F3 Gastonia 50 mile relay dry run

Well this F3 Gastonia 50 mile relay has been in the works for sometime and with the Tuna 200 coming QIC figured it might be a good time for a dry run and to get some of the PAX to start training for it.  With that being said…we ran…took a break…ran some more…took another break…and ran a little more!!! Around 50 miles to be exact.   During the run we ran through or ran by all 10 AO’s in F3 Gastonia.  This was a good time with my F3 brothers…I think starting at 4am brought the best out of everyone.  I can’t really explain what these events are like but the reasoning behind this 50 miler is to give a relay race opportunity to everyone within F3 Gastonia and so that you wouldn’t have to be away from the family for a couple days.  Trust me when I say that this 50 mile relay will be no walk in the park but when you are with the HIMS in F3 Gastonia there are no words that can describe it.   This BB could go on for days with all the mummblechatter that went on, so I highly suggest that you start training NOW because you do not want to miss this event, IT WILL BE EPIC!!!  There will be more information about the event coming soon!!!

Special thanks to all the HIMS that made this dry run happen!!!  There is absolutely NO way this would have been possible without each of you!!!

Until next time Pizza Brah is OOOOOOOUUUUUUUTTTTTT!!!  (Show to know)

Blocks

17  Men including 1 FNG(wait no 18 because we can’t count) showed up at Midoriyama for a beatdown. This is how it went.

Disclaimer-These guys are idiots and I’m the brightest one out here so we are all in trouble!

Warmup:

Pledge

Don Q’s x 10ic

SSH x 10ic

Merkins x 2ic Yes that says 2. I’ve been having elbow issues and have been avoiding these. I figured I would just mess with everyone and just make them get down so they would have to get back up again.

Everyone grab two freshly purchased bricks out of my truck and let’s mosey!

The Thang:

We went to the side of the farthest soccer field. Run across with a brick, do 10 Turkish getups and run back. Rinse and repeat to the next field. Then again to farthest side of the next field. Then again to the top of the far Hill. 40 total Turkish Getups. Some guys really struggled with the Turkish Getup concept but managed to work it out by the end. Good Work! At this point we were going to use the little soccer field but a game was in process so back to where we started for some Wojo sprint work.

Everyone with bricks in hand and a foot on the line sprint all out to the opposite side of the field and fellowship mosey back. Rinse and repeat 3 times. 1 time a few PAX jumped the gun so the rest of us did Merkins while we waited for them to rejoin the team. Blart looked like Usain Bolt gliding across the field. It took me 3 steps to his 1. I felt like he was just toying with me. I’m pretty sure I saw him smiling a little.

Let’s mosey and stash the bricks. Mosey on back to the flag. Slaw brought us the big blocks to use.

Partner up. P1 wall sits. P2 does 5 Blockees. Switch and rinse and repeat until I call time. We did this for 10-15 minutes.

HIMS of Midoriyama

14 HIMS posted for another Pizza Man delivery.  This delivery had a little bit of everything.  No FNG’s so short disclaimer and lets begin.

Warm-Up:

SSH, Don Q, 10 Burpees OYO

Lets mosey…the PAX moseyed throughout Midoriyama and at every parking lot opening we did 3 exercises.

These exercises were:

  • Merkins, LBC’s, 5 burpees OYO
  • Incline merkins, Flutters, 5 burpees OYO
  • Derkins, Butterfly sit-ups, 5 burpees OYO
  • Mike Tyson’s, American Hammer, 5 burpees OYO
  • CDD’s, Freddy Mercury’s, 5 burpees OYO

Along the mosey we stopped at the bleachers for a set of dips and continued on to my favorite hill for Triple Nickel.  Each HIM was to run the hill do 5 squats at the top and run back down to do 5 WW1’s at the bottom. (Rinse and repeat 5 times)  Good work men and way to push each other!!  On our mosey back we stopped again for more dips then QIC wanted to get the PAX heart rates up so we lined up along the sideline of the soccer field for an all out sprint.  Damn these men of Midoriyama are quick!!!  We continued our mosey through Midoriyama performing exercises at each opening but did not forget the 5 burpees at each speed bump.  With time running short, we lined up for zombie walks with a  added burpee back to the flag and finished with Oompa Loompa taking us out with 22 for the VETS.

Tool Time

Memory

13 PAX posted Tuesday at Midoriyama. YHC has had a full plate lately and completely forgot he had the Q. Thankfully Tooltime called to tell me he was stuck in traffic and may not make it. He called like he was calling into work….hilarious! During our conversation he advised he was calling in due to me having the Q and the risk of ridicule for missing after his Q at Folsom on Saturday. He made it and I made it so all worked out well! The PAX were warned that if I don’t have anything planned and have to create it on the fly it will probably end badly.

