Stolen Weinke

Warm afternoon in the greatest afternoon AO and 9 Pax show for the old guy Q. Part of this workout was stolen by Flintstone from Go Greene Go in Shelby. I’ve been to F3 Shelby a few times including the now legendary regional Convergence a while back in the freezing rain in which F3 Gastonia participated and I about froze to death. I have always enjoyed visiting other regions and tried to always bring something back to our region.

17:30 so time to go. Warmup. SSH x 10 IC, Squats x 10 IC. Turned over to Wojo who has returned from a recent surgery to call a few stretches. If you don’t know Wojo, he knows a lot about stretching and staying flexible. He called a few stretches then we did some more I don’t recall. Pledge. Mosey to the 2nd Turd Shack near the soccer fields.
Partner Up for a Lazy Dora.
100 Merkins/Holds 6″
200 Squats/People’s Chair
300 LBC’s/Hold Plank (Regular or Elbow)
Mosey to the small soccer field.

This is the stolen part of the workout. This is a You vs. You routine. 1 lap around the soccer field = 4 points, 10 burpees = 2 points, 10 Merkins = 1 point. You can choose how you wish to collect points. Some guys did mostly laps. Some did more exercises than others. This lasted close to 20 minutes. Here are the points reported:
Dr. Seuss 54
Defib 54
Slaw 51
Freight 47
Broke 46
Purple Haze 42
Wojo 40
Def Leppard 39
Hokie 37
Mosey back to the Turd Shack near the flag. Couple of one minute Wall Sits and few Wall Taps (10, 20, 30). Circle up for Iron Hulk with Merkins and Shoulder presses on a 1 to 4 ratio. Made it to 7/28 before time.

Announcements: Extinction Run 11-6, see Preblast for more information. It’s a fun time.
Prayer Requests: Chris Howell’s daughter and grandbaby, Magic Minnow’s dad, Bourbon Chase Team, TSquare and Rudolph are moving and we are going to miss those two great guys. Dr. Seuss took us out.

Reminder to always take time to reach out to guys on IR. I need to be better about this. It means a lot.

It’s getting a little cooler

The weather is starting to cool off and Midoriyama is the place to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30pm. 10 PAX came to get a good beatdown, but YHC may have disappointed a little with an average workout. Too much running and not enough bootcamps lately resulted in YHC having to back off the weinke a little. Here’s what we did:

I’m Broke

The Most Unsafe Workout Ever!!!

Needed to swap Qs for my Thursday night Midoriyama so YHC was thankful for Sargento’s schedule flexibility.  But apparently that’s debatable  among the remaining 9 PAX!  The Sky Q gave us a glorious day so 5:30… time to get to werk.

Warmup:  We started out easy with 10 each IC of SSHs / Don Qs / Hillbillies / and a new favorite thanks to Clavin – Skywalkers!  They look just like they sound however, I would agree it resembled an 80s Jane Fonda yoga video there for a minute… but I digress.  Finished up w/ 5 Burpees OYO.

The Thang:  We mosied over to the new super secret hiding place for blocks behind the horseshoe pits (shhhhhh) and formed a human bucket (block) brigade til all had a coupon.  We then shouldered them over to the big hill behind the adjacent baseball field.  It was there YHC called for rifle carries down the hill and murder bunnies up (I know Broke’s hating he missed this one)!  I was a little ambitious with 10 so I Ohmaha’d at 5, besides I knew we’d need a little more time for our mosey to the soccer field.  Shouldered the blocks back to the hiding place but left them out in hopes of returning b4 6:15.   Next we mosied by the pump track for a short round of 25 dips & vertical shoulder taps on the picnic benches at the covered shelter.  We then took off down the bike trail to a new cut powerline road paved with some rather large rocks and you would have thought I gave everyone a box of knives and asked them to go play in the street!  Not a lot “trail” runners in this bunch apparently.  I was accused of being a not-so-safe Safety Man and probably some other things I just didn’t hear as we mosied to the lower soccer field.  We paired up, split to opposite ends of the field, and did 11s (LBC / Booyah Merkins at midfield).  We mosied back to hide the blocks then finished up at the flag right on time!

COT:  Convergence Downtown 10/2/21 @ 07:00 (1,2, & 3rd F) / IPC will be conducted @ convergence & likely Thursday @ Midoriyama / Bourbon Chase coming up still need a driver/ Service Items: peel top applesauce (get to Broke) / Little Sweet may need a convertible for Homecoming parade, prom, ?

