GDiggathon Pt. 4: The Run

Little League travels far from home to grace Never Black Sno Cones…or whatever with his presence. What better way for an out of towner to introduce himself than with an out of town workout, modeled on YHC’s experience with Metro workouts.

Options A & B were provided (both involved well over 3 miles of running). A, the flatter, but longer option, was chosen. Essentially the goal was for everyone to run at least 4 miles and I believe nearly everyone succeeded in that, or at the very least, pushed it to the edge of their comfort zone, which is what this workout was all about. And while there was a lot of running (forward and backwards) involved, there were more exercises than I can list here performed as well.

I was incredibly impressed by the effort shown by all, especially those who might not consider themselves “runners”. If you are one of those PAX, I would encourage you to push yourself to get out to a running AO. You have more in you than you think. Even if you start with 2 or 3 miles slow, that’s more than 90% of the population. I can’t think of a better feeling than when you finish a run that you didn’t think you could do. That’s always my motivation to try new running challenges.

GD soapbox moment over.

Announcements: Convergence 6/29 Gashouse, Tuna team 2 needs runners, 7/4 Murph at Martha Rivers 07:00, Christmastown 5K signup open, post out of town if you’re traveling!

Prayer Requests: Montross’ mother

GDiggathon Pt. 3: The Hills

Workout 3 of the Diggathon comes to Gaston County’s Premier afternoon workout and thus YHC needs to step up his game. What better way to bring the heat on a cloudy day than with a workout that “made Gastone sick”, so obviously Gastone thought it was a great idea. Funnily enough, he didn’t show for said workout…

Anyway, the workout was simple enough: W/U with burpees, duh. Mosey to soccer fields for 11’s between the two big hills about 0.25 miles apart. Partners run opposite directions. Turkish getups at the top, Partner merkins in the middle, switch directions.

Not much time left, but we still squeezed in a LBC Indian Run and the GD shoulder burn.

Solid work put in by all. A lot of PAX got in 3 miles on top of everything else.

Same announcements as every Q this week, check another Backblast for crying out loud.

Prayer Requests: People battling addiction.

Until next time (which will be very soon),

GD

GDiggathon Pt. 2: The AMRAP

Day 2 of the Gold Diggathon came with a big question mark: how many Dallas boys would roll out of bed for a little league beatdown? 8 it turns out, plus a couple of us out of towners, rounding out to an even dozen. A very good showing for a weekday at Folsom.

The plan for today was simple: warm up and then hit the tennis courts for about 40 minutes of AMRAP merkins, abs, and legs. Simple and effective. Everyone pushed through, even those that had to leave a couple minutes early.

Now as an outsider looking in, I am unsure of certain dietary choices made in Dallas, but the profound impact they have on the…digestive systems of its fine citizens is remarkable. We’ll just leave it at that.

Announcements: Convergence 6/29 @Gashouse, Tronmoss 5K 7/21, Christmastown 5K sign up already open.

Prayer Requests: Montross’ mother undergoing brain surgery soon.

Until later today…

GDiggathon Pt. 1: The HRPCMBs

Day 1 of the Gold Diggathon is in the books and it was a real crowd pleaser! Had to set the tone for the week and what better way to do so than by introducing a horrific new burpee routine: Hand Release Prison Cell Merkin Burpees, or HRPCMBs for short. Essentially, you drop down like a normal burpee, do a HR merkin, bring up one leg, another HR merkin, bring up the other leg, another HR merkin and then both legs for the final jump up. That’s one. Do a Route 66 with those bad boys and you have the workout du jour. Plus a few other things to keep life interesting.

There was an undercurrent of mumblechatter, but eventually it was directed mostly toward SA and his “chapstick under the rainbow flag” incident. Poor guy.

Don’t forget the convergence this coming Saturday at Gashouse and to pray for each other, especially the Kotters. Also mentioned were the deaths of the boy at the trampoline park and the woman on 85.

Gold Diggathon continues tomorrow at both Folsom in the AM and Midoriyama in the PM!

