Blood EVERYWHERE

I am writing this backblast while Gastone is recovering in the intensive care unit (not really, but thought I would get your attention with that). I’ll start off by saying we are all fine, however, blood was shed this morning, and a lot of it.

It started out all fine and good. Stroganoff got in some EC while the rest of us were all just hanging out in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter. There was a quiet and calm feeling, like the calm before a storm. And a storm was brewing, my friend, was it ever. None of us knew it, but it was calm like no other calm has ever been in that particular parking lot…..basically, we did not have a lot to say so we started running.

We ran, and we ran, and we ran. Once we got finished running…..we ran some more. As usual, a few led the pack and a few stayed back keeping our comfortable mosey fellowship pace. And it was calm….I think I mentioned that above, but again, not much to say….so it was quiet also, and a little calm.

Somewhere along the way something strange happened. Gastone stopped running and looked back at me with a not-so-calm-and-quiet look…..and then I saw it, blood everywhere. Like a fire hydrant on Mars had been knocked over by a cement truck, red stuff spewing all over the place (Mars is the RED PLANET, everything is red there, right? I think I have read that somewhere). It kept coming, like diarrhea after a bad bunch of Chalupas, too many baskets of chips, and truckload of Tequila. It was coming from his hand, from his eyes, out his ears, and I think he was vomiting it also. It was awful. And it just WOULD. NOT. STOP…..Children were screaming, mothers were fainting, grown men were running (that was us, because this is a running AO). Gastone had stepped on some glass which got stuck in his shoe and was causing some pain so he stopped but most of us kept running because #1, this is a running AO, and #2, it didn’t really look that bad at the time. I think Madoff went back for him to make sure he was ok. The story is Gastone tried to push the glass back through his shoe thinking it was really a nail. The glass cut his hand in a couple places before he knew what was going on. He eventually got it to a place where he could continue running and then they took off.

Stroganoff led the pack and when he reached the end, he pulled a Forest Gump and kept running. As far as I know, he is still running. Madoff was the only one close enough to see him from the finish while Billy Madison and I kept a steady fellowship pace-he’s fun to run with because once you start talking, eventually some situation comes up where he can quote a movie, I get to try to guess it, and this leads to more distractions and before you know it, we have just gone another half mile. JK2 kept a solid pace in preparation for his upcoming half marathon. Gastone finished strong despite losing gallons of blood along the way. My advice, eat something with ketchup today. It’s red like blood and should help replace what you lost on the road today. And remember, I am a doctor. We know things.

Once we finished the running and recovered from seeing all that blood, we did 5 burpees because Gastone heard a train-I suppose it was real, but could have been a couple cats getting busy with some early morning action, who knows? We hung out for a little while then had a quick prayer and went our separate ways.

Although I did not Q this workout or lead the pack in any way at all, I was there and thought I should report things exactly as they happened, just for the record. And by the way, if someone sees Stroganoff this week, tell him he owes us 5 burpees.

What day is it?

When I volunteered to take the Q from Gastone earlier in the week (would have been his 3rd Q in a row for him and honestly, I didn’t want to receive a beatdown from a grumpy Gastone-happy Gastone is tough enough-I can’t imagine a grumpy one after 3 days of Q in a row…), I did not think about what my work week would be like. I guess we all have rough weeks and that is nothing special-we just get thru them and learn from them how to cope and appreciate the better times. It was a rough week and Thursday night I sat in my comfy chair with my dog Seymour, put on my ascott and bathrobe with matching slippers, lit my pipe, poured myself a scotch and worked on my weinke. I googled the date and looked for big events that occurred on this date in history-unfortunately I put the wrong date in-I put 1/28/17. Many important events occurred on this date, however the one that got my attention was the explosion of the Challenger 10 which killed all 7 passengers on 1/28/17 in 1986. I built my weinke around this, not realizing until I was finished that this was the wrong date. Once I realized I had the wrong date, I decided go with it anyway and make it work-no one will even notice what day it is, right? Who really listens to me anyway? As the Q, I am just some background noise like the guy named Steven in the back row snoring during some discussion about Henry VIII in 8th grade history class, right? Not today-as I broke into the game plan while we moseyed during the first 30 seconds, the cat was out of the bag and my mistake was pointed out by some knucklehead in the back of the mosey-my response-Don’t confuse me with the facts, keep moving and don’t interrupt me. I’m on a roll (I think)…..that lasted about 5 seconds so I then came clean and explained my mistake. Thankfully there was no mutiny and we kept going. Here is what I remember:

WU: 7 IC (7 crew members on Challenger 10) SSH, Squats, Merkins, then 7 burpees OYO

Pledge

Mosey toward the parking deck with above quick discussion of the game plan then an explanation of why we were discussing tomorrow’s events today. We were going to do a (sort of) circle workout to represent the O ring that was responsible for the explosion. This would start with Hip Slappers on the wall X 10 then mosey to the parking deck. At the parking deck we were given instructions for the exercises-flutter kicks OYO to exhaustion then up the deck to the top for Merkins to exhaustion. In retrospect I wish we had done these IC as I think I seem to push myself more when we are counting-note to self for future. Once sufficient fatigue was achieved, mosey back to start past the art thing completing our circle.

At the start line (between cycles) I tried to give other important events that occurred either on 1/27 or 1/28 in the past and discuss a little about the Challenger 10 or present a quick excerpt from the Freedom from Fear book we are reviewing at the Crusade Ao on Tuesdays. Some of the events in history included Liberation of the remaining inmates of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945, founding of the Univ of GA in 1785 (first public university in the US-I have been told if you drive thru Athens, GA with your window down they will try to slide a diploma in your car), and Andre the Giant died in 1993 from a heart attack.

We did this cycle 4 times-there were a few minor modifications along the way, but this was basically it. We did do 31 hip slappers during round 3 (I think)-thanks Squirt, you counting right next to me was the only reason I got to 31-tomorrow is the 31st anniversary of the Challenger explosion. My shoulders are still feeling that.

Thanks to the pax for putting up with my history lesson, even if it was the wrong date.

We finished with the COT, prayers, and named our FNG Geddy Lee.

The part from the book Freedom from Fear was basically encouragement to live each day to the fullest-something I needed to not only read today, but put into practice-think I probably failed at this today if I am honest with myself. I was grumpy at work and really was not focusing on the important things-“I want to seize every day that is given to me. I believe each day is a gift from “The Sweet Hereafter” was part of the excerpt I read-too bad I didn’t listen to myself. Tomorrow will be better.

By the way, Rush still sucks.

Whoopee

Rocky

Rocky 3 and 4 were on earlier this week, and if those movies don’t get you in the mood to exercise, you might want to double check down below and make sure you’ve got a pair-just saying. Good movies, not for everyone, but I think they do the job when you need some motivation. I was able to get the weinke done quickly, but overextended myself and had to modify this morning. We still made it thru and got a sufficient beatdown, however I was reminded about the importance of daily merkins-I felt better a few months ago when we had the merkin monthly challenge so guess I need to get back to doing those on a daily basis-really makes a difference.

Here is what I remember:

WU: IC X 10-ish: SSH, Merkins, Squats then JUMP ROPE X 20-ish, mosey to the flag, pledge, Rocky Balboa’s on the curb X 20, 10 Burpees OYO, then mosey to the steps at FPC.

Quick Explanation of overall plan related to Rocky-20 Merkins at bottom of stairs, run up stairs with arms up in victory position like Rocky. 20 Hip Slappers at top then down the steps. Keep walking steps until 6 finished then rinse and repeat.

