A Monk, A Youth Pastor and A Peanut’s Character walk into this Church and….

Prepped and ready for the Annual Foundation Run 5K, plus fresh with an FNG I brought along (Marcus/Trivago) I was ready for the Pax crowd.  Total of 9 showed for some Bedpan Painlab beatdown and Linus mosey 5k prep.  To start, and of course while forgetting the pledge:

Disclaimer:

Warm Up:

SSH – 20 IC

Squats – 20 IC

Merkins – 10 IC

LBC’s -20 IC

Painlab (Tube, Marco, Trivago, Hunk-a-Junk) to your Bedpan Beating.  Bootcamp with me.

First Presbyterian Church, to the steps at the Pad.

Re-hash of this weeks events from Timeframe and Gastone.

Partner 11’s:

Bottom, 1 Booyah merkin moving up, top of steps 10 partner derkins moving down

Circle Up:  Hold plank position while each PAX high knee’s out for a distance and back.  Starting to rain at this point.

Circle Up:  Round two, hold crab walk position while each Pax high knees for a distance and back.

50’s:  50 of each

Squats / Lunge / Monkey Humper / Calf Raise

Power Packet:

Formed small stations with the following:

30 Merkins / 30 CDD’s / 30 Squats / 30 LBC’s / 30 Heels to Sky / 30 Second Plank

After each excercise mosey out pre-determined distance and back, go to next station.  Still raining but buckets are holding out at this point.  Mumblechatter strong from Squirt provided great 10 count relief.

Well, finish the power packet round and as I bend down to pick up added weinke’s I either blacked out or had a photo taken of me.  Neither it seems, but it was full sky lightning.  Not strikes mind you, just full sky illumination.  Monk had if figured out by exact distance how far away it was so we sort of moseyed back towards the Schiele in increments figuring we had time to spare.

Top of church, repeated a hold pattern while PAX moseyed and then NUR.

Round 1 – Al Gore

Round 2 – I forget

Turns out there is this joke I overheard from Squirt and Monk grabbed the punchline.  What happens when a Monk, a Youth Pastor, and a Peanut’s character walked into a church?  The Monk got kicked out!!!

Lightning now right on us and time anyway.  Monk trying to review his storm distance calculations and Squirt picking us up and carrying us back, while continuing the mumblechatter.  Mosey fast pace to the Schiele only to find Painlab has been stolen!  Monk, determined to rescue them searches deep in the woods (well, not that deep) and finds them huddled under the Colonial awnings like Will Smith ‘I am Legend’ zombies.  Ironic at this point that most of us are still dry and only got bathtub soaked after we departed.  Quick pledge to a flag we could only imagine still existed, name-o-rama, announcements and prayers quicker than a JR-Maglev (uh, fast train I think).

Departing the gloom we were ransacked with a deluge of water, felt great actually.

I need Q’s for April.

Until next time, Aye…..

Linus

The Storm after the storm?

In last weeks addition of The Storm we more than moseyed. This week the decision was made to take the Storm to the next level and not leave the parking lot.  In fact, we almost did not even leave the warm up circle.

SSH to warm up – no counting here, just SSH.  Whilst we all SSH I explained the exercises written in a circle along with a few coupons.  As usually Buckeye’s classics hits are playing in the background, for some reason the music from my speaker is louder here than when I Qued Folsom a couple weeks ago.  Everyone loved the music except for SisterAct.

The Circle of Pain Lab?  These exercises were written in a circle  in the parking lot prior to some EC.  Turns out, the exact number of PAX showed to match the exact number of exercises planned for the morning.   Serendipity?

  • Squat press with 30lb dumb bells
  • 45lb plate carrier
  • Mike Tyson’s
  • Swimmers
  • Shoulder flys with 10lb dumb bells
  • step back lunge
  • bear crawl
  • Freddy Mercury
  • Plank
  • Curls with 20lb dumb bells
  • reverse bear crawl – SisterAct mentioned that there is an actual name for these but I dont have time for that – so we will call them BEEP BEEP Bear Crawl
  • Run – see not pain lab – we actually had a running exercise
  • SSH

We made it through just over 2 rounds of this when Sargento had to leave us making our perfect numbers no so perfect any more.  Time for a change.  Lets mosey.   We completed a short mosey to the wall on the side of the school where one round of the stupid shuffle was completed because Termite had never experienced it before.  Mosey around the back of the school back to the flag.

