Slam Ball

15 strong men at Midoriyama for a Canteen beatdown. Swimmer and Floppy Disk went mountain bike riding. I’ll try to remember what we did.

Warmup SSH x 10

Mosey to the first soccer field. Awaiting were 2 tractor tires and some cinder blocks and we carried (2) 30 lb. Slam balls. We split into 2 teams. First guy on each team lifts the ball over his head and slams it on the ground 5 times, then flips the tire 5 times, runs to the end of the field while the next guy slams the ball until each team is finished. Rinse and repeat except this time adding 5 push ups and carrying 2 cinder blocks to the tire flips and slam balls. Ouch!

Next up was 4 corners with 15 merkins, 15 squats, 15 Xmen crunches, 15 American hammers with karaoke on the longer field lengths and nur (run backwards) the shorter lengths. Rinse and repeat. Some decided to also sing karaoke as they ran it. The guy singing Randy Travis was pretty good! Reba McIntyre and Meatloaf needed some work. Throughout the workout Slaw kept trying to distract the Q requesting burpees but the Q stated firmly, NO Burpees!

Mosey to a hill with the slam balls and split back into 2 teams. Bear Crawl up the hill pushing the Slam Ball and when you got to the top, let the Slam Ball roll back down to the next guy. Rinse and repeat. Several of the Pax had their bear crawl form questioned.

Mosey back to the flag stopping at each light pole for 15 merkins. Back at the flag for 6 MOM. Freddie Mercuries, Flutter Kicks, Crunchy Frogs and some kind of cross over merkins.

Living

19 PAX came out for a downpour filled workout at Midoriyama today. On the plus side the sun wasn’t beating down. We will come to wish for these rainy days soon enough. I had two wienke’s filled out and struggled to choose which one to use. After reading a few BB I was inspired to go another route.

Warmup:

SSH x 10ic

Seal Jacks x 15ic

Goofballs x 15ic

We moseyed down to the stash of goodies to deliver our new bars for a later workout. Mosey back to the side parking lot.

The Thang:

11’s up the parking lot- Slaw chose corkscrew’s and Sister Act chose Mike Tyson’s

Well that took a while!

4 corners-run the straight away lunge or bear crawl the corners. Stop and do an exercise chosen by one of the PAX in the corners. Sorry I don’t recall all of these. I’m actually kind of busy at work right now and I’m just squeezing this BB in before I pull a Def Leppard and forget.

Time for some AMRAP! 1 minute of exercise and then run a lap. All exercise were chosen by the PAX.

COT:

Pledge-The site Q forgot the shovel flag soooooooo

Announcements-The Forge Wednesday night on Peter led by Ash Pond, Convergence and Q school coming up

Prayer Request-Loved ones struggling with sickness

Moleskin:

During the workout I called on different PAX to call the exercises. That way we never knew what we would be getting. Even Slaw surprised everyone when he didn’t call Burpee’s. YHC talked a little about how you never know what life is going to deliver you. We should all live like we are dying. Not that we should go out and live outrageously but we should live like tomorrow we may be standing before God. We need get right with our Lord everyday!

the most fun you can have while being miserable

14 other joined YHC for my first Q at Midoriyama in quite some time.   Everyone showed ready to run, because you all know YHC loves to run.  I planned at getting at least a 1k in today.  Blart posted twice today just because he knew we’d be running.

Once 1730 hit it was time to clock in.

Warmups: 8ct body builders, merkins, side straddle hops and lbcs.

Mosey.

Stop for deconstructed burpees.  This was a crowd pleaser. Start at 10 and worked out way down to 1.

Mosey down to Hamburger Hill.  Half way there YHC was thinking how I thought this hill was much closer.  Oh well.

Partner up.  P1 crawls bear down the hill and bear crawls back up.  P2 does merkins.  Switch. After one round it was agreed this was stupid.  No one at the city has bothered cutting this hill since 2016.

Lunge walk, Nur and mosey back to the parking lot closest to the hill.  We started to do deconstructed burpees again but it didn’t seem to be a crowd pleaser.

All you got run to a desired location.  Stop for merkins I think.

