Toys

9 PAX showed up to find we have a new toy to play with at Midoriyama. Thanks to Pizza Man for getting us a Dolph size tire.

Warmup:

Seal Jacks x 20ic

High Knees, Butt Kickers, Let’s Mosey

The Thang:

Partner up and go to one of the 4 stations setup on the soccer field. 3 minute rounds. After 3 minutes you have 1:30 to take a lap around mid field and to your next station. This usually left about 30 seconds to rest before starting the next round. After each round the partners ran in opposite directions and went to the next station. What this did was give you a new partner at the next station. This way you get a chance to work with and talk to someone different. Of course this wasn’t followed initially so there was a little confusion. A few were seen running in circles after the first round trying to figure out where to go! To be honest I expected this to happen.

Station 1- take turns flipping the tire

Station 2- chest pass/hand-off cement block

Station 3- throw car size tire back and forth over the fence

Station 4- Step-ups while holding cement block

Mosey to the hill and partner up for Burp Back Mtn with 50 burpees(look this one up! Everyone loved it)

We put away our blocks and tires and played a short game of ultimate frisbee.

Mosey back to the flag.

Announcements- RSVP for the party, Nomads heading to ELHS The Mustang in Isotope this Saturday. Leave the mall at 6. Snowbird Men’s retreat in March. When you sign up put F3 with your name so they can group us together.

Prayer Request-Chum, T Square and M, Pizza Man’s Niece and Grandparents

Moleskin: We all battle the fartsack at some point. It’s the getting up and going that’s the hard part. However when we do it we are always glad we did. Remember that feeling you have when you’re done with the workout the next time you are struggling to go.

OL’ Trusty

6 PAX got lucky and missed the rain at Midoriyama. Slaw stepped up for the Q but his M set him straight and notified him he had a 2.0 event (thankfully she is keeping him on the straight and narrow). YHC took the fill in but was running behind. So Pizza Man took over and got the warm-up going as I came in hot! One of those days! Thankfully at Midoriyama there is always a HIM to step-up.

Warm-up:

I saw some SSH and squats when I was coming. Then we did some Don Quixte’s.

The Thang: Ol’ Trusty is one Pizza Man, Floppy Disk and I came up with back in the C4 days to simulate and train for a mud run. Run a little then do some task and keep repeating. So we run the road through the park and at each parking lot opening on your right we did 15 merkins and 10 squat jumps. We threw in 5 burpees at the speed humps. We stopped off at the shed for 2 rounds of Tricep dips x 15ic, Freddy Mercury x 20ic, Ironcross flutter kicks x 10ic. All in all we did a little over 2 miles and a lot merkins and squats.

Moleskin:

Good work by all today. Great to have Floppy Disk back out. 2 months on the coach set him back a bit but I have no doubt he will be back in marathon shape in no time!

Hope

3 Amigos met Dolph at The Fort this morning for another Nomads journey. There was a moment when the amigos arrival was questioned as an owl swooped down in front of the windshield of Def Leppard’s momma’s car on the interstate. The reaction of all three will not be told but we shield-locked and pushed on.

Whatdid(his F3 name! should’ve got the story on that) did a great job today. We talked afterwards and he explained how he really put the effort into preparing for anything. He had cones and various things laid out throughout the area ready for a beatdown. The one thing he wasn’t expecting was 40 HIMS showing up. Knowing we couldn’t run his workout with that number he modified and did a great job of it. I feel like we could’ve done a few more merkins though! Whatdid spoke about the theme of the month being hope. Great words indeed. Great group of guys down at The Fort! I felt I was among my people with all the mummblechatter.

Slaw has continued to amaze me on these trips showing his skill for movie line memory. I can’t remember what we watched from the redbox last week but this guy is throwing out lines from The Three Amigos like it just came out yesterday. Don’t get me wrong I loved that movie in the 2nd grade back in the 80’s but I don’t remember much about it. The ride home went smooth(Dolph good luck on your work project today) thanks to Def Leppard’s M’s sunglasses. A guy as cool as you can pull of anything.

Hope- I feel like The Lord has been speaking to me a lot about this lately. Every time I turn around something comes up. Whether it’s about hope, struggle, or suffering. We all have struggles.  We as F3 men have each other to lean on to get through these times but there are so many that don’t have that in their life. Take a moment to talk to people and see whats going on with them. It doesn’t always have to be an EH to a workout. That may not be what they need. As we say it’s more than just a workout! See if there is some way you can help create hope in someone’s life. Without hope what’s the point. I believe it was Billy Graham that said I have read the end of the Bible it’s going to be all right!

