Weak turnout, strong work

The forecast of rainy weather must have caused some of the PAX to “forget” to set their alarms last night. The skies parted and the weather ended up being great for the 3 PAX that decided to resist the fartsack and start the week off right. Started with the pledge and then moseyed down to the BB&T to get to work.

Walls of Jericho

7 Reps of 7 exercises with a lap around the bank and parking lot after each set. The goal was to focus on good form and full execution of the exercise. Exercises were:

Hip Slappers (IC)

Mtn. Climbers (IC)

Squats

Mike Tyson’s

American Hammer’s (IC)

Plank Jacks (IC)

Lunges (IC)

Took a minute to discuss the teachings found in the story about the walls of Jericho. Be obedient to the teachings and instructions given to you by God and have faith that he will deliver you. Let’s mosey.

Stop at Central Ave and perform 10 squats at each light pole until you get to the bottom of the hill then NUR up the hill to Oakland St. and perform 50 LBC’s OYO. Continue up Central all the way to Hawthorne stopping at each light pole for 2 Burpee’s. Meet up at the steps in front of the auditorium for 10 regular calf raises on each step going up and 10 toes out calf raises on each step on the way down.

We moseyed to the cover in front of the middle school to finish up with about 10 minutes of ab work. Big boys, oblique crunches, flutters, etc….then finished up with 10 Burpee’s, 25 Dips and 10 Step Ups.

Blockwork at Hollywood

13 Men posted in the frosty gloom this morning at Mt. Hollywood. I knew that the coupons hadn’t been used at Hollywood yet, so I to bring them out to break the AO in. I had borrowed a portion of my Q from Goodwrench in Sailview and these PAX were going to be the test mules for the workout.

Warmup:

Seal Jacks X 10IC, Gravel Pickers X 10 IC, Morr. Nightclubs X 10 IC

Thing:

“The Last Castle” I had placed a pile of coupons (CMU’s, Medicine Balls) in one of the parking spaces at the middle school. All PAX line up shoulder to shoulder 20 yards away from coupons. First PAX moseys/walks/skips to the pile of coupons and transports them by any means to another parking spot approx. 10 yards away. Q calls an exercise for all other PAX to perform while their brother is transporting the coupons. The Q may have placed too many coupons for a crowd of this size. Realizing this would take forever, I reduced the number of coupons to facilitate a quicker turnaround time for each PAX. I can’t remember all the exercises called, but I attempted to keep it balanced between cardio/chest/legs/abs. Side note: Blart is a Jenga champion with coupons. I will need to modify this routine, but I was pleased with the disgruntled mumblechatter it produced.

Next, all grab a coupon and circle up for curls/ overhead press. Start from 15 (curls/ overhead presses) all the way down to 1, never letting the coupon touch the ground. This locked down the mumblechatter.

Next was the Bearmuda Triangle. Bear crawl in a triangular pattern on the sidewalk (there’s a perfect spot at Mt. Hollywood for this) and perform escalating hand release Merkins until you reach 10. This is a shoulder burner for sure.

Quick mosey back to the coupons for 5 Blockees to finish us out.

Announcements:

Prayer Requests:

YHC took us out in prayer

We then had the Pledge and Name-o-rama. (Q fail)

Moleskin:

I know this workout seemed scatterbrained. I was trying some new things, and I appreciate the PAX working with me to see it through. Thank all of you men for allowing me to lead. I encourage each of you to remember what the Thanksgiving Holiday means and to remember those things that you’re most Thankful for. Don’t take a day for granted!

Until Next Time,

Slaw

Great job Tiger!

August marked the 1st Anniversary of Mt. Hollywood as an official Gashouse AO and I think it’s safe to say that it’s here to stay. Pizza Man led the charge in getting this AO up and going and Tiger has served as Site Q since the start. Tclaps to both of these HIM’s and their efforts to grow this thing we call F3. It’s an honor to take over as Site Q and I hope we can work together to continue to grow this AO and make an impact in this community.

Tiger and I decided to do a Co-Q for the turnover and there were a total of 6 PAX ready to start the week off with a beatdown. Tiger handled the warmup and then took us on a mosey to Rankin Elementary for some four corner escalators.

