100% chance of burpees

18 men posted to what may be the hottest day of 2017.  the warning of burpees didn’t deter these beasts.  1730 hits, time to clock in.  5 fngs with us today so a proper disclaimer was given.  i’m not a professional, i’m an idiot and i’m about to prove it.  modify as needed, you against you. i’m merely giving suggestions.

warmup: chumbaburpee with a twist.  instead of ssh, we did imperial walkers and burpees.   mumble chatter started early…and pretty much lasted  the entire 45 minutes.  we’re warm, let’s mosey.

arrived at the backside of two fields for some circuit work.  35 seconds of work, brief rest.   the exercises were: x-situps, ssh, lbc, flutter kicks, (slaw hears a train, 5 burpees), merkins, mountain climbers, def leppards, lunges, dying cockroaches, overhead presses, Moroccan nightclubs…and burpees.

baatan death march to the not closest turd shack for 35 seconds of donkey kicks and ascending testicles with reps of 20, 10 and 5.

mosey back to the closest turd shack for 35 seconds of wall taps.

circle up for a few choices from the pax.   defib picked americans hammers x 35IC.  Edison picked flutter kicks x 35IC and def leppard with Appalachian americans x 35IC.

short mosey across the parking lot for the pledge.   burpee long-jump back across the packing lot where blart led mike Tysons x something IC.   closed with slaw leading us with 22 for the vets.  TIME.

COT: named the FNGs, announcements and prayer requests.  BOM: yhc closed us in prayer.

Moleskin: strong work from the  everyone today.  of course, this is not a surprise.   the midoryiama men are all beasts.  this past week marked my one year anniversary since joining F3.  i can’t really put into words what this has meant to me.   i sincerely thank everyone single person I’ve had the pleasure of posting with.  f3 has not only changed my life from a health standpoint, but in about every other place as well.  i started on March 19, 2016 weighing in at 362LBS.  I remember my first workout and had to stop running twice before we said the pledge.   as you all know, that’s a run of about 40-50 feet from the warmup spot to the road.   struggling doesn’t begin to describe it.  about 20 minutes into the workout i almost walked back to the truck and went home.   i thought this was not for me.   then, enter Rudolph.  BA has us partner up for block work and Rudolph was stuck with me.   he did about 98% of every called exercise.  it was at this point i found out one of f3’s biggest attributes, leave no man behind.   i can honestly say that without the encouragement from Rudolph, i would have left early, and most likely never returned.   but there was something about f3.  shieldlock is real.  there are countless others that have helped my path and i’m forever grateful for you all.

again, thank you all for the support, encouragement and sweat-equity.   i love you guys.

Second day of spring?? Ut oh…

Well it was only the second day of spring and the 10 HIMS that posted at Midoriyama got a taste of what’s to come during the summer.  I had the Q and informed the PAX last week that there was going to be a good bit of moseying due to the P200 this weekend.  With that being said, it went like this.

Warm-Up:

SSH x 20 IC

Don Q’s x 10 IC…heck with the warm-up let’s mosey.

The Thang:

In preparation of the P200 this weekend, I wanted to get one last little run in. The PAX  started moseying to newly constructed trail and continued throughout all of Midoriyama.  Along the way we did 5 burpees (humpees) at each speedbump and added in some exercises that were:

  • Merkins X 10 IC
  • LBC’s X 20 IC
  • Calf Raises X 10 each step
  • Incline Merkins X 10 IC
  • Flutters X 25 IC
  • Dips X 20 IC
  • LBFC’s (Crowd pleaser) X 15 SC
  • Pull-ups X 10
  • LBC’s X 25 IC
  • Dips X 50 SC
  • WWI’s X 10 IC
  • 22 for the VETS

After all was said and done, the PAX covered 2.6 miles, did 30 humpees and a good many exercises to help prevent runner/soccer arms.

Pledge of Allegiance

COT

Great work by the PAX today!!  Way to push and thanks for letting us get one more P200 training session in.  It is always a pleasure getting to lead a great group of HIMS that makes me a better man!!  Until next time Pizza Man is OOOOOUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!!!