Things got a little hazy for me at that point. I reminded the Pax at the end of Rocky 3 that Rocky had to pay back a favor to Apollo Creed if he won the fight against Clubber Lang. Some of the pax thought the favor was something about a fight. I quickly corrected them and explained this “favor” was actually a burpee challenge and Rocky/Apollo had a burpee battle so we would do something like that. My original plan was 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 in 1 minute intervals, then back down. My burpee limit was reached by the time we hit 10 so it was cut short. My apologies today, but you can bet this will not happen again. We moseyed to the grassy field for the next exercise. We lined up on 1 end of the field, lunged across then moseyed back to start. We then sprinted across the field (remember the beach scene with Rocky and Apollo?) and moseyed back. Think we did this twice??

We then moseyed back to the stairs and this is where things really went dark for me. I know we did the merkins/hip slapper routine on the stairs again, various other exercises named by me but led by a few of the pax, but all I remember is some squats by DaVinci. Thankfully he stopped at 60. We cooled down with some high knees, butt kickers, karaoke through the parking lot, moseyed back to start with a little wall sit, then finished with dying Bandits, I mean cockroaches as the bells of freedom rang.

Somewhere along the way I tried to remind everyone of why we are out here by briefly talking about part of the book Freedom from Fear that we are discussing at the Tuesday, 6am Ao at Harris Teeter. We are out here to help each other-sure we want to get in better shape, but I promise you I can do that at a different time of day on my own, at least for a little while. I am out here for the guys sweating next to me, for the guys who were starting the marathon or half marathon this morning as the freedom bells were ringing, for the guy pedaling the bike with one pedal as he cheered on his brothers who were busting their butts to push themselves past the point of exhaustion. Life is tough-we all know that. Having someone to shield lock with makes it a lot more bearable and gives me something to look forward to each day, whether it is weekday or weekend. Later in the day I was at my 2.0’s church basketball game and at halftime they do a quick message-today was about what was important about getting out there and playing basketball. The most important thing is to love God and love each other. Be there for the person next to you and pick them up when they are down, but also love yourself and allow yourself to make mistakes without beating yourself up-great message for these 10 year old kids (and their parents). In a nutshell, he was talking about a version of the shield lock. We just take it to a different level with F3, in my opinion, because of the amount of time we spend with each other and the quantity of sweat we collectively spill each week in the gloom.

EVERY TIME I come out here I am reminded about the privilege it is to be out here with all of you. Sure, I feel the aftershocks later in the day when I am walking up the stairs or getting off the can, but that always puts a smile on my face. Also, I get a little extra special burst of joy when my wife looks at me and asks if I am going out to exercise in the rain. Life is never as long as we want it to be-make sure you find a way to spend your time wisely. My time with F3 has never been a disappointment. Thanks for reminding me of that every day.

Congrats to the Charleston Runners (and biker). I know I enjoyed the pictures and videos. That was a great accomplishment for all of you.

Whoopee

It’s raining, men

It was cold and rainy and the last thing my M said before I walked out the door was something that ended with “stupid” so I just smiled and kept on going. I arrived to find several others already there including an FNG???!!! A rainy, cold, holiday and he had no more sense than to get out in the rain in the gloom. Our kind of guy-he heard about us/met us at Crowder’s Ridge at our CSAUP a few months ago. Glad to have you TK, hope to see you out here again, hopefully with better weather.

Disclaimer, WU: 5-10 IC SSH, Merkins, Squats

Pledge, still have the Ghost Flag.

Long mosey to Hawks Nest School with quick talk about how improving my running makes the rest of F3 less painful then we got to it. Partner up and P1 does exercise while P2 ran the parking lot trying to Chinook for as much as possible. Flapjack then move on to next exercise. The exercises were Merkins for 1 min, SSH for 2 min, and Squats for 3 min. Next was “30 Seconds of Uncle” which was a new exercise. P1 and P2 do 30 seconds of called exercise AMRAP but keep good form then swap. The plan was 3 different rounds of this but ran out of time so we just did 1 round of Hip Slappers and Burpees (30 seconds of each). Did not have much time so did a Hodor partner carry across the lot, mosey back, then flapjack with partner. This was so much fun, we changed partners and did it again. We didn’t have enough time for Jack Webb but we did it anyway then moseyed back to start where we found Spiderman coming back from a run. Apparently my WU routine was not long enough and he arrived just after we left. Spiderman gets a big ATTABOY for sticking around and getting in a solo workout-not sure I would have done that, especially in the cold rain.

