P. E. Teacher

A few late arrivals so the group did squats until everyone showed up.  Somebody that we suspected was Tesla came in on two wheels and hit the big pothole that we always stumble through when we run.  Turned out to be someone else.

Mosey to the “recess area” where the basketball goals are for the warm up.  SSH, Merkins, LBC’s, Imperial Walkers

Some mumblechatter about this being P.E.

Next, line up on one side and high knees down and butt kickers back.

Kareoke right, kareoke left.  Some claim this is the same thing if you turn around in the middle. #showtoknow

Lungewalk down, burpee broad jump back  (some mumblechatter about not liking the P.E. Teacher)

lungewalk down, bearcrawl back

Mosey to Davis Park for some hill sprints

10 merkins at the bottom, sprint to the top of the hill, slow mosey back

15 merkins at the bottom, sprint to the top of the hill, slow mosey back

20 merkins at the bottom, sprint to the top of the hill, slow mosey back

5 burpees at the bottom, NUR to the top of the hill

10 big boi’s at the bottom, NUR up the hill

10 big boi’s at the top, 20  American Hammers, mosey down

10 big boi’s, 20 Hammers, 30 LBC’s mosey up

10 big boi’s, 20 Hammers, 30 LBC’s, 40 Flutters

Several times cars came through and interrupted our street takeover.  Good job by the PAX calling it out so we could get out of the road.  Purple Haze (safety Q) would have been proud!

Partner up for a quick DORA..

50 burpees, 100 merkins, 150 squats

Although at least one team of bat flippers finished this, it was time to mosey back to start so the Q called End-ex.

Mosey back for the Pledge and that was time.

It was a good morning to be outside and start the day off right.  Thanks for showing up in the Gloom!

Welcome an FNG to the PUB!

It was a great morning for a run and Purple Haze brought an FNG out to a running AO!  The young man is a former collegiate soccer player and younger than most PAX so he should be running laps around most of us in no time.  Welcome Roofie!

The Pub had ten runners and with the FNG the Q modifed the route for safety and simplicity.  Run out to Robinwood towards the greenway and turn around for 5 miles.  Waterboy and I traded bad dirty jokes for the first half.  It is hard to execute the punch line while gasping for air.

World’s Fastest Dora at Mount Hollywood

Freon needs Q’s at Mt. Hollywood so YHC decided to drive the extra five minutes and post in my old stomping grounds.  YHC had no Weinke planned by design because I was anticipating modifying ideas depending on who showed up.  To my surprise, we had  8 PAX as we started the warmup and then three late arrivals showed up to give us eleven.

Breaker Breaker brought along some coupons to modify his workout due to a recent injury.  I stop this backblast to share an important point!

IF YOU ARE HURT, YOU CAN DO SOMETHING.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAY HOME.  YOU CAN SHOW UP IN THE GLOOM, BE WELCOMED BY YOUR BROTHERS, AND ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING.  DO WHAT YOU CAN DO AND DON’T WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN’T.  TOO MANY MEN GET SOME SOME SORT OF INJURY AND INSTANTLY REVERT TO SAD CLOWNS IN THE FARTSACK INSTEAD OF PUSHING THROUGH.  WE ALL ARE DEALING WITH SOMETHING.

Thank you Breaker Breaker for that example.  Now back to our regularly scheduled backblast.

The PAX took a lap and ended up at the front of the school for a modified Route 66.

YHC selected burpees, CPAP selected squats, Radar selected merkins, Bubba Sparxx selected Big boi’s, and Pillager selected lunges.  The first five rounds were all together and it went like this.

One burpee, one squat, one merkin, one big boi, one lunge each leg, take a lap.  (the laps were oyo in terms of modifying.  you could run around the entire lot of just some of it).

Two burpees, two squats, two merkins, two big boi’s, two lunges each leg, take a lap.

Three burpees………….lap

four burpees……….lap

Go get Breaker and steal his coupons so he would be with us during our exercises.  Someone had put Breaker in a corner, and nobody puts Breaker in a corner.

five burpees……lap

6,7,8,9,10,11  ENDEX

Some rock pushing was going on as several PAX were onto 12 burpees, trying to complete ROUTE 79.