Corner 1 – 10 Squats

Corner 2 – 10 Squats, 20 Merkins

Corner 3 – 10 Squats, 20 Merkins, 30 LBC’s

Corner 4 – 10 Squats, 20 Merkins, 30 LBC’s, 40 SSH’s

Rinse and repeat

Now it’s my turn. Mosey around the block and head to lot behind the BB&T for a Countdown.

20 Hand Release Merkins on one side, sprint across lot for 20 Big Boy’s at the other side. Repeat with 19/19, 18/18…all the way to 1/1.

Next up was a little stretching followed by a round of Mary.

Mosey back to the start and time’s up.

Pavilion Chili Cookoff Pre-Blast

Bathrooms coming soon to the Pavilion!

The Rotary Centennial Pavilion has been home to the F3 Downtown workout since July of 2015, a few short months after the F3 Gastonia launch.  E4 was the original site Q before he handed it off to the elusive Spiderman who then turned over the reins to Bedpan.  By my calculations, F3 has posted over 200 Friday workouts at the Pavilion besides running through the site during our three 50 mile relays.

The big cheese, Sargento, happens to be the Nantan of the Gastonia Rotary Club this year.  Both Gastonia Rotary Clubs are raising money to install public bathrooms at the Pavilion soon.  Bathrooms would be a great thing for downtown as well as for any F3 PAX who routinely run late to the workout due to those “emergencies”.  (you know who you are)

To raise money for the bathrooms, the Gastonia Rotary Club is hosting a Chili Cook Off on November 2nd of this year.  I am aware that you should probably have bathrooms installed before eating chili but I am not in charge.  There are four levels of sponsorships, with $1000.00 being the “Four Alarm” sponsor.  I propose giving back to the Pavilion and raising money for this cause.  F3 Gastonia can assist in raising money for the bathrooms and if we meet our goal sooner rather than later we will be recognized in all advertisements and social media, leading to more exposure for F3 and hopefully draw in some FNG’s.

I am calling on all site Q’s to collect donations from PAX throughout the month of September until we reach our goal of $1000.00.  PAX may contribute cash or checks (made payable to the Rotary Club of Gastonia).  The good news is Diablo Sammich has already said they were going to raise $100, and that was immediately countered with a $150 pledge from the PUB.  The Coconut Horse then said they would raise $151.

The purpose will be to raise awareness of F3Gastonia and support the community through adding an amenity to the premier Friday AO in our region.

This initiative is “Nantan approved” as well as “Site Q approved”.  If each PAX that posts contributes something we should reach our goal in short order.  F3 is free so there is no obligation to give but Site Q’s please take up the collections and let’s hit this goal and put F3Gastonia on more men’s radars in our region.

Aye!

Red on both Ends

Gold Digger originally had the Q for Mt. Hollywood this morning but he had a last minute schedule change and asked YHC to take it. I agreed and started to develop my Weinke. I wanted to give the proper beatdown without having the complexity of a Short Sale workout (because, let’s be honest, my mind isn’t as developed as well as the former weasel shaker’s). I took to Twitter and Slack for inspiration. I came across the recent “7 albums in 7 days challenge” that many of our PAX have been participating in. I came across a few posts of Whoopee’s favorite band- Rush. He’s the one who introduced many of us to RED BARCHETTA. That’s all I needed for inspiration.

As the PAX were circling up, Broke asked “before I get outta my truck, how many burpees are we doing?”. I told him somewhere between 1 and 300. It won’t be THAT many.

Warmup:

  • SSH X 10IC
  • Gravel Pickers X 10IC
  • Low Slow Squats X10 IC

PLEDGE

Thang:

Mosey out of the school parking lot and through the light at Hawthorne. Right onto Mt. Glendale street. Right at the end of Glendale to the back parking lot of Second Baptist Church. YHC already had the cones set up at 100, 75, 50, 25 and 10 yards for Red Barchetta.

  1. 100 yard sprint to end cone then 100 SSH (single count). Sprint back. Plank for the 6.
  2. 75 yard sprint then 75 mountain climbers (count right leg). Sprint back. Plank for the 6.
  3. 50 yard sprint then 50 LBCs (single count). Sprint back. Plank for the 6.
  4. 25 yard sprint then 25 Merkins. Sprint back. Plank for the 6.
  5. 10 yard sprint then 10 Burpees. Sprint back. Plank for the 6.