We named our FNG (TK). Hint, don’t make a face like that when we suggest your name or it will stick. We did our quick announcements and prayer then 9 headed for coffeerama.

As usual, I was really glad I got out of bed and put in the work this am. I’ll say it again, the more I run the less painful the rest of the workout seems to be. Coffeerama also seems to be better on these holiday days-got to hear a lot of stupid crook stories which seemed to be the theme of the day. Good getting to know the pax on days like these.

Reminder: (after) Christmas Party at my house this weekend. Details in weekly newsletter.

1299 Audubon Drive (1st house on left in neighborhood next to new YMCA site (same side of road as YMCA), Saturday, Jan 7 at 7pm until whenever, $10 per person, will have everything here-leave kids at home and bring M. Everyone welcome (even if have not posted in long time). I am ordering food this week so let me know if planning to attend.

Final Countdown

It was about 30 degrees out and the last day of the year-was not sure how many would post for this workout and thankfully the pax did not disappoint. I arrived to find a crowd already assembled including a few Kotters (welcome back Jobu, T Square, and Rudolph) and at least 1 who came early for EC (attaboy DaVinci). Despite my best attempts at taunting on Twitter, however, the Ghost Flag was not threatened and remains in GasHouse. Apparently the ShackyShackyBoomBoom and Homer mooning the camera were not enough.

After a brief disclaimer and explanation that I would be trying to briefly discuss part of the book Freedom From Fear, we started. This is the book we are starting this week at our Tuesday 6am 3rd F AO at the new Harris Teeter (newest GasHouse AO)-props to Stroganoff on introducing this book to us.

Here is what we did…
WU: 10 IC SSH, Squats, Merkins, LBCs then 10 Burpees OYO.
Mosey to the Flag for STANDING Pledge (again, up yours Kaepernick)

The THANG: theme: COUNTDOWN (new year’s eve is tonight for those of you living under a rock)
Long mosey to the church steps (chasing Gomer who I think had 5 minutes of sleep) for quick background of above book-basically main character was Sad Clown who met guy named Len who ultimately became his life coach. The plan was to provide Len-isms throughout the workout to think about-see below for the ones we were introduced to.
Partner up (not needed, Q fail) 25 Merkins at bottom, run up steps, 20 hip slappers, run down steps, 15 merkins then run up steps, 10 hip slappers then down steps, 5 merkins. Mumble chatter was starting up at this point.
Hop up all steps with feet together then mosey to school track for some Bojangles with blueberries. 10 burpees then run, walk, mosey, or crawl half a lap and do 9 burpees then run half a lap and do 8 burpees…down to 1 burpee (total of 55 burpees!!!!) This looked bad on paper and was worse in action. Originally we were going down 1 burpee per lap but thankfully I came to my senses.
Mosey to field at church with partner (still not needed, Q fail again) for hip slapper countdown but running out of time so Omaha’d to save time. Start on 1st base side with 10 hip slappers on fence, run across field to parking lot and back then 5 hip slappers then across field and back with plank in hip slapper position (nice work Gomer).
Mosey to church steps again with partner-NOW YOU NEED YOUR PARTNER-
Q had trouble with the exercises and keeping them straight-just a ploy to keep all of you focused, had it all together the whole time…..Partner 1 up and down steps for 1, 2, and 3 minutes while Partner 2 did called exercise (in alphabetical order!!!) for 1, 2, and 3 minutes. Exercises were Merkins (1 min), SSH (2 min), and Squats (3 min). Flapjack after each set of exercises to alternate btwn stairs and exercises. I got things fired up with some “Final Countdown” music. We hustled back to partners and did a quick Hodor partner carry up the stairs then quick moseyed back to start as the bells of freedom were ringing.

