Tool Time

Folsom B.O.M.B.S

7 #HIM made it to Folsom this am to perform some BOMBS.

Warmup; Before any other exercise this morning the Pax were surprised with the Slaughter Starter. It’s a good one. Then it was LBC’s, Flutterkicks, and Boat to Canoes all by 15 IC. We then moseyed to the lower parking lot for the Thang.

Thang; YHC looked for some new exercises last night and stumbled across the BOMBS. Definitely a #DRP. Partner up.
Burpee x 50
Overhead Claps x 100
Merican x 150
Big Boy Situps x 200
Squats x 250
Partner 1 starts exercise and partner 2 runs 50 yds up hill to speed bump and back, change and pick up count where P1 is and it is P1 turn to run. This is a good one, perfect for time and will be feeling the Big Boy Situps for a while. Strong work by all men. Tclaps to Sparky and Bulldog for taking the trophy this am. All pax pushed the rock this morning. Mosey back to the upper lot and perform 5 Merican Wipes.

Moleskin; Allen Tate said it was good to see YHC again, we both have been MIA from Folsom as of late. Mumble chatter began at the Slaughter Starter which was 20 burpees right out of the gate. #Crowdpleaser for sure. Sparky you still owe us 20 sir. Think someone mentioned announcements around #15. Boat to Canoes were a hit as well and tough to count through the moans and groans. AYE! Running the hill during the BOMBS was a challenge and the Pax crushed it. We tracked a little over 1.5 miles. The merican wipes were the finishing touch; in the down position touch nose to right hand and then to left hand w/o moving hands. Nice work. It was a pleasure to lead you men.

BOM; Pledge, Announcements, Namorama, Prayer requests. Thanks Huck for taking us out.

Tour de Folsom

4 Men rolled out of their respective fartsacks and entered the gloom at Folsom to make themselves a little bit better today. After discussing with the PAX about our different reasons for fartsacking lately (sickness, family/company Christmas parties, etc.), YHC knew it would take maximum effort from all PAX to resume pushing that rock! After a quick welcome, YHC began the workout. This is how it went:

Announcements: Palmetto 200 coming up in March. Meeting early February to iron out the details.

Prayer Requests: Pizza man and his family, the F3 PAX running the Charleston half/ full marathon, all F3 brothers facing issues in their lives.

Moleskin:

All the men that posted today pushed hard despite prior sickness or inability to post due to work/ Christmas commitments. Great to see Swimmer back in the gloom. He first posted at Midoriyama last November. After we had covered 1.4 miles during the workout, he then informed YHC on how much he hates cardio! Keep coming out in the gloom, brother! It won’t get easier, you just get stronger! Gumby was pushing hard despite some mean head/ chest congestion. Lil’ Sweet displayed traits of a #HIM by motivating and encouraging the other guys when they looked as if they were running out of gas. Outstanding work by all! Keep pushing the rock!

Until next time,

Slaw

Hunting Season?

Last week Huckleberry put the EH on me to come up and Q Folsom. Actually it did not take much EHing at all – he asked when I was coming to Q so I picked up one of next open slots. I’d been putting off posting with the Folsom PAX up north in Dallas for far too long. In fact I was really looking forward to Qing, until about 0400 when all I heard outside was rain. But weather won’t stop F3. YHC arrived at 0500 this morning for some drive by recon since this was my first Q at the Folsom AO. I was encouraged more as the rain had stopped (at least up here in Dallas). Great AO. Tons of space here, lots to do. Now, with a good sense of the landscape, a proven workout plan, and clearing weather, I just needed to wait for the Folsom crew to show up. So I waited…. and waited…

First group pulls up… Midoriyama (Freight and Pizza Man). While we waited, we discussed ruck sacks and Pizza Man’s sneaker collection. Apparently he has sneakers for every situation (dry, wet, running fast, running far, running faster, running rather, red, blue, pink, etc..).

Still no Folsom regulars. But wait.., what’s this..? GOMER! Ok… Folsom PAX has arrived (and almost parked his truck on the playground – anyone smell gas?)

