Burpees at Dusk

Big crowd at Lowell’s finest AO, so YHC had to step up his game. Quick warmorama, then off to the soccer fields for escalators and de-escalators with burpees, LBCs, squats, merkins, and then another round later with more burpees, flutters, lunges, and hand release merkins. In between, there was a triple nickel, a Route 66, and some more fun to be had. Warmorama in reverse brings the total burpee count for the workout to 180. Not bad for 45 minutes.

Now you might be thinking this is a lot of stuff to cram into a bootcamp, and you would be correct. You might also know the pace GD tries to keep up, which would keep everyone’s heat rate pretty high on a cool evening, and you would also be correct. But if you thought this would keep Freight from sustaining 45 minutes of straight mumblechatter, you would be incorrect. YHC believes the only thing stronger than Slaw’s neck is Freight’s jaw.

Tireflippers

12 posted at Midoriyama on Thursday. Good crowd for a Thursday. Thursdays have been down a little lately. I was really excited to see Huckleberry post since he lost a bet to Pockets.  Oh wait….nevermind.

The Warmup:

Mosey to the soccer field. While SA lead the warmup exercises Slaw and I dug two tires out of the woods.

The Thang:

Partner up. P1 does burpee box jumps on the bleachers while P2 NURs up the hill. Do 5 rounds.

Split into 2 teams. 1 person starts flipping the tire around the field while everyone else runs a lap. When someone gets around they take over flipping. Keep doing this until you get the tire back to the starting position. It was noted upon completion that one tire was a little heavier than the other.

Time for some ab work.

We got back in our teams for tire flip sprints. Same as before except down the field and back. Some concept. We swapped tires to make a it fair.

Time for some more ab work.

Tire flip sprints again and we swapped tires again.

That’s about time so we put up the tires and moseyed back to the flag.

6:15 done right on time…..you know who I’m talking too.

COT:

Moleskin:

It was duly noted the push I saw out there today. Everyone was pushing to get around the field to flip those tires! One of the batflippers seemed to be off his game a little but I think it’s due to malnourishment.

I talked a little about sharing the gospel and how we should all just pick one person and share it with them. Think about the impact that could make. Don’t wait! tomorrow could be too late

Birthday Shoes

11 strong men circled up for an afternoon Midoriyama workout with perfect weather! I was wearing my birthday shoes which are some sweet Optical White Avia Velcro Mall Walkers which I was recently gifted after the Tuna 200. My guys are so thoughtful! I just turned 55 on the 28th so let’s get started before I get any older!

Warmup: SSH x 10, Cotton Pickers x 10, Hillbillies x 10, Moroccan Night Clubs x 20.

Pledge to the American flag in Broke’s truck.

Mosey to the small soccer field
I borrowed this from F3 Pittsburgh called Sharknado.
20 Burpees, Lap around the soccer field
20 Diamond Merkins IC (yes, in cadence), Lap
20 WWII Sit Up (single count), Lap
20 Merkins IC (yes, In cadence), Lap
20 Scorpion Dry Docks IC, Lap
Rinse and Repeat (Yes I said Repeat)
Most were through with their second set when I called time on that. Dr. Seuss and Sister Act were leading the way on that one.

Slow mosey to the blocks in the woods. Some got half-blocks. Some got paver blocks. Some got 2 bricks. Slaw got a 45 lb. iron bar!
Curls x 55 with Sister Act calling. He had on his muscle shirt for all to see the pythons! It looked like he may have also been a bit cold! I suggest band aids for protection and I believe Freight will agree with me on this!
On your six for Chest Presses x 55 called by Slaw. I’m sure he wanted to take off his shirt but we were on the itchy grass!
Triceps Extensions x 55 called by Tater Hole who is sneaky strong and very young!
Another round of Curls x 55 and that’s about all the block work I can do!
I talked about the 55 reps we did as representing a year of my life and how the years go by so quickly so make each one count. Even if you feel like you don’t have a big area of influence, influence the ones you are around in a positive way!

Mosey to the playground.
3 pull-ups, 10 LBC’s, 15 CDD’s for 3 sets!
Time was running short so I changed to pullups to 3 instead of the usual 5. You’re welcome! (It may have been because I could only do 3).

Mosey back to the start.

Announcements: Rotary Pavilion Chili Cook-off Fundraiser, Sargento has tickets and several of our guys are entered.

Prayer requests, Broke’s Sister-in-law and my friend Jimmy. Prayer by Stroganoff. Thank you sir!

*NMM Strong group today as usual. There was some discussion about me going to Q school as I did favor the shoulder work today more than usual. It can be tricky coming up with a Weinke that works for all of the manly men of Midoriyama but this one seemed to give everyone enough. Great to see Sargento and Stroganoff out in the afternoon gloom! The new shoes seemed to work ok but were much too clean for Midoriyama. I’ll be saving those for special trips to Jackson’s cafeteria around 4:00 p.m. with Oompa and Seuss!

Keep pushing the rock men .

Also keep spreading the word lots of men are just waiting on the opportunity. All we have to do is just give it away….💪💪💪💪💪

Playing with Bricks

Perfect weather for an afternoon workout and 9 PAX decided it would be a good idea to get in some work. We warmed up with some SSH’s and Imperial Walkers while we waited on Tiger to unleash the cubs so they could prowl the park. 5 Burpee’s on his arrival and then the Pledge.