Prayer Requests:  Big Pappy & Family / Huckleberry’s Mom / Fort Mill PAX down in Beaufort was killed walking his dog (dog killed too) / PAX on recovery

It was a pleasure and honor to lead you men!  Excuse me while I kiss the sky!  PH

Pyramid

9 Pax showed up on a steamy afternoon at the premier afternoon AO. Tiger announced he was doing the Iron Pax Challenge Week 2 so he grabbed a block and took off to put in work.

Pledge

Warmup: SSH x 10 IC, Cotton Pickers x 10 IC (Mumblechatter indicated these may have been a little too fast), Patented Right Over Left and then Left Over Right, Low Slow Squats x 10 IC, Hillbillies x 10 IC.

Mosey toward the entrance of the park. Cross the road, turn right through the parking lot to the seldom used cul-de-sac.

The Thang: 100 Rep Pyramid
Reps 20-15-10-5-5-10-15-20 = 100. Perform 20 reps exercise then run to the parking lot and back, then 15, etc.
First exercise was Merkins. Slaw and Freight pushing the pace with Mayor right on their heels. Next exercise I jokingly said Burpees but anyone who knows me knows I will never call 100 burpees in any workout, just kidding Mayor! Next exercise was really LBC’s using the pyramid scheme running after each set of reps until we get to 100. I asked Slaw to call 10 IC Low Slow Squats and Freight correctly called out my reasoning was for the Q to catch his breath.

Mosey back across the road behind the horseshoe pits and get a block from our new secret hideaway block stash. Circle up behind the fence for some block work.
30 Curls
30 Chest Presses on your six
30 Shrugs
30 Curls
30 Chest Presses on your six
30 Shrugs
Return the blocks to our secret stash. Sprint back to the flag and time is up. Tiger is back after IPC.
.
Announcements: Convergence October 2nd Downtown. Be there.
JJ5K Saturday, September 25th at 9:00 a.m. Sign up since F3 Gastonia is a sponsor of this trail race with money going to a local student scholarship. We are trying to be sure that someone beats Sister Act this year. He’s been hurt, he’s been sick, he’s been working a lot. We think someone can get him.
Service Project Items for October: Cheese or Peanut Butter Crackers, Applesauce or Fruit cups.
Snowbird Men’s Conference and we have a group of Pax going next weekend.

Prayer Requests: Bos’ sister in law, Cougar’s grandmother, Magic Minnows dad, Barrel Racer. All F3 Gastonia Pax.
Blart took us out.

*NMM Great group today. Everyone worked hard and got in some work. We found out some interesting information today. Lil Sweet sometimes gets called to fix a drink machine and all he has to do is plug it in! Freight is enjoying his new digs in Belmont and has thoroughly enjoyed the moving process. Slaw was having “stomach” issues. There was some interesting art work on the asphalt. Show to know. Pockets was displaying some excellent form on his Merkins today. Not everyone can say that. You know who you are.

Age is but a random number

9 joined YHC for the day after my birthday celebration at Midoriyama on Thursday. This is what we did. Well at least some of us. Some did some of this. You know who you are.

Warmup:

Seal jacks ic, goofballs ic, morroccan nightclubs ic all done to some random number of my choosing because that’s how old I am.

The Thang:

Let’s mosey to the far soccer field. Stopped off for some random number Mike Tyson’s on the way.

At the field line up on the sideline for some IPC throw back. Originally this was done in 10 yd increments but my cones were MIA so we stepped it up a little. Broad jump 10 times, 10 burpees, broad jump 10 times, 10 bonnie blairs, broadjump 10  times, 10 WWI’s, bear crawl what seemed like forever back to the start. We did this 2 rounds and moved on to the dog park hill.

At the hill run up and down then NUR up and run down. Rinse and repeat for a total of 6 trips up and down. The NUR on this hill is more like a KLAW than a NUR.

Let’s mosey to the small soccer field. Another round of the IPC throw back but we swapped the 10 count to a 5 count.

Let’s mosey all the way down to my hill of chose for some Joe Hendricks and crabwalks. We did several trips up  and down before heading back to the flag.

At the flag we had a few minutes to spare so we did some squats with cherry pickers. Pick them off the tree then put them in the basket. This is one used during growruck by cadre Shredder and according the PAX  Sarlacc.

