GD Abs

YHC was a little banged up from the weekend, as he usually is…don’t worry about it…so he decided to show off his 8 pack and call 1500 reps worth of Dora, aka Cora. Then just to make everybody shut up about how stupid that was, YHC called for Colorado suicides (gotta hold your breath like you’re a mile high, or something like that). This was more torturous for some than others. And that was about it.

Pray for SA’s family…and then leave him to go workout with Frank at Gashouse on Saturday.

Until next time,

GD

We Bombed

Proverbs 24:10 – “If you faint in the day of adversity your strength is small”.

A simple verse, but one that carries a powerful meaning. If you are fearful and discouraged by every trial and affliction that you face you will have no strength and in time become your own worst enemy. Let your faith in God be greater than your fear of any enemy and trust in him to guide you through the adversity you face.

Prayers for SA’s 2.1, Clavin’s M, Gold Digger and his family, our Nation and the Police.

It’s All About the Hair

9 PAX came out to Hollywood as YHC substituted for Goldigger who is out of town. But, no worries, he’ll be back strong to Q at the Goat this week.

Much discussion around hair today: Pillager beat Sargento for “Best Bedhead”; Slaw crossing state lines today for cut; Tesla will do the same tomorrow, hoping his barber shows; Broke told me prior that he thought he would just keep his beard; Freon and SA, both neat and trim; Gump, we’re just glad you’re here, otherwise he kept his hair hidden; Dirt still looks like Spencer Tracy. YHC, well if it wouldn’t have been for a friend with a set of clippers, I considered-for two seconds- a trip to SA’s garage.

Now, down to business:

Hollywood is Open!!

It seems like we’ve been away from Mt. Hollywood forever, but evidently it hasn’t been long enough for them to do something about the condition of the parking lot. I guess since there’s no school, there’s no need for some decent pavement. Regardless, 7 PAX met in the gloom on this morning to put in some work. Disclaimer, pledge and warmup were completed and then we got to work. It went something like this:

Start at the front of the school and perform the following escalator work OYO:

10IC Dirty Hookups

Run a lap

10IC Dirty Hookups, 20 Dips

Run a lap

10IC Dirty Hookups, 20 Dips, 30 Merkins

Run a lap

10IC Dirty Hookups, 20 Dips, 30 Merkins, 40 LBC’s

Run a lap

10IC Dirty Hookups, 20 Dips, 30 Merkins, 40 LBC’s, 50 Flutter Kicks

Run a lap

This was so much fun that we ran it back starting at the top.

Still time for about 10 minutes of ab work and 5 minutes of stretching to close it out.

YHC had a verse for this morning, but we ended up taking some time to catch up, discuss current situations and whether or not anyone knew of any needs within the region. Keep your eyes and ears open for any needs as you resume posting and reconnecting with PAX you haven’t seen for a while. F3 is more than a workout!

Dr. Seuss took us out.

I’m Broke

Good Morning Mt Hollywood!

It has been a while since YHC has posted at Mt Hollywood, let alone Q there. Broke was looking for Qs, so YHC decided to take him up on the offer and make self get up on a Monday morning. After several miles of running the Rooster, having to get up at 4am on a Saturday morning and then another early morning Sunday to get 6 miles @ the Coconut Horse, YHC is tired and wanted to keep any running to a minimum. So what should the Wienke consist of? Got it, it will be an easy/light workout. 🙂

It’s 5:30 am and YHC pulls in the parking lot, several people already there. This looks like a good turn out, but then 2 more cars show up, Virus and then Tiger, with Orangeman and Shell Shock rolling out of car just in time to get started. Total of 12 PAX including YHC, not bad for a Monday morning.

Disclaimer – brief since no FNGs. We all know what to expect.

Warm-up

  • Hillbillies x 20 I/C
  • Don Qs x 20 I/C
  • Toy Soldiers x 12 I/C
  • Stretches
  • Burpees x 10 OYO

Legs and Arms – PAX didn’t like the side lunges, or should I call them Denise’s?