So at 0531 sharp, we started. Here is what went down.

Warmup
SSH x 20 IC
Don Quiote x 10 IC
Wachamacallits x 20 IC
Thingamajiggers x 15 IC
Merkins x 10 IC

Mosey to lower parking lot

4 Corners
Dying Cockroaches x 20 OYO
LBC x 20 OYO
Russian Twists x 20 OYO
Mountain Climbers x 20 OYO
Rinse and Repeat x5

Bath House Wall Work
Wall sits + air presses x 20 IC (long count – each press up is 1 count)
BTTW (no count – use Bandit’s internal inertia timer. in other words, collapse when Q can’t hold it any longer)
Donkey Kicks x 10 IC (long count – each wall kick is 1 count)
Careful not to wake anyone.
Rinse and Repeat (normal count second round)

Mosey back to upper parking lot

Partner work with Dora, Dora, Dora
Merkins – 100
LBC – 200
Squats – 300 (next time, we can flip flop LBCs and Squats for Freight)

Slow mosey back to SF.

At 0614 we wrap up with 1 minute of Burpees OYO.

Finished up with the Pledge, COT and Namerama

Moleskin

  • Was great to break sweat with Freight and Pizza Man again.  2 days in a row seeing Freight – new Nantan is really getting around.  Strong!
  • Gomer is a stud! Nice work on 4 corners – if YHC were younger, faster and stronger, I would have beat you. But I am not! Not many men are out at 0530 in the gloomy rainy mornings. Even fewer guys 18/19 years old. Thanks for the strong parter work today!
  • Keep Pizza Man’s family in our prayers as they talk to Hospice.
  • Keep those in our prayers that struggle with addiction of all sorts.
  • Glad to hear Mrs. Floppy Disk is doing well!
  • Many Folsom regulars are out in the field to get in a little hunting, enjoying the gifts the sky-Q provides us with on the big ball. Other’s have some challenging work schedules. Looking forward to catching up in the gloom soon.

Santa Claus is coming to town

4 men entered the gloom on a chilly December morning for their DRP, including 1 fng that Gomer EH’ed. After the disclaimer was given the warmup began.

Warmarama: SSH, Hillbillys, Gravel Pickers, Don Quixote X15IC

Thang: Mosey down to lower parking lot to sidewalk towards the amphitheater, keep going to parking lot by the pond. Bearcrawl to every 3rd line do 5 merkins to the end and back to start. Some mumble chatter from our fng about needing some gloves.  Start a set of 11’s  with squats and Bobby Hurleys. Mosey to next parking lot for partner work. 100 merkins for P1 while P2 runs laps till P1 has his 100, switch for p2. Next was 200 lbc’s same format. YHC had to Omaha the last set as time was ticking and I had some other exercises that I wanted to do. Mosey to the amphitheater for some wall work. 10 donkey kicks OYO next was 10 hip slapper also OYO. Time was getting close and we had a fng to name so we start the mosey back to start. Huckleberry said he was disappointed that we haven’the done any big boy’s so who am I to disappoint. Get back to start and 22 big boys are obliged along with 22 merkins for the vets. We name our fng and said the pledge. (Thanks for the flag Gomer)

COT: Announcements, prayer request.

BOM: YHC took us out.                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Good job today men. Nice to have Gian join us today. It’s an honor and a privilege to lead today.

Operation Sweet Tooth – Gastonia Convergence

Prologue

It was an early fall Friday morning at the Pavilion that Bandit and I decided to Q up the Operation Sweet Tooth in support of our brother Olive.  I took the Q at the Gashouse in December and called for a Convergence workout.  Then Bandit asked Olive if we could support the Greater Gaston Boys and Girls Club on behalf of #OST.  Olive graciously offered his support.  That is the beauty of F3.  All you need is an idea and a little initiative and things get done!

