BOB and a Gorilla Complex

Dang, it’s hot. At 5:15 and not a soul in sight, YHC was thinking the heat had scared the Midoriyama PAX away. To his relief, all the boys showed up a few minutes later. Some clouds had rolled in to block the sun and the rumble of thunder was heard in the distance. No matter. It’s still freaking hot out here, so YHC developed a Weinke that would keep the PAX’s heart rate relatively low. Mumblechatter at this AO is always a given, and with Mayor and Freight (and a rather snarky Def Leppard) in attendance, YHC knew we were going to have fun!

Warmup:

  • Right over left stretch
  • Left over right stretch

Thang:

YHC searched the F3 Exicon and came across a block routine called “The Gorilla Complex”. 8 rounds of:

  • 8 Curls
  • 8 Overhead Presses
  • 8 ALPOs
  • 8 Tricep Extensions
  • 8 Merkins on the Block
  • Run a lap around the parking lot behind the turd shack

If you notice, the exercises are arranged where the first letter of each exercise spells “COAT”. There’s an “M” at the end for Merkins. This was done so YHC could remember the exercises called. The Weinke had them listed with ALPOs and Overhead Presses reversed, so it would’ve been “CAOT”. Mayor and Def Leppard assumed it was their civic duty to call the Q out for not following his own Weinke to the letter. YHC crumbled his Weinke and threw it at the feet of the 2 hecklers, flew a one fingered peace sign their way, and assumed control of the workout.

The heat was really getting to the PAX. Freight hardly talked (probably because he and Gumby were in bat flipper mode). Def Leppard’s mumblechatter game was at a professional level, and Mayor begins to tell the PAX he’s a draft horse because he has Clydesdale’s hooves on his arms. Ash Pond is discussing his sex life (or lack thereof) and Pall Bearer’s eyes are rolling around in his head. Luckily, we finished  shortly thereafter.

Next we did a crossfit WOD simply called BOB. It’s simple, but effective. 13,12,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 reps of:

  • Hand Release Merkins
  • Big Boys
  • Squats

The rain began to fall as we pushed through this one. It felt really good. We were getting covered in grass and mud but no one cared. As we finished, the rain stopped. We had a few minutes for 5,4,3,2,1,1,2,3,4,5 reps of curls and overhead presses. Return the blocks to the storage area, get the pledge and that’s it.

Great work by all the guys today. It felt like an oven but they pushed through. Special shout out to Pall Bearer who is consistently posting in the heat and pushing hard. He’s lost 7 pounds this week! T-Claps to you, brother! Ash Pond pushed through with no problems despite he’s a Kotter. Freight and Gumby bat flipped for 45 minutes as if the heat didn’t bother them at all. Def Leppard’s face was as red as his shirt but he was still dragging Mayor’s butt during the Gorilla Complex. Mayor still knocked it out and kept the mumblechatter going despite having hooves on his arms.   Does he need to see a doctor or veterinarian?

Shelby Clowncar – 7/6/2022

YHC had the Q and reached out to get a clowncar together.  Had a strong showing of PAX and put in work.

Highlights were

  • 1 PAX arriving over 10 minutes early for a 0530 workout just to find out it started at 0515
  • An 8 year old breaking a cinder block doing murder bunnies
  • An unnecessarily long wall sit
  • Duck walking traffic circles
  • And the closer… an amphitheater Triple Nickel up and down the stairs with 5 burpees at the top and 5 burpees at the bottom

Thanks for those that traveled.  More clown car opportunities to come.

Early July At The Yank

Gavel needed some reinforcements for Qs in July and YHC helped with the first Saturday of the second half of the year.  Like I usually do, I added some trivia into my Q.

All vets, so a quick disclaimer and we were off.

Mosey down to the covered pavilion for some Corewood.  We did 6 or 7 different ab exercises on my count.

We then moseyed up to First Baptist Church parking lot where there was a circuit of 11 different exercises written in the parking spaces.  The pax would do the given exercise, take a lap around the parking lot, then move on to the next exercise.  With the heat and humidity we were all in. a full lather at this point.

We then headed over to the old middle school for some four corners.  We did dips, calf raises, lunges and leg raises.  We did 10 reps, then rinse and repeat for 20 reps and again for 30 reps.

Mosey down to the track for some Dora.  Merkins, LBCs and squats.  That took us to time.  Moseyed back to the yank.

No Fireworks for the 4th of July

We didn’t have much of a turn out in Mt. Hollywood on July 4th, only one PAX showed up for a workout.  I thought there would be more people show up since everyone had the day off.  The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776.  The numbers for the day are 7/4/17/76.

Warmup: 17 x burpees

Moseyed down to the school crossing in front of Ida Rankin.

Suicides: At the start do 7 x American Hammers; run to the first pole do 6 x Merkins; run back to the start and do 7 x American Hammers; run to second pole do 6 x Merkins.  Continue going back and forth in suicide style until you get to the sixth pole.

Run a lap after 4 exercises are complete.  Repeat x4.

Then we started at the top of the parking lot with 10 SSH

20 squats

20 lunges

then run to the 2nd light pole get two burpees and back. We done this for 3 rounds

Next was from the 2nd light pole up to the triangle area

50 flutters

50 LBC

10 merkins

Once these were completed we ran back to the shovel flag. Everyone thought we were complete but we still had 3 minutes!! We ran back up to the triangle as fast as you could got 5 burpees then ran back down!

TIME

A good day at the GasHouse

We started the morning off with several Men gathering around waiting on the Bell to start working.
7am so we began.
Warm Up, then Pain Lab pax went one way and we moseyed up to Grier Middle Parking lot.

11’s Star Fish and V-Ups.
10s one Pax goes in said direction. another pax goes the opposite way.
10 merkins down to 1.

after that we did some rocky Balboas and calf raises.

100’s
Partner work partner 1 takes a lap and partner 2 does the work. exchange once the lap is complete.
we made it through several exercise’s then it was time.

Warm-O-Rama

5:30 Go Time!   I disclaimed the legal stuff and we started with The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.   Warm Ups included SSH’s, Sun Gods, Mtn Climbers and Produce Pickers.   I saved the message until the ending COT.  #DRP   #ACCELERATION

The Work

First up, a steady mosey around the school track.   Spin the Music, RUSH was the morning playlist:  Tom Sawyer, Spirit of the Radio, Working Man, the list goes on and on.   I called out a “Modified Murph” – 5 cycles of the following:

  • 10 Pull-Ups
  • 20 Merkins
  • 40 Squats
  • 1 Lap around the track (rinse and repeat)

 

Next up, mosey over to the wall for some wall sits, 15 minutes remaining so we didn’t linger long at the wall.   Then, off to the grass field for modified Quarter Pounders.

  • From the Goal Line, run to the 25 yard line, 25 Mountain Climbers, then back to Goal Line
  • From the Goal Line, run to the 50 yard line, 50 SSH’s, then back to Goal Line
  • From the Goal Line, run to the 75 yard line, 75 LBC’s, then back to Goal Line
  • From the Goal Line, run to the 100 yard line, 100 Flutters, then back to COT

 

With 40 seconds remaining, we did American Hammers until time expired.   I believe the PAX were gassed!   I know I was.

Thirteen showed up for the COT, but I only remember seeing nine (ten, if you count me) out running or rucking. Oh well, some rucked – some ran.