The New Loop

9 PAX showed at Midoriyama on Tuesday looking for a beatdown.

Warmup:

SSH x 25ic

Toy Soldiers x 10ic

Imperial Walkers x 10ic

The Thang:

They have been working on a new section they are adding to the park that will access the river and trail to McAdenville. I noticed it looked finished so we moseyed over just to check it out. It turns out there is a nice asphalt loop back in there. In total from our start it is a 1.5 miles loop. We stopped once for some Plank and Hops while we waited for the six. Plank then hop straight up to your feet in one motion.

Back at the start we found some blocks in my truck and really went to work. Partner up rotating between running the parking lot loop and doing the exercise.

1st- Overhead Lunges while partner runs. do 3 laps each

2nd-Press Sit-ups while partner runs. Hold block over head while doing a sit-up. do 3 laps each

3rd-Squat and Overhead Press while partner runs. Do 3 laps each.

Mumble Chatter

11 showed for a beatdown at the Fighting Yank. 2 being FNG’s. There would’ve been 12 but Skuiesshh had some kind of fashionista thing he was dealing with so he said he was adding 3 more miles to his already 8. It’s been a few months since I’ve been to the Yank so I was excited to be back. I’ve been on the road with the nomad crew. To be honest I was really just excited about the western omelet at Cherubs.

No one showed for the ghost flag. Brief disclaimer for the FNG’s and we got started.

Warmup:

SSH x 20ic

Don Quixte x 10ic

Tooltime seemed to enjoy the view of the Q so much I decided the next exercise should be monkey humpers.

Monkey Humpers x 10ic

Toy Soldiers x 10ic

Hillbilly’s x 10ic

Mosey to the ball field

The Thang:

Some time back The Mayor got us involved in a burpeethon to raise money for the Special Olympics. Great cause and event that I hope we all get involved in next year. Since we always need to be training I thought today would be a great time for it. We split into 2-4 man teams and 1-3 man team. Tooltime and Flush seem to have a habit of getting on the 3 man team. Take turns running out 20 yards and do 10 burpee’s until as a team you reach 300. Great job by all on this one even if you wanted to punch me in the face! That being said nothing brings out the mumble chatter like burpee’s. Especially this many. Well it wasn’t really mumbling as much as yelling and maybe some cursing.

Mosey to the corner in front of the school.

YHC advised the PAX we would be running to the point at the Main St intersection stopping at each intersection for 10 jump squats equaling to 60. Once the 6 arrived we turned around and did 5 merkins at each intersection.

Mosey to the pull-up bars.

Everyone planked while 2 PAX did 5 pull-ups then switched out until all had done a round. Rinse and repeat.

Mosey back to the Flag.

With a little time to spare we decided to do some ab mary. Tooltime called phiffer scissors x 10, Brownstreak called american hammers x 10ic, then I’m not sure who but someone called dying cockroaches x 15.

Announcements-Advisory board meeting Sunday at 7, Holiday party after the first of the year.

Named the FNG’s. Welcome Frog and Solomon. These guys did a great job on there first day out. They are obviously in pretty good shape already.

Moleskin:

So 4 of us went to Cherub’s but only 3 could stay for breakfast. So as I had stated previously I was really looking forward to that omelet. Well today’s menu was altered because of breakfast with Santa so no omelet could be had. I would have been a little more disappointed had I not gotten to see Santa. It was quit funny having three sweaty grown men piled into a restaurant of kids and families waiting for Santa. Don’t tell him I said it but I think Brownstreak really wanted to sit on his lap.

Mike and Joe

8 obviously ate to much and had to come burn some off the morning after Thanksgiving. A lot of others stayed in the fartsack and got fatter and sadder! I really had high hopes for a merlot this morning!

Warmup:

SSH x 20ic

Don Quixte x 10ic

Toy Soldiers x 10ic

Hillbilly’s x 10ic

Mosey to the parking deck

The Thang:

Sprint from one end to the other, do 5 Mike Tyson’s then Joe Hendrick’s up the ramp(crowd favorite). Rinse and Repeat to the top.

Rugby Sprints at the top with Flutters x too many!

5 Mike Tyson’s and Crabwalk down the ramp.

Partner up. Partner 1 runs down and back while partner 2 lunges in place. Rinse and repeat with Miranda Rights(this group seemed very familiar with this move).

Start the climb down the deck. Same as going up except with crab walks down the ramps. These were not tough enough so we modified to backwards crab walks.

Mosey to Corner of Franklin. YHC instructed we would mosey to Broad St and back around to Main St stopping at every intersection for 5 burpee’s. I believe this put us around 35 or 40 burpee’s.

Moleskin:

Great push by all this morning! You guys really hit it hard especially with it being the morning after Thanksgiving. I was a little disappointed no one was pushed to the brink of merlot. I really thought the dead cat in the middle of the sidewalk was going to do it. Tough group!