COT:

Announcements-Service project items for September are fruit or applesauce cups and lance crackers, Labor day theres a workout in McAdenville at 7:00am park near the river bridge.

Prayer Request-Westside, Barrel Racer

Moleskin:

Shout out to Bubba Sparx for his virgin post out in the heat of Midoriyama. He should’ve come last week when it was still in the 90’s! but T-claps anyway.

Trial by Fire

We are definitely in the dog days of summer. YHC picked up the Q knowing it was going to be a scorcher. The PAX kept rolling in despite the 95 degree heat. YHC was glad to see a great crowd. It usually rains when YHC has the Q at Midoriyama, but there were hardly any clouds in sight. Nantan asks “what are we doing today?”, to which YHC replied “a little bit of this, a little bit of that”. He’s saving his energy for the Hood to Coast relay. YHC doesn’t care. It’s time to push rocks!

Warmup:

SSH X 10 IC

5 Burpees

Don Q’s X 10 IC

5 Burpees – Moaning and groaning from Gashouse leadership (current AND past) begins

Grass Pickers X 10 IC

YHC dropped the last 5 Burpees due to what he had in store

Thang:

Mosey to soccer field closest to dog hill and find a shady spot. Once all PAX arrived on station, YHC announced a different kind of triple nickel – The 555 Standard. More moans and groans from leadership as the Q explains. It’s 5 rounds of:

15 Burpees, 15 Squats, 15 H/R Merkins, run a lap around the soccer field.

YHC must admit that this was tougher than it looked on paper. The sun beat down relentlessly and there was no breeze blowing (unless you count Purple Haze and Blart’s flatulence). Some PAX modified as needed. Mumblechatter was prolific during the whole evolution.

Mosey back to the shady side of the turd shack for AMRAP (10 minutes worth!):

10 Merkins

15 WW1’s

20 Squats

Time’s up.

Announcements:

Service project items are boxed Tuna, Granola Bars, Breakfast Bars.

JJ5K on 9/25/21 (pre-blast just posted).

Combo workout with Mt. Hollywood and the Sandlot combining on Labor Day in McAdenville in the parking lot by the river (at the Castarphen bridge). 0700 start time.

Labor Day 50 miler in Dallas headed up by Roundup and Hacksaw.

Prayer Requests:

Montross’s Mother

The situation in Afghanistan

The Barnett Family

Barrel Racer

Family of Jennifer Walker

Family of Brooke Foster

Sargento mentioned the husband of one of his clients with a large mass on their kidney

Kids and teachers going back to school

YHC took the guys out in prayer.

NMM:

YHC wants to thank the PAX in attendance. It was hotter than $2 pistol out there and the men pushed hard through the heat. It may be difficult for some PAX to make it to the hottest AO around, but YHC encourages you to post if you haven’t. There seems to be more mumblechatter due to the workout being in the afternoon since everyone is awake and has already had a long day at work. YHC finds it’s a great way to unwind and relieve the stress of the day.

Fair winds and following seas,

Slaw

Freight’s WODD again

9 Pax pulled in to the best afternoon AO around and under threat of storms and tornados proceeded with the workout. I saw Slaw had an Open Q so I signed up to help out a Site Q as all of us should be doing as much as possible.

Warmup SSH x 15 IC, Patented Right over Left, (Un?)patented Left over right, Cotton Pickers x 10 IC, Low Slow Squats x 10 IC, Hillbillies x 10 IC.
Pledge

Mosey the long way to the picnic shelter in case of rain for the Thang.

Slaw had mentioned that he was going to use a WOD (workout of the day) if he had the Q so I figured I might recycle a WOD I used a while back. I didn’t really tell them it was a WOD but here’s how it started.
Flutter Kicks x 41 or 42 count right leg
Reverse Crunch x 41 or 42 single count
Run down the hill to the pier and back up to the shelter. I usually try to have a hill climb in my Q’s because I am terrible at hill climbs.
Elbow Plank x 1 minute
Imperial Walkers Squats x 41 or 42 count the squat
Run down the hill to the pier and back up to the shelter.
Goofballs x 41 or 42 count right leg
Hand Release Merkins x 40 single count
Run down the hill to the pier and back up to the shelter.
Travoltas One arm plank moving free arm Staying Alive Style 20 each side
Seal Jacks x 40 single count
Run down the hill to the pier and back up to the shelter.
Werkins x 40 single count
Outlaws Flutter position feet together, make an O 20 in each direction
Run down the hill to the pier and back up to the shelter.
Dying Cockroaches x 41 or 42 right leg
Then I overheard that Seuss would have done Dips so
Dips x 41 or 42.
Mosey back to the flag.
1 minute of Flutter Kicks and Time.
For those who didn’t notice the letters that begin each exercise, it spells Freight’s WODD, extra D for various reasons, some not suitable for publication. I told everyone that none of us would be standing here at Midoriyama without Freight as he was the founder of the AO and has kept it going through the years. As for the 41 or 42 reps, those were guesses of his actual age since he never tells his real age in the nameorama. I thought it would be a good day to recognize Freight as he is going through some changes.

