Return of the Chief

9 “Hims” showed this am anxiously awaiting the return and beatdown from the man known as Chief!! I was a few minutes late so as i arrived i noticed the men were already side straddle hopping. I jumped out and took the reigns and away we went.

Warmup:  toy soldiers 20ic, imperial walkers 20ic,

The Thang:  mosey to tennis court and started off with 11,s with burpees and mountain climbers. After 11,s we circled up for some “core time with chief”. 20 WW2,s, 20 American Hammers, 20 LBCs, 20 Sandy Vees aka da “Rhondas”, Alphabet game, ring of LBCs holding the crunch, ring of merkins holding the plank and finishing up with hip slappers on da fence 20ic. Finishing up we all lunge walked back to parking lot.

Pledge, COT

BOM -I took us out in prayer

So this is my first official backblast with the help of good ol Huck. It was good to be back in the gloom this am with my tribe. Nice work by all the pax.

Allen Tate “CHIEF”

The Kitchen Sink

This Q has been in the works for quite some time. Admittedly, I’m not a Folsom regular, having only posted a few times but their reputation precedes itself for their brotherhood, their coffee-rama, and most assuredly their mumble chatter. I had plenty of time to plan the workout – some of it worked and some were Q fails. 19 Strong overcame the fartsack to brave the high 30’s temperature. Sparky brought and FNG, so the disclaimer had to be emphasized: “…we’re not professionals, you vs. you, modify as needed, blah, blah, blah…” Here we go:

Pledge, Warm-up “SSH, in position move, in cadence, ready? exercise: One – Two-Three – One…that’s the warm-up mosey to the tennis court (Whoopee – you would be proud)

Thang: I pulled this from The Storm – the W drill to get the blood flowing. PAX begin at the baseline, run to the net, NUR to the “T” in the middle, run forward to the net, NUR to the baseline, do 2 burpees. Repeat that pattern for all 6 courts; plank for the six. The grumbling began early. With 19, I decided to split the group in half to run it back.

Mary is typically left out in the cold for workouts but not today. That sweet lady gets some early love this morning. Circle up for three different ab exercises, 25 seconds each for 3 circuits with a 25 second rest between circuits. Set 1 • Flutter Kicks • Freddie Mercury • Plank Jacks Set 2 • X Crunch • American Hammer • Ski Abs I had a playlist organized for this one. I knew the Site Q Montross is a big JT fan and with Slaw in the circle, “Can’t Stop the Feeling” led off. I had a few things in mind with this. First, the music was sure to start the chatter, good or bad. Second, the order was to target the abs along with some cardio. Try out the X Crunch: on your six, legs together, arms over your junk. Move your legs wide and your arms wide over your head (forming an “X”) then return. The American Hammers and Ski Abs further targeted your obliques, which are often neglected, but how else can you shape the six pack? Embrace the suck.

Staying on the tennis courts, split into teams with 4 men each (one team had only 3). This looked better on paper and after everyone got flowing as to where to go and what to do, it began to work. With better instruction (and probably a little more light to read the Q-cards) this will work better. I’ll attempt to describe: P1 is on Court 1 with 1/2 blocks doing Squat Press, Curls, Tricep Extensions – all x 10 P2 is between Court 2 & 3 doing lunge jumps, Mtn. Climbers, SSH’s – all x 10 P3 is between Court 4 & 5 doing Merkins, Imperial Walkers, and Burpee Lunge – all x 10 P4 begins by carrying sandbags to replace with P2; P2 carries the sandbag to exchange with P3 who then travels to the beginning to exchange with P1. The rotation went like I’d intended for at least two rounds but confusion and pace limited us to one round. I had done something similar at Midoriyama using only 3 stations. I’ll work to refine before breaking out again.

Mosey to the lower parking lot for the make-shift Folsom Country Club executive course (bet-cha never thought those words would be associated with a Folsom workout). The course was set up with three holes and being irreverent to the rules, we divided into “six-somes” and a “seven-some.” Throw a corn-hole bag and travel to that bag using these “shots:” lunge walk, burpee broad-jump, bear crawl, crab walk, and bunny hop. However many shots it took you to “hole-out” (shut your dirty mouth…) you multiply, yes I said multiply that number times the number of reps on the flag. Hole 1 was a par 4 with 10 squats. If it took you 4 shots to get there, 4×10= 40 squats – make sense? maybe? Hole 2 was a par 3 with 5 Burpees and Hole 3 was a par 5 with 10 Merkins. Despite the PAX not paying attention to all the instructions, I think it sort of accomplished the goal.

