Tag: The Pub (Page 4 of 19)

The Pub was serving before 0700

So on the way to Pub Sargento was tailgating me and there was almost a road rage incident.  (However, he was early so credit is due!)

The Pub was muggy this morning, something Defib blamed on YHC (Q-Fail).

By popular demand we decided to run a different way and during the mostly non-existent disclaimer, it was a shorter route that you would have to add to if you wanted 5 miles.  Broke liked that it was shorter and signaled so by saying “Good” when I announced it would be different than most of our regular 5 mile routes.

The route was Gaston Day School Road, right on New Hope, left into the far Ashbrook HS parking lot (parallel to Dunkin Donut fence) and all the way to the back drive that leads to the Driver’s Ed track where YHC learned to take hot laps in a ‘Vette.  It was a Chevette.  I am not sure anyone knew that the secret driving track existed but now you know!  We learned there are cross country trails back there that have not been explored by F3 but maybe one day.   Hitting two miles on the single track driveway down the hill,  a few “hot laps” were in order to increase the mileage.  Some chose to run up the hill and go around the big parking lot.  Dr. Seuss was out front and thankfully remembered to turn at Dunkin so good job there, but he almost went the wrong way leaving the Pub.  Good grief!

The route had some hills and was a little different but everyone finished and seemed to enjoy it more than most Pub runs, or so it has been written here.

There’s an extra hill that way

Let’s be honest. YHC is tired from being on the computer for work all week. So we are going to do the highlights in bullet form. At least it’s getting done the same day.

  • Clavin noted that YHC getting there by 526 was early. That was truth.

  • Sargento was trying to place F3 stickers on cars. Pretty sure some of them were not F3 PAX. Debate later on proper sticker placement.

  • When the route was announced, an unamed PAX noted there was an extra hill that route. Yes. HTFU

  • Route to the Armory down Robinwood. OK, down to the Greenway. OK, Captain Obvious, the sign past the Greenway.

  • Passed a car going down Hoffman with no lights on. Genius material.

  • Strong work by all.

Pub Run

The Big Cheese with another trip around the sun

Today’s BB is in recognition of Sargento’s birthday.  Before we go there, here is what we did.

The route today was all flat.  Gaston Day towards New Hope, left on  E. Perry, right on Lee, left on New Hope, right on Armstrong, right on Armstrong and back home to the Pub.  It was easy.

Now as far as Sargento, he arrived extremely early by his standards.  He had maybe 4 minutes to spare when he pulled in on a slightly cooler morning.  He was suffering from the patented bed head.  He has graced F3 Gastonia for going on 6 years and we are forever grateful for his leadership.  He is a fine family man and example to follow and is always a lot of fun to be around and doesn’t take himself too seriously.  His playlists are special (except the Cinco De Mayo music he played during Purple Haze’s Q at the Ricky Bobby yesterday)

To be honest, no one realized it was Sargento’s birthday this morning as he didn’t say anything about it.  #Humble

Had we known, perhaps the Q would have let Sargento decide the Pub route today, as long as it didn’t involve sidewalks that end in mud.  Perhaps Dr. Seuss would have been there, or perhaps other Pub regulars would have been there.  Maybe we would have even sung Happy Birthday to him.  No one really knows why the numbers were down today, but if we don’t have at least ten PAX next week, YHC is going to reach out to 1FQ Guy, whoever he is, to enforce attendance.

On this day, there were prayer requests for Turtleman, Big Pappy, Sister Act, and Slim Shady’s dad.

There is one praise request, and that is for the big cheeser himself, the one and only Sargento.  Happy Birthday my friend.

Roscoe

Missed it by that much

Arrive with 4 minutes and there’s only 2 other pax …. Well maybe it’s the temps or the closeness to summer ….. but wait headlights and more headlights …. What’s up!!! Suddenly with one minute to go Broke is counting and I do as well only to come up with 15!!
Pledge and announce the run is to Snoballs and back …. I even utilize the wise words of JJ to “ Go half as far as you wish and return!” Although for me …. It’s the Full Monty …. I dont announce but I intend to complete the trek to Snoballs ( whether it’s to try and find the elusive Whoopee sized Diablo ( or perhaps it will surface on one of the eleven upcoming dates for his Q as he can’t remember his birth date and just chose random numbers !) but I DO plan on reaching that first goal and the second goal is to do this in under 45 minutes.

Did
He
Do
It
?
Well, check out the title …. Even though I reset timer on phone upon reaching Snoballs and took a 4 second break ( which may be what cost me) my time on the return trip was 1 minute less !! I would finish at 6:16 and 10 seconds …. My goal was a return to preCovid when Tool Time came over to Q and his being there helped influence me to finish 9 seconds before 45minutes !!

this addition is to let those who’ve asked about the splits :

trip down to Snoballs was 23:43 and return was 22:07

Today was an amazing run nevertheless as there were so many present and I thought back to when Monk posted alone and was wondering whether The Pub could make payroll ( and continue ?) look at us NOW!!
Several pax reached out to me night before and I’m so pleased to say they all posted …. This is a very good route but I believe the calls were influenced some by my route choice!
Roscoe praised all who either gave monies and or time to support GSM
Praises were also deservedly given to Roscoe for putting together
Prayers for law enforcement of Watauga county ( Boone area) and indeed ALL law enforcement

The Pub 4/8/2021

Other than pollen so thick it looks like fog, and YHC making the mistake of eating sushi the night before, it was a good morning for a run. We ran the standard route to Martha’s and back and saw a few funny looking guys wearing their 2.0’s book bags along the route.

I’m Broke

Old People Doing Stuff like some April Fools

Awe shucks, just another dadburn day in the gloom to push the rock. Golly pete, these phrases should remind you of the recently retired, plaid wearing coach that so many PAX revere, ‘ole Roy Williams. If you ask me he should’ve done this years ago.

Gosh darn, if 14 HIM didn’t show today. There was a strong showing of old farts out today too so YHC decided to keep the route super easy so as not to get them lost like some dementia ridden assisted living residents. Here’s what happened…

Leave The Pub heading west on Hoffman, take a right on Robinwood, go to the “stop ahead” sign just past the greenway entrance, turn around and go back to the start.

Batflippers Dr Seuss, Waterboy and Defib paced the group as expected, then the rest of us trickled in over the next bit.

Seuss had to leave early and as he was leaving I mentioned that he wasn’t going to get credit for today’s workout because he had been warned several times before about running in the middle of the street with traffic without proper reflective attire. I said the group couldn’t continue to sit by and watch such a flagrant disregard for safety and that he wouldn’t get credit. He didn’t take to kindly to me suggesting he wouldn’t be credited with the workout. I was lucky to dodge him running me over as he peeled out from the parking lot on two wheels in a blind rage. Very uncharacteristic.

April fools, Seuss, you will get credit after all. Haha! Please take it easy and don’t try running over anyone else.

Thanks for letting me lead today men! Aye!!!

Prayer Requests: Unspoken, Roscoe’s father-in-law, Turtleman, Breaker’s stepdad Don, Smudge’s mom, Roscoe’s cousin Kenny having back surgery