GREAT WORK BY ALL-lot of running today and lot of hip slappers/stairs. I’ll be sore tomorrow for sure.

Here are the Len-isms we talked about:
We become what we think about.
First we form habits, then they form us.
Good habits are hard to form and easy to live with. Bad habits are easy to form and hard to live with. If we don’t consciously form good habits, we will unconsciously form bad ones.
Challenges don’t make the man, they reveal him to himself.
Freedom from fear is more important than freedom from want.

COT, namorama (thanks Roscoe), and quick prayer.
Great seeing the new “old guys” out here today. Life gets busy and things get in the way, however, remember you need F3 as much as it needs you. You are no good to anyone in your family or at work if you aren’t healthy and able to take care of yourself. Hope to see all of you early and often in the gloom in 2017.

23 degrees and summer practice

This week I heard the song We Will Rock you and it reminded me of high school football and those summer practices that brought me so much pain and pleasure. This song provided the necessary push for me to get my weinke together before this morning. Summer football practice was a great time for me. At least in my mind, I was a pretty big deal at my high school when it came to football. Just don’t ask my M-she was not there and my memory is a whole lot better than the actual truth so if you ask me sometime, I won’t confuse you with the facts. F3 has been the closest thing to summer football practice for me since high school. For the first few months of F3 it is how I explained what F3 was for me when talking about F3 at work. Most of my co-workers would just nod and smile then change the subject. Clearly there is something wrong with them….Here is what we did:

WU: 10 IC SSH, Squats, LBCs, Mountain Climbers, Flutter Kicks, Merkins, (I think) 10 Burpees OYO

Mosey to flag for Pledge

The Thang:

Mosey to steps near football field and partner up while I explained the overall plan, something to resemble football. Started off with ab work (engage the core early). Partner 1 did called exercise while Partner 2 ran up steps in high knee fashion then came down and swapped with P1. The exercises were Flutter Kicks X 2 rounds each, Dying Cockroaches X 2 rounds each, then Hip Slappers X 3 rounds each. If you do enough hip slappers it DOES engage the core, contrary to someone’s mumble chatter. Before moving on to the next part I read an email blast about Inspiration from the Eagle’s Nest-this is something a few of us get from Stroganoff that is usually short and motivational and I thought this was particularly appropriate since we all felt inspired to get out of the fartsack knowing it would be 21 degrees outside, KUDO’s to our FNG to brave the cold.

Next we moseyed to the field for some grass drills (NO, NOT GRASS PICKERS. THOSE ARE NOT EXERCISES) followed by a 120 yard spring (back of goal line to other back of goal line). I claimed it was a 100 yard sprint but it became a sort of mosey and Roscoe pulled out the measuring tape and told me it was really 120 yards. I think somewhere along here clothes started flying off of Madoff and Oompa Loompa. That running 100 yards thing is a lot harder than I remember. Most of us took a turn at calling the grass drills and Short Sale gave us a little extra punishment with some delay before getting back up. He called it something like a plyometric pushup-I thought that was something I tried to get off my girlfriend in high school??). We were not even half way thru at this point but I was pretty spent. We counted off to catch our breath then moved on to O and D.

The offensive work involved 2 QBs and 2 receivers-throw the ball and if caught we moved the line down the field. If ball is dropped, 5 burpees for each ball that hits the ground. I’ll keep it short-we did a lot of burpees, it was ugly, and we had to turn around at the 50 yard line.

The defensive work was next. We started at the back of the goal line, bear crawled about 20 yards, sprinted another 20 yards, then backwards ran the rest of the field. There was some mumble about this being a restricted type of running in GasHouse but I ignored it and we moved on. Anthrax was not present and I kept Roscoe in my sites the whole time. No pax were dogpiled during this exercise. We did this a couple times then lunged instead of bear crawled a time or 2.