We consulted with the GBC for their needs and we sent out a pre-blast and low and behold, 29 PAX and their goodies showed up on the cold morning of December 17th at the Schiele.  GUTS gave me gift cards and sporting goods because he had to work and would miss it.  My neighbor, (future name, “Mastodon”) who has read “Freed to Lead” and is in the throes of a solid EH gave me school supplies the day before.  It was a beautiful thing.

But before we talk about the positive, let’s get to the beat down.  Roscoe started with the warm up and was almost immediately heckled by Tool Time.  Who else?

Warm Up

  • SSH x20 IC
  • Imperial Walkers x20 IC
  • Merkins x20 IC
  • Squats x20 IC
  • LBCs x20 IC
  • 10 Burpees OYO

Mosey to flag for the Pledge.

Pain Station #1

Mosey to Grier parking lot for Speed Bump Merkins.  Start at first speed bump with 20 reps OYO, then sprint to next speed bump for 18 reps.  Continue back and forth decreasing reps (..16,14,12,10,8,6,4,2) for total of 110 merkins.  Dolph led some ab exercises while the PAX completed the exercise.  Some started out correctly but then got confused and did elevens.  It was all good.

Pain Station #2

Mosey to Grier track for Partnerama.  P1 planks on P2’s shoes while P2 does 15 old school sit-ups. Switch and repeado x3.

Pain Station #3

Continue Partnerama with P1 and P2 running track clockwise and counter clockwise respectively.  When they meet (hopefully near the middle), both perform the following:

  • 1/2 lap #1 = 10 Seal Jacks
  • 1/2 lap #2 = 10 Squat Jumps
  • 1/2 lap #3 = 20 Seal Jacks
  • 1/2 lap #4 – 20 Squat Jumps

Bandit takes over, continuing the Partnerama activities:

Pain Station #4

Given the choice to keep same partner or change it up, Bandit clarifies SIZE MATTERS for the next round.  After some adjustments, partners complete the following (10 seal jacks if partners need to switch early):

  • Wheelbarrow – P1 wheelbarrows P2 from goal line to 50 yd line. Flip flop back. Plank for the 6.
  • Partner Carries – P1 wheelbarrows P2 from goal line to 50 yd line. Flip flop back. Plank for the 6.
  • Bear Crawls – P1 bear crawls/P2 lunge walks from goal line to 50 yd line. Flip flop back. Plank for the 6.

Editor’s Note:  This was bad.

Pain Station #5

After breaking up partners into two teams (all P1 are team 1, all P2 are team 2), each time lines up for 50 yard tunnel of love.  Starting at goal line, first in line crawls under rest of PAX who are maintaining high plank, shoulder to shoulder. After crawling through tunnel, PAX will continue the high plank.  This continues as each member goes through the tunnel -all the way to the 50 yard line.

Editor’s Note:  This was worse.

Handing the reigns back to Roscoe to wrap things up:

Pain Station #6

Circle up for 10 minutes of Burpees. Circle is divided into 4 groups. One’s do 1 burpee and count “ONE”, Two’s do 1 burpee and count “TWO”, Three’s do 1 burpee and count “THREE”, Four’s do 1 burpee and count the rep (1,2,3,4,5…, to ~30). The clock was ticking and we needed to get back to the Schiele so an audible was called after the 7 or 8 minute mark and 33 burpees.

With 5 minutes to go, PAX mosey back to parking lot at the Schiele for COT.  The toys were assembled and Hushpuppy was setting up for the photo when the Mayor arrived with more goodies.  We waited for him to hustle in to the picture.  He worked very late the night before but wanted to give away some gifts. #HIM

Roscoe had to get home to head to out of town so Bandit was in charge of the toy collection and he loaded up his car.

Epilogue

On Monday afternoon Roscoe and Bandit headed to the Boys and Girls Club to deliver the gifts.  Here is what went down.

As we were approaching the building, we saw the Director Chad and explained what we were doing and why.  He was well informed about OST and Christina and F3 after having done some online research.  He told us that he had to leave but that Miss Mary and others were waiting for us.  However, before he left, we gave him a solid EH.   (He is in the South Charlotte/Pineville region)

We were welcomed into the club and some of the wonderful employees told us where we could place the gifts.  We lined up all the gifts and suddenly a baker’s dozen of smiling faces welcomed us for a picture holding whatever they wanted to take from the boxes.  We took a photo and thought that would be the end of our visit until they asked if the children could take us on a tour of the facility.  This was getting better!