Now less than 5 minutes remained so to the picnic shelter for the final task that was originally done at the GasHouse this summer: 99 Beers on the Wall. Montross volunteered to select the beverage from the cooler. He chose the 24 ounce Busch Light which asked the PAX to perform Burpees then Flutter Kicks. The clock was set to 99 seconds, perform burpees until you can’t (or don’t want to) do any more. Then do Flutter Kicks. We hustled back to the start a little over time.

COT: Prayers lifted for Montross’s aunt, Bedpan’s M, EZ Rider’s family, Nikki Bailey, Roadie working out of town, and each other. Happy Birthday to Swimmer. We welcomed Ryon Dearing to the fraternity, now known as Tater Hole (it could have been worse). YHC took us out.

Moleskin: Despite some Q fails, the workout exceeded my expectations, not for the content, but for the community. There were a few moments of quiet, highly unusual in the hallowed grounds of Folsom but it proved to be a calm before the storm as the chatter filled the air most of the workout. Despite instructions occasionally falling on deaf ears, a lot of hard work was put in. Pearl Jam was out front for much of the day. Mozart about ran me over sprinting to the finish. Volt never skips a rep. I appreciate Madoff and Roscoe venturing over to the northside (I would mention Broke but he claimed to be a Folsom regular). This workout went by in about 10 minutes as my mind raced through instructions, monitoring the progress against the plan, and decisions of when to move on. I tried to cram about two workouts into an single hour to provide some flavor of my Q’s. Leaving some things untouched on the Weinke means I have to make a return visit soon. Hope the guys enjoyed it as much as I did.

11’s? Kinda Sorta

Pulled into Folsom this morning passing Volt and Roundup as they get some EC in before the workout. Good work! When I get to the parking area Medicine Woman is waiting for the beat down to begin. Few minutes pass and cars start showing and the PAX are ready for the beat down.

Warmarama:

SSH, Don Q’s, X 15 IC, MN’s till Montross gets in the circle.

Thang:

Mosey from parking area to the first light pole. Flutter Kicks X 20 IC, next light pole we do Mountain Climbers X 20 IC. Alternate between these two exercises at the light poles all the way to the flag. Each set led by a different PAX. (thanks guys) Get to the flag and pledge.

Next short mosey to parking lot at entrance. I think most of the PAX thought there would be 11’s. I do call those a lot but I wanted to mix it up a little. There are 3 islands and a service road at this lot so we did an escalating suicideish type workout.

Island 1, 10 Burpee’s

Island 2, 20 Big Boy Situps

Island 3, 30 Squats

Island 4, 40 LBC’s

You can’t go to the next exercise without returning to start and starting over, we finish this round and then flip it up and reverse it. Now starting with 40 Big Boys at the first island etc., Good work men 6:10 let’s head back to start.

Roundup took off like he was shot from a gun and the rest of us followed.

Announcements:

Short Sale with the Q at Folsom Saturday. Put on your big boy panties and pull your shorts up. Guaranteed to be a beat down.

Prayer Request:

Montross’s Aunt, Rockabilly’s Mom, Medicine Woman, Hacksaw’s MIL, each other.

YHC took us out.

Great work today men, nice to see a good crowd at Folsom. A lot of guys posting 3 times this week so far, including Rockabilly who was an FNG on Tuesday. Way to push man! Keep at it!

As always it was an honor and a privilege to lead this morning.

Going Old School

Nineteen dudes showed this morning at Folsom. When Folsom first started a Saturday workout, the attendance was rather pitiful. It was the same guys every week. Taking old school a little, I decided to seek out the other men that were consistent at the time. Four Qs. 06:30 hits and we start with a disclaimer.

In the end Allen Tate, now know as Elizabeth Warren, decided to show up.

Warmup: 5 SSH IC

Mosey down to the lower turd shack.

Australian Mountain climbers x 30IC, 20 Hip slappers OYO, 20 Australian mountain climbers and LBC x 105 IC. 105 is a lot.

Up the stairs stopping on each step for 5 calf raises.

Sparky takes over. In the long parking lot, bear crawl to each second line and do 5 burpees. This took his entire 15 minutes.

Gumby takes over. In the shelter, complete dips, derkins, lbcs and step ups all x 15 and then run a lap. Repeat as many times as possible for 15 minutes.

Medicine Woman takes over and we are now at the tennis courts. Burpee suicides for 15 minutes.

The Montross Christmas Spectacular

Sweat courtesy of Freight

YHC hung the shovel flag with care, with hopes that the PAX soon would be there. With the rain finally gone and a few guys out of town, Montross has the Q and is bringing a beatdown.

