Gastonia Site Qs

Site Qs have been identified for each of Gastonia’s AOs.  The site Q has the overall responsibility for workouts at those locations.

Site Qs have the following responsibilities…

  • Ensure each workout has a QIC scheduled 3-4 weeks ahead of time
  • If a QIC cannot be identified, the site Q will lead that workout
  • Update the Gastonia Q Schedule document on Google Drive
  • Ensure QICs are getting backblasts posted
  • Encourage new PAX to lead workouts, co-Q with guys on VQs, etc…

Fire Your Travel Agent!

16 of Gas House’s strongest “rock pushers” buckled in, reclined their First Class seats, and sipped Merlot with YHC on a short, relaxing one hour flight. Our final destination was Ball of Man but here’s what happened in between takeoff and landing…

The Thang:

COP:

  • Mosey downhill to the library parking lot
  • SSH X 15 IC
  • IW X 15 IC
  • LSSq X 15 IC
  • Merkins X 15 IC

Mosey downhill to other rear corner of library lot for first Triple 7

  • 7 merkins, run downhill to speed bump, 7 merkins, run loop, 7 merkins, run to start
  • Rinse/repeat twice more substituting squats and IWs for merkins

Mosey downhill to rear of First Presbyterian Church for second Triple 7

  • Run to hill, bear crawl downhill, 7 burpees, run to 2nd hill, bear crawl downhill, 7 burpees, run downhill to island, 7 burpees, return to start
  • Rinse/repeat twice more substituting merkins and Apollo Unos for burpees

Mosey downhill to “small church building” (YHC’s own designator) for third Triple 7

  • 3 pain stations: 1) stationary lunge X 7 each leg, 2) derkin/incline merkin (Irkin?) X 7 each on brick wall, 3) jump squats X 7 at bottom of stairs
  • Rotate through each pain station 3 times
  • Thanks Dolph for LBCing till PAX regrouped

Mosey downstairs for fourth Triple 7 (cut short to Double 7 for time sake)

Mosey downhill to front of Grier Middle School for “4 Corners of the Globe”

  • 5 stations: one at each corner of the field and one in the center (“Home”)
  • PAX split into 4 travelling groups and did 3 burpees at Home and then ran to designated corners to perform 7 reps of whatever exercise was listed in that corner, then ran Home again for 3 burpees and then counter-clockwise to the next corner….and repeat until all 4 corners were visited and we landed at Home and celebrated with 3 final burpees

Mosey downhill (truthful statement for once) to shovel flag for COT/BOM

  • Still had a minute before landing so 15 X American Hammer
  • Wheels down!

Announcements:

  • Today, 10:00a.m. – Martha Rivers Park – F3 Dads
  • 6/26, 7:00p.m. – at On the Border (Gastonia) – leadership advisory group meeting
  • 7/2, still need a 3rd F Q if anyone is interested – get details from Monk

Moleskin:

  • Many prayer requests today: way too many folks in this world fighting cancer or dealing with mental issues so overwhelming that they contemplate suicide. Prayers help but do what you can to lift these folks in their time of need – even if it’s done anonymously
  • Shout out to T-Square who’s been suffering with a kidney stone issue for over 2 weeks and is STILL posting at workouts! Billy Madison summed it up best by saying “That’s an F3 Man!” YHC has a paper cut (left pinkie…it hurts) – no prayers for me? JEEZZZ!
  • Dolph – we have posted together at probably 70 to 100 workouts – when will you stop being such a slacker??? At least TRY, would you? It’s embarrassing dude!
  • You all accumulated just over 3 frequent flyer miles today…WOW…only 999,997 to go to earn a burpee free workout!
  • Good call by Spud and good extra credit effort (post workout) by the PAX to send 22 merkins to our troops suffering PTSD and other ailments that lead to suicide
  • There were plenty of “midwife noises” during our journey (mostly from YHC) but in standard Gas House fashion, every warrior soldiered through and finished strong.
  • YHC honored his promise by making all running portions of the workout downhill – YOU ARE WELCOME!
  • Always an honor to post with you HIMs – thanks for allowing me to pilot this trip – AYE!