All you got run. Stop for 22 for the Vets.

Lunge, Nur and Mosey to the turd shack.

Partner up again.  P1 does Australian mountain climbers while P2 does 50 lbcs.  Repeat changing lbcs for merkins.  Repeat again changing merkins for squats.

Circle up at the launching point for Mary.  merkins, boat to canoe and some sort of weird merkin hipaa picked.

Disclaimer, warm up with MNC while FNG joins circle, 10 SSH.

Forgot to pledge. Communist Q.

Simple game of chance, roll two dice, perform what the chart says based on die rolls.

Midoriyama (being mathematically challenged) could not have made worse rolls against the odds.

We rolled Elevens three times. First was Squats, run to turd shack, more Squats, run to woods. At least it took up time.

Then we rolled Elevens again.
Squats and WW ones.

Then SSH four times, Flutters twice, Hammers twice, Mountain Climbers,
Donkey Kicks, Hillbillies, then Elevens again.

Flutters and Hillbillies.

Closed with Burpees.

Welcome to the Two FNG’s Hooch (Adam Wilson) and Shocker (Omer Shedd). Way to push guys!

YHC took us out.

40 Days of Discipline Part Deux

The first forty days of discipline was a great success with many PAX becoming more intentional in putting in the work and eating better.  The results speak for themselves.  Several PAX have lost the equivalent of a ruck sack.  I am not a mathematician but I would approximate that our attendance at AO’s in our region have increased by at least 9000 percent.  Hopefully most of those habits have stuck with you.  If so, the fitness and diet part of this challenge should be the easy part.

This 40 day  initiative begins on April 29th and ends on June 7th.  (Start it out at the Coconut Horse for that first post of the challenge)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

1. Workout a minimum of 5 xs per week from April 29th through June 7th.

Don’t eat sweets, soft drinks, or junk food.  Four cheat meals.  You can earn more.  Don’t drink alcohol or limit it to one or two drinks.  Hold yourself accountable by journaling your efforts.

  1. Cherish your M: Take your wife out on at least two dates in the forty days.
  2. Bring at least one FNG to a workout in these 40 days. For every three FNG’s, you get a cheat meal.  #AlwaysbeEH’ing.  If you EH a guy who posts and you aren’t there, that is a 50 burpee penalty #nojoke
  3. Acts of Service: Do something for someone else daily with no expectation of anything in return.  Be grateful you get to do it.  Encourage others.  Lead or participate in a service project.  Make a point to introduce yourself to someone you don’t know.  Journal your efforts (honor system) Extra credit if your 2.0’s watch your example and/or participate.
  4.  Read a book.

Why?

Your fitness is important and you are pushing the rock.  You workout with your brothers in the shieldlock.  You are blessed to continually strive to experience all 3 F’s and you know that when you are striving to be your best, you need to share it.  Be the example.  Be the man you know you were made to be.

Now for the fine print….

Fitness:

You must workout a minimum of 5 times per week (at least 27 workouts in 40 days) using the #F3 250 model.  Any workout that is a minimum of 30 minutes counts.  This could include running, cycling, rucking, any F3 workout or workout you put together at home.  Two a day workouts count.  Example, you complete an F3 bootcamp in the morning and a minimum 30 minute run in the afternoon=2 workouts.

Diet:      You still cannot have Mountain Dew T-Square.  No other soft drinks, desserts, sweets, potato chips, junk food, fast food, etc.  You know what your food vices are so stay away from them.  Fast food is allowed if it is salad or chili and unsweetened tea or water…you get the idea.  If you defile a chicken foot in a blender and claim that is nutritious, you are automatically DQ’d (I’m talking to you Gastone!)

Protein shakes within 30 minutes of ending the workout.  Get some protein powder and a shaker bottle and make it a habit.   Drink more water.  You will be working out more and this will help you recover.

You are allowed four cheat meals.  Your choice but they must be named and claimed. If you work out more than 5 times per week, you can claim an extra cheat meal.  An example is a couple of slices of pizza but don’t blow it on a whole pizza.  Even though you will be getting the workouts in you can’t out train a bad diet.  Remember you can earn more by bringing in 3 FNG’s or going on a date with your M.

