Tag: The Pub (Page 3 of 19)

Defib and his band of Merry Men

Today at the PUB we had some EC going on.  Defib and Flintstone went for a 3 mile EC mosey before the workout.
Time Frame had the sub Q for Diablo Sammich and had Tube and just as we left the lot, Bandit and Goose appeared for a ruck! #Kotter

Sargento was there before the beginning of the run but left with several minutes to spare so he didn’t get credit for the BB.  You hate to see it.

Anyway, YHC decided to call the Dangerous Route.  There was some debate on whether this was the original PUB route.  Anyway, a disclaimer was given to jump the guard rail if the stretch without a sidewalk was too precarious.  Also, instructions were given to mosey behind the Walgreens to avoid the stretch where there is no outlet. #safetyfirst

We ran and once we crossed New Hope we go down on Pamela.  There seemed to be unspoken performance anxiety at that point.  Anyway, once we were on our way up Gardner Park Drive there were some ladies approaching on the right.  Termite puffed out his chest and then took a spill so we stopped and collected what was left of him.  We let him lead at that point to ensure his safety and he broke away for the next little bit, obviously energized by the shock of the spill and adrenaline dump.

We arrived back to start and everyone was better for it.

Backwards Toward the Bank

YHC has had a long day which started about 0052 this morning so this will be brief.

YHC moseyed to The Pub and found the PAX stretching and catching up, or getting in some EC.

Route was announced. Reverse route down Armstrong, left turn on Armstrong, left turn at the bank and onto New Hope, right on E Lee, left on E Perry, right on Armstrong.

The Pledge. And we’re off…

Some ran that route, some did another route, some got turned around. Good work put in by all.

Lucky 11

Yes, March 17th is Saint Patrick’s Day. It is also my youngest 2.0’s birthday. So he would play into the choice for the route on this day’s mosey through SOGA.

YHC ran the usual 1-mile EC into The Pub to find other PAX also running all over The Pub lot. There was so many folks in motion that YHC did a double-check on my watch to make sure YHC wasn’t an hour late. Whoopee, Roscoe, and Stroganoff were coming from the far end, Breaker was coming up by McDonald’s, and Waterboy ran up behind me from Gaston Day School Rd. You can tell we are in the heart of relay and race season with all the work being put in.

PAX gathered together. It was good to see Burgandy back with us. Strava tells me that he’s putting in work all the time, but it was good to have him run with us.

The Pledge.

The route. My M had painted the rock at Hawk’s Nest for our 2.0’s birthday so we were going to mosey by it on the way to Martha’s and back to check out her artwork.

Some of us ran in a group and got to hear Waterboy’s fascinating tales of his time in Indonesia. If you can keep up with him, it’s work it for those stories. On the way back, Roscoe urged me to stop at the rock for a picture. He then provided the push on the way back to The Pub as we worked to catch up with the rest of the group.

Taper Run at the Pub

Arriving at the PUB I noticed two cars in the lot.  Breaker Breaker along with Serena and Defib were moseying around the area.  In comes Waterboy on foot and then Sarento, Oompa Loompa, and then JJ comes running in as usual.  It was in the 50’s this morning and JJ was without his normal UNC beanie but he did have on long pants and long sleeve shirt.  We need to discuss his Steve at a later date.

Waterboy was wearing all black and it was very foggy this morning.  He explained that it is “reflective”.  When a car sees him at the last minute and swerves, he “reflects” upon his life.

The route was called out as the Robinwood to Greenway and back route which allows for only one main street crossing and all sidewalks.  #safetyfirst

Some modified the route due to multiple Dam to Dam participants running in less than 48 hours.  Defib brought out the “bands” and we stretched a little waiting for the PAX to return.  As usual, the fellowship was strong.

Announcements:  D2D Saturday,  The Nation’s Nantan, will bring it Downtown to Q.  Bet on a Slaughter Starter on March 18th.

Prayer Requests:

Our Country, Ukraine, Waterboy’s friend just passed away, Breaker Breaker’s Uncle with Dementia, Round Up and Family,  YHC’s M and FIL, Stroganoff with Bronchitis

Always a great day to Q a workout and the Pub is a weekly workout that is a guardrail to get the mileage in and keep pushing the rock.  We are fortunate as a region to have so many great Thursday morning options.  The Goat, the Diablo Sammich, Folsom, and the afternoon Midoriyama has something for everyone.  I hope if you are reading this you are contemplating which AO you will attend next Thursday.  Better yet, get after it tomorrow downtown with JJ as your Q.

Aye!

2021’s Last Call

For about the last six months, I’ve joined Waterboy on the journey down Gaston Day for EC prior to the mosey at The Pub. It’s helpful when you live exactly a mile from an AO. As YHC closed in on my run goal for the year, YHC was met with a surprise at the end of my driveway before the EC mosey. Flintstone and Whoopee were there waiting on me to run the mile that would get me one mile closer to my yearly goal. I want to thank them and all of the other PAX that have offered encouragement over the last couple of weeks as my goal got that much closer to a reality. It was greatly appreciated.

It was a very mild December morning so there was a good crowd gathered. Time to go…

The Pledge

The plan for the route was to run out of 2021 the way we ran into it. When Stroganoff Q’ed on 1/7/21, we ran:

Right out of The Pub onto Gaston Day School Rd til it turns into Armstrong Park Rd
Left on EAST Perry St
Right on Lee St
Left on S New Hope Rd
Right on Armstrong Park Dr
Right onto Armstrong Park Rd til is turns into Gaston Day School Rd

We ran the same route on 12/30/21.

Redemption Q

After last week’s fiasco, Dr. Seuss allowed me to take the Pub Q as I think he was excited to run a “new route” that was promised.  I don’t know if he liked it because he was already gone when I returned for COT.

Defib texted me last night to see if I needed a wake up call.  I sent him the appropriate one finger emoji.  I arrived six hours early and shortly thereafter found EZ Rider getting his two miles of EC in to keep him on pace for his 50 mile week.  It was about 42 and drizzling rain…perfect running weather.  Olson pulled in next along with Stroganoff, Virus, Defib, Dr. Seuss, then JJ and Waterboy arrived on foot.  Sargento came in with a minute or two to spare as is his culture.  Disclaimer given and then the “new route” described.

Here is the route:

Gaston Day School Road

Left on E. Perry Street

Right on Lee

Left on New Hope

Left at Times Turnaround at Dixon

Run to Burtonwood and run back.

The pack stayed together for the most part for the first 1/4 mile and then the lead dogs took off.  JJ, Stroganoff, and YHC were the six for the first half and then Stroganoff ate his spinach and picked up the pace by about two minutes per mile on Perry Street.  JJ had mercy on the Q and returned to help push me home.  The Chad 1000 training means I haven’t been putting in the road miles recently and it showed today but the leg felt pretty good so there is that!  There is no need to feel sorry for yourself when stricken by injury or you have a setback.  Just do what you can do and carry on.  Once you are in shape it is easier to get back in shape, you just have to do the work.

Speaking of doing the work, I hope everyone participating in the 40 Day Challenge is staying in the game.  Tomorrow you will be halfway done.  Keep being disciplined with what you eat and drink and make a positive difference in your health.
