Horrible…..and Confusing

YHC had been looking forward to lead the regions best AO in a good ole beat down. Today was the day. I had my Weinke prepared and was ready to get to work. I walk outside and felt the chill in the air and thought to myself, “my hands ain’t gonna like today.” So, I roll on to Folsom a bit early to stretch and chat before time to clock in. When 5:30 hits, we start.

No FNGs, short disclaimer

Warmarama

SSH, Imperial Walkers, Low slow squats: all x10 IC

Mosey up to the animal shelter to grab a block.

Thang

Line up at the base of the adjacent hill. The routine called was 11’s. And these were horrible. Blockees at the bottom of the hill, box jump over the block, then rifle carry the block up the hill for thrusters. Rifle carry your block back down. And yes, you box jump over your block after each blockee! Lots of mumblechatter from the PAX, myself included. This seemed to take longer than I expected, but in all honesty, we finished it fairly quick. Now, Replace blocks and mosey to tennis courts. Line up for burpee suicides. Mosey one court and back for 1 burpee, grab 5 merkins at each turn back. Mosey to the second and back for 2 burpees. Continue until you’ve reached the final court then count it back down to 1. Escalate the burpees but the merkins stay at 5.  This was a battle to get the PAX on track. The chatter here was broad and pronounced. Lots of confusion of the called routine. “Do we escalate the merkins?” “Do we stop after the last court?” “The math part is easy.” We pulled together and finally made it through.  Time is running out, so we mosey back to start.

COT Prayers :

Radar’s sister

Tube’s Daughter

I took one of many opportunities this week to request prayers for the Brock family.  I have spent the last couple weeks meditating on the ways in which I take my health, family, belongings and even my life for granted.

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I encourage everyone to take some portion of that time  and spend it reflecting on those closest to you in your life….then tell them.

Try to incorporate as much gratitude into this time as you can and  express it, even if it just means telling someone that you value them and that you appreciate that they’re a part of your life.

True Meaning of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my wife’s favorite holiday. Like myself, my wife is a realist. If you ask, “Is the glass half empty or half full?” She would ask, “Well, did you pour into the cup or out of it?”. Okay, so – she’s not this bad (though, actually, I am). But it is because of this that we may not always appear to be thankful. But we really are, thankful for a lot of things.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”. This makes me think of Psalm 118:24 which says, “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Pentecostals have a song about this we used to sing when I was a kid). I heard a guy just yesterday saying in a store how he didn’t have anything to be thankful for. A guy passing said, “You’re alive aren’t you?” – to which he replied, “Barely”. While the guy seemed to be joking, I kind of felt sorry, or bad, for him.

I recently saw where an actor from my childhood recently committed suicide. People thought he had a lot going for him and he was an inspiration to many. We don’t always know what people are going through, or what they truly are thinking. If you ever need to talk to someone about anything (ANYTHING) seriously don’t hesitate to reach out.

For the lives of Christians it goes beyond giving thanks even while suffering. Another Psalm says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Psalm 107:1. Another Pentecostal song is pulled from another Psalm that reads, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”, Psalm 103:2-5. There’s so much to be thankful for here in these passages/promises.

Really, if you ever wonder why God is good to us, as undeserving as we are (speaking for myself of course) it’s actually pretty simple. Corinthians 9:11 reads, “You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”. God blesses us so we can bless others… one of those others is actually Him.

The true meaning of the word “Thanksgiving” is to glorify God as an act of worship, giving thanks for all the things God has provided (which is actually everything (including the air we’re breathing)). Even Webster’s definition of thanksgiving is, “a public acknowledgment or celebration of divine goodness. : the act of giving thanks. “Divine goodness”, even the world’s chief definer of things can’t deny who we are to be thankful to.

So, while Friend, Food, and Football are all causes for celebration (or feeling thankful for), let’s try to remember the true reason we’re on this earth. That’s to glorify and worship God, giving Him thanks for all he’s done, does, and will continue to do.

Like a lot of preachers I know … I had a workout prepared and ready all week, but woke up this morning with another idea on my mind and my heart. Midoriyama 11/15/22

It was a cold, nasty, rainy day at Midoriyama. YHC made the call and just had the PAX muster at the picnic shelter. It was still cold, nasty and rainy but at least we were dry. YHC figured 1 or 2 guys would post. He was pleasantly surprised when he had a group of 8 show up. No FNG’s, so let’s get going.

Warmup:

Some easy stuff with a few burpees sprinkled in because Def Leppard says “it ain’t a workout unless you do some burpees!”.

Thang:

21 minutes of EMOM. YHC set a repeating 1 minute timer. Each minute we performed:

  • 5 Mike Tysons
  • 10 Flutter Kicks (count right leg)
  • 15 SSH SC

YHC then reset the timer for 21 more minutes of EMOM.

  • Minute 1 – 20 Merkins
  • Minute 2 – 25 WW1’s
  • Minute 3 – 35 Squats

We repeated this circuit for 7 rounds for a total to finish the workout.
