Great work by some dedicated pax!  Cold, windy, wet. NOT the great blizzard of the decade however. Folgers is 5 for 5 on the merlot splashing. Made it to the bear crawls and through them though! Good man.  Extraordinary week for the nation.  I remember 1968. Reminds me of 1968. Total chaos and that’s not good. But I will also say that where chaos and adversity exist, so does opportunity! So my question is how will you prepare and make it happen? We’re here to help. Be different, be disruptive, and get at it. It’s expected. F3 prepares you for that. That’s what we do. When the world goes crazy we calm down and get at it. A power greater than us controls. We merely do the work he asks of us.

Buttermilk before Egg Nog, or How did I find myself downtown this morning!

YHC took on this morning’s Q when EZ Rider and his M tested positive for Covid a couple of weeks ago. he did message me last night to tell me he was fine, would be coming back out Monday but was i still on for the Q. Had a few late comers, little bit of a skeleton crew today. Had some regulars out on different missions today. Get that for sure! 30 degrees today, felt like 28 with the wind. Same air temp yesterday at The Goat felt like 48. So we got with it QUICKLY today! Great work today by all.

Will be coming up with a Christmas day announcement. Right now, I am willing to lead as my son is 22 and not getting up for Santa. Other pax that are in that position reach out via Slack and let us know what the degree of interest is. I am willing to lead this uptown or any other site but let me know!

Prayed out for Preparation over control mindset in these times. We have to be the prepared ones, the examples, the pathfinders, the leaders.

Birthday and Buttermilk

NMM:

Great cold morning and a great way to start the 7th decade on the Big Ball! That seems crazy to say or conceive of for that matter. Even got a birthday present! A quart of Buttermilk! How about that! I’m good with it. Real good in fact.

In all seriousness 61 for me is a big deal. My dad died at age 61. I was 31. So essentially I have lived half my life without him here with me. I loved my dad. But he had the opportunity to be great. And he didn’t quite get there. Lots of self inflicted wounds. Tears me up when I think of it because he really was solid in a lot of areas. But he lacked a mature faith and it hurt him. How about we learn from mistakes and get better form them which is my thing here. So to me it’s about finishing some big jobs this year and getting others opened up and moving. On a lot of fronts.

Great group to celebrate with. Let’s go lead from the front and make things happen men!

Above the Arctic Circle

Nine pax showed up for a nippy Friday morning beatdown, some in what looked to be spacesuits and parkas such as YHC has not seen since February 2009 in Northern Greenland, well inside the Arctic Circle. I have to say, the morning gloom did remind YHC of a mid to late morning in those environs. But the comparison ended there because it was usually about 10 degrees with a -15 wind chill giving the place all the ambiance of Mars. Tell Elon I don’t need to go now. Beatdown went like this:

COP:

Arm stretches

SSH X 20

IW X 20

NMM:

Outside of the temp being @ 40 and the north star nowhere near dead over the top of us, it looked like Thule Airbase based on the pax level of cover! Felt nostalgic for the old North Star lounge and the polar bear signs that said WARNING: This animal will hunt you, kill you, and eat you! So much for feeding the bears.

Pax worked hard today. Good group if a little thin form normal. Maybe that buttermilk doesn’t thing. We certainly drank it!

Lots of things on the horizon coming up. Thanksgiving day “triple down”, Christmas party, leadership opportunities. Step up men! Downtown Qs needed.

First Frost in Cramerton

So YHC showed up at The Goat today to lead on more or less the 7th anniversary of his  first post ever in Charlotte Metro at Copperhead. Actually was 11/4/13 but why not observe it now? F3 was a different animal then. Went like this in the gloom that featured among other things the town sprinkler system going full blast in sub freezing weather on dormant grass. Smart. Real smart! More on that later.

COP:

NMM:

Great chilly morning to stay on the move. And move we did! Great work by all. Especially proud of The Wall. Pushing and getting better. This is what we want, what we look for. Not being left behind in any way. But not where he is either! And that’s what we are ALl about!

It was 7 years ago in November I joined up. Was skeptical about it. Didn’t think they were working out hard enough. My M thought I needed the fellowship going back to my  marathon/triathlon days when i was with guys all the time. We made each other better. I can go back to the late ’80s early 90s and tell you about all the guys (and girls) who met at the old Central (Dowd) Y then to run, swim ,bike and wound up setting the standards across the carolinas at races. In 1989 -90 we had I think 7 of us who had Boston QTs (I was one of those with a 2:57 at the old Charlotte Observer Marathon), and at least four who qualified for Ironman later that summer. That was a pretty remarkable crowd. And it took each one of us pushing each other  to get better. And that’s true well beyond athletics! F3 uses the workout thing to get you started. What you do with it is up to you. We’re there for you.