Flashback – Not So Dirty This Time

10 PAX posted as YHC reached back in the archives for a repeat of Martha’s House “Gettin’ Dirty” beatdown. Except this time it was on concrete and asphalt. I guess that makes this a clean version. YHC did take pleasure in leading the PAX through some terrible exercises with their 12’s and 6’s planted in the dirt cement. Here is how it went…

Disclaimer…

  • Q is not a professional
  • PAX is participating at own risk
  • PAX is responsible for their own well-being
  • PAX are here voluntarily, and are not paying to be here (well, at least in terms of dollars)
  • PAX need to know their limits and do what they can do

Warmup…

  • SSH x 20 IC
  • IW x 20IC
  • Merkins x 20 IC
  • CH Squats x 20 IC
  • MC x 20 IC
  • LBC x 20 IC
  • BOYO x 10

The Thang…
At a “fellowship pace”, the PAX mosey east thru the parking lot, behind FUMC 162 East, thru the FUMC FLC parking lot and eventually circle up at the convention center parking deck – level 1.

First round of the Thang is the Bear Crawl Escalator. With partner #SizeDoesNotMatter, PAX complete increasing reps of LBC and Squats (10, 20, 30, and 40 reps).  LBC would be done at bottom of hill on level 1, Bear Crawl to top of hill up ramp to level 2, Squats at top of hill, Bear Crawl down hill.  Then increase reps by 10 and repeat for total of 4 rounds.

In same location, with same partners, completed 55s.  With partner, PAX would complete decreasing reps (10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2 and 1) of Merkins and Carolina Dry Docks.  Similar to Bear Crawl Escalator, we did 10 Merkins, ran up, 10 Carolina Dry Docks, run down.  Then decrease reps by 1 and repeat for total of 10 rounds.

Next, after a short mosey to Picaso’s Playground for some shoulder dips and finally mosey back to the pavilion for the Pledge.

With time on the clock, and YHC totally smoked (not due to snotwoggler beatdown, but some sinus head cold crap that has been lingering all week), we finish with 7 MOM – people’s choice. Everyone got a chance to play.

Wrapped up with Name-O-Rama, COT and BOM.

Great work by everyone!

Bandit

Gashouse Remembers

What a wonderful Saturday morning beginning with DiVinci leading the 3rd F at 0630. #Jerimiah20 #TomSawyer #MeanMeanStride

Then at 0700, after our disclaimer, 18 PAX circled up for some warm-up including SSH, Merkins, Lunges and Flutter Kicks.

Mosey to flag & bellowed out the Pledge.

T-Square trashed his original weinke in exchange for an idea from Spud. T-claps to his input.

Moseyed up Garrison; stop at red light & hit some LBC’s.

Mosey over & up Dixon. Stop for some Flutter Kicks.

Finish moseying up Dixon to New Hope. Stop at corner & get some Slo-Mo Don Quixotes.

Mosey up to corner at Robinwood. Got in some reps of something I can’t remember.

Mosey up to Gaston Memorial. Now for the cool part. Mosey into GM & up to Memorial Wall of Fallen Service Folks. Took a few minutes to reflect. SUPER COOL. HUMBLING!

Moseyed back toward Sherwood School. But we had to stop along New Hope, with our backs to traffic, knock out some Monkey Humpers (by request of Flush). Finished up first half at Sherwood & passed remaining time to The Bandit.

In the parking lot at Sherwood, we partnered up for Eleven’s with Burpees and LBCs. This is 10 reps of burpees on one side of parking lot, run to other side for 1 rep of LBC. Continue back and forth across parking lot with reps of each exercise increasing and decreasing respectively (i.e. 9/2,8/3,7/4, etc…). Watching the clock carefully, called Oklahoma (that is Bandit-speak for Omaha) after 5 rounds.