I knew we would be missing a few Saturday regulars so I arrived to Folsom unsure how many HIM would be there. All the best to those running the Santa Hustle today, hope it went well and all were safe!

Turns out we had 7 this morning for a Christmas-themed workout. Get some!

Warmup:
SSH – 10 in cadence
Toy Soldiers – 10 IC
Monkey Humpers – 10 IC
5 Burpees
Let’s mosey!

Thang:
Mosey to the flag at the entrance of Folsom for the pledge.

Short mosey over to the parking lot.

12’s – as in the 12 Days Of Christmas. Just like 11’s but with a bonus lap. We did Merkins and WW1s. The guys got this done a few minutes quicker than I expected!

Lets mosey down through the park. We head left at the fork to the lower parking lot by the softball fields. There is some mud to navigate right now. Fat Ricky noted that Tool Time could run through the mud and still have clean shoes. The outgoing Nantan is special, but I don’t know if he is that special!

Santa’s Sack – we did a variation of a Triple Nickel here – partner up, size matters. Partner 1 planks, partner 2 puts his feet on partner 1 and does 5 Merkins, then partner 2 jumps on partner 1’s pack for a piggyback rode across the lot. Flip positions, 5 Merkins and another piggyback ride across the lot. That was 1. 4 more times for 5 total.

Let’s mosey! We cruise down and around the pond and up the hill to the tennis courts.

Run Run Rudolph – I forgot to share the name of this, but it goes like this: run to the end of the first court, 10 burpees, run back, 2nd court 20 jump lunges, run back, 3rd court 30 tuck jumps, run back, 4th court 40 squats, run back, 5th court 50 merkins, run back, 6th court 60 LBCs.

We did a few rounds of Captain Thor, but it wasn’t flowing so I Omaha.

Mary – everyone called an exercise and led it.
Gumby – Heels to Heaven 10 OYO
Swimmer – Flutter Kicks 25 IC
Freight – In and Outs 20? IC
Mozart – Freddie Mercuries 20 IC
Volt – Sandy Vs – 15? IC
Hacksaw – 10 burpees and 10 Hillbillies each leg.

Time! As we got up and saw pools of sweat around the tennis courts, we noticed Freight’s silhouette left a little extra surpise…the Folsom logo!

Prayer Requests: families at Christmas, and Hacksaw’s dad and step-mom. You don’t have to fear death if you know where you are going!!!! YHC took us out in prayer.

Moleskin: I wanted to bring some scripture and beer to the workout this morning. I know, not a normal combination! Here me out though…My message to the guys this morning is about celebrating the birth of Jesus, first and foremost. As I looked at scripture related to Christmas, one thing thst caught my eye is how Joseph had just married Mary and she was pregnant before the consummated. Therefore, he had to be thinking ‘what will people say’, ‘is she lying’…many questions….but the angel of the Lord spoke to him and he leaned on his faith. He obeyed the Lord. Joseph was a real HIM. One of the OG HIMs!

In addition to Christ’s birth, let’s also celebrate friends and family. Enjoy the time with your wife and kids and soak it in. Let’s also enjoy time with our F3 brothers….that is where the beer(amd other beverages in my cooler) comes in LOL. With Roadie and Huck absent, there were no takers on the beer, however we enjoyed some water and Gatorade together.

I suppose I will have to bring the beer back.

City Boy

Apparently if you don’t live in Dallas you are considered “City Boy”, this is according to the Folsom GroupMe chat. Well this “City Boy” decided to take the Q, even though I have been hesitant to Q there again after very consistent slim showing of PAX when I Q there. The night before I guessed that about 4 PAX would show from the normal Folsom crowd.  Arrived at Folsom on the cool, brisk morning to actually find 5. Should’ve been 6 but I guess Sparky got stuck in his tree stand and couldn’t get out. In all fairness Sparky did let YHC know his Sandy V, I mean his Medicine Woman Leg, I mean his leg, was bothering him the night before. Although the PAX did let me know that they thought he said his leg was fine??? Its all good Sparky, you’re my family so I let it slide.

Warmup

SLAWTER STARTER! (20 Burpees)

Next, grab a cinder block and head to the Tennis courts.

The Thang:

I’ve really missed seeing Mayor at workouts, I know his back has been bothering him so not calling him out for not posting. He’s a true HIM. That said I decided to take a page out of his book and brought the HUNDO to Folsom but with some added twists. The HUNDO is 100 reps of a given exercise. Here were the instructions given to the PAX from the City Boy:

Do 100 reps of the exercise. If you stop/pause during the reps it’s 1 burpee for each time you stop. Keep that number in your head and wait until you finish your 100 reps. When we are all done with our reps, we will collectively add up the number of stops amongst the PAX and multiply that number by 2. ALL PAX will perform said number of burpees.

