Fast Paces at The Pub

Pledge

Thang:

Good crowd of HIMS at The Pub today for the ” Up-around-Snowballs and Back” run .

YHC couldn’t catch Diva, who commented that he ran a sub-seven. No wonder.

Stroganoff said it was one of his best.

Sargento ran a 7.37, which, he said, was the fastest he’d done in a while!

Broke said he wasn’t going to run all five, but he did..in his new Saucony’s..and Breaker thanked him for the push!

JJ, Roscoe, Leppard, Defib, Oompah are all an inspiration!

FRC

YHC pulled into the parking lot at The PUB and according to that JOCKO dude we’re already over an hour late getting started.

Rumors indicate that a certain nefarious subversive group is running (running get it?) rampant on the dark lightly traveled roads in South and Southeastern Gaston County.

Who are those knuckleheads with that shovel flag? Who meets in front of a closed grocery store before sunrise? Why are they all dressed in yellow shirts? Are they Antifa? Probably not. Could it be the F.R.C., which happens to on the terrorist group watch list? Maybe. Report any suspicious activity.

This group exists. Really. They are secretive. Someone you know could be in it. Your friend. Your neighbor. Your doctor. A suspected member tossed a large rock at old Oompa this morning in the parking lot, but his wimpy soccer arms just didn’t have enough strength to hit YHC.

Okay, it’s 0530 let’s get after it. Pledge.

To avoid encounters with the FRC we ran towards our imaginary friends at Diablo Sammich. Well, those whom could run faster than the Q allegedly saw over a half dozen imaginary friends. Were mushrooms or LSD involved? Unfortunately, YHC needs more than 45 minutes to run 5 miles, so call it a Q fail.

We ran. Some ran fast. Some ran slower. Some ran shorter. All had fun, because nobody gets up to run at 0530 just for the heck of it.

No major announcements. Prayers for our country, the police, Whoopie’s & Sister Act’s girls.

YHC took us out.

Getting Better

Interpret the title of this BB as you will. It could be that as AOs have opened back up that PAX are posting and getting in better physical and mental shape.

It could also mean that it only took one week to get the BB done instead of two weeks like the last one YHC did. We’re getting there. Maybe next time we’ll have it done before the weekend is over. Goals, folks. Goals.

We ran towards Martha’s. Actually, the rest of the PAX ran. YHC is coming off a brief stint on the IR so YHC walked.

Futurama

I predict this workout will go something like this…

Here at the Pub we live by a motto:

“Your pace, your distance.”

Some did my pace, some didn’t. Some did my distance, some didn’t. It was awesome regardless.

Drink > Food

AYE!

Rain, Rain, Rain!

Another day of rain, but we were lucky, the four runners that made it out had about a 40 min window of no rain, or some light rain, to get in 5 miles.

The Route -to Martha’s and back, not too original!

Back to The Pub

We went nine weeks without having the shovel flag planted onsite at The Pub. So two weeks to get the first backblast out is nothing, right? Anyway, YHC apologizes for the delay.

Although The Pub Virtual Challenge was fun, it was great to be back in the gloom with the PAX.

To celebrate, we ran towards Martha’s. We thought we ran past Roscoe in the parking lot, turns out it was Radar.

Until next time…

Unlike most Pub backblasts YHC has had the privilege to write, this one was delayed because I didn’t know what to say. Not about the workout itself, but about what had been on my mind all week. That was Mia Stokes. She was the young softball player from USC Union that was killed in the car accident along with her teammate Grace Revels. In the accident, her twin sister, Mallory was also injured. Although softball was one of the greatest loves of her life, she was so much more than a softball player. Anyone who attended her funeral last Friday would quickly realize that. For nearly two hours, we heard stories about the love she had for softball, her family, and most of all for Jesus. She had a boldness in her faith that allowed her to never be shy of her love for God. She and her sister Mallory had a saying that “Two is better than one.” That is from Ecclesiastes 4 9-12 which reads, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” To me, that is the heart of F3. A brotherhood that leaves no man behind and no man where you found him. No one lived fitness, fellowship, and faith any stronger than Mia Stokes. I pray that she will leave a legacy in which seeds that were planted by her or by those who hear her story will find the Savior that she loved so much. And I pray that in and out of F3, we will continue to be men that will lift each other up, encourage each other, and have a boldness to share our faith with a community that is in desperate need. Two is truly better than one.

Core Principle #3

As most of us know, F3 has 5 Core Principles. On that list, number three is “Are held outdoors, rain or shine, heat or cold.” That was definitely put into practice in SOGA this AM as there was more rain than shine.

YHC arrived at The Pub a little earlier than normal. And by early that was still only about 0525. While there are usually several PAX already there by the time YHC arrives, there was no sign of life in The Pub parking lot. The threat of rain was forecast for several days, so YHC figured that may have kept some in the fartsack this AM. As YHC kept dry in the comfort of the car, several questions arose: What if no one shows? Should I just go home? (of course not) How far should I run? (Mortimer 100 is right around the corner). Would a quick sprint be enough… Wait, what was that flash? I looked up and saw Gump darting around the outer edge of the parking lot running in the rain. Looks like this was not going to be a solo journey. About that time Stinky Bird came pulling up followed shortly there after by Diva.

Keep it simple. To Martha’s and back…

I hate running in wet shoes so the entire time YHC was dodging puddles and thinking of the nirvana Whoopee would have experienced had he been running in all of these puddles.

All 4 PAX ran at least 5 miles, and then we huddled in front of Publix.