With the clock counting down, Bandit was working to get the PAX back to the starting point before the stagecoach turned into a pumpkin. Next we ran a short distance to the track and stopped at the hill to finish up our parter-Elevens – this time with LBC at the bottom and squats at the top (6/5, 5/6, 4,7, etc…).

After a quick countdown, Bandit lead the PAX through Sherwood Forest and to the parking lot at First Pres for a short up hill lunge walk before a quick run back to the Scheile parking lot for some plank work and to finish off with those favorite dying cockroaches.

We finished with the COT. Great to see F3 continue to grow in Gastonia. Welcome to FNG Jason Austell (Woodstock) who closely evaded the Mary Poppins moniker by a slim margin. We finished today remembering those soldiers and service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety and freedom. For them, we are truly grateful.

Great work men! Humbled and honored to lead F3 Gastonia PAX.

T-Square/Bandit

Non-Stop Cardio Beatdown

As usual the PAX met at Snowball’s parking lot. There were 10. As we gathered, bets were pondered on whether Spiderman would post, and if so, would anyone see him arrive. HOW DOES HE DO THAT?

Warm Up

  • SSH IC X 10
  • Mericans IC X 10
  • Don Quixote IC X 10
  • Imperial Walker IC X 10
  • Mountain Climber IC X 10

The Thang(s)

Mosey to Martha Rivers parking lot for a round of Johnny Cash (mistakenly called Ring of Fire, but similar). Each man in circle (i.e. the Ring of Fire) does 1 Merican in sequence while rest of PAX planks. We did total of 10 rounds (for English majors that is 10 Mericans each).

Mosey through parking lot, and eventually picnic benches next to field 4 where we completed Shoulder Dips IC x 20. After a quick countdown, we continued with another set IC x 5. I think we might have thrown in a quick set of SSH IC x20.

Mosey to field 4 for some 4 Corners OYO with 10 Mericans, 20 CDDs, 30 Squats and 40 LBCs. PAX planks for the 6. Rinse and repeat once again.

Mosey across field 4 and then a few short hill climbs. Up the hill, into the woods a short ways, then back down the hill. Rinse and repeat. After that we did three sets of Dying Cockroaches IC x 20, x 10, x5 (last ones were done SLOW for extra crispy burn).

Mosey back to Martha Rivers parking lot, stopping outside the restrooms to use the wall for 3 sets of Donkey Kicks. IC x 10.

Mosey back towards Snowballs, stopping along the way for 20 reps of Little Baby Dips along the curb.

Last mosey gets us all the way back to Snowballs parking lot where we finished up.

About 7 MOM – People’s Choice…

  • Mericans IC x 5 (Flintstone)
  • Mericans IC x 10 (Hushpuppy – who cut in line)
  • Scissor Kicks IC x 40 (Stroganoff – who graciously waited his turn, and un-graciously drove PAX to death by Scissor Kicks)
  • Ski Abs IC x 20? (Short Sale)
  • WWI Sit Ups IC x 20? (Monk)
  • Mason Twists IC x 20 (T-Square)
  • Freddy Mercury IC x 20 (JJ)
  • LBC IC x 20 (EZ Rider)
  • Homer/Marge (Courtesy of Squeeker – however many it was, it was too many)

Naked Man Moleskin

There was absolutely NO resting today. There was even some whisper’s about a mutiny – of course YHC did not care (or believe it). Tried to keep a quick pace between exercises to really get the cardio going. While there were rumors among the PAX of the driving force behind the accelerated pace, none were either confirmed or denied. If anyone want’s their money back… TOO BAD! Oh, in case you were wondering, Spiderman fart sacked, but no one lost any money.

We finished up with COT. Prayer request for Stroganoff’s family as his father-in-law (battling cancer) was readmitted to the hospital, also to Monk’s graduating college students (and many others) looking for jobs, T-Square’s family going through loss of loved ones, and a church member/friend of Hush Puppy’s who lost her husband.