Next, we moved back to the steps and did a few more rounds of partner work with flutter kicks, dying cockroaches, and hip slappers. We had about 15 minutes so I offered 2 undisclosed options to the FNG and he quickly chose option B which was a moderate mosey across to the church for a wall of plank while each pax in turn carried the football up the steps and back to next pax. Option A would have involved a bunch of burpees and partner work so I will have to save that for another time. We lunged from the steps to the road then moseyed back to start for some Mary. The pax were slow to move to the 2nd round so I Oklahoma’d in some burpees for fun. A few minutes later the bells of freedom rang and we called it.

As promised, I offered 10 burpees for our single FNG-I was relieved there were not more. Roscoe was my wildcard and could have shown with anywhere from 1 to 10 FNGs this morning. The cold weather was a blessing. Thanks Stroganoff for sharing the Burpees.

We made our announcements, named our FNG-Keith “Stone Cold” Trietley, one of Charlotte’s finest who was injured while serving and protecting almost 6 years ago. The guy has been through more physical trauma during an 8 month period of recovery than any one person deserves. Great day to be out there with some great guys. We finished with a quick COT then met up with Bandit at Coffeerama after he finished at the Fighting Yank.

(after) Christmas Party will be Saturday, January 7 at my house-put it on the calendar and bring your M but leave kids at home. Put it on the calendar.

6 non hunters and recycled wisdom

Got the invite to Q at Folsom from Huckleberry last week, and I knew there was only one answer to that question. The forecast was rain, but that did not stop 6 NONHUNTERS from breaking out of the fartsack. There was some chatter about the usual suspects possibly posting more often after hunting season but showing the same pictures and no meat to show their hunting efforts. Keep EHing them and get them out here.

WU: 10 IC:SSH, Squats, Merkins, Imp Walkers then 10 burpees OYO.

The Thang:

Mosey to the turd shack (for some of my favorites) for some work under the shelter of the turd shack. Hip Slappers IC X 10 then 15 then 10 with short mosey across the parking lot btwn rounds. Stay under cover and divide into 3 groups of 2 with partner 1 doing flutter kicks while partner 2 lunge walks across the parking lot then mosey back. Flapjack, rinse and repeat for 2 sets each. Think we did some more Burpees here, not sure.

Outside in the rain for a version of Red Barchetta (still hate the group and the song in case anyone wondering). 100 yard dash, 100 SSH, mosey back to start. 75ish yard dash, 75 mountain climbers, mosey back to start. 50 yard dash with 50 squats, mosey back to start. 25 yard dash, 25 merkins, mosey back to start. 10 yard dash, 10 burpees, mosey back. Between sets we discussed recent info shared by Dredd at CSAUP (Fatigue makes cowards of us all, It all starts with love, and Ask, Listen, Recall). This recycled wisdom is applicable even at 530am in the rain.

We moseyed under the shelter to picnic tables and did some dips then closed things out with COT out of the rain before moseying back to start for pledge in the rain (thanks Gomer).

Great group of guys here in Folsom. Huckleberry doing great job leading from the front, Gomer with the endless energy, Snowman/Medicine Woman/Shingle providing the horsepower to push that rock. Keep it up guys.

(after) Christmas Party

OK, here is the pre blast for our first (of hopefully many) GasHouse sort-of Christmas Parties. It will be at my house this year, but will be after Christmas so it won’t be too stressful or interfere with your holiday plans. I want to make it easy so I think we will have it catered, but nothing too fancy. And by easy, I mean I don’t want my M to have to work too much so maybe she won’t be too tired afterwards and will feel like sharing a little holiday cheer with me when this is all over, if you know what I mean. I have not decided what the menu will be, but it will likely involve some meat, cause we are guys, and we like to eat meat. If there is anything green, you don’t have to eat it. If you do, just make sure it’s not a left-over Christmas decoration first.