Warmup:

Don Q x 20ic

SSH x 15ic

Don Q’s on the ground x 10ic

Let’s mosey

The Thang:

We moseyed to the field where we keep our blocks. Partner up and one partner gets a block. At this point I think everyone thought we were going to stay there and do something…. Nope! Let’s mosey. Switch the block with your partner when needed. We had an odd number so YHC didn’t have a partner to switch with so that sucked. I was thinking about hitting the trail for a long mosey but that was out. We went to the far side of the far soccer field for some Mary.

Round 1-1 partner runs across the field the other does the exercise. You know how it works.

100-Overhead presses

200-Weighted squats

300-Leg lifts while holding the block up in the air

Round 2-

50-Weighted lunges

100-Curls

150-In/Outs while holding the block over head

Mosey back. Thanks to Pizza Man and Canteen for partnering with me on the way back! Block was getting heavy!

Double Omaha

It seems here lately that YHC has the ability to bring the rain. Literally. The weather has been rainy the last few times YHC has led the group at Midoriyama. At first, it looked as if the rain would slack off long enough for the original weinke. As the afternoon progressed, the weather looked as if it wasn’t going to cooperate. YHC Omaha’d to a “Rainy Day” weinke and instructed the PAX to post at the picnic shelter. After YHC arrived on site, he was greeted by brother Tool Time, Def Leppard, Lil’ Sweet, and lastly, Blart (who came out of the turd shack like he was shot from a cannon). The rain was light at best, and Tool Time REALLY didn’t want YHC’s rainy weinke. YHC really didn’t want it either, so YHC Omaha’d back to the original weinke (that he left sitting on the bar back home, of course). 5:30 rolled around, so here we go.

Warmup:

  • SSH x 15 IC
  • Merkins x 3 IC
  • Staggered Merkins (right in front of left) x 3 IC
  • Staggered Merkins (left in front of right) x 3 IC
  • Werkins x 3 IC
  • Diamond Merkins x 3 IC
  • Moroccan Nightclubs x 20 IC

The Thang:

Grab the shovel flag and mosey up past the playground to long parking lot and back to the playground for the beginning of a 1/2 Murph.

  • 1/2 mile run (just completed)
  • 10 rounds of: 5 Pullups, 10 Merkins, 15 Squats
  • 1/2 mile run (will be performed at end of workout)

After the Pullups, Merkins, and Squats, YHC led the men to the parking lot for:

Route 66 Mountain Climbers IC

Next, PAX lined up on one curb for some Burpee Dans. Pockets introduced this exercise to Midoriyama a little while back. Starting at one side, perform one Burpee, then Lunge forward one step per leg, the repeat the Burpee/ Lunge cycle until PAX reaches the other side. Come back with 2 Burpees/ Lunge 2 steps. Repeat back and forth up to 5 Burpees. This one really takes a toll on the body (especially after the 1/2 Murph work). Excellent work by all PAX. They really worked their tails off. The cool temps and light rain really helped prevent any passing out/ Merlot splashing. Tool Time voiced his disgusted pleasure (if there is such a thing) with Pockets for bringing these to Midoriyama. Also a shout out to the other men- Def Leppard pushing hard to “keep that butt down” during any Merkins/ Burpees. Blart quietly keeps pushing the rock and knocking all exercises out like Floyd Mayweather on that McGregor guy (sorry Tool Time). Lil’ Sweet actually cheers any time a Burpee exercise is called! Outstanding! And Tool Time pushes hard every time he posts. No matter how tired he is, he is always slinging out the mumble chatter!

At this time, YHC spoke very briefly about Matthew 5:37 : “But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No; no: for whatever is more than these comes of evil.” As  a HIM, our word must be solid. YHC commented that it seems the value of a man’s word has diminished over time. If you say it, do it. Be the example of this especially in front of younger men who need to see that type of behavior in us. Be a man of your word.

PAX then grabbed the shovel flag and moseyed back to the picnic shelter (last 1/2 mile of the 1/2 Murph) for:

The PLEDGE, and

22 Merkins for the Veterans.

Announcements:

  • Speed for Need (sign up now. It’s going to fill up quick after this weekend)
  • JJ5K in Stanley Sept. 23rd.
  • Burpeethon Sept. 16th.
  • Dry run of the Gas House AO run. DM Pizza Man if you are interested.
  • Sparky has contacted Samaritan’s Purse about helping the victims of Harvey. Tentative date is early October. Sparky will have more details soon.

COT:

Prayer requests: The victims of Harvey in Texas and Louisiana, our Country, and a young 9 year old that Def Leppard mentioned. After hearing his story, this young man has gone through more sickness and pain in his short 9 years than any of us have in our lives combined.