Alcohol:  I am no nutritionist but have seen enough articles about red wine being good for the heart and beer being a good recovery drink.  However, I am not recommending anything here.  Moderation and limit yourself to one day a week if you have to have it.

You must keep a daily journal of both your workouts and cheat meals. The journal is for your eyes only.  I use the “notes” on my IPhone since I always have it with me.  I journaled all my workouts on my phone in 2017.  It is helpful to look back and see types of workouts, two a days, and extra credit workouts that make journaling worth it.  You can also see where you failed to work out and why.  It is a good habit.  I also saw where I was injured and what I did to modify workouts until I was healed up.

Journal what you are grateful for and start with your M.  Try not to take her for granted.  Chances are she is the best thing that ever happened to you.  As Will Munny (Clint Eastwood) said in Unforgiven, “I ain’t like that no more. I ain’t the same, Ned. Claudia, she straightened me up, cleared me of all that drinking and killing and such” (I know that isn’t totally accurate but that is how I like to remember it).  If she likes to stay home, stay home and spend time without distactions.  Write her notes…send her flowers…cards…Text emoji’s are nice but they don’t count.  If you are on a date with your wife, you can eat a free cheat meal.  If you don’t have an M, be nice to your dog.  (If this isn’t in your comfort zone and your M is taken aback in your sudden change in behavior, it will probably be amusing so share it with your bros)

If you missed an opportunity to bless someone by an act or gesture of kindness, try not to miss the opportunity the next time.

Read a book that would do you good.  Make it about something that interests you or inspires you.  You have the time.

Give it away.  Think about that friend that you have mentioned F3 to many times.  You know he needs it so get him out.  And then do it to someone else.  Pick them up.  Post with them.  If they post and you aren’t there, you will do 50 burpees the next time you post.  I am sure the Folsom crew won’t mention that you failed to post with your FNG on their Slack channel or group text.

Be grateful for your family.  Be the example for your kids.  Push the rock and hold yourself accountable.  Give it away.  Realize it isn’t about you.  Serve others.  Be the best you can be.  Maybe we will all be a little better in June because we will be intentional about it.    Make positive change in yourself and make it contagious.

It all begins Sunday so prepare yourself and plan!

Midoriyama Millennium

When YHC decided to take the Q, he already had the Weinke locked and loaded. YHC had posted at the Schiele a while back with Brownstreak at the helm. He announced that the workout was the “Millennium”. Different exercises performed with a total of 1000 reps performed. YHC wondered if he could pull the same workout off at Midoriyama with 15 minutes less than Sir Streak. No problem. YHC will cut out the mosey and keep the warmup “Whoopee friendly”. It seems as if rain follows YHC and his Q schedule.  Def Leppard texted YHC 15 minutes before the workout and said “might need a rainy day Weinke”. Well sir, YHC does. It’s called get out in it and get it done! The rain started 5 minutes before start, which YHC totally loved. 10 men answered the call, and 5:30 hit. Time to get to it.

  • CDD’s x 25
  • Block Curls x 25

  • Merkins x 25

1000 reps completed just in time. Mucho mumble chatter from the PAX during the few rest periods during the workout. The rain poured relentlessly for the duration of the workout. Maybe YHC should request his F3 name be changed to Rain Man. On a positive note, it did keep the PAX cool on an evening where it’s usually warming up pretty good. Hard work by every man in attendance. Props to Wheezy for doing his flutter kicks under Swimmer’s dropped tailgate of his truck. #worksmarternotharder.

YHC took us out in prayer.

Moleskin:

This past Tuesday, Swimmer shared a story of his Father passing away when Swimmer was only 5 years old and how he has “outlived” his dad by 6 weeks now. He also mentioned how important it was to know you’re right with the Sky Q, then live every day to the fullest, because we aren’t guaranteed tomorrow.

That made YHC stop and think about his life and his family. YHC’s daughter will be off to her Junior prom this Saturday. YHC can’t believe how fast time has flown and all the time he thought he had to spend with her has almost completely vaporized. At lot of PAX out there with an empty nest can relate. Every day is a precious gift from above and should not be taken for granted. YHC urges all PAX to be intentional about spending time with their family and friends, because once the day is gone, it’s gone. YHC is trying to be the HIM his family needs and the Sky Q expects. Thank all of you for your encouragement and allowing YHC to lead.