The party will be on Saturday, January 7 and will start at 630pm. It will likely be ~$10 per couple. Don’t feel like you need to bring anything, but if you want to bring something special to drink that would be fine. I will have water, soft drinks, and some beer. This will be for PAX and your M (no shorties). My address is 1299 Audubon Drive (right near where the new YMCA is being built). I’ll get some solid details out once we get a little closer to the date, and will need a rough head count to plan for food and beverages. Get a sitter for your shorties now so you can make it. I am open to ideas if you have suggestions.

Cardio and hills

I had good intentions for a solid and respectable warmup, but as it got underway I quickly became bored and shortened the reps. I think I just need to be moving to feel like I am getting my money’s worth, maybe that’s it? Who knows? This is what I remember…Maybe it’s undiagnosed ADD? Maybe it’s short term memory loss? Maybe it’s short term memory loss? Maybe…

WU: SSH X 10, Squats X 10, LBCs X 20, Mtn Climbers X 5, Flutter kicks X 10, Imperial Walkers X 5, Merkins X 2 then get your butt up and mosey. Did a slow mosey around in a square with high knees, butt kickers, slide this way, slide that way then burpees X 10 OYO.

The Thang:

Mosey to the lower circle formally known as the lower case i (remember from Derecho???) for Burp and Merk (1 burpee with 1 Merkin on the burpee, 2nd burpee with 2 merkins on the burpee, escalator up to 8th burpee with 8 merkins). This was 1 for each of the pax present. And then the running began….we moseyed up the hill for modified 11’s. Mosey up the hill for 10 reps of flutter kicks, back down for 1 LBC (sorry Sargento, I don’t consider Don Quixote or grass pickers to be an exercise). We adjusted reps by 2 each trip (longer run than I had planned). Lot of encouraging each other-great teamwork. Mayor, after running with you at the CSAUP, I wanted to help you with your goal to get better with the cardio-ask and you shall receive. This was tough for me and though I don’t consider myself a “runner” I was adequately prepared for BRR not too long ago. Hills are some of the toughest things for me to do on my own and I have learned from others it is best to do in groups to stay motivated. I spent the majority of time chasing 4-5 others up that #$%@!!! hill. I wanted to cut it short but didn’t want to let the others down just a little bit more so we stuck it out and finished what we started.

Somewhere along the way around the 3rd trip up we heard the wind howl? a motorcycle go by? or was it a train??? 10 Burpees OYO-nice work pointing out the train passing by whoever that was (?Sargento?). Next we got a quick count off to recover then moseyed up to the wall by the weight room but had to stop and recover our legs from the mosey with 50 squats-was really hoping for some mumble chatter but all I heard was crickets and a few grunts….maybe 75 next time….

We made it to the wall for some hip slappers with 3 sets of 10 then headed back for the pledge and some time with Mary-everyone got a chance to lead with 10 reps of something-don’t remember all of them but I know there were Sandy V, dying cockroach, WW2 setups, Freddie Mercury, LBC, flutter kicks, Mtn Climbers-missing 1 of them.

Was really happy to be there this am. Like we talked about at the CSAUP this weekend, I am not sure what I would be doing without F3, but I know a lot of things would be different. I suspect my Sandy V would be at least size adult XXL instead of whatever smaller size it happens to be today (admittedly it does vary but gets smaller after I post for a workout).

Namorama, Prayers (Feelgood, we are here for you), and COT-Great work guys-thanks for coming out and pushing the rock.

Tiny Tank volunteered to Q next week so bring your A game next week.

Hodor and Jack

In an effort to generate some more interest at TheStorm AO, I pre-blasted that I had something special today. It was all a ploy to see who might show-nothing special, just a good old-fashioned beatdown planned. The weather has been just right and I think I have finally recovered from the extra hour of sleep from Daylight Savings so I was looking forward to getting out there on a day I don’t usually make it.