We started with a meeting room where the local Optimist club meets.  There were many picture frames on the wall of previous board members or Optimist Club presidents from years past.  Many prominent names from the community were on that wall. #HIM

We continued to the Art room, the study hall, the computer room, and the game room. At each stop different kids were telling us what they do there.  They were so proud of their club and happy to show it off.  Then it was time to see the gym where somewhere in the ballpark of 100 kids were sitting on the bleachers.  We were led into the gym with our escorts and suddenly the gym erupted like a high school pep rally.  It took a second and then we realized all that cheering was for us!  I instantly wished we had all the Gashouse PAX with us to feel this humbling gesture from the kids.  To cap it off, Miss Mary invited us to “center court” and told the kids about meeting “some of the people behind the scenes that make things happen”.  She gave us a card that the kids had made and signed.  It was overwhelming!

If you remember that Dr. Feelgood (#HIM) danced in the “Dancing for Future Star’s event in March and helped raise $326,000 for the Boys and Girls club.  You would have thought that the OST Convergence had raised at least that much!  2017 stretch goal???

The Gashouse PAX would like to thank Olive for Operation Sweet Tooth.  Out of heartbreaking loss, we remember Christina by honoring her through good deeds for children.  We would not have had this experience without them.  At least three members of the BGC read about Operation Sweet Tooth, learned about Christina, and about F3.  I believe the PAX honored her memory by “keeping her spirit alive by providing hope and joy to children who may be less fortunate to have a positive impact and experience on their lives.

Roscoe received the following note from Miss Mary this morning…

GM Roscoe, I want to reach out again and say, Thank You All so much for coming out and spending time with the kids and bringing all those supplies. You really don’t have any idea what that meant to those kids giving you guys a tour of the building. Roscoe after hearing what F3 means Faith , Fellowship & Fitness I hope I got that right!! I did look it up on the internet and read the story about Christina. What you all are doing is a Blessing, keep on keeping on.

Did you read that?  Keep on keeping on.

The idea incubator is alive and well with future opportunities to serve the Boys and Girls Club and OST.

KEEP ON KEEPING ON…..

Well Done Gashouse.  Well done!

Global Warming in full effect

3 bundled up pax and 1 t-shirted and shorts pax entered the global warmed 18 degree morning beatdown at Folsom. No time to stand still in the cold the pax came in ready to get moving. No fng’s and YHC felt like if you were here in these temps, then it was a given that we were all off in the head. So let’s get this thang going.

warmup: SSH, Hillbillys, Don Quixote, Cherry Pickers all done 15 IC.

Thang

Mosey long way to the parking lot by the pond below the baseball fields. Here we started with bear crawl 3 spaces then 5 merkins to the end then return. YHC heard a bit of mumble chatter here something about this being stupid, and I’m sure all of our fingers were frozen. Short mosey to the next parking lot where someone mentioned that was the kind of mosey they liked. Little did the pax know that we were going to make up for that short mosey. A little Dora-ish exercise (thanks for the idea Huck) was about to be dealt. Partner up and while P1 runs laps around the parking lot P2 exercises. Once P2 is done, P1 starts his while P2 runs laps. Each pax finished 100 merkins, 200 lbc’s and 300 mountain climbers and 6 laps. Shortly after the start of this set YHC started shedding a couple of the sweatshirts following the lead of Freight after the bearcrawls. The mumble chatter continued and so did the frozen fingers. After the short mosey to the Folsom Hill we did 10 big boy situps at top, run down the hill for 10 squats and bernie sanders or nur as I was told it was called at some other AO’s.(at least 1 of the pax felt like a nur could come in handy in a bad situation LOL) Repeat 3x OYO. Another short mosey to the bottom shelter and here we get 2 sets of step ups, dips, and derkins all done 15 IC. With the exception of the last set of derkins.(we did 10 IC) YHC’s shoulders were done. Mosey to the amphitheater for some donkey kicks and hip slappers x10 OYO. Time nearly up so we sprint AYG back to start for 22 merkins for the vets and pledge.