Keep lifting each other up in prayer!

Thanks for the opportunity to lead! Had a great time pushing the rock with my brothers!

Mental Toughness…

14 warriors posted for a Pizza Man Q on mental toughness.  Today felt a little different at Midoriyama with the humidity and heat down.  17:30 hit and  it was time to get this thing rolling.  With no FNG’s, still a short disclaimer due to some injuries at Midoriyama over the past weeks.

Warm-up:

Seal Jack X 20 IC

Don Q’s X 10 IC

And now to get the mental toughness started…

10 burpees OYO on every minute X 5

Thang:

Now with the heart pumping lets mosey to the soccer field but remember 5 humpees at the speed hump.

Circle up for some Tabata work:

The PAX were to perform each exercise for 30 sec. and then go to the next.  We did this for 3 sets.

Exercises were:

Merkins(Regular, Wide, Walking Hand)

Squat to calf raises

LBC’s

With that complete, lets go…mosey to the hill at the dog park for a little TRIPLE NICKLE.  PAX were to run the hill, at the top perform 5 American Get-ups(We aren’t Turkish) then run back down and do 5 WWI sit-ups.  With it being called TRIPLE NICKLE, that means repeat for 5 times.  Good work men…this is when mental toughness was needed.  QIC explained that when your body is saying I can’t or wants to stop, that’s when you need to tell yourself you can and to push!!! Look around at all the HIMS around you and feed off of that.

Lets keep that heart pumping…mosey on to the playground for some more Tabata work.

This time the exercise were:

Pull-ups

Windshield wipers

Planks(Rows, Alt hand lifts)

We modified to 2 sets due to time

With around 6 minutes to go lets mosey back to the flag for real mental toughness.  With your body worn from the previous 40 minutes, tell your body to push and you can do it!!

That’s right…circle up for 10 burpees OYO on every minute X 5

Time!!

Much respect to Oompa Loompa for posting for the COT…Get better brother!!

Pledge

Announcements:

  • SPEED FOR NEED- Nov.25th
  • Burpeethon-Sept. 16th
  • JJK5- Sept. 23rd
  • 50 mile Relay Dry Run- Sept. 30th (Tentative)
  • Giving Help to Houston after Harvey- 1st week in Oct. (Sparky will post more info.)

Prayers

Good work men!! Way to be strong and push through!!  As I mention throughout the workout, the reason all the HIMS post is to not only better themselves but be there to push each other.  Just remember going forward that when you think you don’t have it in you, dig deep and tell your body you can!!!

Until next time Pizza Man is OOOOUUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!!

TBQ for all!

11 Showed for Gastone’s first Q at Midoriyama. The forecast and Freight were calling for a cooler day but if that is cooler than I am really not going to come out of the gloom that often.

The Thang:

35 SSH

Plank, Raise one arm then the other, then 6 inches until Freight joins us. He took his time.

Jack Webb up to 7 and then back down.

Run around baseball fields to the soccer fields in the tall grass.

Stop along the way at a 15 yard hill for 10 to the top backwards. (We got 2 young guys to join us that made it around the field and when we started the backwards stuff one of them got a phone call from his mother and they had to leave)

Mosey to soccer field.

Partner up for some wheelbarrow all the way across the field.

Next was the 11’s near the dog park. Conveniently a sidewalk between the soccer fields and then on the other side of the fields was a good hill. We started with 1 Partner Hand Slap Merkin then each partner ran in opposite direction to the top of a hill for 10 Get Up’s. We switched sides to run after each set up Partner Hand Slaps. Now this sucked far worse than I would have expected and I will explain. One hill had shade and the other put us closer to the sun. One field was dry and the other field was a swamp that had just been watered. I personally was only done with the second set and realized how much of a suck this was going to be for everyone. Many times during this workout I felt overheated, dizzy, and a close to vomit feeling in my throat. Pizza Man at the end joined several other groups for extra credit, Kudos on that. Slaw had it all under control. Tooltime is a beast and stayed near the front. Freight the Natan, had a serious look on his face and stayed in the front the entire time as well. The rest of us got it done and survived.

The Moleskin:

Midoriyama, one of the only pm workouts in F3 is alive with HIMS. When I look around F3 Gastonia I find that I have friends, some of them new and some I have know for a while.  The surprising thing is that most of even the new friends are like we have know each other for years. I don’t even have the words to express how much I appreciate everyone. F3 Gastonia is a special group of guys and we will grow and should be really proud every day of what has been made with sacrifices from all of you.

Everyone did a great job or the best we could do.

Prayer request for many of our brother’s out here, family, and friends. Let’s pray for all of them.

Always and honor and thanks for the opportunity, That was Fun!

Gastone Out!