Until the next time,

Slaw

Knock out the Pledge and off for a short mosey to the small soccer field

The Thang:

Time’s almost up so let’s head back to the flag with a quick stop on the way for 20 Mike Tyson’s IC called by Blart.

COT:

Announcements – Virtual run at Rankin Lake Saturday for Operation Sweet Tooth, see Pizza Man. Global 6k for Water May 19th, see Broke.

Prayer Request – Huckleberry, PAX who haven’t posted in a while.

Moleskin – Welcome to FNG Michael Sumner – Pink Panther, strong work on your first post. All PAX were pushing hard today and it’s a pleasure to be a part of such a strong group of HIM’s. All kind’s of EC going on before the workout; Blart and Pockets running, Wojo and Swimmer on the bikes, everyone pushing to get better.

Reach out to someone in this group  if there’s anything you need or are struggling with something. Life is tough enough as it is, you don’t have to go at it alone. On the flip side, if a brother reaches out to you, be there for him.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 says “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor; If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”

YHC took us out in prayer. As always, it is an honor.

-Broke

Pull Me Up

16 strong at warming Midoriyama on a beautiful day in a crowded park. Great to see a big crowd so let’s get after it. Tool Time and Pizza Man were running so off they went at their super quick pace while the rest of us hit the warmup.

SSH x 10 IC, Cotton Pickers x 10 IC, Hillbillies x 10 IC, Pledge

Longish mosey around the softball fields to the middle parking lot where Sidewalk Chalk of Pain listed an exercise in 5 parking spots. Pick a parking spot to start and after the exercise run to the end of the parking lot around the trash can and back, then to the next spot. 10 Burpees, 20 Flutters, 30 CDD’s, 40 Squats, 50 Seal Jacks. I started in the CDD’s parking spot, of course. Everyone completed a full round, several completed a couple of extra spots. Mosey back to the flag, just because YHC forgot some needed items #QFail1. After a quick count off, mosey back to the small soccer field where a nice layout of various coupons await.

This is the No Soccer Arms portion of the workout. The larger armed guys (Defib, Slaw, Canteen and maybe one other) selected the larger blocks and many selected the half blocks and a few of us the smallest blocks. Curls x 30, On Your Six Chest Presses x 30, Tricep Curls x 30, Shrugs x 30 and Yes, Repeat.

With some time left, we set up for Frisbee Rules Football and count off by 2’s to split the teams that somehow we messed up #QFail2. Lots of scoring, no defensive penalties since Freight wasn’t here. Our play was throw it high to Easy Rider and it worked several times. I’m quite sure my team won, as usual when I write the backblast.

Mosey back to the flag.

Announcements: 3rd F Event at the Porch at Parkwood Friday at 7 pm, Speed for Need at the Community Foundation Run 5K this Saturday at 9 am.

COT remembering the ones mentioned. Remember Canteen as he is getting married in a few weeks. My son Logan is still having seizure problems.

*We ran over 2 miles and over 400 reps performed. Great to see Slaw back from work. Great to see Short Sale, Easy Rider, Roadie and Hipaa in the afternoon. Great to see Lil Sweet and Sidecar back with us. Gomer is back and feeling better but with a cracked rib. I forgot to share a word with the guys #QFail3 at the end about a 30 second video. The video shows a group of military guys easily going over a 10 foot wall working together. I meant to say how a man by himself could never get over that wall but together they not only did it, but did it in less than 30 seconds. That’s what having a group of your guys can do. They can pull you up and over walls you never could manage by yourself. This morning on the F3 Q Source tweet a guy named Bill Nye was talking about being the Q while still being injured. His question was how do I push these guys when most of them could leave me behind very quickly? I was struggling through the same question but my guys pulled me up and over that wall with them today. This is a reminder to keep asking guys to post. Keep checking on guys that need to come back. Keep posting yourself to help lift that guy that needs it.