Tunes were selected for stretching, as always, we stretch with Disney Princesses.  5 minutes of stretching later and its time.

There was an usually light crowd at Folsom on this comfortable spring morning.  With no one else in sight, we clock in with 5.

Mosey to the park entrance.

Mosey back to where the road forks and stop at the hill. I’ve heard this called different names, but I’m going with Stackers after witnessing this during a Cape Fear WO last summer. Yes, I still post when on vacation. Anyway……..

Thang

7 exercises, 7 reps each, some of which are in cadence. Mosey down the hill, nur back up and perform exercise 1. Mosey down, nur up the perform exercise 1 and add exercise 2. Continue adding the next exercise until you’ve completed all 7 exercises. Exercises were; burpees, Merkins, Mt. Climbers IC, Squats, LBCs IC, lunges each leg, big boy sit-ups. Once all were finished, mosey back to the upper lot at the entrance. Line up for Route 66 with Bobby Hurley’s. Mosey back to start.

COT and YHC took us out in prayer

Something smells good

Linus needed some Q’s for the Gashouse so Whoopee and I decided to co-Q.  I had some exercises in mind for the workout so I did the pre-work last night and had my car prepped and ready.  I laid out the pain stations and then got to the AO a little early so I mosey’d off for a little EC.  On the way back in I checked out the area where I knew Whoopee was going to take the PAX and there were all his instruments of pain laid out nicely.  I hurried back to the AO to find a bunch of PAX ready to get to work.

0700:  Introduction of Q’s, disclaimer, brief warmup with Roscoe and Whoopee that included squats, heels to heaven, merkins, seal jacks.  Split up for Painlab and Bootcamp.  The Painlab had 9 and bootcamp had 5 (eventually 6).  While the bootcamp moseyed to the flag for the Pledge, Short Sale sent me a text saying he “had issues with the dog” and was wondering where we would be.  I texted back we would be at the church.

After the pledge we moseyed to the Church where we found exercise station one but before we started on our AMRAP I gave a little F3 testimony.

  1.  Since F3, I have found out many things that have made my life better such as Podcasts, Reading Books, (lots of mumblechatter about reading and books.  T-Square claimed he is still using picture books, but maybe that is an improvement from watching Little Einstein videos?)
  2. No matter whether together or alone, the F3 brothers and credo still holds fast.  When you want to quit, give in to your jesters, or just slack off, there is built in accountability within F3. Think about your brothers encouraging you to do better.
  3. If you want to run faster, run with a faster man.  This has been happening all over F3 Gastonia as of late as many men are making serious progress in all F’s.  Everyday you don’t accelerate you are decelerating.  We aren’t getting younger.

When we couldn’t wait any longer for Short Sale, YHC announced the workout.  Complete the exercise and run a lap around the circle in front of the church and proceed to the next pain station.

Exercises:  100 Squats, 100 SSH, 100 LBC’s, 100 Lunges, 100 Flying Squirrels

I set the timer and we were off.  After the first lap we returned for the SSH.  I was fortunate enough that the breeze was blowing from the East which is where DEFIB was getting after the SSH and I smelled his laundered clothing.  If you haven’t posted with Defib, his wife buys Tyler laundry detergent and when you are fortunate to get a waft of his scent it takes you to a beautiful forest with a quiet stream rolling by as birds chirp softly and the biting insects no longer seek to eat you and the cool breezes of the forest make it through all the trees and touch your skin oh so gently as you drift off into a blissful sleep.  Whatever problems you have in life disappear as you dream of walks on the beach with your M who is holding your hand as the waves crash gently around you.  At this moment you forget that you have ever experienced that “not so fresh feeling”.  You are wearing all white clothing like a summer family vacation picture…Oh wait, I still have 100 SSH to do.  Back to the workout.