Thanks

7 showed at Folsom to burn so they could earn the morning of Thanksgiving. YHC had made some great cheesecake so I was serious about making room for a little extra! I came in a little hot as I’m not used to the morning post and didn’t quite have my commute time down pat. Traffic in Dallas can be crazy that time of the morning. Disappointed we still didn’t have any takers on the Ghost Flag we got started.

Warmup:

SSH x 15ic

Don Quixte x 10ic

Maybe something else but I’m really not sure.

Mosey to the shed

Prayer Request- PAX, Youth

Moleskin: Without getting all over the be thankful thing I am and told the PAX that posted how much I appreciate each one of you for pushing me and being there at each post. I constantly have to fight the inner fatboy/sadclown and do not have the fortitude of Dolph to regularly hit the gym or Pizza Man to run 18 miles by myself. So Thanks to you all!

Girls 3-1

5 Nomad PAX ventured out to check out Latta in Metro. We loaded up in Pizza Man’s burban, hit the road and the mumble chatter started. Many of the things said on these trips are probably best left out of a BB. However some wisdom is shared. This morning there was much said about the struggles of raising daughters. All present had at least one. It’s good to share these experiences with one another. We are all in the same “fight”! We talked about current issues and lessons learned. It was said that raising a daughter is like 3-1 compared to raising boys. That makes 9 kids for poor Whoopee!

Once again we met another great group of guys. Very welcoming and excited to have us out. I noticed during the workout(when we could breath) there were a lot of get to know you conversations between the PAX. I especially enjoyed what someone misinterpreted Ash Pond’s name to be. The Latta AO is Latta Park in what I believe is the Dilworth neighborhood. Nice park set in a nice older neighborhood. I really like the old craftsmen style homes and this place is full of them. It’s also conveniently located near CMC Main and a terrible parking deck. After moseying to the deck I was shocked at the ramps. I mean these things look like hills on the BRR and the first thing we do is NUR up one! The NUR seemed to be a favorite of the Q. From the top of the deck there is a great view of uptown which you could enjoy as you NURRED(?) some more. According to the tracker we did 3.1 miles. Most with a good bit of elevation change. A good beat down all together.

COT:  Alcatraz who knows Whoopee from the early years of doctoring reminded him he was coming up on his 8 year anniversary of having had colon cancer. Awesome that he cares enough to remember. Of course due to the name Ash Pond was called it sounds like it would be something he would keep up with(sorry had too)! Announcements were made and they respectfully asked one of the visitors to take us out. Thanks Def Leppard!

January and June

5 Nomads went to Mighty Jungle. Our first visit to the Isotope region. When we arrived we thought we were late as we saw PAX running through the parking lot with blocks. Luckily it was just the early crowd for the Gladiator workout. Some of which doubled up and joined us for the 7:00 workout(Beast). We spotted a large tire and knew we were in for a good one. The Q started it up and took us for a tour of the church and school grounds via an indian run. Lot of possibilities at this AO. Once we returned to the parking lot we did station work with blocks, sprints and tire flips but the best part was the last 15 minutes. We split our group into two teams of 8 and played some ultimate frisbee. Kind of like football with a frisbee. This part was still an excellent workout and put a smile on everyone’s face. There was a little competition and a little bit of blood spilled!

Yet again we have met another great group of guys. Very welcoming. Hope to see you all again soon!

So what does the tittle have to do with any of this? Well I won’t say but on the way home there was a restored Falcon on the interstate and I guess the mood was just right and…..well you just never know where a conversation will go when your on the road with the Nomads! Show to know!

Where a goat can go the PAX can go

So Midoriyama has a special feature that AO’s around here don’t have….A Mountain! 2 had climbed it once before and we have talked about doing again for some time. YHC figured since it has cooled down some and the leaves are changing it would be a good time to see the view from up there. That and of course we set the clocks back next week so Midoriyama will start posting in the gloom as well. There was a brief disclaimer about not knowing how much of the property belongs to the park and if the man comes it will be jailbreak time. We did a short warmup of the usual SSH’s, a few Hillbillies and imperial walkers then hit the mosey with the shovel flag in hand. We moseyed VIA the soccer loop trail and service road to the base stopping to do a few merkins and Al Gore’s. At the base YHC advised we would be walking from this point. The path up is the power line path and is nothing but rocks. Big rocks(some scaling is involved) and small rocks(easy to roll an ankle here). It is all straight up the side and about half way it gets pretty steep(leg burner). Everyone did a great job! Once we were at the top a few did hip slappers off the tower building wall. We posed for a pic and headed back down.
