New Year’s Convergence 2024

33 pax posted to Martha’s to start the year off right.  Several even posted an hour early for either a run or ruck (Thanks to JJ and Hunchback for leading)

Our new nantan Flintstone started us off with some words of wisdom about not resting on the accomplishments of the past but to keep up the hard work.  Then after introducing the 2024 SLT, YHC took over to discuss finding your why.  In the mission statement there is a “what” part  and a “why” portion.  What – Plant grow and serve small men’s workout groups.  Why – For the invigoration of male community leadership.   We all post to make ourselves healthier but there needs to be a more significant Why to our drive.  For me it is to provide an example to my patients.  To lead by example – patients do not take advice from a fat doc.  My hope is that my patients may be inspired to take control of their health.  We all need to “Find our why”… With all that being said it was time to get after it.

With the turning of the calendar it is important to take stock in where you are.  You cannot know where you are going if you do not know where you are.  Therefore we broke up into 5 groups and performed 10 exercises in AMRAP format.  Exercises were Burpees, Curls, Merkins, Kettlebell swings, Squats, Chest Press, Big Boys, Thrusters, Triceps curls and Overhead press.  Thanks to Flintstone, Sister Act, Balljoint and Roscoe to act as proctors for each group.  “No rep” was heard frequently at least from one proctor.  With 15 minutes left we moseyed to the soccer field for a relay race.  Each team member ran the length of the field do 3 burpees and tag the next runner.  Congrats to team 4 for being the fastest group to complete the race.

It is important to remember that just like today there are times to push yourself for yourself but more importantly there are times to push yourself for the betterment of your team and fellow man.

Festivus Part 2?

Is Festivus a week long holiday?  Must be since there was a lot of bitchn on the run.  Despite near perfect conditions pax were heard grumbling about post-Christmas party hangovers and generalized gluttony.  Those who made it out also stayed for some words of wisdom from chapter 6 on Perseverance from Wisdom of the Bullfrog.

New Year’s Day Convergence Pre-blast

Dredd knew that New Year’s is a good time to take stock in where you are in life.  That is why 13 years ago, as he identified sad clown syndrome, he chose New Year’s Day as a motivating day to launch this thing we now call F3.  Sad clown syndrome is still prevalent.  It’s grasp on men is unshakable without constantly assessing where we are on our journey.  Many have started but have fallen off the path.  And although the syndrome is multifaceted one of the main aspects is a tendency toward physical indifference and decline.   That’s why the first section of Q source is titled “Get Right.”

As your new 1st F Q I am here to help, advise, and motivate your 1st F.  To get the year off on a good start I thought it would be a good idea to assess our current level of fitness.  You cannot know where you are going unless you know where you are.

On New Year’s Day at 7 am at Martha Rivers we will have a Convergence/Assessment.  All other AO’s will be closed. This will not be an annihilation type workout but rather a true you vs you workout.  How fast are you, how strong are you what kind of endurance do you have?  Did you slide at the end of 2023?  Are you stagnating in your growth?  Or are you at the top of your game?  Now is the time to find out where you are and determine where you want to be.  There will be multiple proctors there to encourage and provide candor on form and technique.  I also plan to repeat this assessment later in the year to track your progress.  Now is the time to stop making excuses and start making changes.  So set your alarm, shake off the hangover, grab a block, and drag your lazy ass down to Martha’s House on Monday January 1 and recognize that now is the best time for you get right.

Benevolence

7 HIM, one FNG and YHC posted for a brisk morning beatdown.  I have been EH’ing a neighbor of mine and finally got him to commit today.  Welcome Bullwinkle!

After a quick disclaimer here is what we did

Warmup SSH, Merkins, Burpees, LBC and Imperial Walkers.

 

Mosey to Martha’s after reviewing the Credo we proceeded with 11’s with Merkins and LBCs with Burpees in the middle. It seems that I may have become somewhat predictable as Stroganoff seems to anticipate my every move.   Mosey too Soccer field.  4 corners stacking 10 Burpees, 20 American Hammers, 30 CDDs and 40 flutters.  Then de-escalate backwards to first corner.  Getting near time we began the long mosey back but not before knocking out 25 dips, 26 Step ups and 10 Derkins at he picnic tables.  Finally, mosey back but stopping at each light pole for 5 merkins before a prison break to Pelicans.  Time for namorama and naming of the FNG.  Bullwinkle comes to us originally from a small town in Saskatchewan that rhymes with a female body part.  Lucky for him I was benevolent enough to look past that for his nickname.

9 HIM posted for a ruck or run then stayed for a discussion on whether or not after your make decisions you can stand before the “long green table”.  In the military when soldiers make questionable decisions they must defend themselves in front a panel of experts.  The chapter focuses on thinking through your decisions beforehand but to also stand by your convictions once you make them.
