Midoriyama 3/28/24

Great weather for a VQ. I brought out a lot of old people to the workout with the VQ announcement I made. I also had to back up my words with a good workout so that’s what we did.

Started off with a quick introduction and warmup. As I called the first stretch, the first VQ test came as they all at the same time started complaining and taunting to try to get me off, but I persisted. We then moseyed across the street to the paved trail. There we did a 10, 20, 30, 40 stack workout. We started at the top with 10 then ran around the trail and stopped at each bench to stack each workout. 10 Mike Tyson’s, 20 American Hammers, 30 Squats, and 40 Merkins. After the Merkins were finished we down stacked and went back 40, 30, 20, then 10. After the six was in we moseyed over to the hill near the lake and did a triple nickel. Squats at the top and dips at the gazebo. Time was running short so we finished and gathered back up at the flag there we did 5 minutes of merry to end.

I’m grateful for each one of you that showed up for my VQ. Your support made it a blast and can’t wait to Q more.

The Gastonia Goonie 2024

Ok men of F3 its time for something completely stupid.  Just like the crazy Goonies from the 80s this CSAUP will require physical prowess and mental acuity (yes I know those kids didn’t have either but its 2024)

What: Ruck based CSAUP

Date: 5/4/24

Time: 3 AM yes 3 AM – no excuses I know you don’t have plans at that time. (Yes completely stupid)

Duration – under 4 hours

Location: Gashouse AO (Schiele Museum)

Why: Because we can

What you need to bring: yourself, a rucksack and a good attitude.  It will suck but I promise you you’ll love every minute (after you’re done).

Details: Full details and instructions will be given the morning of the event.  Pax will follow the lost map for a 10+ mile ruck with adventure stations along the way to challenge you both mentally and physically.  We will be back in time for the beatdown at the gashouse at 7am.

Should I Stay or Should I Go?

It was nice to actually stay for COT and coffee after Tequila Sunrise; and it was appreciated that some HIMS stuck around after FRC to make up the 20 pax and 2 ruckers that pushed themselves this morning. Alma Mater and Nutria flew in just about bumper-to-bumper to get here..almost on time.

“Through the Valley” at The Sword

It was great to get back to the Sword!

Stogie, Wirenut, Pallbearer, and Flintstone rucked;

Runners Westside, Slaw, Gearwrench got a headstart; Radar, Alma Mater, and YHC left at about 5:07;), then later caught up..much to the dismay of Westside who tried a “Freight” maneuver on a surprised Seuss; Gearwrench acted a little offended when Radar seemed to mistake him for Sister Act..haha. Good camaraderie!

Word:

Psalm 23: 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

..whatever the valley, you are walking THROUGH it. Jesus is not up ahead asking for directions. He is not lost. He knows where He is leading you. He knows there is a way through it and out of it because that was His own experience of the valley; HE HAS BEEN THERE AHEAD OF YOU AND FOR YOU.” (David Gibson) An encouraging word for those who are followers of Christ.

Pallbearer took us out.

High Standards..Gone with the Wind

12 pax gathered at Old School on a windy Saturday morning. Between serenades of “Happy Birthday” to Blart, lead by Sargento, and lots of conversation, we actually got in some work. It was great to see Tricycle (and to partner up with him) and Sargento, on this side of town! Thanks to Wik for pushing me; to Freight for picking up the six and always keeping it interesting; to Gumby for always being supportive; to Chili for coming out despite not feeling the best (and after playing a great game of frisbee on my team at Midoriyama on Thursday); to Leppard for reminding me not to set my standards too high..lol..to Blart, for taking the attention paid to him, like a trooper (at least outwardly:); to Slaw, who bravely endured what he called “the longest hour of his life”; to Wirenut for keeping the conversation moving; and to Medicine Woman for coming out for what he thought would be a Mayor Q. Broke and Flintstone joined us after a long run. It was great to see an unkempt SA (Leppard’s words) on the road to recovery, join us at the end and  for breakfast, where the camaraderie..and birthday tributes..continued. Good grief!

Word:

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭ In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

“In Scripture, separation is not isolation, for if believers are isolated, how can they be the salt of the earth and light of the world and influence others for the Lord? Believers can be separated from sin and to the Lord and still be involved in the normal challenges and activities of human life. Jesus had contact with the real world and its people, but he wasn’t contaminated from that contact. True biblical separation is contact without contamination. When you’re different, you attract people and have opportunities to share the good news of Christ.” Warren Weirsbe

Leppard took us out!

Thankful for you guys!

P.S. Happy Birthday, Blart!!

Man vs Car or Stymied Again at the Pub

It has been awhile since YHC has run the Pub, so it was great both to be back and to Q! 8 runners set out together; some not thrilled with the chosen “Sargento Backwards” route, but I had done this before so no problem, or so I thought. Now I sympathize with the other pax who say they still get turned around in the neighborhood, which caused Broke to get in a little extra mileage that he didn’t want or plan for.  Despite that, and the three-car conundrum at the intersection, the run and fellowship was good! Great to be with this group at this venue again and to have Alma Mater with us!

[15] He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

“Hearing God’s Word is a matter of focusing our whole being- mind, heart, and will- on the Lord, receiving what He says to us and obeying it. The Word of God must penetrate our hearts and become a part of our inner beings if it is to change our lives.”

Waterboy took us out.

Thanks for coming out! Pleasure to lead!

Word:

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5:5‭-‬7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[5] Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” [6]  Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, [7] casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

“In the end, your fear reveals a lot about your theology. When you embrace anxiety and worry, you are embracing a set of beliefs about God, his love for you, and his ability to take care of you. When our anxiety is fueled by fear, the Bible talks about it less in terms of a weakness of constitution that needs to be overcome, and more as a sin to be avoided and repented of.”
