November Pain

Omaha happened before the workout began as YHC approached the circle at the Sandlot where 4 HIM’s gathered in the drizzly gloom. Original plan called for a mosey to Martha Rivers Park, but the uncertainty of precipitation led to modification. YHC planted The Ricky Bobby shovel flag (filling in while Flintstone took a Clown-Car detour to Lake Wylie) and at 0530 promptly moseyed across the street to the former bank drive-thru (a conveniently large covered area).  Brief disclaimer and warm-up of Side-straddle hops, Imperial walkers (15xIC each), and Merkins (10xIC).

The Thang:  Do an exercise until the first PAX reaches the specified number of reps and calls “Done!” then run a lap around the building and repeato. Twist in the rules = same PAX cannot finish first for 2 exercises in a row. Exercises were:
25 hand-release merkins
50 Bonnie Blairs (single count)
75 flutter kicks (count one leg)
100 Nolan Ryans (single count / 50 each side)
125 Air presses
150 Rocky Balboas (count one side)
125 mountain climbers
100 LBC’s
75 plank jacks
50 big-boy situps
25 hand-release merkins

Let the rules relax a bit on the Big Boys as YHC finished first and called these as well as the 75 plank jacks.  However, no good deed goes unpunished, and YHC landed a full right foot into a huge puddle at the very end of the last lap.  C’est la vie, just keep pushing ahead.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, PAX opted for a Lazy Dora routine; partners teamed up to complete 100 merkins (one partner doing merkins while the other holds plank). After that, 3 minutes of Mary took us to the end.  Mosey back across the street for Pledge and COT.

All those under mental stress or anxiety.  November and December are especially tough in many ways.  We say this a lot but it can never be overemphasized:  Reach out to someone if you need support.  And, if you don’t need support, reach out to someone because you are the support.  Today, I’m grateful for the privilege to lead 3 HIM’s who provided the support I needed for a great start to this week.

Tribute

8 showed up at Old School on Saturday. Part of the workout had already been advertised as I notified via slack, along with other AO’s,  that we would be doing the Chicken Little WOD. Several put in some EC around the usual loop.

Warmup:

Some stuff with some burpees

The Thang:

Chicken Little WOD-

200 meter run

24 merkins

24 burpees

24 WWII’s

Rinse and repeat for 24 minutes

After that we moved around town stopping at every block for 15 CDD’s, 10 Lunges, 5 Flying Squirrels. At some point that changed to 15 Diamond merkins, 10 Squats, 5 Flying Squirrels.

We made our way back around to the Holland st incline for a triple nickel of Diamond merkins and squats.

DO NOT PUT A FROZEN TURKEY IN A DEEP FRYER! Just heard that on the news and thought I’d throw that in!

Back at the AO we did some LBFC’s to finish it off.

COT:

I’ve had a Double Mtn Candy so I’m tired of struggling through this. Bye Felicia!

GasHouse 11/20

Painlab and bootcamp combined for a workout to honor Chicken Little.  Had a short warmup of SSH, Imperial Walkers, grass pickers and some stretches.  Pledge

Mosey to track at Greer where YHC had some blocks.  Six stations written in chalk around the track.  Each station had a block except one.  Over head press, swings, chest press, curls, blockies, hand release merkins.  In honor of Chicken Little we did 24 reps at each station except blockies, those were 10.  Keep moving station to station.

Mosey back for some Mary.  Time.

YHC mentioned how giving your all in workouts is important.  It helps in getting comfortable with being vulnerable and asking for help.  That is a hard thing for many of us to do.  Giving your all in the workouts gives a chance for your brother to lift you up.  It also helps in asking for help at times when more is at stake.

Man Park!

Eight PAX showed for some exercise and a good word.  We scattered in several directions… Man Down!  About 10 steps into my workout I stumbled on you guessed it, Dallas sidewalk irregularities, took a roll but ended right back up without missing a beat.  I’m OK!  After a few short laughs we were back at it.  All PAX returned around 06:00 for a continuation of the verse from Sunday’s Q-Source on Failure.

Romans 5:3-4 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Goal Setting and Execution

11 Strong at Folsom with a simple goal of getting to the flag at the park entrance.

The thang was simple. We went back, forth and all around stopping to do 10 Merkins and 10 Big Boys along the way. After finally reaching our goal,  Spackle counted 22 for the vets at the flag. We then took a mosey back to start stopping for some burpees along the way.

The Grapes of Wrath…

It was quite the chilly morning when I arrived early for Downtown.  No other PAX in sight so I drove Main Street counting  light poles to figure out if I could use them in my weinke.  Back to the parking lot, getting a little concerned cause still no one had arrived.  Then in pulls the Slaw mobile.  Shortly after, a couple others.  In total 5 PAX embraced the cold.  Slaw emerged from his vehicle sporting a bright neon yellow top that would have easily rivaled the Times Square Waterford crystal ball but it was what he DIDN’T wear that started the mumblechatter.  You guessed it, with the onset of cold weather it was time to smuggle the grapes!!! 🤢  I, being of such high class and having much respect for my fellow F3er’s last meal, had shorts covering my tights that morning.  So of course I quickly shed those when Slaw approached with a big grin and said it was that time of year again!  Time for some werk!

A short warmup (probably wouldn’t have passed a Westside scrutiny) followed by the Chicken Little WOD.  Tried to make a criss-cross thing work under the Pavilion involving bear crawls & bouyah merkins but it didn’t turn out like I had planned.  Oh well, we dang sure worked our shoulders regardless.  We finished up with some wall work at W Main & MLK Blvd.  Small crowd but loads of fun!
