1st ANNUAL FOLSOM WINTER NATIONALS

I will never forget the first Tuesday of 2021 , It was a little rainy, and high 30’s, Sparky had blocks in the tennis court at Folsom.  That was the start on my F3 journey, and what a year it has been.  I have done some things , meet some good people, and basically I am not the same man I was a year ago.  So I have been thinking about how to incorporate one of my other passions in life, Drag Racing, into a Q.   I figured out a rough game plan and with the help of some OG Folsom guys this is how it went.

Warmup:

We ain’t got time for that… count off…20 pax ok cool, count off again …split pax up into 7 teams of 3 (one team had 2).  Yall get your team together and let’s mosey!  Across the soccer field to 2 parking lots right below the triangle.

The Thang:

Welcome to the Folsom Raceway!  In the lower parking our racing crew was waiting.  Montross was the Race Master (he had the clip board), Alen Tate was the official starter, and Huck was the finish line judge and protest dept.  On to the Racing!  I acquired 2 identically prepared 2001 Ford Rangers (one had more gas in it though), they were set up on the far end of the parking lot at the starting line.  The teams were put on a ladder (bracket) and the racing started!  your team of 3 had 1 driver and 2 pushers.  Flashlight start! Chase is a race! Let go!  Push as fast as you can to the other end of the parking lot to the finish line and if your team wins you move on to the next round.  Losers went in the losers’ bracket.  So, every team was cycled in and while not racing we had busy work to do.  Super Dora…one man ran the length of the upper parking lot, one man held a static position (plank/squat/crunch), one man did the work.  Burpees, Merkins, LBC, Squats, all in various amounts this kept everyone busy and warm while waiting on their turn to race.  With time running low and the racing coming down to the semifinal rounds, we switched up and grabbed my favorite coupon the brake rotor! 20 curls, rows, triceps, and chest press then run a lap.  repeato at 19, then 18 etc…   The Final round of racing was Team Sargento, GearWrench, Bedpan  VS Team Sparky, Sarlacc, Volt.   The Nantan cracked the whip and with the power of Florda Man and GW ‘s super calf muscles they pushed across the line victorious!  I’m pretty sure they even thew the hazard lights on as they crossed the finish line! Congratulations!  I’ll get ya’ll a medal or a trophy or something.

We had a FNG!  Good job Mayor!   My man said he his lips were cold and someone shouted out ELSA…and well there you go! Welcome to F3!  Dude had perfect Merkin Form BTW (Mayor maybe he can help you).

Moleskin:

2021 was crazy!  I did things i never knew i could do…  like wake up at 4:30 almost everyday of the week, lost 25 + lbs,  ran a 5k, ran 5 miles, ran 10k, ran a 1/2 marathon!?  do 100 burpees in 10 mins, and 450 merkins before 6:15 on a Tuesday, worked out in the snow/sleet/rain/sub freezing , lead a workout, be in charge of a AO , pay $160 for running shoes,  and the list goes on!  F3 is one of those things you don’t know you need it till you do it. Thank you to everyone that pushed me, encouraged me and just showed up to a workout.  you all inspire me to keep going and accelerating! I can’t wait to see what happens in 2022!

GETTING LOST IN THE GLOOM

Things did not start off well this morning. Well last night when I announced that EC was at 6 and not 6:15 is really when it started..but i digress.  After a nice 6 mile mosey to deliver the Flag ( The Pole broke in 2 on the way) to Folsom at 7 we clocked in.

Warmup:

SSH 1 BURPEE

GRAVEL PICKERS 2 BURPEES

ABE VIGOTA 3 BURPEES

TOY SOLDIERS 4 BURPEES

MORICAN NIGHT CLUBS 5 BURPEES

Mosey:

On the way to Carr School we stopped at every intersection of a paved street (driveways do not count) or parking lots of major commercial or municipal building we did 5 merkins 20 MTN. climbers (CT both legs), and 10 squats.  We made quick detour to do Monkey Humpers in front of Toe Picks house to show our disapproval of him not posting today.   I kinda got messed up on the back roads of Dallas trying to get to the rear parking lot of the ball fields to access the playground…sorry guys Q fail.  I have lived in Dallas my whole life by not really in Dallas…more like Hardin/High Shoals.

Thang:

Once we finally made it to the playground we did work.  Linsdays–kinda of. 30 Dips and 10 Dirkins to start  but between the dips and dirkins we are going to do 10 pull Ups partner assisted unless you are Pizza Man he can do them himself! Then 25 dips/15 dirkins ..always with the 10 pull up in between.   Was some confusion here and after everybody did it a few times they finally got what i was trying to do .  This sucked toward the end and i even got a #1 signal from Mayor so there’s that.   Mosey back to main parking lot we did Tammy Waynets (stand by your man) Partner 1.. 10 Merkins P2 10 bigboys then switch  total is 100 merkins and 100 bigboys per man.