I’m glad to be here! Always a pleasure to lead among this group of #HIM!

1000

27 pax dared to show their face this morning. One things for sure I was not expecting that! Which 10 or 11 at 3rd F before the workout I was shocked to see the cars roll in. We had some visitors from Stanley come join us this Morning (Slaw and Def Leppard and 2 of the 7 FNGs). Tool Time had a crew with him accounting for 4 FNGs and 1 loner FNG. 27 was the final number at start time. So with conversations flying around and others starting rumors of a beatdown it was TIME TO START!

Disclaimer for all but really for the FNGs. You know the speech. Do what you can, listen to your body, I’m an idiot……..

Warmarama:

10ic windmills, 20ic Moroccan Night a clubs, mosey around parking lot with High knees, butt kicks, side steps both sides. Then a mosey to the flag for pledge.

The Thang:

We started the work out straight from the pledge flag. We had a lot of ground to cover and a lot of exercises to hit. The goal was a 1,000 reps of different exercises. So with the goal and location mapped out we was off.

We took off toward Ollies parking lot. We stopped three times just to keep everyone together and to start on those reps.

Made it to Ollies parking lot and used the endless lot of aisles to continue the ground coverage and reps. Up and down each aisle with 25 reps of called exercise. Too many to remember but you get the idea.

After making it about 8 rows in time was getting away from us. We started back toward the museum. Stopping along the way again to keep everyone together and to keep getting reps.

We make it back to the museum and circle up. Tool time yells out BURPEES!!! No!!! No Burpees were done in this work out. Through out the morning they was called out but NO. I promised no Burpees and I was keeping my promise. By this time it was TIME to end.

COT.

Moleskin:

We lost a FNG early, not sure what happened but hope he comes back out.

I want to give a shout out to Da Vinci. He really pushed it today and never stopped. Well done Sir!!! Everyone did great as well. A lot of ground covered. We did 3.27 miles and 500 reps of 20 different exercises. Always a honor to lead this group. Til next time!!

For the record. I mentioned visitors from Stanley. I have to admit that I got Stanley and Shelby mixed up but none the less it was great to have return guys with FNGs.

Aye!

Wetter Than A Goat In The Rain

It was raining. Most of the PAX fart sacked. Top Hat and Bandit did not! Good thing we had two PAX, as all exercises were w/ partner.

The Thang (as best as I recall)…

  • Mosey to side of sub shop
  • Bear Crawls (P1) & Wall Push (P2), flip flop
  • Lunge (P1) & Wall Push (P2), flip flop
  • Mosey to Wall of Shame
  • Up Stairs, 5 BOYO, Down Stairs (P1) & Wall Push (P2), flip flop
  • Run around building (P1), CDD (P2)
  • Mosey around the block to Pavilion for presents. 8 cinder blocks for 2 PAX. Yikes!
  • Dora 1-2-3 with Shoulder Press, Biceps Curls, Triceps Curls while partner runs. Even threw in some toe taps.

We finished. We carried 8 cinder blocks back to Top Hat’s trunk. It was still raining.

Aye. Nice workout, Top Hat!

Gashouse Tag Team

There was no devious, contemplated pain plan in play this morning, just a regular, old-fashioned tag team beatdown. Although there was some rivalrous banter on the Twitter Machine (Roscoe vs. The Bandit), in the end there was no clear looser (except #fartsackers). Everyone who posted to Gashouse left better than they when the arrived. Great to have friends from Mountain Island Lake (El Tigre, Pinky and Hambone) and 2 FNGs join us today.

Warmup
Bandit took the lead to warm up the crowd with 20-rep sets of SSH, Mericans (recent neglect of upper body workouts apparent, and the PAX notice EVERYTHING), Imperial Walkers, Peter Parkers and Toy Soldiers. Then a quick mosey to Old Glory for the Pledge.