Tesla out.

Back to back at the Goat!

So YHC took on a back to back following Ricky Bobby yesterday and the Goat today. So after a late night “rescue” of my M and 2.0 from the rally last night so they wouldn’t  get home @ 1 am YHC relied on a basic program to deliver a  decent beatdown for the pax. Went like this:

COP:

Mtn. Climbers X 20

Mosey across the South Fork and over both bridges, lunge walk across the bridges to the parking lot for the following:

Prayers for Timeframe’s aging parents and health things they have going on.

Great AO and pax, love to lead here.

11/14 PT test. Not sure where. 7 am. If you were at the last one in the summer this is a great chance to measure your progress and how you do under cooler conditions.

Mixin’ it up in Belmont!

So when YHC took the Q at The Fighting Yank a couple of weeks ago for today he looked at all possibilities to shake things up a bit. As the day drew near it appeared we may be in for some interesting weather. So YHC decided to design a workout that too advantage of the AO (a great one) and got us in the elements with some degree of a contingency should we get lightning, which YHC has determined is a danger to the pax. So we wound up with the following results:

COP in the Temple

Arm and trunk stretch

SSH X 20

IW X 20

Cotton Pickers X 20

Grapevine stretches

Mtn. Climbers X 20

Nolan Ryans X 20

Mosey around the park and around the track and back to the Temple.

Burpees X 10

Jump Squats X 20

Merkins X 30

Jump Lunges X 40

LBCs X 50

Run up to stairs and on the street for butt to the rear monkey humpers.

LBCs X 50

Jump lunges X 40

Merkins X 30

Jump squats X 20

Burpees X 10

Triple nickel on the grassy knoll:

Bottom: 5 diamond merkins

Top: squats

R&R 5X

Over to the tables in the park:

Dirkins X 10

Big boy situps X 20

Dips X 10

Step ups X 10 each leg

Run around the park.

Rinse and repeat 3X, run again after 2X. Mosey up to the Field of Dreams as the warm up ends and the 4th quarter begins. And as we all know in a Tesla driven workout everythnig is just a set up for the 4th quarter.

Bear Crawl Slalom, divide the pax up in  two groups of seven, Tiger takes the 2s, YHC the 1s. Winner team gets 5 burpees, loser gets 10. 1s win. YHC does 10 with the 2s. That’s a leadership thing.

SSH X 10

Squats X 10

Mosey to the center of the field.

Werkins X 10

AHs X 10

Broad jump to the end of the field

Barely enough time for one half pipe:

Top: Plank jacks X 5

Temple: HR Merkins X 5

Street: Butt to the street monkey humpers X 5

Pledge and done.

NMM: Planned for rain but was able to get out in the environment and run around, which we were going to do anyway. 65 degrees and rain is no biggie. We most def mixed it up as the ‘blast indicates. Remember the 10/31 convergence at Martha Rivers in Gastonia. More or less the 6 year anny of the region. Looking forward to that one.

Welcome FNG Snow Bunny, looking forward to your progress in the program brother!

Pleasure to lead this group. Buttermilk was served. So was livermush afterwards. How could you improve on that?

Buttermilk in the Downtown morning

So YHC took the lead at Downtown last week leaving the AO. Have to admit, I really like this workout and AO! It has grown on me. Didn’t hurt that today may have been our best morning of the year today with a near full Harvest Moon, greats stars and temp @ 55 with low humidity. So things went like this:

COP:

SSH X 20

IW X 20

Cotton Pickers X 20

Mtn. Climbers X 10

Burpees X 5

Mosey down South Street to the hamburger hill  for some power pole suicides.

There will always be a Fighting Yank

So YHC got the word Friday that he would not be hunting birds on Saturday morning down in Anson County, NC which having heard that The Yank was going to be closed due to the CSAUP up at Folsom Saturday. So as I rolled into Primal Brewing for a happy hour beer YHC announced to the crowd that he would take the lead at the AO the next morning. And with that actually joined Slack and put it out there.  It had to be done. YHC was two things at that point. Available and committed. So on with the mission. Went like this:

NMM:

YHC and two pax attended this session. So they had a place to go. As I said in the top there will always be a Fighting Yank unless we have convergence and a “scheduled” outage so to speak. I will to the best of my ability make sure that happens in real time if necessary.  That is my commitment to the pax who do show for the Yank and have made it the best attended Saturday AO in the region.  And we did have a little buttermilk for breakfast! BTW, Cherubs is now open so we have a much better 2nd F/ Coffeteria AO too. So we are back in biz there as well!