Next, we partnered up for the world’s fastest DORA.

25 merkins, 50 squats, 75 LBC’s  the other partner runs across the front of the school to a sign and back.  About 40 yards total.

Then plank it up for a moment of gratitude where PAX shared what they were thankful for.  Gratitude helps people lower their stress, sleep better, and focus on what they have versus what they don’t have.
The Pledge of Allegiance and then it was time.

MOLESKIN:

There were several PAX YHC had seen in backblasts but not met in person yet so it was great to see new faces and meet new guys.  Everyone pushed the rock today.  Bubba Sparxx made the distinction that F3 isn’t “men only” but “open to all men”.   We are all going through life and we need one another to help provide support.  YHC has been thinking of a new position or team of PAX that would serve as a “congregational care” committee.  PAX who are dealing with serious things and need support could contact this team and have their needs met with extra attention.  Since such a committee doesn’t exist yet, you can contact YHC for anything heavy.  Life happens to all of us.  Let’s be intentional about being there for one another.  AYE!

Downtown Beatdown

Whoopee posted that EC was at 0500 so we got a little running and merkins and lbc’s around the town square and the parking deck roof.  A little EC never hurt anyone!

We had a nice crew roll in for the start time with a couple tardies.  We began with the disclaimer and pledge before a brief warmup consisting of 10 merkins, Imperial walkers, SSH, and squats before moseying to the wall.  We completed 50 squats oyo and then wall sits with air presses and marching. We moseyed to the top of the deck.

The PAX counted off in one’s and two’s and locked arms for some formation lunge walk.  Pretty bad q fail but line 1 had it together.

The THANG:

At the top of the deck, do the following:

25 burpees, lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

50 merkins, lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

75 shoulder taps lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

100 CDD’s lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

75 shoulder taps ,lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

50 merkins, lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

25 burpees, lunge walk to the other side of the deck, mosey back

For those that finished first, take the stairs to the bottom of the deck and run up the ramps to the top again.  Repeato for the six.

This took most of our time so rounded up the PAX and moseyed back to start where the clock rang 0615 and we ended the workout.

Some quick reflection on  F3 and what it means…the brotherhood, the mental and physical acceleration, the energy to go and serve, the hardest part of your day is already over…

What a blessing!

Reverse Kotter Route

The Pub was open with nice weather and a bunch of PAX ready to push rocks at either the PUB or the Diablo Sammich.  It is nice to see the numbers increasing in January.  Kudo’s to our First F Q Flintstone for getting the Pushing Rocks Challenge off to such a great start.

The five mile pub route was the Defib Kotter route in reverse.  Run up Robinwood, right on Robinwood, Right on Hudson, Left on Windyrush, Right on Riding Trail, right on Willow Creek, Left on White Willow and right on Armstrong Park Road and back to the start.  It was a fast pace but enjoyable because it broke up into small groups of runners.  The fellowship was great and not only did YHC run fast, but also almost secured some employment while on the run.

Saturday 50 miler for charity starting at Old School at 0530.

Cover and Move

We had twelve for the Coconut Horse. The ruckers outnumbered the runners today, but if you count the two laps that Maybelline and Flintstone did it sort of evens out.

It is nice to see bigger crowds continuing and more at Q Source as well. This is how you accelerate. Show up!

Strogi needed to smartsack the 1st F this am so hence the title of the backblast.

great work!

praise for turtleman.

Pushing Rocks at the Coconut Horse

Lots of activity this morning at the Coconut Horse. There were ruckers, runners, and cars all over the parking lot. EC was going on too. Some PAX left early but they returned in time for credit. At 0530 the disclaimer was given and at 0531 Short Sale rolled in hot and declared that he identified as a Rucker today so the runners all took off.  Approximately 0715, all were back at the start for the COT.

At Q Source, we nearly had a record crowd and covered the 8 block and our One Word(s).
It was a great start to 2023 and most guys got two points for the Pushing Rocks challenge.  Off to a great start on what will be a great year for the Gashouse!

announcements:  Pushing Rocks challenge

24 hour run for charity in Dallas January 14

prayer requests:  Flintstone’s Mom, Feta’s knee and MRI results

It was a great showing this morning and great to see so many at Q source pushing rocks. Let’s keep it going and have a great 2023 in the Gashouse.