Once we got the the lunges, Short Sale pulled in just in time for about 50 of the 100.  He still gets credit for posting since we had more than 30 minutes left in the workout.  His dog Pookie must have really been having bathroom issues.

We decided to break up the Flying Squirrels into 25 reps and then a lap.  This was done 2 times before the timer went off indicating it was time for Whoopee’s portion of the Q.

We ran off to the PAD.  Whoopee had laid out various equipment (very Painlab’ish).  The five stations were as follows:

Station One:  “DEFIB SPECIAL”   two barbells and the excercises were 5 Burpees, 5 Stepups, 5 squat thrusters, 5 Pushup/rows, 5 squat jumps.  (This station was the timer.  When the PAX was finished with this station everyone switched.

Station Two: (two pax)  Pick up a 9 foot log and carry it down the hill and back and then do shoulder presses.

Station Three:  You get your very own log this time.  Use to do push presses, mountain climbers off it, or whatever you want to do.

Station Four:  Carry the weighted GoRuck Sandback up and down the stairs.

Station Five:  Derkins with feet on the wall.

We completed a few rounds of this until Whoopee ended it.  Next we broke up into two teams of three.  Team one carried sandbag and did the stairs.  Team two stayed with Whoopee and repeated the DEFIB SPECIAL with using the dumbells, a rucksack, and a piece of granite.  Two rounds or so before we moseyed back to the AO with all the coupons (minus the logs).

Huckleberry led the Painlab.  Here is what happened there…

First exercise was a wave of merkins, followed by a wave of squats and followed by a wave of LBCs all x 10.
Slow meander to the parking lot.  Route 66 with bear crawls and mountain climbers, returned back with squats and toy soldiers.
Partner up for Dora 123456.  Exercises were:
100 CDDs
200 WW1
300 Squats
400 Hillbilly
500 Calf raises
600 Moroccan nightclubs
Nice work by all, decent amount of mumble chatter.
Next I asked Rudolph to do his boxing routine.  This was especially fun after the Moroccan nightclubs.

Huckleberry had the Painlab PAX circled up for MARY and we joined them.  5 burpees, 5 more burpees, Huckleberry then did 50 LBC’s while the rest of us just waited for the church bells to signal the end of the workout.  Huckleberry apparently is hard of hearing as they started ringing on about rep 30.

Announcements:  Community Foundation Run next Saturday, Cinco de Mitchell, May 5th.  Gastone is Q.  Expect to ruck up Mt. Mitchell and back down on this day.

Prayer Requests:  Voodoo’s Father in Law who has been sick but is improving.  Prayers for each other.

Always good to be at the original AO where it all started over four years ago.  I challenge each PAX, if you have never had a successful EH, keep trying.  Men need the fellowship.  We don’t have to walk alone.

Sparty’s War Eagle rode a Cavalier while chasing a Red Raider

Anything can happen during March Madness, thus an ode to this years final four teams in the title.   As related to the workout, no direct correlation to the workout.  If YHC had planned better, perhaps his Q would have been more creative and aligned to the strengths of the teams.   None the less, 5:30 rolled around early on this chilly 1st of April.  PAX was 8 strong to start the week in the gloom.  It was time to get to work.

Mosey towards the Dollar store; stopped for another train horn.  Could of been the same one, who knows.  10 Burpees

Jail break to the parking lot

Line up; lunge walk across the parking lot; perform 10 V-Ups (F3 world may call them something different).   In one motion raise both legs while doing a sit up, run back to the start; rinse and repeat x 3

At the stair case, calf raise for a couple of sets

Mosey across the old HT lot.

Stopped and the last light and bear crawled to the curb.

Think I’m missing some other exercises, however,  you get the point.   Dry Rub made his first post at Neverland and was pushing the rock hard.   Come to find out, he is a neighbor of Watt’s Up.   These two are going to be complete beasts.  Their neighborhood will never be the same.

PrisonBreak BB is Live

After several hours of the Weasel Shaker busting my chops about this mornings backblast, I figured I’d go ahead and help calm his nerves.