Mary & Carry:

To finish up with Mary and Carry…1 PAX  calls a ab/core exercise and then sprints to my two 5 gallon pales of c23 (racing fuel) and carry to the end of parking lot.  repeat till everybody has a turn.  5 burpees to wind it down. We said the pledge and Time!

Cold & Wet Sword

7 plus YHC decided to get up and punch Monday right in the mouth.  These HIM not scared of a little cold rain!  After a 30 mins of run/walk/ruck we meet up inside the carwash for some 3rd F.

We talked about the 2 different Kingdoms in the world..God and Satan.  In this secular world it is easy to put your head under the covers and just ignore the spiritual battle that is going on around us.

James 4:  1-4

Route 66 Brake Job

9 plus YHC showed up this morning for a No-Charge tune up at DownTown.  This is how it went…

The Thang:

Ok lets mosey down the block to the wall …wall sit marching IC x 20 and Australian MTN Climbers IC x 15.  Mosey around the corner and Westside sees a coworker in a city bucket truck and he asks if we can do some monkey humpers..so i hand him the reigns and we do some Monkey Humpers his coworker honked his horn in delight or disgust ..not sure which …  continue to mosey down main st..stop at the blinking red light and do some more Monkey Humpers , continue mosey to corner of Main and York for more Monkey Humpers for the North bound traffic…no honks this time oh well.   On the wall at alliance bank , wall sit marching and AMC again.

Frogger across York to parking lot to do route 66  .  Bear crawl 2 parking spaces and do a merkin, repeato till u get to 11.   Comeback the other way. Crab walk and big boys this time.

Back across to the main lot beside the pavilion and grab a Folsom Coupon(Brake rotor) for some Dora.   We had a brake job to do!  First we have to get the car on the lift..so low plank and lets set the lift (French Fries) IC x10. …Stay Down..lifts not set right …redo 10 more IC! First partner runs the length of the parking lot with brake rotor while other does 100 merkins, 100 curls, 150 squats, 200 lbc.  I had more but we ran out of time.  Haze reminded me we had to get the car off the lift so 10 more French Fries IC.   Rifle carry rotor back to the truck, mosey back to flag for pledge and Time!

Double Dirty 11’s

7 plus YHC choose the harder thing and turned off the snooze this morning for a dry but humid morning @ Folsom  …here is what happened

 

Standard Ball Joint Warm up:

The Thang:

We moseyed to the Flag stopping at each light to do 1 Burpee, 25 MTNclimbers, and 10 Crunchy Frogs.. add a burpee at each light so we end up with 7 burpees  on the last on.  Plank for 6 or go back and get’m .

Pledge

10 count from somebody that sucks at 10 counts and we are off again. Short mosey to the concrete bleachers  for some Dirty Double 11s.  Dips & Derkins at the bottom, box jump up the bleachers  LBCs and Leg lifts at the top.  Everybody hammered this out and we all bought the 6 in together.  10 count from somebody else that sucks at 10 counts and we are off again.  Around the horse track to the dirt road, and a not quite completed new fence that was perfect for pull ups.  More 11s, pull ups at the fence, run down the grass hill and do jump squats.  Everyone pushed though this pretty well and we all brought the 6 in.  Time running down we head back to the tennis courts for some core work.  Everyone on there back in a circle with heads to the inside of circle and feet to the outside.  Ozark was nice enough to bring us a 25lbs sandbag and we all admired it as we passed it around the circle all while doing flutter kick till time ran out 4 mins or so.

3rd F: Mathew 7 13-14  “Enter through the narrow gate, because the gate is wide and the way is spacious that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. But the gate is narrow and the way is difficult that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”    Everyday we make choices and most time the harder thing is the right thing to do…And I truly believe that F3 helped make these harder choices and be a better man then I was 6 month ago!

Warm UP:

The Thang:

Mosey to the Flag Pole, stopping at each light pole to do  :  1 HR Merkin, 25 MTN Climbers, and 10 Crunchy Frogs.  Increase the HR Merkins by one at each light..I think we ended up with 7 HR merkins by the time you got to the Flag.    Next was Pledge (I remembered this time) and a short mosey to the Horse Arena Bleachers.  Triple Nickle here….Dips at the bottom then Box Jump to the top and Big Boy Sit ups.  After that short mosey back up to the top parking lot for the Cooper.  Which is 10 burpees, 10 Squats, 10 Merkins and a lap, 9 Burpees, 9 Squats 9 Merkins and a lap.  That’s 55 of each exercise and a mile or so to boot and it sucked!  Dr. Seuss and Sparky were way out front on this ! Way to Push!  After a short 10 count we started a slow mosey back to the tennis courts.  Here we did a Pit Crew Challenge!   I had two 5 gallon pales of Vp C23 (Fuel we use in Ole Blue) in the middle of the courts, and 2 Mickey Thompson Radial Pros at the fence line.  Each Pax’s called a exercise we did AMARP while they sprinted to the fuel, farmer carry to the fence then pick up the tires and carry back to the center court then sprint back to the line.  With 13 guys we had lots of exercise including, Merkins, Lbcs, Crunchy Frogs, Flutters  , Freddy Mercs,  SSH,  and a few others I cant remember.  We finished with YHC as the last on to make the run….right on Time!