A Q unlike any other

Gavel was sick so somebody had to step in the gap.

We warmed up. We moseyed to the deepest, darkest part of the Martha’s House Forest for some burpees and then four corners in the dark. Stroganoff and Maybelline stepped up for some set pieces in the parking lot that got the PAX all swole and sweaty. It was great.

January 1st New Years Day Q-Source Pre-Blast

Okay F3 Gastonia,

This year New Years Day falls on a Sunday.  There was talk of a possible convergence but with church and Sunday obligations it may be difficult for some to travel too far from home.  Instead, we will be doing a personal development exercise.

The 1FQ’s (Flintstone for those that don’t know) “Push the Rock” challengei is a perfect way to start off the first day of the year with a Sunday post at Member’s Only, Crossroads, or the Coconut Horse and stay for Q-Source and start your year off on the right path with two points towards the challenge.

What is on tap for Q-Source you ask?  We will be doing the 8-Block.  Those that have followed CSPAN and the weekly roundtable call (the first F3 podcast), may be familiar with it.  The 8-block is a worthwhile personal exercise to set your goals and priorities for the year.  More information is linked to this podcast….

https://f3nation.com/stuff-worth-trying-podcast-episode-11-the-8-block/

You will also need your “one Word”.   What is a one word challenge? Essentially, a one word challenge involves choosing a specific word to guide you throughout the year as you make decisions, pursue goals, and try to become the human being you want to be. It’s part compass, part motivator, and part mirror.

That is it.  Show up on New Years Day at one of the three Sunday AO’s.  Get a run, ruck, or other exercises of your choice.  Bring a sheet of paper and a pen to Q Source in case the Q doesn’t have one.  We will all complete the exercise and then share with your peers and go over it again and again all year.

You will be amazed how some of your blind spots disappear and your priorities will be clearer.

Purple Haze is the Q-Source Q for 2022.  He will be leading the way at Crossroads.  YHC will have the Q at the Coconut Horse, and Tiger will be leading Member’s Only.

If you have questions feel free to contact me.

F3 The Storm 12-13-22

As usual, it was a great day to be in the Gloom.  There was some EC taking place which is always good to see.  There may have been one PAX who forgot to set his alarm?

We kicked off with 10 PAX at 0530 with Buckeye running off as soon as the workout began.  Should he get credit?  The PAX overwhelmingly voted no!

The warm up consisted of a few exercises and then we moseyed to the lower traffic island and got after it with some burp and merk, some one leg glute bridge, and Radar called a reverse pickle pounder.  Lots of mumble chatter.  Take a lap around the side of the school and return.  Lock arms in a line formation and do lunges back to the school.  Mosey to the front of the school for the Colonel Trautman.  I double checked this in the Exicon and it must have changed over the years but here is my OG interpretation.

Do 22 merkins at lightpole one and run to the second lightpole and do 21 and go back and forth to one merkin.  Posi-traction and Seuss were flipping bats here but everyone worked it out.  Radar had great form and did every rep per the standard.

We then did some wall sits with air presses, marches, and balls to the wall, followed by step ups and then dips.  We finished with a brief MARY of 1 leg glute bridges and another exercise I can’t recall.

Announcements:  Supposedly there will be a beer mile on New Years Eve.  That will be a merlot fest for sure.

Read Flintstone’s Pre-blast for the Rock Pushing Challenge.  BOLO for the sign up form.

Prayer Requests:  Turtleman, Huckleberry, Radar’s Sister, Tiger and family, Huffstetler Family,  Teachers and students

YHC wants to thank Breaker Breaker for texting me the night before reminding me I had the Q.  I didn’t let him know I had forgotten.  Maybe I would have seen it on my calendar the night before or maybe not.  I was planning on posting at the Storm anyway so I supposed it could have been an impromptu freestyle Q.   Whether planned or not, it is always a privilege to lead these fine PAX.