This Better Be Good

I try to visit our lone PM workout at Midoriyama a few times a month. The boys started with a great core group and have done nothing but add quality in recent months. If you have not visited, you should adjust your work schedule to make an appearance. I can assure that you will be welcomed but you better be prepared as the mumble chatter is consistent if not constant. If you feel the sharp point of a barb, know that it’s a manly sign of affection. I’ve never been disappointed in a workout as the bar is set at a high level and the guys are always pushing and sometimes pulling each other along. So as a non-regular, Def Leppard asked me to guest Q which I gladly accepted the invitation veiled as a challenge. It went like this:

The last breath of winter has been hovering over Gastonia this week impacting attendance in the early gloom. In the pre-workout chatter, the boys shared they on Tuesday’s edition, they fought near hurricane winds that wouldn’t so much allow a bead of sweat to appear despite Freight’s beat-down. Twelve hours earlier, only the QIC’s attended our other three AO’s and props go to Tophat, JJ, and Huck for persevering the chilly gloom. The sun fought to warm the day to a pleasant 50 degrees, causing the PAX to de-winterize their gear even though Huck wore a shirt with sleeves. Sans FNG’s, a brief disclaimer was stated: “modify as you need.” Got the pledge in and started the warm-up announcing “Hillbillies”. As the PAX began performing the called exercise, YHC began performing Imperial Walkers. Five reps in, I was busted by the PAX ….what a way to begin. I had two choices: tuck and run or act like I really knew what I was doing…I chose the latter, trying to regain control of the crew. The first exercise went 10 IC before announcing Toy Soldiers – which we all performed with inconsistent precision for a cadence count of 10. A staple of each Midoriyama warm-up are Don Quxiote. If I didn’t do a set of those, I felt like a mutiny could occur and my guest Q would end before it barely started. We did 10 of those. Then Moroccan Night Clubs began as Billy Madison arrived to cap our PAX at 11. I quit the cadence to say we would continue until Billy joined the circle. Little did I know how long it took for him to primp and stretch to arrive like a kid making his way to the dentist office. Finally, Billy arrived when I announced the final warm-up: 5 burpees OYO. Let’s mosey.

Thang: I’m not running the P200 because I really hate to run. So the three stops I had planned were contained within a small space of Poston Park. I think this was readily accepted by most of the PAX until I hit them with the first segment: Walk the Plank. Everyone find a parking space to perform 7’s to begin with six Merkins, plank walk right to perform one plank-jack. Plank walk left to the parking line for five Merkins and so on, until the reps flip-flopped for a total of 25 reps of each. Keeping with the shoulder burn theme, the next part had us begin on the curb for six baby dips, crab-walking forward about four paces to perform one crab-cake (from crab position, balance core for left elbow to right knee then right elbow to left knee = 1 rep). Same process of decreasing/increasing reps (6 to 1, 1 to 6). A little mumble chatter ignited. We quickly dashed to the first soccer field on the right for a new routine which I have yet to name. The PAX lined across the end-line to perform a plank-thrust which is essentially a burpee without the push-up or the jump at the end. We would perform 5 plank-thrusts then sprint to the 18 yard line to get into plank position and wait out for the 30 second round to end. Once the timer buzzed, run back to the end-line and repeat. We did this for a total of 6 rounds. Onto the final segment of our workout.

We did a short fellowship mosey across the parking lot to a spot behind the concession stand where the coupon fairy had deposited a few items at various stations. I think this was virgin soil for the regular crew and Slaw was happy not to see many ant hills. A review of Freight’s backblast indicated 16 PAX were present for Tuesday. With improved conditions I built the workout around that number but quickly downsized for our fearless 11. I hammered ten wooden stakes in the ground with a card showing an exercise in a rough shape of a square. Had the numbers been even, we would have timed the rounds having two PAX sprint the perimeter and the exercise station would end once one PAX caught the other or three laps were completed, whichever ended first. The modification was to have one PAX be the “runner” and take three laps around while the others performed exercises. The benefit of the rounds being timed by a runner is we didn’t really stop (Gastone would be somewhat proud). The playlist included The Who, Van Halen, and AC/DC among others.