The Thang – Part 1
After the pledge, Roscoe led the PAX across the road and moseyed to the back of the office for some work. In the back parking lot we did some Joe Hendrix backwards bear crawl up the hill to the other side and then some dips IC. Bunny Hops down the hill and then lunge walks back up.

Roscoe then let a mosey behind the church to Sherwood Elementary track and playground for some elevens. One Merkin and then run across the track (sixty yards?) to the playground for ten pull-ups and back across for two Merkin , run back for nine pullups, etc until 10 Merkin and one pull-up. Not a lot of chatter because there was no air available to speak.

We planked for the six and then did some Al Gore until FNG “Slaw” who was the designated time keeper said we were at the halfway point of the workout, at which point it was turned over to the Bandit.

The Thang – Part 2
After a short mosey to First Presbyterian’s parking lot, we partnered up for a mini Dora 1-2-3. It was 50 Merkins, 100 LBCs and 150 Squats.

The Thang – Part 3
Bandit continued the journey with a mosey through the parking lot, across Garrison Blvd and down to the track at Greer MS. Stepping in, Roscoe led the PAX in a set of calf raises before turning things back to Bandit for 5 rounds of Burpee Suicide Sprints. This is 5 burpees OYO, sprint to the 30 yd line and back. Rinse and repeat. While Bandit called Omaha (not Oklahoma) to stop at 4 rounds, clearly, the word did not make it around to all.

Regardless while everyone recovered Bandit paused to share some wisdom from Freed to Lead. Pogo40 (inconsistent fitness), the Sifter (loneliness) and The Reacher (lack of purpose) are the three classic symptoms of SadClown Syndrome (happy outside, sad inside). F3 provides us with a solution the fills these holes in our lives through fitness, fellowship and faith.

Wrap Up
With our intermission complete, and PAX respiration restored, we head back to the Schiele’s parking lot and finish with a few rounds of Mary. Roscoe finishes us off with the Protractor at the end for FNG “MS DOS” that showed up early for the 8am workout (uh, we don’t have one of those).

Prayer requests: Hot for Teacher’s Mother in law, great news about Billy Madison’s wife’s cancer being gone!

May the 4th Be With You

F3 Gastonia tweeted the prior evening that Stroganoff had the Q, but was quickly and harshly reprimanded by Mr. Wolkfpack Grinder himself. Turns out YHC had the Q for the imperial beatdown on this 4th day of May (national Star Wars day or something). 10 PAX made the effort today and chose to take the DRP and were ready to go – except for Hush Puppy who was coming in hot and had to make up SSH to get caught up.

Here is what was done… disclaimer first, then the pledge.

Warm Up

  • Side Straddle Hop x20 IC
  • Mountain Climbers x20 IC
  • Moroccan Night Clubs x40 IC
  • Peter Parkers x20 IC
  • Toy Soldiers x20 IC

The Thangamajigger
Mosey to Martha Rivers, but instead of the normal left turn at the entrance, we unexpectedly continued to the service entrance near the baseball fields. Just the first of several deceptions. We continued Linus-clockwise around the baseball fields. YHC was looking for a good place for a COP so we stopped on the backside (there was a bit more light) and waited for one straggler. Turns out this was not a straggler, it was some future-FNG running on his own. How would you like to be running in park with no light and have 10 guys stop on the trail waiting for you to pass through? Dude just trucked right through – NoFear! We all got a good laugh and continued to find a suitable place for the COP. Ultimately we mosey to the pavillion inside the baseball fields.

The next exercise is… the LBC x30 IC.

Then we hit the pavement again. This time we head out the north spoke regular-clockwise for 1/4 lap around the baseball fields and back to the pavillion.

The next excercise is… Peter Parker x20 IC. YHC has a breaktrough discovery. Peter Parker’s are just Mountain Climbers at half-tempo. Just to check, we do MC x10 IC. Yep… kinda similar like.

You got it… Mosey. This time we head south (Linus-clockwise) for 1/2 lap around the fields and back to pavillion.