Announcements: Combo Workout in McAdenville on Labor Day combining Mount Hollywood and Sandlot at 7:00 am.
F3 Dads Workout this Saturday at Folsom at 7:00 am with Purple Haze and Ball Joint on Q. Bring the kids.
F3 Gastonia will sponsor JJ5K again this year as we have a grudge match of Sister Act (Canoe) vs. Freight for supremacy in the 40-44 age group. Freight isn’t against a full contact race and SA has many, various injuries already so watch out! See Broke to help with the sponsorship.
We will participate in the ChristmasTown 5K and this will be a Speed For Need event and these are great and every Pax should be there.

Prayer Requests: Praise Report for Madeline Letts successful surgery, Westside’s Dad, Purple Haze’s Dad and Mom, Roscoe’s Father-in-Law and wife, Linus’ Dad, Turtleman and Kids and Teachers returning to school.

Gettin the Rocks Off!

It was a day you just don’t get to experience often in August… 77 degrees & overcast!  6 PAX showed & were ready to go.  Here’s what we did:

Warmup:  SSH / Abe Vigoda / Left Over Rights (patented) / LBC (all IC)

The Thang:  We mosied to the Lakeside Turd Shak for a quick round of Dirty Hookups IC.  Then split into 2 teams and lined up along the lake access road.  From there we stopped at each pile of rocks along the drainage ditch for 25 of the noted exercise that YHC placed prior to today’s workout.  Each exercise was completed utilizing one or more rocks from the pile (your call on how heavy or light… Really Slaw!).   Squat-to-Overhead Press / Bent Over Row / WWI / Tricep Extensions / Pinch Grip Moroccan Nightclubs… again, really Slaw! / Crossover Rock Merkins / Rock Slams.  We then finished up with a true Bear Crawl through the remaining rock-lined drainage ditch.  Next we moved to the shelter for 25 more Step-ups and Dips.  Finally, we mosied down to the lake and back up the zig-zag to the top for a short horizontal handrail crawl.  We assembled on the v-ball court keeping our teams for a “sandy-V… I mean shoe-filled game of volleyball.  We mosied back to the parking lot for the pledge and COT.  YHC prayed us out.

Announcements:

  • Tubing trip this Saturday (call Broke)
  • Service project items: tuna-crackers packs
  • Snowbird
  • Bourbon Chase

Prayers:

  • Gumby’s Mom
  • Turtleman
  • Uranus

  • All PAX w/ Kids

  • Stroganoff post surgery

Excuse me while I kiss the sky!

Blackjack

YHC was going to write this BB sooner, but the M dropped the laptop and destroyed the screen. After waiting a couple of weeks, YHC can now write it. Luckily, the workout was pretty simple (but effective) according to a few of the PAX in attendance.

W/U: Merkins, Grass Pickers, SSH (all X10 IC)

Thang: Mosey to the small soccer field for Blackjack. It’s exactly like 11’s, but on steroids. 20 Merkins on one side, 1 Big Boy at the other. 19/2, 18/3…..all the way down to 1/20. Looking back, this really sucked. The Midoriyama heat multiplies the suck factor by 10.

We then met at one corner of the field for the burpee mile(ish). YHC had planned to do this around one of the large soccer field but time was running short. 12 Burpees, run a lap around the field. Rinse and repeat 4 rounds total.

We had a few extra minutes due to bat flippers being bat flippers, so we Merkins, Squats and Big Boys at every light pole on the left back to the flag.

Time’s up.

Announcements: Snowbird Men’s retreat 9/24-9/26. JJ5K in Stanley. All other announcements a void because they’ve already passed.

Prayer requests: Turtleman, 2.0’s of a few of the PAX, our country, each other.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Until Next Time,

Slaw
