Late to the Party

YHC has a habit of trying to get just a couple more things done around the office before leaving to go places. This can lead to cutting it close when needing to be somewhere at a particular time. Such was the case leading up to the workout Tuesday at Midoriyama. Of course, when traffic doesn’t help, it means that you’re 3 minutes late for your Q and Freight has been leading the warm like a HIM would. Anyway, after a couple of snide remarks, here’s what happened…

Mosey to the nice parking lot at the across the street annex. Line up on the short side of the lot for The Thang

NCAA Tournament Suicides (not really suicides, just a run to the other end and back) This was fresh off the beatdown that Baylor put on the weak west coast Zags the night before. Do the same number of reps as the round and after each round of exercises the PAX runs.

  • Round of 64 – CDDs
  • Round of 32 – Big Boy sit ups
  • Sweet 16 – Diamond Merkins
  • Elite 8 – Lunges each leg
  • Final 4 – Merkins
  • Final 2 – 12 V-Ups because 2 isn’t enough
  • Winner – 1 Burpee which is 1 too many IMO

The PAX switched from the long side of the lot for our next session of pain

NIT Tournament Suicides – To make up for the fact that there is one less round in this tournament and the distance is shorter, the PAX would bear crawl from one side to the other.

  • Round of 32 – American Hammers each side
  • Round of 16 – Jump Squats
  • Round of 8 – Mike Tysons
  • Round of 4 – Turkish Getups
  • Last 2 – 8 Count Body Builders
  • Winner – 1 Burpees

There was time left so YHC called for a lap around the paved trail through the woods so we could stretch our legs.

Back to where the big tournament was played. This time, we did the same exercises and the same count for each, just in reverse. It was a lot of fun, trust me.

Mosey back to the start for a brief warm down of Goofballs, Don Quixotes and the patented Sargento Left over Right. Times up, thanks for putting up with me men.

Prayer Requests – Pray for the whole GSM family and the people in Rock Hill after that tragedy. Roscoe’s coworker’s son passed after battling cancer. Oompa’s neighbor who passed.

Announcements – PT Test, Convergence, Mayor’s 2.0 cleanup this Saturday, Short Sale’s challenge, TronMoss 5k

I’m Broke

Southern Storm!

As most know YHC tends to split time between Gastonia and Lake Wylie workouts dut to advantageous proximity to both  regions.  The Wylie crowd is generally a bit younger and they do like ot run. I am not problematic with that at all! In fact it keeps the old bones in motion. Love the Core guys in metro but got to get with it with these guys too! Gastonia has matured the past couple of years, great mix of old and young and we have bene running a lot. Probably too much but we are learning to moderate that for pax not  into running. Which is something we need to consider. That said, today was all about the buttermilk as YHC rolled in early to place a few markers on the field the clown car from the south bearing Wylie pax rolled in! And not far behind them the bearded warriors of Folsom took the field with them. Ragnar Lothbrock would have been proud at such a group as the pax swelled to 22. Not bad for a spring break morning!

So as we took the field on a perfect day the festivities began as follows:

SS burpees X 5

IWs X 20

Cotton Pickers X 20

Grapevines

NOlan Ryan X 15 each side

Mountain Climbers X 20

Mosey over to the half pipe for some muffled repeats and some voice discipline. This was a veteran group so I knew it would work.

Half pipes:

Top: Plank Jacks X 5

Bottom: burpees X 5

Other side Top: Monkey humpers X 5

2 sets and back to the field. Pax worked well!

Line up on the end line:

1st 25: Broad jump to the line, 5 up-downs on Q.

2nd 25: Burpee Broad Jump, 5 u-ds, 10 HR merkins

3rd 25: Karoake, 5 u-ds, 10 HR merkins, 15 Big boys

4th 25: Lunge walk, 5 u-d, 10 HR merkins, 15 Big boys. 20 CDDs

Mosey to midfield:

10 SSH, 10 Jump Squats.

End line, count off by 3s for……….Bear Crawl Slalom!

Everybody got 3 rolls here. Most def a challenge.

Back to the endline, and over to the benches.

10 dirkins

10 step ups each leg

10 dips

Run across the field and back. Rinse and repeat.

Go to the center of the field and do a pledge. Work done!

NMM:

This was nothing short of an awesome group to be with today much less lead. The Wylie brothers are great guys and I really look forward to them teaming with us on all sorts of things including but not limited to CSAUPs, convergences, service projects and down the road probably some shared AOs. The opportunities abound! And working together to make it happen.

