioned the intelligence of anyone who has to move forward walking to do lunges. He may have been talking to me. Mosey to the top of the big parking lot.
Imperial Walkers x 15 IC, short mosey to the top of the parking lot near the building.
Merkins x 20 single count, mosey down the parking.
Plank Jacks x 25 IC, mosey back around the building to the top of the small parking lot.
Squats x 30 IC, short mosey back to the small parking lot spot where we started. Take a count.
Run a lap around that same parking lot area.
Repeat the BLIMPS same as before. Take another lap.
Mosey to the white wall behind BB&T.
Rugby Sprints
On your six for Flutter kicks until I say Sprint, sprint forward to the curb, sprint back to the wall then walk back to the curb.
Merkins, sprint. SSH, sprint. Time to head back so we took the longer way back up Central to the benches near the school.
80 D’s
20 Dips IC, 20 Dollies IC, 20 Dyeing Cockroaches IC, 20 Derkins IC, yes IC. Mosey back to the flag.
My word for today was about it being a new season. Over 1/4 of the way through the year is a great time to assess where you are in your 3F’s. Think about what you wanted to accomplish and see if you are on track. I have to say I have more work to do in several areas and will push to get there. Spring offers a new season with flowers blooming and grass growing and it is a time to remind us to start new. The guys in F3 will definitely help you get there if you are striving.

COT
*NMM Thanks to all the guys who showed up this morning from the War Baby, Get A Grip to the War Daddy, Tesla and all those in between. I had around 2.15 miles on my watch and plenty of reps this morning. Great to see Stroganoff for his first workout at Mt. Hollywood (I believe I heard him say that). Broke, Seuss and Sister Act post everywhere all the time but it’s always great to see them. Great to see Blart out early as his schedule has changed. Doodles has really been consistently posting and I am sure he is ready for his VQ next week. Virus was leading the way on most of the runs as he usually does and Freon runs up, crushes the workout and runs back home. It was a pleasure to lead this morning. Have a great week and remember the significance of this week and what this Sunday represents!

We Bombed

April 1st and I was curious as to how many fools would actually show. There was chatter of a possible FNG coming with one of the Fake Rucksack Club regulars, but I guess this was also fake since neither showed. However, 6 eager PAX posted on a somewhat chilly start to April ready to work.

After the pledge and my typical warmup of SSH’s, Don Q’s and Moroccan Nightclubs we took a short mosey downtown to the BB&T to get started with the workout. Due to the local favorites all bombing in the NCAA tourney, I figured we might as well join in on the action and do some BOMB’s ourselves. It went like this:

Partner up and while one partner runs a lap around the bank the other performs the following until the total cumulative reps are reached:

Burpee’s x50

Overhead Claps x100

Merkins x150

Big Boy Sit Up’s x200

Squats x250

After this we headed over to the parking lot at Vasilio’s for a few rounds of Route 66

Round 1 – Bear crawl and Merkins

Round 2 – Lunge walk and Jump Squat

Round 3 – Broad jump Burpee’s

Back to the start for 6 minutes of Mary and we’re done.

Moleskin / COT

Proverbs 24:10 – “If you faint in the day of adversity your strength is small.”

If you are fearful and discouraged by every trial and affliction that you face you will have no strength and in time become your own worst enemy. Let your faith in God be greater than your fear of any enemy and trust in Him to guide you through the adversity you face.

Tiger called out the PAX to be in prayer for this week and will post them later today. Pray for each of these men and their families this week and reach out to them if you can.

The numbers at Mt. Hollywood have been a little down the past few weeks. If you haven’t posted here, give it a try. It’s a great way to get your week started!

It was a pleasure to lead.

#DanceDad

6  men showed at Mt. Hollywood this morning to put in some work.  This is  my first Q at this AO, so I was excited with this opportunity to bring a workout to these guys.  Being a father to three daughters, definitely brings its challenges.  One of the challenges takes place during this time of the year each year.  That would be cheer and dance competition time.  As a lot of you were out in the rain either posting or participating in the CSAUP 50 Mile Relay Run this past weekend, I was stuck inside an auditorium for two straight days at a dance competition.   Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoy watching my daughters on the stage.  But once you factor in the girl drama, parent drama, stress, and the amount of time spent inside, there is only so much you can take.  With that said, I was looking forward to bringing the pain come Monday morning.  So to answer your question Tiger, no dance shoes needed today.

Warm-up:

Grass Pickers, Hillbillies

The Thang:

Mosey to the street beside the elementary school.  First excercise called is some Route 66 on the street.  Excercise used is the Imperial Squat Walker.  Start at first telephone pole and do 11 Imperial Squat Walkers.  Then sprint or 3/4 speed 2 telephone poles and Nur back 1.  Then do 10 ISW.  Sprint 2 telephone poles, Nur back 1, 9 ISW.  Sprint 2 telephone poles, Nur back 1, 8 ISW.  Continue this until you finish with 1 ISW.