Round 1:

Blockee

LBC’s

Squat (w/ sand filled PVC pipe)

Dying Cockroach (w/ bricks)

Low Plank Burps

Low Plank Burps

Bobby Hurley (w/ 10 lb Med Ball)

Squat (w/ sand filled PVC pipe)

LBC’s

Blockee

Runner

Round 2:

Jack Webbs (w/ half block)

Flutter Kicks

WWI (w/ sand filled PVC pipe)

Crunchy Frog (w/ bricks)

Ski Burps

Ski Burps

Am Hammer (w/ 10 lb Med Ball)

WWI (w/ sand filled PVC pipe)

Flutter Kicks

Jack Webbs (w/ half block)

Runner

We ended four minutes ahead of schedule. So to make use of the time, QIC said pick the exercise you hated the most and do it again for about a minute. Huck and Freight said they hate to run, so they chased each other like two squirrels in an open field. Others found blocks, pvc, or bricks to lift. We went a couple of rounds before it was time to head back to the shovel flag as I wanted to be sure Mary’s dance card would be punched for the day. The ab work was to begin with a favorite: Baby Makers which was apparently was a new exercise to Swimmer but evidently something his fellow PAX were highly confident his form would be solid (practice makes perfect, at least for missionary style). Rather than count, I played the background music by Pornosonic to set the mood – though the speaker was not quite loud enough to be heard – still this one always generates mumble chatter and this today was no different. Sticking with the theme, I called for 10 Monkey Humpers. Just be glad the stopwatch was almost over and Pickle Pounders were not called. Instead I called for 22 Merkins to honor our Veterans, of which Oompa Loompa and Slaw have that distinction.

Announcements: Convergence at The Fighting Yank – Saturday 3/18. Should be a fun a wet one with rain in the forecast. Advisory Meeting will be Sunday at 7 pm. Freight will confirm destination – check your twitter for location. P200 next weekend (3/25-26), Burpee-thon, and Mud Run in the future.

Prayer Requests: Allen Tate’s family for their loss (visitation/funeral is Saturday), Floppy’s M’s Friend fighting cancer, Def Leppard’s M’s health, and there might be a few others I forgot to write down on my card. YHC took us out with a prayer.

Moleskin: I’ve not been very dedicated to the early morning gloom the past few weeks. In fact, this event is only my third official F3 post for March. I’ve been relegated to a video or self-prescribed routine in my garage, usually at night. Having the chance to Q brings internal motivation to prepare and plan but more importantly show up. If I were by myself in my garage doing Imperial Walkers instead of Hillbillies being on the list – no one would have called me out. Oddly that was one of the highlights for me. Busting guy’s chops is a form of acceptance. Payback was in my call for 5 burpees where I was joined with a chorus of groans. There is extra motivation in the presence of others, breaking a sweat and enjoying the day. Hopefully that met the high bar of Midoriyama and I’ll have a chance to lead again.

That’s how you do it

16 strong for a cold and blustery day at Midoriyama. I’ve got to be honest my weinke was not built for this big of a crowd(your welcome for that laugh)! Modify as needed right?

Warmup:

SSH x 20ic

5 Burpees OYO

Calf Raises x 20ic

5 Burpees OYO

Let’s mosey to the soccer field and dig the big tire out of the woods!

The Thang:

So we put the tire at the end of the field. We lined up in the plank position head to foot behind it in a single file line. The first PAX jumps up and flips it twice and runs to the back of the line. Then the next PAX does the same. The line follows the tire in a bear crawl until it is your turn to flip it. We did this to one end of the field and back. So basically everyone bearcrawled the length of the field and back stopping only to flip the tire when it was your turn.

Next we had to split the group. Group one did 11’s on the hill starting with 1 squat at the bottom and 10 WWI’s at the top. Going to the top you had to NUR. Group 2 did box jump burpees(box jump on to the bleachers/jump down into a burpee) until group 1 was done then we switched. I feel like everyone enjoyed this!