  • 25 squats with overhead presses
  • 25 side lunges right side w/ arm raises
  • 25 squats w/overhead presses
  • 25 side lunges left side w/arm raises

Also during these exercises, SA and Slaw were dancing around like ballet dancers! These two were like little kids back and forth with each other throughout the workout….Both are in YHC’s van for the P200, so that is going to be a very interesting adventure!

50 SSH

Lap around parking lot

Chest

  • 25 merkins
  • 25 chest flies (I/c)
  • 25 merkin

  • 25 American Hammer (I/c)
  • 25 flutter kicks (I/c)

During this round of exercises, there was a funky smell lingering, which actually happened throughout the workout, but this was pretty bad. Someone didn’t eat very well on Sunday! YHC got messed up on cadence and count, so we probably only did like 10-12 American Hammers the second time. Oh well!

Bible Verse

1 John 4:19-21

We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

We are not perfect, but we all need to love each other like God has commanded us to do. It doesn’t matter what your religion, race, political view, gender view or whatever, we are all called to love each other like we love God. If everyone followed this verse, can you imagine what this country, or even world would be like? This is an area YHC really needs to work on because I am far from loving some brothers and sister like God commands me to….I pray that we all can be better at loving all brothers and sisters. We may not agree with everything someone says or the way they live, but we need to respect them, love them, and pray for them and ourselves.

Thank you men for allowing me to lead this morning. As always, it is an honor.

Breaker Breaker

My neck, my back…my neck and my back!

So YHC had the bright idea to Q several workouts in a short timeline before a planned IR spell. Seemed great on paper, right. Note to self…make sure you’re in proper shape before trying to keep up with the bat flippers.

This morning I woke up with an unfortunate crick in my neck that was just a pain…in my neck. And my back too. Guess this getting old thing is real. Only answer is to keep pushing the rock as much as possible. With that said, let’s do this.

The PAX was waiting on my and although not late I cut it close once again. No worries, all is ready.

No FNGs. No disclaimer. No warmup. Let’s mosey!

We didn’t get far around the corner before YHC noticed the library which seemed to have a better parking lot than that God forsaken piece of asphalt at the middle school.

It’s time for 11’s! On one side Dips, mosey to the other side for WW1 Sit Ups (I think). Bear crawl back to the other side and repeato until the numbers are swapped.

Mosey down the dark street to Main Street. We found a flag and paused for the Pledge of Allegiance.

Route 66 is next up. We did Bobby Hurley’s at each place a car could enter. To get to the sufficient number of reps in we had to cross the railroad tracks into uncharted territory headed north. Apparently this are a of Mount Holly carries a pretty significant amount of traffic at 5:45 on a Monday and the intersection, while provided with crossing signals, is pretty hairy. We practiced safety first this time and all made it across in one piece. YHC made sure of this by calling for a count off after we stopped (this was the first count off, Q fail).

Mosey around the back of the big church to the parking lot in front of the garden. Here we did Four Corners Escalator.

  • Corner 1 – 10 Merkins
  • Corner 2 – 10 Merkins + 20 Squats
  • Corner 3 – 10 Merkins + 20 Squats + 30 Flutterkicks
  • Corner 4 – 10 Merkins + 20 Squats + 30 Flutterkicks + 40 Mountain Climbers

We did two rounds of this and then took time for a photo opp in front of the beautiful painting of the sun beside the garden. Gotta stop and smell the roses sometimes fellas.

Mosey back through traffic to the elementary school for a wrap up of some Mary. I think we got in 4 different choices by the PAX before we had to get back to the middle school. Time

Plenty of prayer requests that may be obsolete by now. The Lord knows our needs and he is good to provide.

Same for announcements. Many of the same, lots of running coming up and the convergence on the 21st.