Q’n for Pappy

Big Pappy hit me up last week and asked if I could take the Q at the Bulldog this week.  I had only been there once at that point (unless you count convergence) and I knew they are not big on a lot of running so I brought a Folsom Block work out to the Bulldog.

No FNGs, so a simple disclaimer…i am not a professional, do what I say, or not, don’t die! (I did forget the Pledge right here…Q Fail)

Warmup :

Gravel pickers IC  x10,  Don Quixote ( as a stretch) x5 ish,  MNC IC x10, Imperial Walkers IC x10

The Thang:

This is the Basic work out that WireNut did at Folsom last week modified a little. Grab your coupon  7 reps of each exercise –single arm row (right then left), triceps extensions, curls, squats.  Repeat that circuit 7 times…I didn’t make that super clear at first and some Pax counted down from 7 down to 3 before we figured it out –Q Fail.   When we were done with the 7 we did  a slow mosey around the parking lot and did 25 Flutters IC to beak up the coupon work. Next same exercises but 6 reps 6 sets, slow mosey and 25 Hammers OYO.  5 reps 5 sets slow mosey and 50 LBC OYO.

At this point we had about 18 mins left … 10 merkins at on end of the parking lot, now grab  your coupon and rifle carry down to the other end of the lot, now 1 block press.  Ok raffle carry back for 9 merkins… Mumble Chatter erupted as the Pax started to get the idea that we were doing 11s ….Stupid Ass 11s as Clavin would call it!  We made it down to 6 and 5 and i called a Omaha with about 5 mins left we circled up for ring of fire.  1 Pax called a core exercise and bear crawled the circle.  LBCs, Flutters, Box cutters, Freddy mercury’s , Dying Cockroach’s, Crunchy Frogs got us finished up..   Time!

Trust Me I’m a Mechanic

20 HIM and 2 FNGs showed up on this beautiful crisp (almost spring) morning to put in work at Folsom!

This is my 29th post AND my 1st VQ and I was Jacked up!  I got there early to get things set up and found some PAX doing EC, so I jumped in and got a quick mile in to break in the new kicks!

Trucks (and a few cars) start rolling in and I can tell we gonna have a crowd.  5:30 hits and we get started.

Since we had FNGs i start out the the 5 principles of F3(Outside, Peer lead, open to all men, Free of charge, COT), and a disclaimer(I am a Idiot , do not do anything i say, modify, don’t die etc…) With all that out of the way, I am Ball Joint , Trust me I’m a mechanic!

I informed the PAX that since joining i have found that we have been doing a lot of the exercise at the shop and didn’t even know it…i pointed out what we call it at the shop as we did the warm up.

Warm up:

Something stuck on my boot (Toy Soldiers) IC x10

SSH IC x10

Mone Back or Mone In (MoricanNightClubs) IC x10

Imperial walkers or Hillbillys (obvously i do not know the difference) IC x10

Where did that lug nut go? (Gravel Pickers) IC x10

10 burpees OYO

Lets Mosey to the flag..stop at each light pole for 20 Mtn. Climbers , 20 American Hammers (count 1 side) and 1 burpee, next light same but add a extra burpee, till you get to the Flag.  Pledge and 22 for the vets!

In honor of March Madness we did a Bobby Hurley Indian run (split into 2 groups)  back down to the lower lot.

Ok enough warm up time do get to work!  We had some brake jobs to do!

1st we have to set the lift..low plank position reach out with right arm to the side..back to plank then reach out straight ahead..thats 1 .  We did this IC x10 each arm 2 sets.

Partner up for the Brake Job..1 partner does the work the other has to pick up 2 rotors and go back to the parts store to get the right ones(top of parking lot and back).  100 merkins, 200 squats, 300 lbc.  The trick here was to pick your rotors wisely from the pile .  I think Wirenut and Witchita found the f250 rotors(from Sgt. Hulka’s truck)and they were heavy!

With time getting short we moseyed back up to the tennis court parking lot.

We had to get the car off the lift from low plank..right arm /left arm ICx5.

Lastly in honor of Allen Tate…..on your 6 for the alphabet ..instead of abc’s we spelled out “fartsackeroftheyearallentate”.

3rd F: 1 Corinthians 6:19: “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself”.  Your body is a temple, be mindful of what you allow into it.  All 5 senses are constantly bombarded by the great deceiver.  Stay vigilant and keep your mind aimed towards God!

I started my F3 journey because of a Spiritual Exercise called Exodus 90 that some guys from church are doing together.  It has many things we give up and many things to start doing , and one of them is to practice regular intense exercise 3 days a week.  Freight, Sparky, AT, Hacksaw, RoundUp all at one time or another has invited me out for years, so I knew where I was going to work out..I finally had the push I needed to do it. I am so glad to be a part of this great group of men.  You’ll help me push to be better! It was a honor to lead today!