Mosey back, form groups of 3 and each group gets a cement block. PAX 1 does 10 blockees, PAX 2 does wall taps and PAX 3 wall sits. We rotated through this for the next 10-15 minutes. Everyone really likes blockees. I even heard a screech owl cheering for us around the corner of the building at one point.

Circle up for Merkin(merican whatever) ring of fire, Howling Monkeys(it was funny to see everyone’s form here but I think swimmer really showed us how it’s done) and a little Boat/Canoe to finish it off.

COT:

22 for the VETS

Prayer Request- Allen Tate’s family after his Grandfather passed earlier this week, Floppy’s wife’s friend passed, Def Leppard’s wife is doing better

Moleskin:

Thanks again for all of you coming out. The wind was stupid cold and I would not have done anything today if it was just up to me.

No basketball being played here.

I arrived an hour early so I fart sacked it in the truck while listening to the Duke Blue Devils put away another opponent. As I sat I noticed that it might be only me and Oompa for this one. With time getting close the PAX came screaming in from all directions. We figured the rest where at home watching the ACC. With that we started.

Thank you brothers for another good day of fellowship. Thank you all for your commitment. Aye!!!

Soccer Arms!!

14 HIMS posted for another Pizza Man delivery.  With all the P200 training and runners now in Gashouse, I want to make sure the PAX don’t get a case of the soccer arms.  With that being said, 17:30 hit and it was time to begin.  Brief disclaimer and here we go….

Warm-up:

SSH X 25 IC (well was suppose to be but we had some guys coming in hot so we continued until they joined)

Hillbilly squats X 10 IC

Don Quixotes X 10

Enough of the warm-up, lets mosey to the soccer field to have some fun!!

Workout:

Each corner of the soccer field the PAX completed two exercises then duck walked/lunged along the end lines and sprinted along the sidelines.  The exercises were:

Corner 1:

  • Merkins X 25 SC
  • LBC’s X 25

Corner 2:

  • Werkins X 25 SC
  • Flutter X 25 (50 SC)

Corner 3:

  • Military merkins  X 25 SC
  • Freddy Mercury X 25 (50 SC)

Corner 4:

  • Diamond merkins X 25 SC
  • LBFC’s X 25 *For those who don’t know, this is a crowd pleasure*

*Rinse and Repeat*

After corner work was done, the Q offered option 1 or option 2.  The only thing was I didn’t let anyone know what the options were.  So the PAX choose option 1.  Good choice!!  We need to train for the Burpeethon coming up on April 29th!!  With that being said, the PAX completed 8,9,10,11,12 burpees on every minute.  At the end of this the PAX did 50 burpees in 5 minutes.  Great work men!!

Now it was time for some fun!!  We numbered off for a little 7 vs. 7 soccer game, the only difference is the were no goalies and if your team gets scored on you complete 5 merkins.  It went as I thought it would with men playing sports.  At the end of the game Team 2 was the winner!!  Time to mosey back to the flag and Slaw lead  22 for the VETS.

COT– Pledge, Announcements, Prayer Request

Once again, I want to thank the 14 HIMS that showed for another Pizza Man delivery.  I am honored to lead a great group of men!!  Special thanks to Mastodon for the Streams in the Desert book, it really hits home!!  Until next delivery Pizza Man is OOOOUUUUUTTTTT!!!

For How Long?

With temps hitting the upper 70’s Thursday it was starting to feel like Midoriyama again. Last week we set a new record of 17 PAX to post in one day. Pizza Man put out the challenge to break it again and he was not disappointed. 18 deep for a beatdown.

Warmup:

SSH x 15ic

Don Q’s x 15ic

Morroccan Nightclubs x 15ic

Mosey to the soccer field. Since we had a few more pax a few carried a few extra blocks I brought just in case.