At 530A we started with a mosey to the baseball field to load some cinder blocks for the upcoming CSAUP. They were put into Freight’s sled so he could deliver to the CSAUP on Friday. He was probably a little late to work so I’m going to count him as being “sort-of” present for today’s workout-thanks Freight. Can’t wait for Friday so we can get a good “Midorymama heat” experience Downtown when you Q. Dolph mentioned he was going to wear something special…..let’s see if he delivers. #gottaleaveearlyifhedoes

After the mosey and quick block work (apologies to BA-should have done something besides carry them to the truck), we did a quick disclaimer then finished the WU with 10 IC SSH, Squats, Mtn Climbers, Flutter Kicks (?20-25ish), Imperial Walkers, then Merkins. We finished the WU with 5 burpees OYO then did a short mosey with buttkickers, high knees, slide this way, slide that way, karaoke, then mosey to the wall outside the weight room. No keys to the weight room so had to sweat it out in the cooler weather. Somebody send BA some flowers and a box of candy so he makes sure not to miss a winter workout once it is cold-the weight room sure looked comfy today.

My pre blast showed a pic from Game of Thrones-my latest attempt at reading a book series-HOLY NUTS it is long-think I am on page 2,300-something and have a long way to go. There is a guy named Hodor that is somewhat of a mental midget and carries around a crippled character. This was my motivation for the workout. We did a Hodor Hip Slapping Escalator Down exercise. Partner up, 10 Hip Slappers, Hodor Carry partner about 40 yards (second island in parking lot) then both mosey back. Hodor Carry is either piggy back or fireman carry. I was lucky enough to have Mayor on my back and got to hear about the games he and Dolph have played in the past….#comeinTokyo. I made that trip as fast as I could-was wondering if I was going to need some vaseline before it was all over. Good thing it was cold out…..We did 4 trips I think (2 each) with Hip Slappers X 10, 8, 6, then 10. For the record, we voted on the # reps for last one (it is election day, isn’t it??) but only Dolph (maybe Huckleberry also???) spoke up so we did what he said….

Next we moseyed around the school to the back lot (Dolph demonstrated some fine hurdling skills) and considered climbing the wooden platform that could have been a lot of fun and dangerous. Brought back memories of “hey y’all watch this. Figured we didn’t want to get booted from this AO or end up in the ER just yet so we passed on that. Once at the back, we met Jack Webb-no one knew who Jack Webb was so we did a full set of 10 Jack Webbs. I offered a 2 point discount but was not gonna happen today. Look it up, may come in handy in the future. After the Jack Webbs, we partnered up again (different partners) and did 2 minutes of AMRAP for 3 exercises (with a short break in middle cause the Q was in pain) separated by short mosey, jump up on the loading dock, then Hodor carry partner down the ramp. We did Merkins, SSH, then Flutter kicks. Don’t think I really liked 2 minutes of SSH so that will definitely be in the future again.

We moseyed back to the front with a short people’s chair on the way, then did some wall work. I again put it to a vote: donkey kicks or hip slappers…..and the winner was….both. Thanks guys for not wussing out. Suspect the guys at Midorymama would have just done 1 or the other, certainly not both. We finished with the wall work then moseyed to the flag for Mary (5 reps of something by all present-can’t remember all of them but I know someone, maybe Mayor, did V ups and we finished with Huckleberry’s Burpees).

We finished with the Pledge, announcements, namorama, and a COT/prayer. Glad to report that Floppy Disk’s wife did well this past week and hopeful for those on IR to return safely soon.

If posting this week and able, please bring Chicken Noodle soup, gatorade,…liquid nutrition stuff when you post for my 2.0’s Girl Scout Project for Silver Award.

Great work today guys. Again, don’t forget about Freight posting Friday AM and bringing the Midorymama heat….

Whoopee