See you all there,

GD

Sounds like intervals

While explaining this workout to Tyson, he said it sounds suspiciously like intervals. I said intervals might be preferable to this…

Typical burpee warmup, then straight into things.

5 minutes AMRAP for different body parts, followed by 5 minute mosey x4. Bookend burpees for the train.

Simple yet effective.

Announcements: Mt. Mitchell Hike May 19 5:30 at GSM, Belmont 5K SFN May 25 8:00, Memorial Day Murph at Martha’s 7:00, all other AO’s closed that day.

Prayer Requests: Gastone and family with his father’s passing, Watt’s Up’s daughter and her pregnancy, child in Stanley with brain tumor and his family.

Always a pleasure! Until next time,

GD

Fake News

3 grown men were most definitely not chasing around a small, shirtless man with disheveled hair and remarkably handsome features in Belmont today.

Any such reports by local citizens are fictitious and should be disregarded as fake news.

Thank you for your time.

It rained…

…but we ran anyway. Some brought umbrellas, some didn’t. Some were ridiculed, others weren’t.

Usual announcements. Mt. Mitchell was cancelled. If you didn’t know that already, I don’t know what to tell you.

Pray for the PAX and their families.

Until next time,

GD

No Shit!

YHC came in hot, nearly taking out Pizza Man’s car, just in time to call 25 burpees OYO, to which Broke’s response was “No shit!”. Pretty much sums up this entire workout.

We did some SSH, then moseyed across the street to the shady circle, stopping for some calf raises. Partner up for a little jog around the circle with 6 stops for various exercises x3. Round 1 is 150 upper body, 2 is 150 core, 3 is 150 lower body. Pick up the 6 and head back to the flag (stopping for calf raises of course) to get in our 25 bookend burpees.

Strong work put in by all on a warm day at Midoriyama. Everyone did 150 reps for each major body part, 50 burpees, and ran well over 2 miles.

Announcements: Mt. Mitchell hike May 5, 2nd F April 27.

Prayer Requests: Pizza Man’s neighbor’s family, people battling addiction, Boudin’s surgery.

A GD Good Time

Started with a bunch of SSH to warmup and then a few burpees because it is a GD workout after all…

Then we played ultimate frisbee for about 40 minutes, which to me is probably the ultimate sprint workout. Quite a few people (including YHC) got beat up pretty bad, some people kept playing, others didn’t… jk, always modify as necessary.

Announcements: Convergence 3/30, 2nd F that evening all in Dallas, SFN downtown 5K 4/13, Mt. Mitchell climb 5/5.

Prayer Requests: People battling addictions.

Always a pleasure. Until next time,

Gold Digger

5,000…er 15,000 reps

Inspired by Quiche’s 5000 rep challenge on Slack, YHC cooked up a workout that focused on his own 3 exercises: merkins, LBCs, and flutters.

Warmorama: Slawter starter, then 20 of each of the Big 3.

Next up, triple dime on the hill for 50 more of each. Nur/sprint up the hill one extra time for 10 more to round up to 80.

Mosey to tennis court for modified 4 corners. 10, 20, 30, 40 of the Big 3 to get to the daily minimum of 180. Only 30 minutes in and the daily challenge has been met.

Get down to the lower parking lot for Route 66 w/lunge walk and Bobby Hurley’s (YHC’s least favorite).

Now time for a GD crowd pleaser, the shoulder burn: Find a parking spot, 11’s w/ Mike Tyson’s on the curb, bear crawl to the end of the white line, crab cakes, then crab walk back. Run laps until Omaha. Shakeout with chinooks.

Mosey back to flag (provided by the ever-obliging MW) for various Mary/Mumblechatter.

Announcements: CSAUP and Rooster coming up.

Prayer requests: All PAX, Pizza Man’s M, Medicine Woman’s daughter, Gumby, Blart’s friend who passed away, Stroganoff’s friend’s M.

Always a pleasure to lead. I am continually inspired by the strong work put in by all.

Until next time,

GD