Again, can’t say enough for the Folsom boys making the effort to show and give our Wylie brothers a real feel for what we’re about here. I plan ot get up there and Q one Saturday after Turkey season. AND same for getting down to a Saturday in Wylie too! I have never done that. My bad!

Total honor to lead this bunch of high impact men. Inspires me that they showed up! Boys pushed the rock today. For real.

Let’s return the favor down there men. Soon!

Tesla

Why did I wait so long to write this ?

I will never wait so long to write my backblast again! I am such a looser.

We did a typical PainLab circuit with 50 seconds of work and 10 seconds to transition.

Something like Sumo dead lift, swings, chest press, single arm rows, curl to overhead press, crunches, burpees, American hammers, flutter kicks, Carolina dry docks, iron mans, merkins, big boy sit-ups, heels to Heaven, box cutters, etc.

We played 80′ Rock n Roll and broke a sweat.

Cardio Tennis

My youngest 2.0 is out of town this week for Spring Break. The lives our kids get to live can be quite charmed – lucky for them. But lucky for me because that frees my morning schedule to get after it: #noexcuses (though I’ve made plenty in the last year. I reached out to Wichita a few weeks back to secure the Q spot at Folsom this morning so I could venture north where work is completed and the rock is pushed extra hard. I was a little worried having stayed up to watch the National Championship basketball game, so I set 2 alarms so not to miss the action. As our friend Huckleberry likes to say: “it’s time to clock in.”

Warm-up:

10 IC count of: Toy Soldier, Imperial Walkers, Side to Side Lunge, Plank Jacks, Fire Hydrants (SC R/L)

Pledge

Mosey a short distance to the tennis courts. It’s a wonder no one has seriously injured themselves in that dark place but I decided to bring out some old drills from my high school tennis days. Our warm-up in those days began with a little cardio of the “W” drill and “Tracers.” So I began to demonstrate the pattern to which Tater Hole rightfully called me out to say: “that looks like a V.” Q-fail – thanks TH – I then corrected to the W, running from the baseline down the alley, touch the net, backpedal (i.e.: NUR), to the “T” then forward to the net, backpedal the alley. We spread out among both sides of the 6 courts – run the W on all 6 courts, both sides but before starting the next court perform 5 Bobby Hurleys in honor of the NCAA b-ball championship. This was a good cardio start. So let’s keep it going. Tracers were up next and you basically follow all the lines on the court, forward, backward, side shuffle, etc. This time between each court do 5 mountain climbers. All 6 courts, both sides. I did take a moment to share the story of Roscoe NUR-ing down Dixon Road and tripping over and landing on Anthrax. This was a warning/disclaimer to give some space to others and not have an Anthrax moment.

We moseyed to the lower parking lot and the picnic shelter for the Red Reaper. This is a routine that culled together from a few things and really like the effect. I briefly feel like Rudolph when I complete it – briefly – then reality shrinks my noodles to standard size. It goes like this:

  • 15 Merkins
  • 30 Shoulder Taps (county both taps)
  • 15 Merkins
  • 15 Dips
  • 30 Decline Peter Parkers
  • 15 Dips

To provide a brief rest after that set I led a little bit of Mary: LBCs, Flutters, and Dollys all IC x 10; Repeat that set again.

We reached 0600 so I had a few more things on the Weinke – only time for one so I went with the Mini-4 Corners. All PAX find your own parking spot.

  • CDD’s SC x 10; bear-crawl forward to the top of the parking rectangle
  • Mtn. Climbers SC x 10; plank walk right
  • Shoulder Taps SC x 10; Joe Hendrix to the bottom of the rectangle
  • Plank Jacks SC x 10; plank walk left to the start
  • 2-line suicide – count each line x 10

We did 3 sets and I gave the PAX a choice for one more or back to base and Mary. It was a split vote – Achey Breaky didn’t care one way or the other – typical millennial. We decided to stay for a 4th round. Mosey back to base.

Announcements: F3 Dads this weekend – bring a trashbag and a kid (or not) or find a kid on the street and bring them (or maybe not); point is to pick up trash and make our AO’s better. At Folsom – they will reconvene at 10:30 am. 4/17 is the Convergence at Bulldog 0700. If you have a concrete block or something similar – bring it with you. 4/24 – PT test at GasHouse; this week – Name it & Claim it Challenge – Merkins – You vs. You – keep up the good work. Prayers: Big Pappy, Sister Act and healing; those looking for jobs.

Thanks to Wichita and the Folsom men for allowing me to Q – it was an honor to workout with you this morning. It was a mix of cardio and strength work. Hopefully it was worth the price of admission. Hopefully I’ll be back sooner rather than later.