COT:Announcements, Men’s retreat at Snowbird in March, Gashouse convergence next Saturday at the Schiele  December 17th , after Christmas party January 7th. Prayer request BOM: YHC took us out.

Awesome work today by all, thanks for the opportunity to lead, it’s an privilege and honor.

Box Jumps Are not An F3 exercise!

Expecting cooler weather, 5 Pax roll up into the gloom while a mist of rain is still in the air. It was actually very nice at 53 degrees for the set Q. On the ride in, the F3 Folsom group text started tuning in. Roadie, Shingle, and sparky mention they wer n the way. Well, Sparky is usually not on time and coming in hot around 10 minutes in, but not today. Shingle rolls in with a comfortable minute to go, then coming in real hot is Roadie, not sure how that ole Yota handles the turns like it does but it arrives seconds before warmup. It’s 5:30, Sparky still has 10 minutes to be on his time. Let’s hit it.

no FNGs so, short disclaimer

warmarama

SSH, plank jacks, imperial walkers, and cherry pickers?(cotton pickers?) all x12 IC. Mumble chatter about why 12? YHC asks why not 50? But, we are still reminiscing a Gomer Q, where who knows what number of anything you’ll get, maybe 74 or 68? Just depends, anyway, back to it.

tha thang

hold up…….just as QIC said let’s mosey, Roadie yelled “wait” so we waited a second. With the look of something majestic in his eyes, Roadie says, ” hey, look at the shovel flag and how it was flawlessly waving with the wind! We should do the pledge!” YHC abliged, the flag was looking pretty damn awesome so tha Pledge.

now….. Tha Thang.

long mosey up to the horse arena. Mumble chatter, Huckleberry said something about wishing the horse arena were no more, and others saying “it’s never good going up the hill at Folsom!” Through all that, I reminded the PAX of Whoopee’s shadow of Dredd. “Fatigue makes cowards of us all,” that hit home, so the Men dug in. Alright, at the arena Concrete stands, find a spot. Box jump up each of the 5 levels, at the top 10 burpees, come down, 10 dips on the lower step, then 10 Merkins. Once announced, Huck mentioned “I’m not sure box jumps are a F3 exercise!” YHC said it should be, hahahaahaha. Anyway. When finished, take a quick lap around the arena track. Plank it up, then rinse and repeat. Once finished, long mosey down to the pond parking lot. More mumble chatter, something about, “the only time we come to this lot is for bear crawls” they were right. Line up, bear crawl to the center line, 5 Merkins, continue to the end for 10 Merkins, turn around and repeat back to start. Plank it up, now lunge walk to the center for 5 squats, then to the end for 10 squats, turn around and repeat back to start. Long mosey around the lower pond to the shelter. LBCs x20 IC, some slow cadence involved, 20 big boy sit-ups OYO, YHC hears something about a Gomer Q, so 10 burpees OYO. Gomer never Qs burpees. Rinse repeat. Time running short, QIC had to include a favorite of Whoopee, so mosey to the Turd Shed for some hip slappers, 10 IC. Alright, good finishing mosey back to the upper lot, which is always rough at the end, but the PAX pushed tha rock and fought the hill. Time running out, I had to pay respect to the Vets with 22 Merkins OYO.

Man, Sparky must still be on his way?????

Announcements, Snowbird Men’s Retreat, March 9-11. Convergence December 17 at Gashouse.

prayer, YHC

just want to say how thankful I am to be a part of this group and movement. The accountability and encouragement that F3 has set the tone for is Awesome. To be honest, without it, I wouldn’t be up at 5:30 4 days a week doin this! Thanks for the opportunity to Q. Great work Men, let’s keep it up. As Dredd says, “it starts with love!”  How could you not love F3? Even though it is pretty ridiculous.