The next excercise is… Plankorama

Then mosey east and go clockwise for 3/4 lap and back to pavillion.

The next excercise is… Russian Twist x20 IC.

Next we mosey east for 1 lap around the fields and back to pavillion.

The next excercise is… Dying Cockroach x20 IC.

Times almost up so we head back towards Pelicans. But we have two stops along the way… first, we hit the curp for 3 sets of Baby Dips (20 reps, 15 reps, 10 reps), mosey a bit more and knock out 10 Mericans IC before we get back to parking lot.

Total milage = 2.5 miles.

Finished with COT, Namorama and BOM.

Is That a Manhole Cover or a Merlet?

Not sure why “Splashing Merlot” is not found in the F3 lexicon as its used quite liberally among the PAX to describe involuntary, forceful expulsion of the contents of one’s stomach through the mouth and sometimes the nose during, or as the result of a beat down (often linked to an FNGs first post).  I noticed this today as I wanted to see if “Merlet” was officially in the F3 lexicon.  Apparently not.  We’ll get back to this shortly.

It was a comfortable 64 degrees in downtown Cramerton as 8 PAX gathered to get uncomfortable. While there were no FNGs today, it was great to meet Soprano who made his first workout just the day before. We started with the full disclaimer, the Pledge of Alegience and then a short run across the bridge to the Goat Island park.  Noticed we were missing the battle call, “TAKE THE BRIDGE!”  Looking forward to BA’s return after softball season!

Warm Up

SSH x20 IC
Mericans x10 IC
Low Slow Squat x20 IC
Toy Soldier x10 IC
Body Builders x10 IC (8 count)
Stretch (right over left, reach for toes, flapjack)
Rinse and Repeat X2

During first round of Mericans we tried something new (for me at least)… start in plank, in cadence, ONE (down), TWO (push up to plank), THREE (right arm up & alternate each rep), FOUR (back to plank). Good alternative to the standard Merican for a dynamic stretching warm-up – if you really reach.

After the warmup we ran across the other bridge to the parking lot for a quick count-off. Yep… still have 8.

Next is the Merican Suicide Ladder. Starting next to the rancid trash can (yeah, sorry about that guys), we run 25 yards to the manhole cover and back, do set number of Mericans, then rinse and repeat X6. Since this is a ladder which infers we are climbing, we increase reps of Mericans by 5 for subsequent rounds. It went like this…

Run 25 yards and back to start
Complete 5 Mericans
Repeat x6
(Total 300 yards and 30 Mericans)

Run 25 yards and back to start
Complete 10 Mericans
Repeat x5
(Total 250 yards and 50 Mericans)

Run 25 yards and back to start
Complete 15 Mericans
Repeat x4
(Total 200 yards and 60 Mericans)

Grand total is about 1/2 mile and 140 Mericans. Oh yeah, it turns out the manhole cover was not what it seemed. Brownstreak keenly recognized this as a “Merlet”, or the artifact of Splashing Merlot. It was about the same size as the manhole cover, but more chunky-like. Did anyone leave that from last week’s Goat Island beat down? Uh, cleanup in isle one.

Once we recovered from this pain station, we started with a run back to the middle of the park, but as YHC began to head back, I was somewhat drawn to the hill to the left of the trail on the way back for an impromptu round of Elevens. Burps (10,9,8,etc…) at the bottom and LBCs (1,2,3,etc…) at the top.

Next we run back to the middle of the park for a brief motivational speech before continuing back to the parking lot where we started. With 1 minute remaining, we finish strong with Dying Cockroaches.

Moleskin
Remember to keep pushing the rock. It doesn’t get any easier, you just get stronger. This is true in fitness, in your relationships with others, and in your faith. Man can only see what is beside and in front of him. He cannot see what is coming up from behind. That is why we lock shields with our brothers who can check our six. At some point, the unexpected can catch us by surprise and that is when we most need our brothers to be there for us.

Aye!