Thank you for the opportunity to lead men. Keep pushing that rock!

10 Count

Broke was asking for Qs, especially from PAX who normally don’t frequent Mt. Hollywood. YHC, having only ever been there once, signed up. YHC was having trouble with where to go, what to-do, but came up with a plan.

For the record, don’t plan on using Catawba Avenue. It’s a bit too heavily traveled, even in the gloom of morn. Lesson learned.

Any-who…

0530 hits and 6 have joined YHC in the shadow of Mt. Holly Middle.

We knock the pledge and do a little warmup:
Goof Balls IC x 12
IW IC x 12
MNC IC x 12

Time to mosey – Hawthorne to Catawba to Second Baptist Church.

Ask Tiger for count off, he gives a 10 count. That works too, this time let’s do the count off.

Time for some work.
Escalating 4 corners
Corner 1:
10 Merkins

Corner 2:
10 Merkins
20 Mtn Climbers

Corner 3:
10 Merkins
20 Mtn Climbers
30 Reverse Crunches

Corner 4:
10 Merkins
20 Mtn Climbers
30 Reverse Crunches
40 Squats

Good work. Let’s go back in reverse.

Once all were assembled back at the beginning, requested Virus do a ten-count. Before Virus even uttered a sound, Tiger was counting off…!?! Sorry Virus, maybe next time.

Now let’s do a little Dora. Make groups of 3.
Pax 1 runs around the island.
Pax 2 planks
Pax 3 puts in the work.
Rotate in that order until all reps are put in.

100 Flying Squirrels
200 LBCs
300 Lunges
400 SSH

Everybody got after it, but the 400 SSH were dropped due to time. But before heading back, let’s all do 50 of them.

Somewhere in here, there was another 10 count, but YHC asked it of Tiger just because.

All survived the mosey back. As we rolled back in the parking lot, YHC glanced at his watch and saw we were just short of 2 miles at that point, so 2 laps around the parking lot!

That left just enough time for 3 rounds of Mary:
Plank Jacks
Peter Parkers
Bobby Hurleys

Time!

This morning’s verse comes from Matthew 22:36-39
“…which is the greatest commandment in the Law? And He said to him ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ ‘This is the foremost commandment.’ ‘The second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself’”

Not too much to add to that. This is “simple”, but it’s not easy.

Nothing new on the announcements side. Lots of events coming up, be sure to signup from something and put in the work.

Lots of hurting and healing in our community, we need to lift those people up.

Tiger took us out.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead today. I encourage all to get out to AOs you don’t frequent.

Watts Up powering down.

The Thang

Mosey down the street to the center of town and cross over railroad tracks
Ran around the buildings and to the back parking lot where we did Walls of Jericho: 7 different exercises and complete 7 reps of each and run one lap around the building. Complete for 7 laps.
The following were the called exercises:

Jumping Spider
Merkin with a bounce on the up (getting feet & hands off the ground)
E2k
Elbow to knee
Russian Twist
American Hammer, but I needed an “R”
Imperial Squat Walker
Cruel cousin of the Imperial Walker, squat between each elbow to knee
Crunchy Frog
a Dr. Seuss favorite, too bad he missed them
Happy Jacks
5 side straddle hops quickly followed by two jump squats
One-legged burpee
Not enough exercises start with “O”… this was a crowd pleaser

At some point during the rounds Broke noticed that in keeping with the theme of sevens, we had 7 PAX.
While the mumble-chatter was at a minimum, there was an attempt to skip one of the rounds, but Red Ribbon kept us honest.

Let’s start the mosey back towards the middle school. The Q checks the time and decides there is time for a little wall work.
5 Dips in cadence, 5 Derkins OYO
10 Dips in cadence, 10 Derkins OYO
15 Dips in cadence, 15 Derkins OYO

Continue our mosey back to middle school.
We cruise into the parking lot and we are done!
Great work put in by all.