Everyone grab two bricks and mosey to the parking lot for some ALARM’s. PAX perform 100 rep’s of each exercise then make a lap around the lot with bricks in hand.

Arms – Overhead press

Legs – Squats

Abs – Flutter kicks with bricks over chest (count one side)

exercise – Randy’s (count one side)

exercise – Mountain climbers (count one side)

Leave the bricks and mosey to the end of the lot. Start on one side and bear crawl across the lot stopping at each parking stripe for 1 HR Merkin. Lunge walk back with a Burpee at each stripe.

Head back to the bricks and circle up for a Ring of Fire. PAX perform Moroccan Night Clubs while one man drops and does 10 Merkins. Continue around the circle until all have done exercise.

Gotta get in a little running so keep the bricks and head down the road stopping at each light pole for 10 American Hammers. Make a loop around the lots at the end of the road and stop at the same poles for 5 Big Boy’s on the way back to the flag.

We had time for a little Mary which consisted of Merkins, Jump Squats and some kind of Hillbilly Imperial Squat OYO Mall Walker’s IC that Def Leppard called to finish us out.

QvQ

The Sarge needed a fill-in Q, so YHC and Freight stepped up around the same time ish and ended up having to split duties. As anyone who is acquainted with Freight knows, he enjoys making a competition of everything, but the truth of the matter is, it’s hard to compete against someone who doesn’t play the game. And also, guess who’s writing the backblast…

We all did an assortment of tortuous exercises that made us stronger (we think).

Freight gave a word about hills and valleys, burdens and companionship, all of which tied into the workout nicely. Not to say that he won or anything. Show to know.

Until next time,

GD

A Countdown to Suicides

YHC pulled in at Midoriyama a little early to get some cones set up and low and behold there’s HUCKLEBERRY! No better place to kick off a 40 day challenge than the AO most famous for mumble chatter, whining, heat and of course the JV style workouts. PAX continue to roll in and when 17:30 hits we’ve got a total of 13 seasoned professionals ready to put in some work. After the short version of the disclaimer and the pledge, we skip the warmup and head out.

Mosey to the small soccer field and circle up for a countdown. Four exercises, all done IC, starting with 10 reps and working all the way down to 1. We did these quick with no rest between exercises and it definitely got the blood flowing. Exercises were SSH’s, Merkins, LBC’s and Low Slow Squats.

Next up was a “modified” version of Rugby Sprints. PAX perform called core exercises until YHC says go, then run a suicide to the cones set up across the field. Instead of the normal walking to cool down, run a lap around the entire field. Three rounds of this with Flutter kicks, American Hammer’s and Rosalita’s. This routine gassed everyone pretty good, so YHC decided this would be a good time for a little talk.

The Q Source discussion last week was on Candor and how a virtuous leader is not only willing to tell others the hard truth, but is willing to hear it. After leaving Q Source YHC started to think about something else…What does it mean to be candid with ourselves? Is our perception of ourselves accurate, or is it some kind of story that is running through our heads? Take some time this week to step back and take an honest look at yourself and determine what you need to do to make yourself better. Now back to our regular scheduled programming…

More suicides!!! Run to first cone, do 5 reps of called exercise, then back to the start for a burpee. Run to the second cone, do 10 reps, then back for a burpee. Continue with 15 reps at third and 20 reps at far cone. Two rounds total, HR Merkins and Big Boy’s.

Back to the flag for 6 minutes of Mary and we’re done.

Pavilion Chili Cookoff Pre-Blast

Bathrooms coming soon to the Pavilion!

The Rotary Centennial Pavilion has been home to the F3 Downtown workout since July of 2015, a few short months after the F3 Gastonia launch.  E4 was the original site Q before he handed it off to the elusive Spiderman who then turned over the reins to Bedpan.  By my calculations, F3 has posted over 200 Friday workouts at the Pavilion besides running through the site during our three 50 mile relays.

The big cheese, Sargento, happens to be the Nantan of the Gastonia Rotary Club this year.  Both Gastonia Rotary Clubs are raising money to install public bathrooms at the Pavilion soon.  Bathrooms would be a great thing for downtown as well as for any F3 PAX who routinely run late to the workout due to those “emergencies”.  (you know who you are)

To raise money for the bathrooms, the Gastonia Rotary Club is hosting a Chili Cook Off on November 2nd of this year.  I am aware that you should probably have bathrooms installed before eating chili but I am not in charge.  There are four levels of sponsorships, with $1000.00 being the “Four Alarm” sponsor.  I propose giving back to the Pavilion and raising money for this cause.  F3 Gastonia can assist in raising money for the bathrooms and if we meet our goal sooner rather than later we will be recognized in all advertisements and social media, leading to more exposure for F3 and hopefully draw in some FNG’s.

I am calling on all site Q’s to collect donations from PAX throughout the month of September until we reach our goal of $1000.00.  PAX may contribute cash or checks (made payable to the Rotary Club of Gastonia).  The good news is Diablo Sammich has already said they were going to raise $100, and that was immediately countered with a $150 pledge from the PUB.  The Coconut Horse then said they would raise $151.

The purpose will be to raise awareness of F3Gastonia and support the community through adding an amenity to the premier Friday AO in our region.

This initiative is “Nantan approved” as well as “Site Q approved”.  If each PAX that posts contributes something we should reach our goal in short order.  F3 is free so there is no obligation to give but Site Q’s please take up the collections and let’s hit this goal and put F3Gastonia on more men’s radars in our region.

Aye!