The Thang:

A few weeks ago Floppy brought back our old circuit training and I thought it would be a great day to do some more. I had 9 exercises to do for a length of time then 1 minute in between each round of something else(not rest). Most of the time it was sprint across the field or SSH. I never told anyone how long each round was and as many know it’s the not knowing that gets you. I was repeatedly asked “for how long” and Billy Madison kept trying to sneak a peek.

1)Bear Crawl to Merkin

2)Lunge Twist w/blocks

3)Weighted Situp

4)Curls

5)Single leg hip raise

6)Box Thruster

7)Plank Hop to Squat

8)Step ups while holding the block

Mosey back to the flag

9)Low Box Plank Stepper

Circle up-22 for the Vets

Pledge- Since I’m now coming in hot everyday I seem to have forgotten to put up the shovel flag so Slaw held it out for the pledge. Gracias Sir!

Moleskin:

Great work by all today. I’m so proud to be a part of this group and to call each of you brothers! Let’s keep growing and pushing the rock.

You never know….

Well it was a record setting night at Midoriyama.  17 HIMS posted for a special Pizza Man delivery.  17:30 hit so it was time for the delivery.  It was another Thursday so I wanted to use a throwback delivery with some added toppings.  It went like this:

Warm-up:

SSH X 20 IC

Don Quixotes X 20 IC

Seal Jacks X 20 IC

The Thang:

Now it was time for the delivery.  The PAX went on a mosey throughout Midoriyama and at each opening on the right we performed two exercises with 25 reps each. The exercises were:

  • Merkins/LBC’s
  • Incline merkins/Flutters
  • Squats at the big opening
  • Decline Merkins/WWI
  • Wide merkins/American Hammers

After this set we couldn’t pass up the playground for some pull-ups.  While doing pull-ups someone noticed a train horn.  WHAT?  Train horn?  Well, everyone in Gashouse knows that means 5 burpees.  So the Q yelled Omaha and we did 5 burpees.  We then continued our mosey to the next openings for:

  • Diamond merkins/LBFC’s
  • CDD’s/Dying cockroaches

Continued the mosey to the picnic shelter after a count off to hear that record 17 number again.  At the shelter we performed:

  • Dips/Freddy Mercury’s

*Along the way there are four speed bumps which now are called “Burpee Bumps” thanks to Slaw.  At each Burpee Bump the PAX did 5 burpees.*

On the way back the Q went for a detour to slider hill.  The PAX ran down and up the hill then performed 1 burpee at the top, then 2, then 3, then 4, and finally 5.  Great work men!!

Fellowship mosey/mosey to the steps for calf raises.  These are not my favorite so it’s something I need more of.  We completed 5 calf raises on each step.

45 minutes complete.  Now time to mosey back to the flag for 22 merkins for the vets.

Theme of the workout: You never know what tomorrow begins so make the best of each day!!

With that being said, 15 years ago to the day my life suddenly changed.  I can honestly say that it was the worst day of my life.  Some people know but I lost my sister in a car accident.  Everyday was tough because I caught myself always asking why her and not somebody else?  After time of thinking and sole searching I asked myself, Is this the Christian way?  After that I started realizing that each of us are on this earth for a purpose and that God has a reason behind everything.  Now I honestly say that live everyday to the fullest and truly cherish every moment with friends and family I can.  You never know what tomorrow brings!!  I want to say thank you to my F3 brothers for posting to help me through this tough day.  Once again, you see God’s work because nobody knew what this day meant to me but yet 17 HIMS posted to set a record at Midoriyama.  GOD IS GOOD!!!

Isaiah 41:10– So do not fear, I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your GOD.  I will strengthen you and help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to lead a great group of men!! Until the next delivery Pizza Man is OOOUUUUUTTTTTT!!

Praise report for Freights M getting a new job.

As we kneelt to pray I reminded the men of the story Jesus told of The Prodigal Son. As the son returned home his father RAN to him and hugged him and kissed him without question. With some things going on in my life, Valentines Day reminds me that no matter what has happened, the LORD loves us all without question. Is there someone in your life that needs your love more than a lecture. If so don’t put it off. Tell them you love them and the LORD will take care of the rest.

Thank you men for showing up and pushing me to be my best.