It was a cool morning in the gloom of Ingles parking lot. As usual I had passed Volt already on the road. There were a couple other PAX ready to roll, one being Gumby who is on a mission to break YHC’s posting record,  so when 0530 hit, we went on our ways. We had some P200 guys come out to ruck and Allen Tate did some running. Barrel Racer was out on his own since I couldn’t keep up. Allen Tate returned to start early with some soreness and by 0615 all had safely returned.

Thanks for the opportunity to lead this fine AO. You men are what keeps me coming out.

A little more Bootcamp this time

It’s been awhile since I’ve used a bit more traditional bootcamp beatdown tactics in my workout weinke.  Locked and loaded Friday afternoon, sleeved in a Whoopee ‘resistant’ liner, it contained several items of which I abhorred.  Why then would I design such the beast?  Who knows, not even I know, but I do know suffering prevailed, mainly just for me but found some others huffing a bit.  We started like this…

Spring has arrived but where is the PAX?

Understanding many were preparing for the P90x event this weekend,  YHC was expecting a smaller crowd.  Island and I arrived about 5:20 am and no one was in sight.  A bit odd, though a number are known to come streaking in at the last minute.    After a few minutes, it looked like it may be just be the two of us.   Perhaps it was the weather (freezing on the 1st day of Spring) or maybe that the Martha’s House crew knew that Gastone’s hill was going to be the star attraction.   Or maybe a statement against YHC’s Q abilities.  Being very insecure, YHC started to cry.  But suddenly out of darkness, there were lights.   And then more lights.   Looks like we’ll have a party after all.     6 PAX strong, lets get to work.

Pledge

Disclosure : Be careful as we run down Riverwood, vehicles are going faster and faster.  Beware and be safe.

Warm up:

SSH x 30 IC

MNC’s x 30 IC

LBC’s x 20 IC

Mosey down Riverwood Parkway, stopping at every light or so for 20 squats OYO (total of 100)

After 5 sets of squats, switched over to 10 burpees per light (total of 20)

At Gastone’s hill, Bernie Sander’s to the top circle

Next round up Gastone’s hill, sprint to each light, complete 10 merkins, rinse and repeat until the top circle

Plank it up

Reverse Crunches x 40 OYO

Mosey down the hill

Next round up the hill, bear crawl to each mail box, pause for a 10 count, rinse and repeat.  Complete to the 5th mail box

Meander to the side parking lot

On the decline (Hill), perform 30 big boy sit ups (feet up on the high side).  This was  crowd pleaser for sure.   Some had good form, others modified and had some strange body gyrations.

Let’s mosey, back down the hill and head towards the start.   YHC hears some mumble chatter about being happy not to be going back up Gastonia’s hill.   YHC will give your money’s worth so mid stride omaha’d and circled back to Gastone’s hill.   Normal mosey up to the top circle and mosey back down.

After the false start, now heading back to the start.  We stopped at a few lights to lunge walk to the next light.  Time was getting very short.  Jail break to the finish.  Time…..

Way to push it men.  I appreciate the opportunity to Q.  This group today put in the work.  Watt’s Up has turned into some Marvel super hero, Timeframe has lifted his game and is steps ahead of where he was, Spiderman is back to top form, Dirt is just solid and a machine.   Island is just continues to be the shut down corner.   You guys are inspiring me to lift my game.   Thanks for the push.

Folsom Favorite…..Downtown

YHC has been recovering from yet another leg injury. This time being the ankle, but same dang leg. Anyway, I had signed up to Q and was going to make it happen someway, somehow. A thought came to me about a Q that has been used quite a few times at Folsom and at the same time a Q that was low impact. I didn’t want to Q it if I couldn’t do it. So, for the Folsom guys, you’ll know what this Q consists of.

YHC started at 20 each exercise for round 1 on my call then allowed the rest of the PAX to participate all the way down to 1 rep per exercise. After each set of 5 rounds we took a short recovery mosey around the parking lot. After we hit 1, we load up the blocks and take a bit longer mosey up Main Street. We stop briefly at a ref light where Slaw tried to hijack the Q and hit our six for some flutters and LBCs until Gastone has picked up the six. Mosey to start for 4 minutes of Mary. Random PAX chose different exercises. Time.