After a quick 10 count, mosey to a smaller section of parking lot for escalator Burpee Dans. PAX perform 4 lunges then 1 burpee until they reach the other side. On the way back, lunges stay the same, but burpees increase by 1. We went up to 5 burpees, then back down to one. Mumblechatter was pretty nonexistent except for a few unfavorable statements directed at the Q.

Last on the agenda was a rinse and repeat of Red Barchetta. The PAX were thrilled to hear it! Checking the time, I decided to cut the reps in half at each station. All the guys pushed through like the HIMs that they are. We then moseyed back to home base. With just a couple minutes left, a couple rounds of Mary.

Broke called Flutter Kicks- 15 IC

Sister Act called Dying Cockroaches- 15

Tiger called American Hammers-20 or 25 IC. Sorry, I forgot.

NMM:

I really didn’t have any words of wisdom or encouragement for the guys this morning. As I was riding to Mt. Hollywood, I was listening to the radio and heard the speaker say “the three words that all of us need to hear and want to hear from someone else is- Don’t Give Up.”. There are many people throughout history who made an impact on all of us just because they didn’t quit. I’ve had many of my F3 brothers message me or talk to me and give that very encouragement to me the past few days. To every one of my brothers, I want to thank you for  your friendship and the brotherhood that cannot be replaced. All of you have inspired me and motivated me to be a better Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Friend and Christian. I hope and pray that I can return the favor to all of you guys. I’m honored to be part of the Gashouse Brotherhood!

SYITG,

Slaw

P.S. Ask Tesla about an upcoming x-ray that Sister Act will be getting soon. It seems like some cutting edge medical science to YHC!

GDiggathon Pt. 1: The HRPCMBs

Day 1 of the Gold Diggathon is in the books and it was a real crowd pleaser! Had to set the tone for the week and what better way to do so than by introducing a horrific new burpee routine: Hand Release Prison Cell Merkin Burpees, or HRPCMBs for short. Essentially, you drop down like a normal burpee, do a HR merkin, bring up one leg, another HR merkin, bring up the other leg, another HR merkin and then both legs for the final jump up. That’s one. Do a Route 66 with those bad boys and you have the workout du jour. Plus a few other things to keep life interesting.

There was an undercurrent of mumblechatter, but eventually it was directed mostly toward SA and his “chapstick under the rainbow flag” incident. Poor guy.

Don’t forget the convergence this coming Saturday at Gashouse and to pray for each other, especially the Kotters. Also mentioned were the deaths of the boy at the trampoline park and the woman on 85.

Gold Diggathon continues tomorrow at both Folsom in the AM and Midoriyama in the PM!

See you all there,

GD

Baptist Hill

YHC arrived at Mt. Hollywood a little early and found three cars in the lot. SA, Seuss and Gold Digger evidently deemed that the workout alone wouldn’t be enough to challenge their abilities, so they decided to get in some EC. At 05:30 there were 10 PAX in attendance so after a quick disclaimer and the Pledge (Blart comes in hot at this point), we skip the warmup and head out on a mosey. Up Hawthorne to Glendale and then down to the bottom of “Baptist Hill” which would be the focus of the first part of the workout.

Triple Nickel

5 big boys at the bottom of Baptist Hill and 5 Burpee’s at the top x5

About the time we start, Doodles comes running down the hill. I think he left his car on the side of the road and just jumped out and left it there during the workout.

After the Triple Nickel we moseyed down Main Street stopping at each driveway and road crossing for 10 Merkins, 20 LBC’s and 30 SSH’s (11 stops total) and then headed up to the parking lot at Rankin Elementary to finish things off. Partner up  and while one partner runs a lap around the lot, the other performs AMRAP of called exercise, flapjack. Exercises were; Diamond Merkins, Freddie Mercury’s, Mike Tyson’s, Flutter Kicks and Burpee’s. Back to the start and time is up.

Cross Fit

We spend a lot of time, focus and of course energy in getting ourselves physically fit. We change our eating habits, dedicate time for workouts, focus on developing various muscle groups, etc….all in the hope of achieving our goals and becoming better physically. Are we doing the same for our spiritual health? Are we changing our habits, making time for prayer and reading the Bible, seeking guidance in areas where we struggle? Let’s put in the work to get better spiritually and see what those results look like.

YHC took us out.