Next let’s mosey to the driveway area beside the elementary school used for bus drop off.  Exercise called here is some 4 corner escalators.  First corner start with 10 Burpees.  Mosey to second corner for 10 Burpees, 20 Merkins.  Mosey to third corner and do 10 Burpees, 20 Merkins, 30 Mountain Climbers.  Mosey to last corner and do 10 Burpees, 20 Merkins, 30 Mountain Climbers, 40 Sumo Squats.  I was going to run this back down, but had to call an Omaha on that one.

Fellowship mosey to the covered area and do an exercise called Jacked Up.  Here you do 5 different exercises with no rest in between.  50 SSH, 40 Seal Jacks, 30 Plank Jacks, 20 Crossover Jacks, 10 Smurf Jacks.

Next we got in some ab work at the same area.  Same principle, 5 exercises with no rest in between.  25 LBCs, 25 Flutter Kicks, 25 Dying Cockroaches, 25 American Hammers, 25 Big Boys.

Mosey to the small wall on the same street where we did the Route 66 work earlier.  Called Lindsay’s here with Dips and Merkins.  30 Dips & 10 Merkins. 25 Dips & 15 Merkins. Continue this until you finish with 10 Dips & 30 Merkins.  Mosey towards flag.

Come Down that Mountain

The clock hit 5:30 and there was a heavy mist in the air.  I had a weinke ready to go, and a deck of cards as a “just in case” backup.

Warmarama:

  • Side Straddle Hops, 15 IC  –  2 merkins
  • Imperial Walkers, 16 IC  –  4 merkins
  • Moroccan Nightclub, 20 IC  –  6 merkins
  • Don Quixotes, 15 IC  –  8 merkins

Thang:

The mist seemed to be letting up so I tossed the deck of cards aside and we set out on a mosey down Catawba, left on Oakland, left again on W. Central and there on our left is our favorite wall by Ida Rankin Elementary School…  can’t pass it by without a little work:

  • 5 incline merkins and 5 derkins
  • 10 incline merkins and 10 derkins
  • 15 incline merkins and 15 derkins

Mist had picked up a bit so let’s mosey over to the covered walkway for some 11’s:

  • American Hammers & Lunges  (Q kept trying to do American Hammers at both ends…)

It seems the mist has let up again, so it is time for some four corners. We were to run around the parking lot and do the following exercises:

  • 1st corner – Merkins
  • 2nd corner – Squats
  • 3rd corner – LBCs
  • 4th corner – Mountain Climbers  –  do SSHs while waiting on the six

First round… give me 5 reps… next round 10, then 15 and then 20
Q decided to run his mouth a bit here… in Matthew we find the Sermon on the Mount where we get the Beatitudes and a lot of what were called “hard sayins” when I was growing up. But he had to come back down that mountain and so do we… so back down we went with our four corners… 15 reps, 10 reps and 5 reps.

The clock was ticking, so time to mosey on back to the middle school. When we got to the school the Q had to run his mouth just a little more… see, as Jesus was wrapping up these hard sayins, he left us with this in Matthew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” The key phrase for me is “put them into practice.” Many hear, few put it into practice. The HIMs of F3 inspire me every day as I see them putting their fitness, their fellowship and their faith into practice! I encourage you to go read Matthew 7:24-27 to get the whole story.

We said the Pledge.

Ended with COT!

I hope we all went away just a little better…

COT/BOM

Tiger announced last week that Mt. Hollywood was committing to pray for the Gastonia region PAX throughout the year. As you are doing this, think about why it is important to pray for others. Two reasons that come to mind are:

IT HELPS

James 5:15 – “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective”.

WE ARE CALLED TO DO SO

1 Timothy 2:1 – “First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people”.

If you feel led to do so, reach out to those you are praying for each week and see if there are any specific things you can pray for. Sometimes all a person needs to lift their spirits is to know that they aren’t alone and someone else is thinking about and praying for them.

Just wing it

YHC did indeed order a Mount Hollywood shirt so of course in order to earn the right to wear it, one must Q the site. I took Tiger up on his offer to Q an open slot in the cool month of December. Never posting before at this AO I wasn’t really sure what to do or where to go. All I’ve been hearing is “it’s dark”. This being said and me not doing any surveillance of the area prior to my Q, I decided to wing it for my first time ever. I did wear my wrist Q so I had plenty of items on there I could incorporate into the workout once I came upon the appropriate spots in town. Arrived at the site a little early. 1st one there. Slaw roles in then Sister Act who decides to blind me with his high beams. I guess he was letting me know he was there after I called him out on GroupMe the night before. He was complaining Sunday night about his Sandy V, I mean legs, due to running 12 miles at Crossroads that morning. So I challenged the new 1st F and he showed, now that’s leadership! Tesla let me know we’d have an FNG, he was present. Everyone else finally arrived and we began.