1st set:

100 curls

Apparently Volt didn’t understand this City boy’s instructions. Maybe I talk funny?? All I know is when some PAX stopped the first time they did their burpee. I told them to wait.  Boy was Volt hot when we all finished and he had to burpees together! Yes, Volt, even you had to do them. I know you didnt stop during your set, but we did. And this was explained in the instructions.

4 stops = 8 burpees

After Volt complained we mixed up the HUNDO a little and went on a small mosey around the Tennis courts, in a very weird, HIPAA like fashion.

Arrived back at our blocks

100 Chest presses. Lets mix this up and start doing Flutter kicks when you hit 50 reps. If memory serves correctly, everyone finished their sets with no stopping

Mosey around tennis court again, but this time just around the outer edge, nothing fancy this time.

100 Overhead Presses

6 stops = 12 burpees

Mosey around tennis court again in that weird HIPAA way

100 Dips. Try and use the cinder block if you can. Bedpan disappered out of the tennis courts for these. We only can assume he actually did the exercise, but I doubt it.

5 stops = 10 burpees

Mosey around tennis court again in that weird HIPAA way

Volt had enough of my delivering of pain and decided it was best he hit the road. See ya man, Ill make sure you get in the Backblast!

100 Overhead Tricep Extensions but with a twist. I decided to call this a 50/50 split as i knew we’d be stopping a lot on this. So heres what we did. Break out the F3 workout deck. Do 50 reps. If you stop during the 50 reps, grab a card from the deck. After we all finish 50 1 PAX grabs a card from the deck to perform after we finish all 100 reps. Do your other 50 reps, again If you stop during the 50 reps, grab a card from the deck. Now that we finished the 100 reps grab another card.

10 stops = 20 Burpees

4 Cards were drawn in total. Bear Crawl (Q chooses distance), High Plank, Low Plank & Rosalittas. We bear crawled to the net and back then did our planks about 45 seconds each, then T-Ron led us on Rosalittas.

70 Burpees total today!

For the PAX trying to figure out what the hell YHC was doing when moseying, this was the end result. Little fun with Strava.

Blocks and Jesus

I had the Q today, my 2 goals were… workout with blocks and talk about Jesus! Here’s how it went…

Warmup- ssh,  Hillbillies, Monkey Humpers

Partner up, one parter grab a block and head to the tennis court! For some Dora!

50 Blockies

75 triceps

150 curls

200 squats

200 lbc’s

200 block presses

put the blocks up its 605, mosey to the bottom parking lot. Line up at the bottom for some Bear crawl Merkins! Bear crawl the full length, do 2 merkins at every other line! Mosey back to start, Gumby and myself were in the front, he said that speed bump looks like a good place to do 10 burpees! I said great idea, the rest of the pax didn’t think so.

So theat was the Block part, now to the Jesus part!

Have you ever thought about Jesus before he came to earth? What was he doing? Well, in the book of Isaiah chapter 6, Isaiah got a glimpse and the angels were around the Lord on His throne, having to cover there eyes because His glory shined so brightly! And the where saying, “Holy,Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of your glory !”

This King, stepped out of that! For you and I! That’s crazy! He loves us so much, that he left , came to earth, just to rescue us, from an eternity separated from Him! What an awesome God!

I was reminded of all of this, reading a advent series that snowbird is Putting out daily, until Christmas. It’s a short read, also at the end, it has some resources, and if you have family, it has some things to share with them, even a couple follow up questions! Good stuff! If your looking for a good read, building up to Christmas, check it out swoutfitters.com !

prayer request- Montross, he is having his annual checkup today, he has been cancer free for a couple of years now! Double Down, that God would be with him and the doctors, through the surgery. Each other!

Men, thank you for giving me the privilege to lead you this morning!

Baker’s Dozen

A baker’s dozen showed at Folsom for another Pizza Man delivery.  During the workout we covered over 2.5 miles and did Route 66, 11’s, killed our arms on the picnic tables, more 11’s, and finally 4 corners.  Great work by all that posted this morning.  As always, thanks for the opportunity to lead and it’s always a pleasure teaching leadership to the younger PAX that posted.

Always remember Philippians 4:13…I can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens me.

Until next time….Pizza Man is OOOUUUUTTTTTT!!
